Hi guys,
Since the day I bought the Moto G (XT1032 bought on Amazon UK) I have a problem with push notifications on Instant Messaging apps (like Hangouts and Facebook Messenger).
With Facebook Messenger (that is the IM I use most of the time), only 50% or 33,3% of the notifications arrive, when the Moto G is on WIFI, with the screen off and not conected to a charger.
And yes, I checked and the wifi is set to be always on, even with the screen off.
So, when someone send me messages on FB Messenger, I only receive 1 of 2, or 1 of 3 messages. Most of the time, I recive one and the other don't.
With Hangouts, the problem is just with the first message: It can take lot's of minutes to receive the message that starts the conversation. The others arrieve with no problem. But when I reboot the phone, the problem with the first message starts again.
In both apps, when the notification doesen't arrive, if I press the power button to turn the screen on, the notification arrive at that exact second (it's like its stuck in the phone, and the power button is like a trigger).
And, the stuck message will arrive too if I receive other messages (it can be from the same person), and the phone will vibrate twice (for the new message and for the stucked one)
I tried this on different routers, with different internet providers, I even tried with my Galaxy S as a hotspot, using my 3G Internet, but the problem is always there.
So 2 weeks ago, I unlocked my Moto G to install CyanogenMod, to see if the problem was from the Motorola firmware, but with the CyanogenMod Rom, the problem is still there.
So, this is why I'm starting this thread, to see if there is more people that can reproduce this problem, and to try to find a way to solve it.
If someone need logcats or other type of logs to try to find out whats happening, I will send them as soon as possible.
Thank you, and sorry my bad english.
PS: This is my second Moto G (I asked for a replacement because of this bug), so, I think that this is not a hardware problem of my phone.

Hey! I had the exact same problem with the RAZR HD (xt925), I've got it replaced twice, with the same problem... just like you... so they finally replaced the razr hd for a xperia zl (6502), the xperia had android 4.2.2 (at the time) and the problem was COMPLETELY GONE!.. so, well.. as the time passed by, the 4.3 came up, updated... and guess what?? the exact same problem from the razr HD was back in this xperia zl. I had decided to roll back to the 4.2.2 again... there aren't any delayed notifications on this firmware. Seems like it's a power saving mode of some sort. who knows :/

Hey! Did you end up finding a solution to this problem? I have this same problem with my moto g and I can't find a way to fix it. Any help would be apreciatated

I have the Verizon Touch Pro2 and recently upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.5 using the official release.
I saw someone else have this problem (he posted a video of the issue) but I cannot find if he found a solution.
Normally, if you press the top button, the blacklight turns the device's backlight on or off. If off and you press the Power button, the device tells you "Backlight is off. Press button to turn on." and points to the top button with a little green arrow.
Well, something is wrong with mine. When the backlight is off, pressing the top button does nothing. The problem is intermittent and very frustrating.
Now the device is not locked/crashed because the power button will bring up the message. Also, if I call my phone, it comes up. If I txt my phone, it comes up. If I plug my phone into my computer via USB, it comes up. But pressing the top button doesnt make it come up.
I've flashed the phone 3 times to try to get rid of the problem. Originally the phone had the 6.1 stock Verizon ROM. I have not ever try to load a custom ROM on this phone. I have no special software installed on the phone. I am not using the Sense interface, I'm using the Windows Default.
Please help! & Thanks to all you gurus!
I've only noticed this problem when my device gets too hot, so try to keep it out of the sun/heat. I've been on Mighty Mike rom for the past week and have had no issues.
i dont think its the heat..

i have not noticed any heat issues. the problem has occurred both when the device was plugged in and not plugged in. in rooms with temperatures from 68° to 76° F and never in direct sunlight..
i think the problem has something to do with email.
i have it setup to check my yahoomail via imap. its downloading messages from years ago, even though its been setup to do only the past 30 days, how is this possible?
ive seen it say 2000+ new emails on the today screen, and dating back to 2003 the last time i was able to turn the backlight on via USB, the yahoomail account was in a perpetual disconnecting... sometimes erroring at being unable to synchronize at all..
also the error reporting service has told me that "tmail.exe" keeps crashing.. im assuming its crashing cause its getting overloaded with too many emails.. can any provide some input?
ive deleted the yahoomail account for now and will see if it happens again..
update
almost 24 hours later, no locking up. device is running smooth.
i fear that the issue is related to the email problem.
it downloading 2000+ emails must have been it.. im assuming
has anyone else had the backlight issue? and have you found it may be related to email?
im going to wait 2 more days and re-add the yahoomail account and see what happens.
That is very interesting. Have you tried using seven for your mail?
http://www.seven.com/
almost 48 hours later..

no ive never heard of it.. it looks like id have to join a beta to get it for my phone..
and although i enjoy the idea of using something that works i dont like just giving up on the whatever is wrong with the software.
and...
almost 48 hours later the phone has not at all locked up.. i fear the issue is directly related to whatever it was doing with my yahoomail account.
the settings were: imap yahoomail, html, 2kb, 30days, no attachments.. i think thats all thats relevant.. and it was downloading well over 2000 messages from as far back as 2003
im going to add the mail account back tonight to see what happens..

