Wow what will they do next?
Edit: UPDATE (another page found)
http://myona.com/2011/08/01/att-will-throttle-your-unlimited-data-plan/
by the looks of my data usage im guessing that i will be one of the few that gets throttled
anyone else?
I'd be all in favor of this under the following stipulations:
1. You don't go from full speed to EDGE in one shot. 25% increments or something.
2. You are given fair and ample warning at all stages and before each tier drop
3. They bring back the $30 unlimited plan
Well I'm in the 30 dollar unlimited plan.and I say no. I payed for it, and I should have it all not some of it.

Wow! You sure have changed your mind on data, power users, and unlimited. Haha welcome to the dark side.
-Figured i needed a signature for my phone. This is it......
I think this is just AT&T wanting you to change data plans so they don't have to have unlimited stuff anymore. Just another way to gouge us with fees.
Yeah well at that rate I prolly will have to.I can't stand any slower speeds than I have now, and then they wanna make it slower...well good job att.guess you win again.I know that 30 unlimited is prolly overpriced...but then you say " hey I got unlimited so its worth it" not the case anymore.

This month is gonna be close (6 more days and at 1800MB). After that I'll loophole myself into unlimited and stop caring.
Where do you get those charts from?
Hell Yeah I love having my bandwidth throttled, yes!
I wouldn't mind a throttle if it was getting throttled faster.

I think they are doing this so we don't rape their LTE network when it's launched. Regardless it's still lame on att's part. It would also be nice if they at least gave us a ballpark of what the top 5 percent are consuming.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
Ooops!
I think I read the ballpark is anything over an average of 5 gb

Used 5.7gb the first month I had unlimited, with 5 days left in this billing cycle, I'm up to 7.5gb! Netflixin a movie right now!
Is att unlimited or "unlimited"? My first att phone was an iPhone 2nd Gen. I got grandfathered into the unlimited plan when I got my captivate.
I was not worried about it before but now I have Netflix on the go. Its starting to guzzle bandwidth.

I don't think people really understand how big of a deal this is...
For someone that only has a 2 gb its prolly not, but to the people that pay good money. And have payed good money for a long time for unlimited, it just makes me mad at att.
I understand the whole thing. Just curious is this in the new contract that we signed.

It's just TMo, it is unlimited, just slow. But when it does come, we will find a work around just like the guys on TMo have done. I'm not too worried.

I posted once before asking why the inspire used so much data. Lots of people claimed it didn't and something must be wrong. Well the prior month the phone used 12GB of data. I just finished my month with a whopping 13GB of data and just 1 day into my new month, i'm already at 1.7GB used. I haven't touched the phone but maybe once to look up a restaurant's number. There has to be a glitch somewhere. AT&T again said "Don't worry, you have unlimited data. You have nothing to worry about". I'll post my data usage picture soon.
God damn! Lucky you have unlimited. Try and use advance task killer pro and have it so it closes everything when you close your screen. Works for me

is it stock rom?
only reason mine goes so high is from streaming netflix in HD to my tv lol
I recently started using roms but the 12gb last month was pure stock rom usage. It's insane. Just basic apps, no pandora, no netflix, etc. I'm lost lol.
you sell your soul to Google with Android
Do you have like 5000 friends on Facebook syncing or something?
Lol, nope. Maybe 125 friends and I rarely check it. I'm telling you, this is so weird. I'm already at 1.7gb from 1 1/2 days of usage. It's crazy.
Just be glad your not on t-mobile

I've used .01 mb, 10 days into my billing cycle.

You can stream netflix if you tether so it was not an odd thing to include.
[email protected], try 3g watchdog. I have seen people mention that they use that to track what apps are chewing through data.
You will need a HDTV thoe huh

Something's horribly wrong or you have something running in the background. I don't enable WiFi for anything and I download kernels/roms/things from this forum all the time over cellular and my data usage is around 500 - 800mb a month.

