I have an old SIII that was on v4.1. It quit working due to a broken screen. I did an insurance claim on a different sIII and the new phone came with 4.3 pre installed. What would happen if I put the good glass/screen from 4.3 phone onto the old one with 4.1? It is a legit phone so I should be able to get a new sim from verizon and activate it... correct?

Well you should be able to just swap out the motherboard if you really wanted to, better than trying to swap the screen out. You'd probably break it in the process.

Well I ordered the Nexus and the original one had issuses with the screen so I returned it for a replacement. The second one had the same issue and when I tried to get it replaced (within 14 days of receiving the new phone) I was told that Samsung will only let me send it in for warranty work. Google said that wasn't acceptable since I hadn't gotten a working phone so it should be replaced. Then Google said that I can return it for a full refund and order a new one if I wanted to stay with the Nexus. But since I still had the G2X hanging out I decided to return the Nexus totally and and just stick with the G2x. Sad coming from a fully functioning ICS to this phone, but hey, I'll save $435.
Welcome back!
Not to rub it in, but my Nexus luckily was a good one from the beginning... I think.
However, I think you could do a lot more with a G2x and $435.
Yeah my second one wasn't really that bad, but for $435 I shouldn't have to deal with the screen being messed up. It also sucks that they aren't standing behind hte product. I definitely agree with doing more with the $435 though lol. All I really want is a phone that doesn't freeze so I can use the alarm.
You tried the new baseband and 2.3.4 update?
And sort of related: What were your Nexus screen issues?
Yeah i had to do the manual update since the ota didn't work (not sure if my root had anything to do with it) and so far so good. The screen was faded badly from right to left on the first phone and top to bottom on the second.
i was looking at buying either the gnex or the s3, but North America is only getting the dual core model, as i thought wind and TMobile were getting the quad core.
nfc was the main reason i wanted to switch. But I'm gonna wait till August to see lg roll out ics so cm9 can get tegra sources.
Btw, i love my phone. Don't know if im alone on this.

So a few months back I bought the gs3 from best buy after my thunderbolt pushed me over the edge and it made very hard contact with a brick wall. I went to best buy and paid cash for the gs3 despite I could of used an upgrade did not want to lose my unlimited data plan. When the note 2 came out my wife said I could buy it and she wanted my gs3. Well last week I ordered it and popped my sim in it and they transfered my old sim to her number and ever since the gs3 locks up 5-6 times a day. The screen will light and go off but is frozen. Have to battery pull. It literally started doing this the first time 15 minutes after Verizon reporgrammed her sim card. I called them today and told them to send me a new one. So now I am waiting. I just really hope this isn't a hardware issue as I don't want a refurb of something I paid 700 bucks for 4 months ago. Has anyone else had this problem. Yes I have wiped front to back several times. No dirty flashes. Never over clocked locks on every ROM I try and never did this once until reprogram of sim. Please someone tell me they have had a sim do this to make me feel a little better. The only good thing that can come out of the phone being bad is she wants the white one so I could have them send me it instead of another blue. Thanks in advance for some responses and input.
Know one? I guess I'm just gonna Odin and send it back. Piece of crap 700 bucks for a phone and in 3 months now I'm gonna have a refurbished pos.
Have you just odined to stock and see if it works right

Not yet. I'm waiting on a new sim card should be here today Verizon told me sometimes the sim cards fail after switching the numbers in them. Sounds like bs but i figured I'd wait for the sim so I didn't have to do unnecessary steps. If that doesn't work I'm going to Odin. If that doesn't work I guess I'll settle for a refurb. Seems like Samsung has some of the least reliable phones especially in the past but there the only phones I've had lockup issues with. I don't over clock. I try not to under volt or even change kernels from stock unless its packaged with ROM. But this phone even locked in aroma installer one time before I could even click next. Pretty aggrivating.
Its actually doing the exact same thing both of my fascinates did. And I odined them lots to try avoid getting refurbs. 6 months later the refurbs were back to doing the same thing. Battery pulls all day long. Should have stuck with HTC I'm beginning to think.

