[Q] Was the Camera always-on problem fixed in custom ROM's already? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Google recently found a problem in 4.4.2 KitKat that whenever a app accessed the camera the process behind it will always stay on, no matter if the camera isn't needed anymore or if the app is closed or not. Only a reboot would be the solution.
As the title suggests, has this been fixed in customs ROM's as PURITY already?

I think nop. That's why some dev also ask google to publy the fix in AOSP source code as it seems to affect more than one device and they want to be able to fix their roms

It won't be fixed in custom Roms until 4.4.3 source is released.

[Q] Android 4.4.4 Volume control bug

Hello, I am using Nightlies for Paranoid 4.4 on Motorola Moto G rom, but I think this problem exsist on other roms. The problem is when I try to change volume in music player its verry delayed. Sometimes when I press volume up button once, it goes not by one, but all the way to max volume. Tried different roms, still same problem. So maybe someone had same problem and know how to fix it? thanks
UP
I have the same problem, there is also a delay while pausing the music.
Best to report it in the associated ROM thread.
This is a CM bug, the most part of ROMs is based on CM sources, because of this the Paranoid has this bug

From what I read on google, other phones also have this bug, even with stock roms after update to 4.4.4.

Just wondering..is this rom good enough for daily use? Is it better than stock 4.1.2 (4.2.2 is terrible btw) because i do bot know whether to flash this or not. Also, can you flash it using cwm as I dont really like the TWRP ui

I think it's stable enough for daily use. I use it for many days without any restart or any problem.
You have to update to 4.2.2 first (It won't work on 4.1.x bootloader)
You must know to backup whatever data you don't want to loose cause a full wipe is needed.
Read the first post for warnings, bugs etc. The main bug is bluetooth headset (if you own one).
And yes, you can install from CWM. Instructions on first post.
Also, read third post to keep it fast as long and as "hard" as you use it.

@sujith88 no, for custom roms you need custom recovery ( CWM or Philztouch)

How to get sources for CM11 for I9105P?
In "[ROM][4.4.4][UNOFFICIAL][M11]Cyanogenmod 11.0" the location of the device specific source code is given as https://github.com/SamsungBCM-Cyanog..._samsung_s2vep and https://github.com/SamsungBCM-Cyanog...ys2plus-common and https://github.com/SamsungBCM-Cyanog...ys2plus-common.
How can I set up a build environment for the I9105P? I already read (an understood) "Learning to build Cyanogenmod" and getting the CM11 sources with repo is no problem, the only problem remaining is how to specify the above mentioned two device specific sources. Can this be done with a local mainfest in the local_manifest directory? If yes, how does this have to look like and what steps are necessary to sync with these two repositories? Are additional steps specific to the I9105P necessary to start a build?
Vibration
So you said the rom is good for daily use... In the main thread I saw numerous comments about vibration being buggy and sometimes non functional. Is this true? The 4.4.2 cm11 by cooldevelopement has fully working vibration. So should I flash cm11 m11 (4.4.4) or 4.4.2? And in the m11 build, are there any other bugs apart from whats listed under "known issues"? Now Android lollipop is just round the corner I hope to have at least the second latest android version :/ 4.1.2 is starting to show it's age when it comes to app compatibility...

Hi, thanks for replying! I already know there is a 4.2.2 offical firmware for the s2 plus, thanks. I dont know about you, but when I updated it I experienced major lag issues, even after doing a factory reset, claering cache, reflashing, etc. Its overall a terrible update from the almost bug free 4.1.2. However, 4.1.2 is soon 3 versions behind and I was looking into flashing one of these awesome looking ROMs that are running 4.4. (Just love how AOSP looks :3) However, I dont really know which ROM i should flash
I think I have decided to flash a cm rom, anyways, but which version should I flash? I used cooldevelopement's cm11 4.4.2 rom in the past, which seems mostly bug free. However I switched back to stock 4.1.2 due to the old youtube app versions having the pixelated vid that the 4.2.2 stock rom used to suffer from. Is this 4.4.4 cm Better or worse than the older 4.4.2 cm I installed before? Thanks in advance sorry for a long message

[DISCUSSION] Stock Motorola ROM 5.1 VS 5.1.1 bases ROM's

Hey guys, you who used stock 5.1 and custom ROMS that are having the latest Android version (5.1.1): what differences do you notice?
As we all know 5.1.1 is the latest version which fixes the memory leak, and Moto is still a version behind on 5.1.1: stock only is Android 5.1.
How would you compare stock to the latest Android version with the latest bugfixes and memory leak fix?
Would it be possible that Moto backported 5.1.1 fixes to stock 5.1?
Can a moderator edit "bases ROM's" to "5.1.1-based custom ROMS? I made a typo

It is more a question of CM12.1 vs Stock ROM.
With the Stock Motorola Lollipop you have (at least in theory) a bug free ROM, it will work in every situation and scenarios.
Where with a custom ROM you will have more experimental features, a more tunable kernel and settings (that can either improve or break a ROM) and, to be honest, more support as they update almost every week where Motorola go very slow.

Yeah that's true. I was just wondering if the 5.1 version still has the memory leak which was resolved in 5.1.1. Also, CM12 based roms don't support notification tickers anymore, not even through Xposed so that's a bit pity too. But they do have features you can't find in stock or Xposed.
Just wondering which ROM gives the best performance, CM12 or optimized stock or just plain AOSP without any tweaks.