Since you mentioned it I was mulling it over...I really think you are onto something with that mail message, because the two times I did that I had a message waiting.
Seven should be free, I've posted the cab below.
Same thing with mine...
I've had the same thing happening with my TouchPro 2. I found a quasi-work around that helps limit the number of freezes, but it sure increases the number of pocket-dials I make. In the advanced section of the power settings deselect the "turn off backlight if device is not used for" box. Then decrease the "turn off device if not used for" box to 1 minute. I'm still getting really good battery life (lasts all day) and it's not a new battery.
I sure hope there's some sort of update or fix for this issue soon, because this is only a work-around.
Backlight issue on Verizon
I was having the same problem. I do not know if you have mobile email installed. I did. I removed it and so far so good. You will have to hold the back light button for about three seconds sometimes but it always works. No more soft resets. The only issue is that you have to contact Verizon and have them stop the text notifications from OZ Mail. The way Mobile E mail works is the third party software company sends a text which you never see because mobile email software gets it and uses it to give you the notification that you have new mail. Tech support had to create a trouble ticket in order to stop these text messages. Every time I got a email I would get a text from OZ mail with about 20 something alphanumeric numbers. SO far so good!
I had this problem with mine and it appeared to have something to do with my 3.5 audio jack... it was like it thought there was somthing plugged in there but there wasn't. as soon as i plugged in my headphones the screen came right on...
update - and semi-isolation
so after days of not having my yahoomail account configured, and my phone not locking up once, i added it back with the following settings:
imap, 7days, 2kb, no attachments. (the original issue occurred with similar settings, only 30day past messages and not 7)
it worked for a few days, then when i was leaving work today i took my phone out of my locker and noticed the backlight was on. an alarm had gone off.
then i looked at yahoomail and it said i had 2000+ new messages.. the first message dated from august 2008
i turned the backlight off. when i tried to turn it back on it worked. but later in the evening it did not. it hung like it was doing when i started this thread. and it was in the process of "downloading headers" for hours. upon clicking "send/receive" to make it disconnect, it sat on disconnect for a long time, without doing anything.
something is clearly wrong with yahoomail or perhaps simply the imap service
who should be contacted? someone at verizon?

i noticed my screen coming back on this evening when i got out of my car. i have bluetooth set up from my car deck to my phone for audio streaming and hands free.. it automatically connects when i turn the car on and disconnects when i turn the car off. upon disconnect the phone usually displays an error saying that the hands-free device has been disconnected.
it looks like the phone will respond when any kind of event happens (ie plug/unplug of headphones, phone call, txt message, alarm, etc..) so whatever the hell is wrong the phone is not actually crashed, just the backlight wont respond to the top button..
What your describing bis not new... nor is it limited the the TP2 or HTC phones. Commonly referred to as "failure to wake" or "sleep of death" (do ba search). Potentially effects all WinMo devices.
Frequently attributed to programs running in the background as the phone goes into sleep mode. By Programs, this could mean an active applicationyou initiated, a system program running invisibly in the background or an event that creats a notification while the phone was asleep.
Workaround is similar to what you've already tried: Extend the amount of time it takes for the device to go to sleep (+ve found 3 minutes sufficient, allowing for more time to multitask with multiple programs running).
Try not to put the phone to sleep with known programs running under the task manager.
Use Lumos to conserve battery life, since youre possibly keeping the device on for longer periods.
Keep availible RAM using a RAM cleaner and clean up duplicate notifications. I use MemMade for both.
This is a software issue and the circumstances are descibed in Microsoft's documentation for software developers. They test for programs that contribute,or create this problem before they go into the marketplace.
Sorry for the typos. In class banging out a hasty responce.
I've been having the same issue too, intermitantly maybe twice a month. I can't find any pattern.
I use Google Latitude, Batti, and I sync email every 30 minutes (Exchange to my univeristy, and IMAP to AOL) but I also have my computer set to download messages and erase messages after 2 days so I never have more than about 100 messages to sync.
WM 6.5 Verizon ROM (it came preloaded out of the box)
Sometimes, it locks up immediately after bootup (as a moment ago) sometimes it will run great for weeks before having problems. I can't find a pattern.
Hi guys
My girlfriend updated her UK unrooted stock O2 Desire S with the OTA update yesterday with no problems. However, since then, she has not been able to receive calls when the phone is in a locked state.
When the phone is unlocked, it goes to the screen with buttons at the bottom and is fine (call is answered, taken, hung up, no problem). However, when the phone is locked and the "rings" come up to answer or reject, the call is taken, the phone.android.process (I think) force close, the call is cancelled and signal is lost for a few moments before the phone returns to normal
I have tried pulling the battery and turning off fast boot, neither have helped.
Just wondering if anyone else has had these issues, and if so, is there a fix?
Cheers

