[Q] SHIP HBOOT or ENG HBOOT

i have made my phone s-off(ship s-off) with XTC clip.do i need to make it to ENG S-OFF?And which is more better.
u don't have to make eng s-off but it's recommended to use it cause it will allow u to use fastboot to flash new radio & recovery
thx, which is more stable? i flashed clockworkmod recovery. is there some advantages of eng s-off
i already wrote u the advantages 1 post above... read please
and well... read the names ok? clockwordmod RECOVERY, engineering s-off BOOTLOADER
that are 2 completly different things and u can have them both at the same time
thank u very much!i am sorry about that i am not very claer about these.this
is my first time use htc.i use lg optimus one before
well every android has a bootloader, recovery, system, radio... so it isn't htc specific but the next time u'll know it
ok,and another question.if i want to flash RUU after i make the phone to eng s-off that i must make a goldcard?
if the ruu is from any other provider than u got (eg. o2 with htc ruu) u need a goldcard, but flashing a ruu will kill your eng s-off cause it flashes a new bootloader also
so if u have eng s-off, stay with custom roms or remove boot.img from the ruu before flashing it
ok,i know.so the offical ruu do not need goldcard?
it does, like i said, a ruu needs a goldcard if u change from one provider to another
if u want to debrand liek isaid before o2 -> htc u will need a goldcard
if u want to reflash your o2 rom or update your o2 rom wit hanother o2 rom, then u don't need a goldcard
thank u so much! i clear

Update HBoot ?

Hi everyone,
I'm currently under Cyanogen stable release, with hboot 0.98.0000. My phone was S-OFF using AlpharevX beta tool 3 or 4 month ago I guess. The problem is that my Desire S reboots regularly for no reason. I red somewhere that hboot 0.98.0002 may correct that issue. Is that true ? Or should I wipe all my datas and do a "proper" new install of CyanogenMod ? I wiped my phone one time for the first install of superkid beta, but never again, I've just been pilling up every new version.
And finally, if 0.98.0002 fix that issue, how is it possible to install it ? Do I have to get back to sense and S-ON my phone ? How ?
Thank you,
KennyG9

I'm slightly confused as if you S-OFF'd with AlpharevX then you should really have the 6.xx.xxxx HBOOT What else have you done since then?
Rather than play around with your HBOOT's I'd try a clean install first - I'd suggest formatting of data/system/cache/boot through a wipe script and then perform a complete re-install of the latest ROM)
Although I'd say that the best HBOOT for you to be on would be ENG HBOOT 0.98.2000.

Sorry, I don't understand 100% what you mean there, do you mean that you have HBOOT = 6.xx.xxxx or not?
You can save APK's with various file manager tools but without doubt the most used and easiest way to enable the backup and re-install of all of your APK's would be pay for titanium backup tool....this tools enable batch backup and restores.
Any custom recovery whether CWM (clockworkmod) or 4EXT (which I recommend) will enable you to format the partitions as described. You will find links to both of these in the RECOVERY section of the INDEX thread.
You will also find links to HBOOT in the INDEX thread.

[Q] Starting out, Root and S-OFF?

Hey all,
I have just got my hands on a HTC Sensation and plan to root it but many of the guides I have seen require S-OFF.
When I look into gaining S-OFF, the guides often tell me I need to be rooted.
Can anybody point me in the right direction?
My HBOOT is 1.27.000
Many thanks

Use this and only unlock bootloader ,install 4ext recovery and root your phone ....[ All included here[LINK]
No need to S-OFF you can still flash custom rom with S-ON..
I said it because S-OFF with Hboot 1.27 is difficult(wire trick) and you are new to this ...
Ta!

[Q] Root and custom Rom

Hello,
I want to root my desire (for titanium backup) and AFTERWARDS want to install custom rom like CM10.1
I have
LOCKED
Saga PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT 2.00.0002
Radio 3822.10.08.04_M
and a sonydisplay
I am really confused by downgrading, unlock bootloader by HTDEV ect.
My problem is, there is NO thread, where i can ROOT my actual devise, they are all for S-OFF or unlocked or another HBOOT version.
Can anyone PLEASE help for my next step, if possible, just to root ? afterwards i want to make a backup with titanium. does ROOT wipe my data? especially gamedata? contacts and SMS and kalender ect have all been backuped by myphoneexplorer.
THX!

