[TOOL] loki tool to loki recovery images on-device - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

Since a lot of new custom recoveries are being built without loki due to the unified builds, I made this tool to loki recoveries.
Procedure:
1) flash your favorite recovery
2) flash the attached loki_recovery.zip
Thanks @Phil3759 for loki updater scripts and @djrbliss for finding the exploit and attn1 for loki-doki.zip
This will only loki the recovery in your recovery partition. This will NOT loki ROMs or kernels.
DOWNLOAD

what does this mean/tool do exactly?
I know it allows to flash custom roms, but will this work for mk2?

No!

I'm not sure what is going on here. Loki-Doki was introduced by attn1 sometime around May of 2013. It is the flashable script that Loki's recoveries, Kernels, and Roms that are not already LOKI'd. It only works for MDB and MDL firmwares on AT&T because that is all that LOKI works for with AT&T..
So what is this all about?

Not to sound rude but I really did not know (and still don't) that there was a Loki team. I used stuff from @Phil3759's recovery zips and the original loki-doki.zip from attn1 as a guideline. If there is such a team, please do tell me who the members are in a pm and I will take the OP down till I get permission from them.

attn1 said that people can freely use his work for further development. However, generally, it's usually good form to recognize those that your work is based on. I agree with you that this could be very useful as long as people understand what it is for and the it will only work with MDB and MDL builds. My concern was that people will confuse this with LOKI-DOKI and that would cause a lot of issues. Unfortunately, you can explain 100 times in a thread what it is or isn't and it is always the responsibility of individuals to do their own research and reading, but the truth is, the name alone would throw people off. So changing the title is probably a good thing for their sakes.

here is a youtube video i made on how to manually flash a kernel on your device, please note: if there is no boot.img file in your roms zip file then you will need to modify the updater script which is NOT included in this tutorial
also note: if anything goes wrong, i nor the any devs on this forum are responsible for any damage or any misshap that this may cause FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK

sgs flasher does not do the same thing, it actually takes the kernel file and flashes it on its own, where as the method shown is installing it within a rom, now please note this tut was made for when you had to flash a kernel for jb (which jb one our devices doesnt work with sgs flasher)

[ALL DEVS (devs only) DISCUSSION] cwm, semi-official MIUI5 5, future of our phones.

Hello, let me go strictly to the topic.
I would like to provide semi-official MIUI5 for our Xperia J based on stock rom (and maybe for miro and tipo if there are any devs want to cooperate)
BUT
I need CWM for stock JB (the newest or the second build) to extract it from phone in zip form.
Honestly I have no idea how to make CWM working on JB so here is my request.
we need you,

To work on CWM for JB.
I think we (devs, semi-devs) should cooperate to make good content for our devices. Please share your experience, abilities, skills.
If there is anyone who knows how to work or only start working on CWM/TWRP for JB, tell us.
Pls devs show some initiative......

Porting either CWM or TWRP and sliping the recovery image into a kernel is no problem Doom lord left it in this section for someone to compile if thats all you want http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2200465&page=2 . Flashing it into the system with a locked bootloader is the major problem. My bootloader is unlockable so that is what i have been trying to do CWM for locked bootloader.
Sadly, I don't know how to use it. I have never been working on any kernel yet. I guess there are no guides for thise things

[I9505G] Guinea Pig Needed

Hey everyone,
I need a fellow Google Play Edition owner to be a guinea pig for us. I am attempting to get a CWM-flashable ZIP file out for those wishing to return their phone to a 100% stock, out-of-the-box state. Nobody seems to have done this yet, and since Google doesn't make factory images available and there is no Odin firmware on SamMobile, there is a legitimate need for this.
I have done a nandroid backup and have dumped the radio and bootloader. @TheManii is in the process of turning it into a flashable ZIP. This ZIP will include the stock JWR66Y/I9505GUEUBMH5 ROM and kernel, plus the stock recovery, radio and bootloader. If someone is willing to be the guinea pig for testing this ZIP, I'd be totally grateful. I'd test it myself but I use my phone for business and can't take the risk.
Any volunteers?
Thanks!
Have you seen this section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2448

Those are rooted. What I'm going for is 100% stock and unrooted, just as it was out of the box. I also saw the stock Heimdal images, but let's be honest, nobody uses Heimdal. Odin and custom recoveries are basically the de facto methods for flashing around here.

