Just wondering if this is possible to use in Canada. I know Samsung has the Beep 'n Go app that seemed to work pretty well. However google wallet is still not available in Canada to use.
Google hates Canada. Its true...and I'm not flaming, I'm in Canada too.
Can't tell Google now to play my music, cause I don't live in the states. I mean wow. Lol

Is it more that the Banks and Credit card companies in Canada are not willing to support Google Wallet? Remember that Canadian adoption of advanced financial options like debit cards far exceeded the US for a long time. That would mean that Canadian financial institutions want you to use their already established methods such as the Interact terminals you see at a Tim Hortons. Can those devices support tap to pay from a phone? I already see people use credit card tap to pay at my local grocery store but only if you are using a specific credit card company.

RBC / Bell allow the Galaxy S3 and S4 to use your phone to tap to pay, but requires a nfc sim card and doesn't actually work yet, but does promise the same support for future phones if they decide to bless them. Insert disgusted sarcastic smiley. (Sounds stupid to me, all you should need to use in that scenario is the nfc sim to tap and pay, the phone is irrelevant other than setup. How about using a NFC ring instead of a phone? Attach an NFC sticker to your finger, done, real tap and pay.)
There is no hate for Canada, Google is a US based company and caters to the US market.

I have recently got the HTC One X which has NFC, I was refusing to get a phone without NFC but I have worked out in the UK it is useless. There are many NFC enabled payment terminals all over the country, every Gregs has one also Mcdonalds and many other shops, however there are no apps to utilise this technology. In the US they have Google Wallet, in sweeden (I think) they have pay-pal but we have nothing in the UK.
Does anyone know of any NFC enabled payment apps that will work on the three network in the UK on an unrooted phone?
I am getting really annoyed with the slowness of technology in the UK, there is no 4G, the underground has not made an NFC oyster card app and banks are not incorporating NFC into their apps either unlike a lot of others around the world.
What are you thoughts on this lack of technology available to us compared to other countries?

It's incredibly annoying. But I've been using Google Wallet for the past few months at McDonalds and Greggs. I used the initial $10 and then got my friend to purchase a $100 prepaid mastercard fro me in the US.
Orange say they'll be releasing their Quick Tap application to Android users with NFC phones some time soon, but I'm not sure about exactly how it will work. If it's going to use the built-in Secure Element, they'll have to get permission and secret codes from Google/HTC first. If it's going to use the SIM card as the secure element, then it will probably only work with Orange SIMs, which sucks.
Furthermore, I'm not even sure if they'll support the One X - it isn't supported with Google Wallet afterall.
I use a Galaxy Nexus and I worry that Quick Tap won't be supported, as I'm pretty sure they'll be using the SIM as the secure element, but I'm not sure if the Nexus actually has that functionality. We should know within about a month.

I think google have been very slack with their wallet app and will not reach the desired market by keeping it to one or two phones. There are loads of NFC enabled phones out there running on android and they need to sort them selves out.
I think the ONE X will be capable of running the google wallet if I could get it in this country without rooting.
I am hoping HTC will be able to see a market for this and create an app in the HTC hub, or it would be handy if mastercard or visa would make an app for everyone to use. I saw a visa advert the other day that was suggesting it could be used on samsung phones but I have seen no further explanations.

I'm hopeful that with the Olympics this year we will see a proper push for NFC payment to become widely available; there's the beginning of an infrastructure in place and numerous trials are underway or completing (O2, Barclaycard & Orange, etc).
Personally I'm hoping that Barclays move their Pingit app towards an NFC facility.
As far as what's available today in the UK, only the mini 'stick on' NFC credit card from Barclaycard - sucks really.
Yeah I would happily move banks to Barclays if I could use the ping it app with NFC, there was loads of articles around Christmas time saying google wallet was coming to the UK for the Olympics but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Just before getting my Nexus 7, my wife and I finally paid off all our credit cards and got rid of them all. I expected that if I wanted to purchase something from the Play Store, I could simply use a prepaid Visa/Mastercard (I don't purchase many apps, so I can deal with silly fees on these things).
Anyway, I've had various friends tell me that they've never been able to get these to work on the store. So, I'm asking you....do you know of any prepaid cards that will work on the Play Store in Canada?
Thanks.
Not sure about the "Gift" type of prepaid cards work, but I have a Visa Titanium (pre-paid, reloadable) from MoneyMart that I use for online shopping and I can confirm that it works with the Play Store.