Question, what does
Make sure you DO NOT mount your SD card
mean? Is ist correct, to connect the phone just as htcSync or Just Load or USB? and NOT Massstorage?
AND i do NOT have to do ANYTHING like downgrade HBOOT or another Custom Recovery or something?
Thx

When u connect the phone to the pc, u will have a choice, by default it will just charge the phone, you would have to select massstorage in order to transfer files from your sdcard to the pc and vice versa. So when it says do not mount your sd card it simply imply, connect your phone to the charger, that's all, period/dont have to connect usb storage.
You can just pick any downgrade guide as long as your hboot and build no. fits the description.
To backup without root u can try My Backup by Rerware, LLC. I think this works without root.
There was a discussion somewhere about this as well, someone was looking to backup without root.
Cheers.
Edit : Here's a link to a thread

why is ist necessary to DOWNGRADE from 2.00.0002? is it not more simple to UPGRADE to 2.00.2002?
I can´t use HTcDEV to unlook bootloader because then phone will be wiped!
So I go for ultimate Backup to backup all gamedata and rest without root.
After backup is done I go for
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525100
this version, is that correc`t?

To flash a rom, u need to bypass some phone built-in security.
2 ways to bypass, unlock or s-off.
s-off has all and more capability than unlock.
But if u only want to flash rom unlock would be enough.
Edit : htc unlock works on all hboot and builts.

I wanted to go for revolutionary.io to s-off, but from what i have read that wonßt work with my settings.
So i have to unlock bootloader with htcdev and THEN s-off with revolutionary (to get root AND capaable of flashing roms)
and then flash my prefered rom.
Or shall i just try s-off with revolutionary?
If u updated your stock to ics it means u have the latest hboot.
That will not s-off, u would need to unlock then s-off.

Because of my settings
LOCKED
Saga PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT 2.00.0002
Radio 3822.10.08.04_M
and a sonydisplay
I will go for
[Guide] How to root, install EXT4 recovery and custom ROM on HBOOT 2.00.0002 - xda-developers
and go for this ROM
[ROM][08 AUG 13][4.2.2][UNOFFICIAL] CyanogenMod 10.1 - xda-developers
That means in the end I got
unlocked Bootloader (from HTcDev)
rooted phone
custom Rom
Is that correct?
Can I copy the new ROMfiles for flashing to my actual SD-Card (from my actual system with my actual app-files) or shall i copy the rom to a new sdcard? If copy to new sdcard, can i switch sdcards after flashing and get all my apps and savings back? Or do i have to restore them from ultimatebackuptool?
Yes, unlock with custom rom.
In the guide he used reaper, u can use cm instead.
*remember to flash the boot.img in fastboot from the rom.zip file each time u flash a new rom.
After flashing, u can change sd card, wiping the sd card will not wipe the phone's system.
If the data apps are stored in the sd card, u will loss the data when changing sd card.
The problem with backup is that it will not always work, there are bound to be one or 2 apps which data cannot be restored.
I never tried ultimatebackup before. And trust me, u will back up now, but after a while the urge to flash a new rom will strong, when that happens all u back up will be contacts, sms, misscalls, wifi and those essential stuff.
Edit: u can flash the ROM with the new or existing card, doesn't matter. Backup everything on the PC before u begin.

What does s-off provide?

What does s-off offer than root access?
Is it worth getting s-off or not?
Shall I just get root?
So I don't have to downgrade my hboot.
Sent from HTC desire S Android 4.0.4
when you are s-off you dont have to flash boot.img via fastboot when changing roms
Oh right is that it, I might as well just root instead downgrading hboot.

It seems to be a common misconception that S-OFF means root, you can be S-OFF without root; what it really means is that you have turned off write protection to the phone's NAND memory, which is where important parts of the OS and other firmware are stored.

Once you're S-OFF it is a huge convenience, if you think you might be changing firmware or flashing ROMs often it can be well worth it. If you're less "tech savvy" you may feel more comfortable with just an unlocked bootloader.

If all you want is root, it might be easier for you, if you need to unlock your bootloader remember that you will still have your data wiped.
