[Q] Custom signal icon wont return to stock. - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running CandyKat ROM and I was playing around with the "Sweetener packs". I changed my signal icon but I don't like how it overlaps with the wifi icon, so I booted back into recovery and reset all of the customizations to stock.
Everything returned back to normal except the signal icon.
What can I do?

I just spent hours setting it up, is there no way to get it to revert?
I mean, it SAYS it flashes the stock signal icon, but it never seems to stick.

Forget stickies, learn everything through just trying it for yourself and lots of restoring backups.
(wasn't really responding to you, just in general when users tell others to read stickies, they won't. Just tell them to try it)...yes I know I told him the answer. I was bored.

Read stickies if you're asking simple questions that you don't understand
Trying some things without understanding can lead to pain and suffering

Thats the point. Learn from mistakes. And that teaches to always make a backup. The sad thing is that most people would probably RMA for that and not learn anything.

can you get in to cwm recovery, if yes, then it depends where you put your rom, internal or external sdcard, copy the rom to both

I'd say the easiest route(if you can get it into download) might be to find a friend with a windows computer that you can borrow for a few minutes to load up odin and drop the stock rom back on it.

[How to] Unbrick MF3 Custom Recovery Fail

I figured that I might post this to help some people as I see this posted a lot.
Are you one of the ones that tried to install a custom recovery on the MF3 update? Are you facing a never ending boot sequence or device just freezing at boot screen?
Try this to help you get a normal boot so your phone is at least usable. (Note that your factory recovery will no longer work!)
First off, do a battery pull.
After you put the battery back in (make sure it's not plugged up) go into download mode.
Click Cancel instead of continuing into download mode. Chances are your device will boot up normal. I've tried this with a device I own and also tried it on a few others (through PM and chat online).
If this works for you please let me know!
Lol I figured this out in 2 mins of owning the phone.

Anyways, it was first discovered here, as far as I can tell:

And there's an alternative method too, if that didn't work:

Guys I'd appreciate it if you didn't spam up this topic with nonsense.
The phone is not bricked for one.
It was never publicly announced what to do one these forums that I could find.
Edit: I just read your posted topics and neither one says to do this
The questions are asked every day by people.
This post has potential to stop some messages.

For the guys post above me thanks for adding more ways to help try to do a workaround even though you tried to undermine me here.

If you're stuck in download mode and cannot get to your OS, I think that counts as a brick! Yes, btw, post 11 in the first thread I linked shows the solution which I have been telling others to do...which you did us the favor of making a post about as well. I agree that it's good to make this post, though I think your thread title could be more useful if you edited it.
Also, should this method not work for some people, an alternative method is a good thing to have.
Thanks again and have a nice day! :good:

I think my suggestion in post #8 is still a good one.
Your current thread title makes it sound like you tried to flash a custom recovery on MF3 and it didn't work. There's no way anyone would read that title and think there's a "How To" guide in it.
Alright maybe that will work.

Lol I found this thread after I figured it out for myself. I was kind of hoping this would lead me into a way to get back my recovery.
This is how I fixed my brick.
Flashed this file in ODIN. Now my phone boots normally. Got it from another thread with a diff issue here on XDA. I tried it and it worked. Wish I could remember where and what the thread was called. I believe it was this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2360859

[Q] Chainfire 3D Bricked My Nexus 5?

I installed Chainfire 3D (i missed the part about the "for 1 ghz devices only"), my phone attempted a reboot and would not boot back up. it is stuck in the "Google (w/ lock)" screen (just before the animation boot). I went into Recovery and tried cache wipe to no avail, I also tried Factory Reset, still the same. I had done a Factory Reset once before for another reason and it took very much longer that time, as this Reset seemed to go too quickly. I did a Factory Reset again, and it was just a quick. The phone is still stuck in that boot up. The Nexus 5 is rooted but using factory image. Do I have to go download the factory image and flash it?
First you should change the thread title to: "I bricked my Nexus." Don't blame something else because you didn't read.
If you can access the bootloader flash the factory image with fastboot.
Wipe system and flash a new room

Not good enough.... it's not a problem with Chainfire 3D at all and to cast any doubts on that because you didn't read is not at all fair to Chainfire!
You will have to flash the factory image and start over to recover your device.
Don't use an autoroot deal either do it the way the nice guy posted in the general forum sticky.

I think his revised thread title is fine. Mentioning Chainfire simply makes the issue clearer in the title. It doesn't blame Chainfire at all. He's looking for a solution to a specific problem and the new title would make it clear and waste less time. IF he changes it. And I agree he should.
Jeez... A little harsh, folks. How about helping him instead of taking down to him?

Of course it is a joke. The idea is that people shouldn't assume that their devices are bricked
just because they installed the wrong app without trying logical solutions first. It will just generate helpless posts like most of us are doing now. If Rom damaged, flash a new one.
If it was my fault for not reading, I shouldn't point someone else. If ART wont stick after Xposed...... If Im thirsty, why to call the doctor claiming low production of saliva
I'm not crucifying the OP, I'm glad he fixed it.
But we need to do something let members know know what BRICKED is intended for and
what to do and not do in order to get better help.

why do you need an SDK, are you building an app? what you need to do is just flash the factory IMG via fastboot https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

A little confused, it says it won't see my device at first in the list of devices, then says here is what we do, but doesn't actually tell me what to do

That's not what it says at all. Its 2 screenshots. 1 showing what you don't want to see and 1 showing what you do want to see. It at no point says "here is what we do" as an instruction. Please try to read whole sentences rather than half sentences

Negative. USB debugging is nothing at all to
do with what you're trying to do. This again is all mentioned in the thread that you're not doing a very good job of reading!
I'm losing patience. All the info is in my thread. Read it / don't read it. Whatever. Good luck

Please can you provide the full error and screenshot?
You don't need to run the flash all really.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
All that's required really