Thanks, I'll look into that.
I use Mastercard Vanilla cards (prepaid) and then just register them to the USA.
Believe it or not, 90210 counts as a valid zip code! (like the show haha)
Anyways, register it on the Mastercard Site, (just Google Mastercard vanilla) and then go to the play store, add funds and enter the card number.
Works for me like a charm, hopefully works for you!

Welp, decided to answer my own question.
I picked up a $25.00 Visa Gift Card from my local grocery store, and it works perfectly.
All that's needed is to register the card with your name and address on the issuer's site. Google then allowed the card to be added in Wallet easily.
The one I purchased had a $3.95 upfront fee and no other fees after that. So, that's fair enough in my book.
I have Google Wallet all setup on my N5 with my American Express card. It works fine for all GW transactions except Tap and Pay (NFC). I get a message that the transaction has been declined by card issuer. When I swipe the card at the same terminal it goes through no problem.
I contacted American Express to find out why the charges are declined. Amex initially said they see no declined transactions on their end. After further investigation with Amex tech support I was told the Amex does not support GW Tap and Pay so the NFC transactions never even gets to them. He suggested I try ISIS Mobile Wallet which they fully support.
When I try to install ISIS from the Play store there are 3 options. ATT, Verizon and T-Mobile. I am on Straight Talk using an AT&T SIM so I tried that one. When try to install it's grayed out with "No eligible devices for app install". I also tried the other two options with the same result.
So I started looking for the ISIS apk to manually load the app and found post about needing a special SIM and carrier restrictions. Also saw that it does not work on rooted phones.
My questions are:
1. Has anyone been able to an Amex card to work with Google Wallet Tap and Pay (NFC)?
2. Is there any way to get ISIS loaded and working onto a stock rooted Nexus 5 using a Straight Talk plan?

You could still match them up to your phone. Google Wallet keeps track of everything just as it'd appear on your credit card statement. Your individual transactions would just appear on your phone, and not your paper statement. I only have my visa card on google wallet since that's my main card, but when I go to costco or buy gas, I use my american express card and swipe it instead of tapping.

I use my official Amex Corporate statement for expense reimbursement. Otherwise I need to keep individual receipts. I'd rather just swipe the card then go through all that.
Quick question, u are using Google wallet as a credit transaction right? It will not work as a debit. I did this at first till I actually read Google wallets instructions.
And can u use american express as payment through Google play store? If so then theoretically it'll work with wallet. Sorry u mentioned that u could.
On my visa card it shows Google Merchant not McDonald's. Doubt this will work in ur case for expenses reimbursement without individual receipts.

My Amex used to work with GW tap and pay, but I switched over to another primary card and it's probably been more than 6 months since I've used it. If I have the opportunity, I'll test it. Given their involvement with ISIS though, it wouldn't surprise me if GW was no longer supported.

Hey All!
Not sure if I am posting it in the right place. But I have S8+ from t-mobile. Now I go back and forth between US and Canada. SAMSUNG pay has accepted my Bank of America Card. However when I try to add my Canadian bank (yes this bank is comparable to Samsung pay). It does not accept it.
Anyway I can have my Canadian debit card on it? Is there way to add the Canadian Samsung pay app on secure folder and use it from there?
Thank you
Only certain cards from CIBC are accepted for Samsung Pay. No bank is currently compatible with Samsung Pay in Canada, including CIBC. Again, only a handful of cards that CIBC offers are compatible.
Debit cards are not compatible. Only certain CIBC Visa cards will work with Samsung Pay.