I'm a long time HTC user myself, went thru the Eris, Inc1,Inc2,Inc4, Rezound, and HTC DNA. and at one time had a gnex before trading for my rezound, I always loved HTC, but I did not like the HTC DNA at all.
It would be tough decision for me though over the sg3 and HTC one X+
I had to switch back to VRLHE modem/RPM, and take out my sdcard to fix my horrid battery life, and idk if it was the modem/RPM or sd-card yet, but im leaving it as is for now lol.
Well installed new sim card as per Verizon and within 10 minutes screen locked up. Nice. Just odined back to 4.0.4 stock relocked boot loader thanks Verizon rep for dropping my brand new phone and f-ing it all up so now I get stuck with a refurb. Go jump off a cliff.
Has anyone had to get a replacement recently? I haven't seen a post or discussion on this recently and Google only brings up the 2012 shortage. Just wondering if they are sending S3's or switching devices on folks. If they are sending S3's, are they coming with the 4.3 locked bootloader and Knox. If so does anyone want to buy a refurb S3?
I can count on one hand how few times I've dropped my S3 since I got preordered it. I dropped it in the grass in my yard, face down with the extended battery, and the screen shattered. UGH!

I've seen a few people who said they got a replacement. Only 1 said it came with 4.1.2 and the rest came with 4.3. I'd guess you'd probably end up with a locked bootloader.
Maybe you can call asurion and ask them to ship you one with 4.1.2.

I ended up with a locked replacement sadly after my s3 died two weeks ago

After upgrading to 4.3 and its horrible battery life, I went and complained to my local Verizon store, and they put in a request for a free (yes, no deductible) replacement and it came with the MB1 firmware!! Instantly rooted and froze SDM
And this was within the last 3 weeks
Dang... Sounds like my only hope is that the local store doesn't suck. Either that or that someone eventually figures a way around the bootloader. I know there's the bootstrap method but I've had pretty miserable luck with bootstraps soft bricking.
Guess I'll look into the HTC One, their latest update to lock it down hasn't been pushing very long. Any mention of the S5 having Knox?

I had a Rezound, got a replacement that was the SGS3. 4.3, locked bootloader. If they are replacing other devices with SGS3s... they have to have some of them, eh?

It turns out that if you have a white 32GB GS3, they are out of stock. Your picks are a 32GB pebble blue GS3 or a 32GB white GS4. I guess it really doesn't matter since the bootloader would have been locked down anyways. I wasn't ever impressed with the GS4 but maybe I'll be able to sell it easier than an S3. I'm done with commercial Samsung devices, especially with this Knox crap. I'll be sticking to Nexus or GPE devices.
I got a replacement and mine was 4.1.2, I was really happy it didn't have 4.3

S3 or S4 and how long ago? Maybe I screwed up going with the S4.
Long story short, a bad update to CM 11 M6 and some sleep deprevation and I tried to reset it and start again. I managed to download the wrong stock rom, 4.3 and now my phone is nearly unusable (reboots, SD corruption, apps won't install, etc.) and Verizon won't touch it since I dared to root it. I can't deal with the issues since it's my primary and I need it for work so I'm going have to get a new one and just try to sell this and recoup some money.
The phone in question is a Galaxy S3 SCH-535. I'm month-to-month so while I didn't want to I can get a phone on contract. I can't stand OEM customizations so I want a nice, modifiable phone. Something without a locked bootloader or other crap that I can do what I want with. I was looking at the S4, S5 and HTC One M8 in particular but I'm not sure which one will meet my requirements.
So, what is the best Verizon phone that is customizable? A quick answer would be nice since I don't want to be down more than I have too in case work calls me.
Edit: Missed the question notice and I couldn't delete it, sorry.

Anyone have any experience doing this? How closely do they check the phone? Do I really need to sweat taking it back to stock? Don't want to waste that time till I'm sure they have what I want in stock. Running cm11 on my vzw s3 now.. Eligible for early edge upgrade, want to walk in and do it in store, do I need to reflash, or just wipe before I hand it over? Thx!

I'd say just go back to stock and unroot. They aren't smart enough to even know what rom flashing is or rooting for that matter. I went in the store one time it was a bad battery, I only knew this after the fact but all the guy did for me was order another replacement. Yea they don't have a clue when it comes to repairs
From my CM11 S3
OK, did not unroot or anything.. A they checked was physical condition and that it was on and operational.. Keep in mind this was an early edge upgrade turn in, not a warranty swap.. So no problems.. Once guy told me we where good, I did a wipe on the phone and handed it over...

There you go. As long as it worked that's all that matters
From my CM11 S3
Their only concern is physical damage, I turned in my gs3 running an AOSP rom and they did not care