No because the I9505G subforum is purely for development. Once we have a working ZIP file, I will create a thread for it in the development area. For soliciting a tester, though, this is a more appropriate place I think. You aren't supposed to post anything in the development threads that isn't directly reheated to development.

I'd wager that most I9505G owners who frequent XDA have an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery installed. This would mean their warranties are already void.
Basically, I just need someone to make a nandroid backup of their current ROM, flash this, verify that it boots, then they can go back to whatever they had before.

I never understood all those people posting here asking for other users to try things on their phones, claiming "they would do it themselves, but they use the phone for work/business/etc". Most of us value our phones no matter what we use them for.
Just do it yourself outwith business hours.

[Q] Confused about kernel compatibility

Hey guys, got a Vzn S3, trying to use Safestrap to install a custom ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2605648
Now it mentions below that I need to make sure to flash the same Kernel on both ROMS, and provides the ML1 Kernel.
But now I'm on 4.4.2 (Kernel ver. 3.4.0 May 20, 2014)
The only other kernel I can find is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133550
But I'd rather make absolutely sure rather than mess up my device, esp. since it's a locked bootloader.
P.s: Would the Cyanogenmod Nightly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2558946
work with safestrap?

Read the sticky in the development section, then ask anything you don't understand.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
Sorry, which sticky do you mean? I've read them all already.
The 4.3 and 4.4 sticky, you're not understanding a lot of stuff or you haven't read all the linked material. Everything you're asking is linked or located in that thread already.
Short answer is no you can't use Cyanogenmod, you can't install custom kernels. Safestrap supplies kernel modules, not kernels to flash, you're not quite understanding exactly how safestrap works.
Basically you can't accomplish what you're asking, but if you want more details on why you can't and the limitations of the device read through all the linked material. It's too much to type out.

Safestrap and ROMS status

So with PingPong root proving that root can be obtained for the Verizon Samsung S6, the next step would be to obtain some form of recovery that would allow us to flash Touchwiz based ROMS with certain features removed, hidden, or added. This thread will be devoted to getting status and updates on Safestrap and/or ROM versions.
I'd like to start off by stating the two absolutes that I'd like to see:
Debloat
Native Mobile Hotspotting (Wifi Tether)

Forgive my ignorance, but when flashing with flashfire, are we replacing the stock ROM without using recovery? Or are we adding a new rom "next to" the original, and booting into it?
If you know of a "Flashfire for dummies" I would love a link! I really have no clue. I've never dealt with flashing anything but the old fashion way (cwm/twrp). Which, to add to my confusion, TWRP is now available for the S6

it depends on what variant you have.. if you have a locked BL twrp will not work for you.
To be honest there is no flashfire for dummies as it's pretty dummied down already lol. you have your typical wipe options and flashing options and backup/restore options.
to my knowledge it flashes to your regular partition you always use..
so set it to wipe and then install ROM.zip as usual.
flashing regular mods or zips you simple select flash zip, choose it and flash.
its sort of like its own recovery.. you'll see a loading screen followed by the screen that shows you what its flashing (update-script) so everything is selected from the app (not while in a recovery)

I think what he was trying to say was......before posting questions about flashfire, please check out this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/paid-software/flashfire-t3075433
Once you have at least read through the OP of this post and searched that forum for answers to your questions, then ask the community.
The best way I could describe flashfire is like having an easier to use version of Safestrap that is run on demand rather than as an option on each boot. If you want to flash something, you load it up in Flashfire first and tell flashfire each step you want it to follow and then click flash and it goes to work. I'd liken it to boot from CD for Windows (i.e. windows bypasses the boot up commands and instead loads files from the CD to boot up with....you'll notice with flashfire that after your boot, it loads a bunch of files very quickly and then enters a recovery mode to flash the files. But I'm just blabbering, give it a chance and you'll see it is easy making bacon taste good!
So is the real reason there is a lack of dev support and ROM cooking for this device is the locked bootloader ? It's likely we'll see a very small amount of (admittedly very good) ROMS here ?