Screw Samsung pay. RBC wallet works great and so far everywhere I tried it works.
Well I have been using Samsung pay in the US with bank of America debit card in it and it is pretty impressive. Unlike Canada a lot of place here don't support NFC to pay. So I use Samsung pay and it's MST technology has worked without fail every single time.
It's funny because every time I pull my phone out I get a weird look followed by "Yeah you cannot pay with your phone here". At which point I always say "I'd like to give it a try" and it works.
It is always followed by Shock, and people saying "how did it work, we don't support mobile payment method".
I have had it work so well that when I am back in Canada would like to use it with my CIBC debit card. But looks like for now I have to stick to swiping my card like it's the stone age. Jk

That's crazy which card is it that's compatible with Samsung Pay from CIBC?
Aventura credit card from CIBC works.
Scotia wallet, works also good, but again, each bank is providing its own solution...
I wish i could use the bank wallet or Samsung Pay...
I'd like Sam pay for when tap isn't available for RBC wallet
Update: There was some debate about MST being disabled since it wasn't implemented in the UK. I just used it at a Circle K with an ancient swipe terminal and it worked fine.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So as we know Samsung Pay finally launched in the UK. Today I got my new BTU (UK) phone to replace the one with a pink screen. On the pink screen phone I had previously installed the U.S. Samsung Pay and Samsung Pay Framework apps I backed-up from my AT&T S8+. I never got past the start screen because I'm assuming S Pay detected I was using a UK phone with a U.S. account. When the UK version of S Pay was released Samsung Apps offered me an update but the install failed because the UK Pay app was incompatible with the U.S. Pay framework. The framework app gives itself administrator privileges that aren't user accessible so it can never be uninstalled so I couldn't get the UK framework which the UK S Pay app requires. So no love.
On the new non-pink phone I installed the UK S Pay and framework apps. When initializing the phone I intentionally didn't login to my Samsung Account figuring it would bias my phone to the U.S. At the S Pay welcome screen I entered my U.S. Samsung Account credentials. It initialized fine albeit with the S Pay interface tailored to the UK. In the "add card" section it asks what country the card being added is from and I obviously entered the United States. The rest of the add card process was normal and I validated the addition of the cards with my bank. Here's the result.
For whatever reason Samsung didn't implement MST in the UK, only NFC. I'm betting that carries over no matter wherever a UK phone is used. I'll try it tomorrow on a MST terminal to see if that's true. I'll also try it on a NFC terminal to make sure it works but I can't see why it wouldn't. The UK S Pay app has UK membership cards (EG: Tesco) pre-loaded but you can add your own cards manually. It has "deals" but that's obviously useless in the U.S. There are no "rewards."
I have a Gear S3 which works with MST and gives me access to rewards so I'm OK with my phone being NFC only if that turns out to be the case. Someone less lazy then me can try and use the U.S. S Pay app with the UK S Pay framework to see if they're compatible. I'm guessing they aren't. Someone with a UK phone may want to try the U.S. app and framework apps on a virgin (never tried to use S Pay of any origin) now that S Pay's been released to see if anything's changed. I'm guessing not.
Oh well, some Samsung Pay is better than none and I can use my phone for the tube the next time I'm in the UK. Only S Pay supported MST anyway so it's not like a NFC-only version isn't competitive with everything else out there.
So I have the same BTU model here in the USA you. When they released Samsung pay I just went ahead and installed it from the Galaxy apps store. It installed find and I could add my Chase card to it.
When I tried to use it in a place that does not accept NFC payments, it failed. The register gave an error "error reading card number". The owner of the place said it never worked for anyone else either so I'm not sure if it's the missing MST component or the card reader at the store. I have not tried to use S Pay anywhere else but i'll probably give it another try in another place and report back.
“For the UK launch, we’re going to focus on NFC and then we’ll look for opportunities to bring MST later on,” Kyle Brown, Samsung’s head of technology, content and launch management for the UK and Ireland, told The Independent.