I chew through my 3GB a month here in Australia every month, but that's because I constantly tether when my home internet connection is capped. Therefore I download heavily when tethering (Mainly from XDA). But **** 13 GB? I'd be charged like 1000$ bill in excessive usage, I kid you not.
EDIT: Plus I make skype voice calls over 3G.
turn off your data in the phone or use wifi.
Mine is pretty damn high as well. BUT I have a grandfathered in unlimited data plan and well, honestly, I'm going to use it & not worry.

Is the higher 5GB option plan still available?
Thanks!

After you hit 5GB they will throttle the speed down to dial up speed.
If you get the 2GB plan then youll get throttled to dial up sped after you hit 2GB.

Will T-mo not sell you additional bandwidth when you hit your unlimit? I was just trying to figure this out on their website, but to no avail.
Sent from my LG-P999
What was the throttled speed that you got?
In other words you were getting 4g/3g speeds (don.t really know what the speed in MB/sec)
After throttling you now get how many MB/sec?
I just switched from a grandfathered t-zones plan to the android $10/month 200MB cap then throttle down "unlimited" plan. I just want to know how slow my internet speed will be after I hit the 200MB mark and if I will be able to use S*l*i*n*g* M*o*b*i*l*e or not. I used it for a minute and saw that I used 8 MB according the the usage chart on the TMo website. That's about 25 minutes at 4g speeds until I hit my 200 MB cap!!
After throttling you'll be on EDGE / 2G which is anywhere from 5KB/sec to 100KB/sec in my experience.
Ugh. Thats terrible.

Essentially you get EDGE speed which is like 20kbs
I am in roaming n didn't opt for the 3g plan, technically leaving me on edge all through.
Attaching below, I want to show how awesome the battery life is on edge. Hopefully this will give more reasons for our devs to work on enabling 2g/3g toggle in roms.
2.5 days standby with ~1 hour display n ~40 mins calls, battery is at 51%.
Standby drain is at 1% per ~3 hours. Compare this to 1% per hour when on 3g/h in US.

definitely impressive - i can't say it's surprising... you never use the thing! 1 hour of display time and less than 1 hour of call time in ~2.5 days - it probably feels neglected. i would keep a leash on it so it doesn't try to run away.

The point here was abt the standby drain in edge, esp for users in travel like me who don't use data 24/7 n use only in intervals. Plus this is with frequent times in areas with low signal.
More importantly, an hour of calls now takes abt 6-7% battery, compared to 10-12% when on H.

Just curious, what do you mean you didn't get the '3G' plan? I wasn't aware there was such a plan and either way, AT&T doesn't allow the toggling of WCDMA/Edge manually, even with root access on current US based builds or with the star codes
Even though you're in a roaming zone, it's still scanning WCDMA bands unless you did something

Nice one U see, I am in India now on vacation. I can opt for 3G at a slightly higher cost, or stick to edge. Since its only mails n xda stuff mainly, I decided not to take the 3g plans.
By the way, I am on prepaid n paying $1 and 20 cents for a 1 GB plan with 15 days validity. 2GB plan with 30 days validity is abt $2 and 20 cents. Saying this just for sake of cost comparision. I think 3g plans for the same are about $1 more than those on edge.

It's not actually unlimited.
I used to be on GG myself and everything was going great. Then I started getting my internet cut off because I was using too much internet. How can one use too much of unlimited? I literally ended up getting cut of twice in one week for using too much and all I was doing was streaming through Netflix.
Here's a screenshot of the message I sent to one of their agents about the situation.

Look at OP. He just asked about our carrier and hasn't posted since. He never wanted to discuss about our carriers either, he simply wanted to know WHAT carrier we were on. The replies started the conversation on what carriers were good.
Since I posted second, all I knew about this thread was that some weirdo with barely any posts just wanted to know what carrier other people were using. He never posted his carrier either, usually you would at least say "to start, I am on AT&T" or other carrier.

There is no "best" deal, but a popular one I know of and use is with T-Mobile, a non-contract $30 a month plan with unlimited data(first 5gb at 4g speed) unlimited texting and 100 talking minutes. I rooted my phone and can now tether without the fee and I use an app to make free phone calls. 5gb of data is a lot for phone usage, even if you tether it should last you a month. If you're looking for a home internet service though you should still order wifi because 4g speed isn't great on laptops.
