Is there any way to enable OK Google active listening with Nova Launcher beta? What app would I need to make this happen?

to the best of my knowledge, the active listening component of the "Google Experience Launcher" is not available on any custom third party launchers as of yet. google has not open-sourced their launcher and, for the time being, are keeping it an n5 exclusive.

I personally just set the double tap gesture to voice search. Just as good maybe better.

Thanks, guys. But I found an app that so far does toggle active listening. It's called Open Mic+. It's in the Play Store and it comes in a free and paid version. The paid version honestly doesn't add much more than the free one does. Anyway, the app isn't 100% perfect, but it's good so far.

I assume with open mic+ nature of app battery life would be hit significantly?
I am surprised the moto x assist and always listening app have yet to be ported.

The problem I found with open mic+ is on my stock nexus 5 it was not starting on boot and at random times disappears from the navbar or just stops responding to the keyword even though it is running and shows it's listening. The concept is nice but will have to wait on a more stable implementation. Props to the dev though as he's just in high school and it's well on the way to being a must have app.

Lol how is it better to have to double tap instead of having to do nothing

Really? This isn't the Moto X. There is no point at which you have to do nothing. You still have to unlock the phone and be at the home screen. Having already unlocked the phone what is a double tap? Besides, I don't particularly like saying okay Google.

Op should add a question mark in the topic.

Done.

This is what I want. We have the extra core, LET IT LISTEN TO US!

Running CM11 beta 7. 4.4 on S3. Tmo.
Google Experience Launcher
Nova Launcher Beta 3
On the S3 the left capacitve "menu" button offers a long press option into Google Now.
Then Google Now is Active: Say "Ok Google"
Or use the standard GEL, and "Ok Google" is active in any home screen.

Try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.luck.okaygooglenow I'm in the same boat on my AT&T S3. I'll give it a shot and report back.

I added a shortcut to voice search. Just saying OK google is a little handy but it rarely gets what I'm asking correct...

personally I'd rather have OK google than 3 words is too complex

It's double tap instead of saying ok google. Since you have to have it opened to the homescreen anyway a double tap would be faster. It would be different of course if we had always listening when the screen is off.

Now that Google Now has been released for all Nexus and Play Ed. It would be great to have it working well with Nova Launcher.

Google have blocked access to it in 4.4 so the built-in app is no longer available.
Coming from CM10.2 I was hoping to at least be able to use this with my N5, but alas it's not so .

Wait... They removed the feature that they just added to the last version? Or they removed the old method of enabling it?

I believe they blocked the APIs used by the permissions editor which is why it crashes - but I'm struggling to find the reference I read that had this info.......
afaik they removed it completely. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47098228&postcount=2
One of the best features ever introduced to android and they remove it. Might even downgrade my N7 because of this.

I downgraded my N4 back to 4.3. Disabling app ops is terrible. Even apple has this feature: iOS alerts you if any app wants to access your contacts, or your photos, or your camera, and you have a choice to allow or not. Android 4.3 does not alert you, but at least you have the option to dig into the App Ops and revoke access to certain things. 4.4 is the first time an android upgrade dissapointed me (they destroyed the alarm app, the keyboard, the wifi indicator's activity/internet access, and App Ops).
App ops was never an official feature, so they technically didn't remove anything.

So? It's still a feature they included, with easy access, and then took away even though it was nothing but effective for the users...

I'm with you on the users defending Google like the can do no wrong, but definitely disagree about the YouTube g+ integration... They needed to clean YouTube up, and now I can see friend's comments on videos more easily and only view the comments and responses of certain people... That was a good idea..
I think Google is completely wrong by blocking this app ops function, if that's what happened here...

While in Google Search click settings and make sure hotword detection is enabled.
If it is and it's still not working... are you on the stock launcher or 3rd party (ie- nova launcher)?
The ok google function only works for the stock GEL.
My N5 does not show the "Say OK Google" text (it did the first few days), but If I actually say the words it does respond.
It looks like it was there just a few days so you knew... Have you just tried to speak to it?

Oh! Now I get you. Well I never rly noticed about that. But yeah it's not showing for me either. I guess it was just a kind of Tutorial. After a couple of times it's gone.
The 'Say OK Google' text disappears after a few uses (they assume you know that you can do it now).
But if you have the service enabled and it isn't detecting the hotwords, then sounds like you have a defective phone.

If the microphone is not fully white, and it's hollow in the inside, then most likely you just opened an app that uses a fair amount of resources.
Weirdly enough for me, once I closed a game like Asphalt, it'll reenable Ok Google, not sure if this is the case for you, but I doubt it has anything to do with hardware, most likely software.

Hey guys!
I was thinking about if there is an Application for Android, that detects a specific color on the screen and taps it. Kind of like a simple Aimbot. If there isn't one, is anybody here able to build one? I think it would be an interesting App-Idea that many people might use.

[APP][Android 8+] TESTERS Digilux - Control your phone's brightness w/finger gestures

I wrote an App that lets you control your phone's brightness provided it's running Android 8.0+ and has a compatible fingerprint sensor.
I wrote it because I change my phone's brightness as often as I change it's volume, if not more, and I was upset I didn't have dedicated hardware for it. When Oreo launched and it added fingerprint gesture detection, I figured I'd have a go at it.
The app has been available on Google Play for a month now to Pixel and supported Nexus devices. All things being equal, it should work on the Essential Phone with Oreo installed, but I don't have access to one.
I was wondering if anyone here could help me test it?