“The UK market is very much trending towards NFC, which is why we’re focusing on that for Samsung Pay. Right now, we’re looking at whether we can use MST for loyalty cards or something like that in the future.”
It's disabled in the app not on the phone. I haven't rebuilt my non-pink phone yet so I tried replacing the UK framework and app with the U.S. versions to see if once S Pay was on the phone if they'd work. Same problems I had with my pink phone - Samsung Pay (U.S.) launches but hangs on the start screen. So it looks like NFC or nothing for BTU phones.
MST works in the U.S. Since you have to specify a country when initially registering cards in the S Pay app maybe MST being enabled or disabled is determined by the credit cards origin vs. what country the phone or S Pay app belongs to.
Yep. It was an ancient pre-chip magnetic terminal. I have a Gear S3 with S Pay and the charge I made on my phone counted toward my status in Samsung Rewards. S Pay is so funky though. When I loaded the S Pay app and framework I copied from my AT&T S8 on to my BTU phone it never let me get past the splash screen. But I got an e-mail from S Pay saying I added a SM-G955 to my S Pay account even though I couldn't access the U.S. app on my UK phone.
My S Pay info on my UK phone shows my U.S. account and original registration date. There's something funky going on in the background we're not privy to in the way Samsung Pay's implemented regionally. Maybe the UK S Pay app takes in to account how many UK users travel to the U.S. or live in both places and they've made allowances for that. In all my research on using S Pay in the U.S. on a non-U.S. phone it never worked as simply as it does with UK phones. The only thing we're missing is Deals and Rewards but payment and loyalty cards work the same as on the U.S. version.
You mention your gear S3. Did you pay with the phone or the watch?
The watch has always worked for me when it was connect to my UK 8+.
When I tried to pay with the phone by holding it to the terminal it errored out for some reason.
If you did pay with your phone, is your phone 100% stock (BTU)? You mentioned loading the at&t framework so it's not very clear. I have not done that. My phone is 100% stock with Samsung pay installed from the Samsung Galaxy apps store.
Seriously? My phone. The only reason I mentioned the watch is because the Gear S Pay app offers rewards and counts the number of payments you make to reach tier status. The MST transaction I made on my phone showed up as purchase in the Gear S Pay app's transaction counter which means they are both operating off of the same U.S. S Pay account. If my UK phone had a separate S Pay account purchases wouldn't be recognized in my U.S. S Pay rewards program. And there is no UK rewards program. So S Pay on my phone is behaving as if it was the U.S. version (minus U.S. deals and rewards being visible).
This is the Gear S Pay app. I had 14 purchases this morning before using my phone's S Pay app at Circle K. So there's no question both my phone and Gear are using the same U.S. S Pay account. And there's no relationship between the Gear and phone S Pay apps. Cards are added and maintained completely independently as are individual transactions.
Keep in mind some stores block MST at the terminal. Walmart's an example. If a credit card has a chip in it you can't use it magnetically via MST. The same applies if the chipped card is physically swiped - it kicks back an error. There must be some type of flag in the magnetic encoding (which S Pay emulates) of chipped cards that alerts the terminal a chip is present. I can use my chipped credit card via MST at Costco's chip-enabled terminals so it's definitely a merchant rules thing. I can also use my non-chipped debit card at Walmart via MST which I'll be trying with my phone this afternoon.
Update: Used MST again at a Winn Dixie with a chip reading terminal.
thanks for the info, I was waiting forever and was pissed to hear no MST support although UK and US still need it. I will try it at Kroger or some gas station tomorrow
update: I tried it at a store I am 95% certain doesn't have NFC readers and it read like a card asking for pin code, super quick and felt powerful, I just hate that certain retailers reject it ugh
Could you please let me know what SPAY and Framwark apks are you using?
I got my S8 Exynos from EBAY, Samsung pay didn't work because I had the AFG CSC, so I reset the phone with a UK sim in it and that changed the CSC to XEU (UK).
Now when I open Spay it keeps saying look for the NFC tag on the device at point of purchase.. no MST... I didn't try it here in the US yet.
I have the Dual Sim phone with AT&T and a UK sims inside.
when I tried to install the US apk from the APKMIRROR I couldn't go past the first screen when I open the app.
Any suggestions how to get it work on my phone.
Thank you for your time and help
Best,
Joe