I can't say if Motorola fix the Memory issue or not. I can say too that some CM12.1 ROMs did have memory issues even at 5.1.1 but i think all are gone now.
About performance, a custom ROM for sure will bring you that. I'm not a big fan of motorola "optimizations" for our devices, in fact i would say they don't do at all.
It all depends really, you could get stock 5.1 with moggy kernel v12 which is very smooth being a linaro based kernel with other optimizations as well. (I was running that earlier today)
But you could also get a custom ROM such as blisspop. Which is very very poorly developed on our device.
A ROM that the developer uses as a daily driver is likely to be better than stock. However you'll find ROMs such as BlissPop where the developer does not run the ROM on our device and merely syncs with latest sources and uploads the builds without testing them first.
Those ROMs are likely to provide worse performance and definitely less stability than stock. Unless of course you flash a custom kernel over it, but then you've just got a sugar coated turd. And nobody wants a turd.

YEs that is true, also there are some ROMs that are much more experimental then stable.
So a research would be need.
That being said, stock is always the safest bet but a nice custom ROM will be superior if he find one.
I'm personally very happy with Euphoria and the R35 version of the Optimus Kernel.
But you (@Sparubens ) would need to flash all the roms to find the one who fit you better, stock and non stock
It's worth considering the difference in Battery-life of Stock Firmware / ROMs in comparison to non-Stock custom ROMs. That could be an interesting thread.

I did flash almost every ROM here but there always seems to be an issue:
-CM12.1 is stable and fast, but doesn't have 4 tiles per row option in QS Settings and doesn't support notification ticker anymore (Xposed), SaberMod is smooth (Beeto) but there's a bug where you can't access SuperSU without dialing a code
- SlimROM wasn't a good experience when trying it to use as daily driver, sluggish and bad multitasking
- CM12.1 based ROMS like CrDroid and Euphoria I do really like, have some bugs like screen pinning causing reboot (CrDroid) and also no real Xposed support for CrDroid and Euphoria doesn't register all touches on the keyboard and makes my phone a bit hot, otherwise I would be very happy to have it as a daily driver, AICP was running okayish but there's been a bug for over a month that when opening the data quick menu, the percentage is misaligned, and it still hasn't been fixed.
- Stock 5.1 is nice, but it's a version behind 5.1.1 so that's not very nice either. Also heavily lacking in options, but I can use Xposed. Also there are 2 carrier labels on the lockscreen which makes no sense at all..
Also, in custom ROMS the torch doesn't seem to be functioning fully, the light density is not at it fullest. Sadly there seem to be some quirks with every ROM.
I'm ready to make compromises and have a ROM as daily driver which doesn't support notification ticker (basically all of them atm) but then there's also the torch issue sadly which pushes me more back to stock. But then again, nobody knows if stock still has the memory leak and opinions have been very different from person to person about stock 5.1.
Some interesting opinions over here, keep 'em coming!
@lost101 I personally think that there's no custom ROM that can match the battery life of stock, it has been impressive, surely on Lollipop.

That's why we have a lot of roms outthere, everyone can choose what match better with everyone, if you want something without issues choose stock, but don't have the optimizations options, if you prefer the options, choose the one you consider is better, but always have to sacrifice something

Cyanogenmod 12.1 and Galaxy i9100 (intl)

Hi everyone,
New in town and wanted to ask some questions .
I'm thinking of updating my i9100 with the latest snapshot (stable as it goes) of cm 12.1 from the cyanogenmod guys.
1. Is there anyone that can guide me through any known issues/bugs related to this version of cm and this specific device?
2. Secondly, i looked through the internet and most people say that the only negative about this rom is the camera app (google camera i presume...). They say that the quality of the pictures is far less than the samsung stock camera. Is this true? And if yes, is there not a possibility to install another camera app (point me to one if you please) in the cm rom instead of using the cm google camera? Or maybe you could point me to the exact stock samsung camera app of 4.1.2 that i currently own and install it after the update...?
Thanks in advance. Looking forward for your answers.

1. for questions like this, it is best to post in your device specific q&a forum. everyone there will have your device, so questions will usually be answered more quickly. look at the top of the page, there is a device search box to help you find your device forum.
2. yes the google cam is not as good as stock, but its not horrible either. i use it all the time on my nexus.
there are many camera apps on the play store, and someone in your forum may have a better idea of what ones work best with your device, but no, you cant put the stock cam on cm, it wont work. this a a fairly common downside of custom roms, certain stock things or apps (varies by device) just arent possible to merge into the custom software at this time, and may never be.
Thank you very much for your help. You're quite right about the device "specific" forum.
I will immediately give it a try there.
Thanks again mate.

Is there any ROM that supports DNG/RAW photos and isn't severely outdated?

Been trying to figure out a way to get RAW image support back without having to deal with broken apps and the playstore thinking my phone is incompatible with half the apps I use, and I can't find anything at all. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for your response and for the links.
Apologies for my ignorance on this matter, I'm basically clueless when it comes to android ROMs. In the jgcaap thread, many users are discussing how a particular build has vastly superior camera quality but lacks security patches. What would your advice be if for someone who only cares about app compatibility and camera quality? Is there a specific build of jgcaaps I should look for?
Hi everyone has a different opinion, i think you should try the roms and decide for yourself. I use Jgcaap rom, i dont panic about the security issues... its a phone, of all the apps i use only one doesnt work with it, i think if you change the device firgerprint id with magisk all the apps will show up but i havent test it. Good Luck