go to the market and download and install the app called "no lock" this will disable the lockscreen.
although i do not know the main cause for your issue, this will be a temporary fix until you manage to sort it properlly
my friend has a similar problem, but only with one contact calling him - me
he added fb account (I left my number on my fb account) ,fb for htc account(both)
to his phone,so after mergin my 3 contact details or even 4,when I call him his phone goes FC,out of network,sd preparing etc,etc..so I just unlinked FB(only FB not FB for htc) from other contact details and thing sorted out. its a shot in the dark, but try something like this.
I have the same issue on my Desire S. Although my error message is "com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly".
I am then forced to enter my 4-digit pincode for the SIM card.
So far I also think it is only when one person is calling me (he has a Legend, other frequent callers are Samsung old one, and Iphone 4, if it makes a difference).

my friend has the same issue, pin and all that. but only when I call him. im usin desire s,its not the phone i think and im sure its coz of the facebook account and facebook for htc sense. as i already said,he has my number in phone and i have my number on mu fb profile,so when he sync all those accounts and link them into one contact thats when the trouble starts. when I call him phone gets fc and restarts (sort of) preparing sd and pin input. so after i unlink only contact detail thats synced from Facebook app,and call him then everything's ok,and the picture shown is from fb profile not the contact from phone. hope u get what im trying to say my english is not that good

Thanks for the suggestion - I have now removed my phone number from my FB account, and unlinked my friend from syncing with FB in the contacts. I'll have him call me tomorrow to see if it works.
I'll let you know.

Hi guys.
November 28 I have a problem with the notifications of Hangouts and Facebook Messenger. If the message comes on the screen turned off it does not notice. It was only when I turn the screen it appears notification. I checked everything, from programs, modifying the change ROM with another version of Android and the kernel. During testing, it does not turn the settings, do not sync anything but I installed hangouts. Also format the memory card. I do not know what to do. I did not change the radio, I do not know what is.
Thanks for any advice.
Felt that no one knows the cause. Strange problem...
Maybe someone is interested. I found this:
[APP][2.2+][ROOT][FREE][12-SEP-2013] Push Notifications Fixer v4.1
Google Talk disconnecting repeatedly, also affecting push notifications
I will check. Strange that only me that problem exists.
No change. Push Notification with Hangouts and Facebook Messenger comes along with notification of new mail with Gmail (including notification push). I do not know what else to do...
Be sure you're not the only one.
I'm struggling with the exact same problem on my HTC One XL for mothes.
Nothing helps.
I'm mad by now...
So do I. So far I have not found this method, and lost a substantial functionality.
I tried to contact Google several times, but no response. Waiting for service updates to version 4.1.31 google, as nothing will change that sell Sensation...
Problem solved, it turned out that I had no Z710 Sensation, only Sensation 4G. I do not know what exactly is different except that 4G was available in T-Mobile.
Hi guys,
The first weeks with my Moto G everything worked perfectly fine but now i have a problem and i will try to explain it.
When a friend on facebook sends me a chat message i will get a notification on my Moto G which got the Messenger app installed. Now before, when i would read the message on my PC via facebook.com, the notification would automatically disappear on my phone, but now this no longer happens! The notification stays, even after reading the message on my desktop. So i now have to wake up my phone, unlock it, start the Messenger app and then (and only then) the notification will disappear.
What could cause this problem?
Thanks in advance!!
Hello,
I am having a problem with my phone which is driving me up the wall. I think it's an issue with the version of Android rather than some physical issue with the phone.
I'm finding I'm not getting my notifications in a timely manner. For example, someone could send me a message on Whatsapp and I don't get a notification until 10 hours later (no exaggeration) or I get a two notifications from eBay saying a item is about to end and the other that I've missed it. It's making it difficult to enjoy using the phone.
I've tried disabling power optimization and allowing background data but to no avail. I've also factory reset my phone which seems to make no difference. Can anyone make a suggestion on how to resolve this?
Nick
Try to reset your phone from factory
Ensure the apps are not optimized as it seems like these are apps that require an internet connection.
Sent from my HTC U11 plus using Tapatalk
Any ideas guys if this will be solved soon.?
I went back to the seller and received another U11 Plus and same behaviour.
Phone calls are working as expected , whatsapp working , only email notification are not working and this is a real problem for me.
Any suggestions ?
Thank you,
George.
