Moto G KitKat No service with SIM - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
A colleague has updated the Moto G bought from an eBay PowerSeller that sold it with o2 branding but no simlock. Until the new microSIM arrived it was updated via the WiFi connection to KitKat 4.4.2 and no it does not show any cell service with any SIM card we enter.
No service with either o2 SIM or any other SIM we tried either inserted while the phone was running (as suggested by Motorola support) or while the phone is turned off. When the phone is booted the SIM icon in the notification bar is crossed and no cell phone reception.
Manual rebooting and also factory reset from the OS and the Fastboot menu have not solved the issue so far.
When entering the Fastboot menu the report looks like this:
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)
41.05 (sha-f4ab363, 2013-12-ß6 12:32:04)
CPU: MSM8226 CS
eMMC: 8GB Sandisk RV=06 PV=07 TY=17
DRAM: 1024 MB Samsung S4 SDRAM DIE=4Gb
Battery OK
Device is LOCKED. Status Code: 0
Connect USB Data Cable
Does the "Device is LOCKED" status just indicate that the bootloader has not been unlocked or something else ?
The only other similar information we found so far is problems with the dual SIM version of the Moto G in India that also relate to the KitKat update.
If anyone has any other information or steps to help please feel free to do so ...

Try a phone testing app to access the phone radio testing maybe they are just.. Off

[q] help: Sim card not detected on gionee p2

I own a GIONEE P2 mobile phone with MTK6572 processor and android 4.2.2 and 512MB RAM. I successfully rooted the phone and it was working fine until my internet stopped one morning and upon restarting the phone, it wrote SIM1: SIM card not detected, SIM2: sim card not detected. I have tried all I could yet no avail as I can't use SIM card in the phone. I used MTK droid tool but nothing could be done, also entering engineering mode with ##4636##, the radio remained permanently turned off and couldn't turn on. I used IMEI tools to rewrite and replace the NVRAM files yet nothing happened. it has been very frustrating trying to find a solution but none found. Please anyone with any idea on how to resolve this issue should please help. WIFI and bluetooth still work fine.
Thanks in advance

Moto G 16G || 4.4.2 || Intermittent SIM issues

Hi Experts,
Model: Moto G 16G
Android version: 4.4.2
Kernel: 3.4.0-g9f5dcdc
Location: India
Service provider: Vodafone and Aircel
Problem Description: SIMs getting disabled on both the slots intermittently.
To resolve the issue: Either restart the phone or re-seat the SIM on the slots.
Troubleshooting Done:
+ Tried good known SIMs on the phone.
+ Tried doing the factory reset.
+ Tried clearing the cache on the phone from recovery mode.
+ The issue persist.
I don't think that this is a hardware problem, if it is i will get it replaced but need confirmation.
When did i start getting the issues:
+ I received the phone and started it without SIM to check if it's in working condition or not.
+ During setup, My i configured the wireless connection and updated the phone from 4.3 to 4.4.2 (till now i had not tried any SIM)
+ Phone rebooted in process of update and then i connected my SIM. It worked for few about couple of hours.
seems like this would be a known issue soon...

Moto G with KitKat 4.4.2 SIM not working

Hi Moto G users,
A colleague has upgraded her Moto G from eBay which was sold with no simlock and just an o2 branding to KitKat 4.4.2 via the WiFi connection until the new microSIM arrived. Then after activating and inserting the SIM there is no network on the phone and we also tried multiple other SIMs already and stopped after the new SIM worked in other phones. The SIM icon in the notification area is just crossed out red when inserted but no service shown in the About dialog. (see attached screenshot)
The only relevant information so far is that the KitKat update caused problems with the dual SIM version of the phone for users in India.
The OTA update installed on this phone is 176.44.1.falcon_umts.O2.en,DE
The Motorola support suggested to re-insert the SIM while the phone was running which did not fix the issue. Also rebooting it several times with SIM inserted and not and a full factory reset did not result in anything.
If you have any input or tips ... please feel free to advise ...
The Fastboot menu shows the line
Device is LOCKED. Status Code: 0
--> Does that mean that just the bootloader is locked or something else ?
Full output of the Fastboot menu:
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)
41.05 (sha-f4ab363, 2013-12-06 12:32:04)
CPU: MSM8226 CS
eMMC: 8GB Sandisk RV=06 PV=07 TY=17
DRAM: 1024 Samsung S4 SDRAM DIE=4Gb
Battery OK
Device is LOCKED. Status Code: 0
Connect USB Data Cable
Update:
The symbol and error messages indicate that the SIM is not recognized and even after adding some paper on the back of the SIM it still seems to not get detected.
So currently I am returning it for repairs or replacement.
