There is no "best" deal, but a popular one I know of and use is with T-Mobile, a non-contract $30 a month plan with unlimited data(first 5gb at 4g speed) unlimited texting and 100 talking minutes. I rooted my phone and can now tether without the fee and I use an app to make free phone calls. 5gb of data is a lot for phone usage, even if you tether it should last you a month. If you're looking for a home internet service though you should still order wifi because 4g speed isn't great on laptops.
i have sprint.. been with them almost 4 years.. i love them.. well service sucked for a while but now i get great 4g lte in my state so im happy.. i get unlimited talk.. text.. data.. and use wifi tether all the time with no issues.. i would hate to have a limit on data..

Hi all I'm currently on Sprint with an Epic 4G phone and considering switching to T-Mobile with the LG g2x
In your experience what does tmobile throttle you down to?
Is the higher 5GB option plan still available?
Thanks!

After you hit 5GB they will throttle the speed down to dial up speed.
If you get the 2GB plan then youll get throttled to dial up sped after you hit 2GB.

Will T-mo not sell you additional bandwidth when you hit your unlimit? I was just trying to figure this out on their website, but to no avail.
Sent from my LG-P999
What was the throttled speed that you got?
In other words you were getting 4g/3g speeds (don.t really know what the speed in MB/sec)
After throttling you now get how many MB/sec?
I just switched from a grandfathered t-zones plan to the android $10/month 200MB cap then throttle down "unlimited" plan. I just want to know how slow my internet speed will be after I hit the 200MB mark and if I will be able to use S*l*i*n*g* M*o*b*i*l*e or not. I used it for a minute and saw that I used 8 MB according the the usage chart on the TMo website. That's about 25 minutes at 4g speeds until I hit my 200 MB cap!!
After throttling you'll be on EDGE / 2G which is anywhere from 5KB/sec to 100KB/sec in my experience.
Ugh. Thats terrible.

I'd be all in favor of this under the following stipulations:
1. You don't go from full speed to EDGE in one shot. 25% increments or something.
2. You are given fair and ample warning at all stages and before each tier drop
3. They bring back the $30 unlimited plan
Well I'm in the 30 dollar unlimited plan.and I say no. I payed for it, and I should have it all not some of it.

I think this is just AT&T wanting you to change data plans so they don't have to have unlimited stuff anymore. Just another way to gouge us with fees.
Yeah well at that rate I prolly will have to.I can't stand any slower speeds than I have now, and then they wanna make it slower...well good job att.guess you win again.I know that 30 unlimited is prolly overpriced...but then you say " hey I got unlimited so its worth it" not the case anymore.

This month is gonna be close (6 more days and at 1800MB). After that I'll loophole myself into unlimited and stop caring.

I think they are doing this so we don't rape their LTE network when it's launched. Regardless it's still lame on att's part. It would also be nice if they at least gave us a ballpark of what the top 5 percent are consuming.

Lol, I use a Thunderbolt, and my GF has a Triumph. Even when comparing 3G to 3G, My Thunderbolt is twice as fast as her Triumph. 4G on my T-bolt makes her Triumph feel like its running on 1x. I can't imagine how bad "throttling" VM 3G service would be.

Sry if this topic was covered already-but I'm wondering if it's a bad idea to use my Xbox on a free hotspot. I've read foxfi is great..but I also learned that downloading a power control widget with the hotspot toggle included that it provides the stock hotspot for free. It worked indeed..though unclear if this is using verizons paid hotspot...didn't warn of any charges or anything. My laptop connected to the stock hotspot though couldn't get internet(tho it's switching between 4g and 3g).

Well if they find out you will get charged but as of now no one is sure whether they can tell or not and no one has come forward saying they got charged. Its a risk you have to take by yourself because no one can give a definitive answer.
If you use the hotspot, you'll be charged for it...warning in advance.they can monitor it.

So if I use Xbox via firefi they still be able to tell? I've read in many other post where they consume an absurd amount of data through such tethering...hmm.
So if they see I'm using firefi, how much would they charge me? I have unlimited data. Thanks for info.

You think with the technology now, they can't monitor our phones, if they wanted to, they can. but it's true you can teather with out a plan but I warn you, be careful, me .I have unlimited data and unlimited hotspot.did you know if you have unlimited data your eligible for the unlimited hotspot which is $30 bucks.(4g phone's only)

Hm interesting. So the worst that could happen if Verizon notices I am using a free hotspot is charge me $30? That's not to bad for having unlimited data but mine as well go free first ey? They wouldn't try to teach me a lesson and charge a larger amount or take away my unlimited would they?

I tether to my xbox all the time using foxfi, it says about 13MB of data were used while using it for a fairly long time. It only needs to download vector positions of people and such for Call Of Duty I would think, so not too data intensive at all. I dunno about other games.
thanks for the feedback guys..Will connect my Xbox via foxfi later tonight. So stoked to play some cod after two long months without it lol just hope the data will keep up with the game. Cheers.

I could have sworn, just like vz nav, vzw only charges for the hotspot for the use of its app.
Use vz nav, spend 9.99 a month, or, use google nav for free.
Use vzw hotspot, 30.00 a month or, use foxfi for free.
I've never seen vzw advertise the accrued data usage as the fee for the hotspot- only the use of the app.

On the Droid X running gb, there were three system files that had something to do with data service provider. It was determined that these apks could monitor tethering. They were easily removed. Not sure about today, but it used to be that when tethering, if you weren't redirected to vzw's Page showing pricing for tethering then you were okay. I did notice that the built in hotspot app now requires a subscription to even turn it on.

It's not actually unlimited.
I used to be on GG myself and everything was going great. Then I started getting my internet cut off because I was using too much internet. How can one use too much of unlimited? I literally ended up getting cut of twice in one week for using too much and all I was doing was streaming through Netflix.
Here's a screenshot of the message I sent to one of their agents about the situation.

Look at OP. He just asked about our carrier and hasn't posted since. He never wanted to discuss about our carriers either, he simply wanted to know WHAT carrier we were on. The replies started the conversation on what carriers were good.
Since I posted second, all I knew about this thread was that some weirdo with barely any posts just wanted to know what carrier other people were using. He never posted his carrier either, usually you would at least say "to start, I am on AT&T" or other carrier.
