Hey, I have a couple of quick questions. About 4 months ago I came over to Android from several years on iOS (all Jailbroken & heavily modded devices). I was up for contract renewal with AT&T, and I am still grandfathered in on the old Unlimited Data plan. At the time all I knew about Android, is that I liked how much better it had gotten with Jellybean and that I thought I wanted to give Android a try. At the time I was under the impression that Android was much more open & customizable, and easier to work with. AT&T changed that experience for me. I ended up going with a red Samsung Galaxy S4 because I like the hardware, thinking that if I didn't like the Samsung interface, I could just flash Vanilla Android from Google.......as everybody knows now, not the case. I really like Android and prefer the Vanilla experience to Samsung's Touchwiz interface. their Knox security (and Knox 2.0 coming soon), and the fact that it is not optional has left a very bad taste in my mouth, in addition to the locked bootloader on the GS4. I have also been playing around with Android Studio and am looking at getting into some Android development. So for me, it's time to jump ship and move to the much more user-friendly (mod friendly) Nexus 5.
So for anybody who has come over to the Nexus 5 from another phone, what issues did you run into switching over?
From what I've read, both use a micro sim, so I should be able to just put my sim in the Nexus 5 and go, right?
I currently have root on the GS4 and backup all my stuff to Google drive with Titanium Backup. Theoretically, I should be able to install Titanium backup on the Nexus and restore my apps & app data, correct?
Anything else I should be aware of? I need to make as smooth of a transition as possible. GS4 is then getting restored to factory and is getting sold to pay for a good chunk of the Nexus 5.
I also plan to go with the 32 GB Nexus 5 since there is no SD card slot. Advice on this decision? Thanks for any information and suggestions. I look forward to soon becoming a Nexus 5 owner and member of this forum community.

Get the 32. Be careful not to restore system data. Insert sim and go.

Received the Sony 16gb Micro Flash Drive today and yes when i just plug it in i get no mount options of course.
However when in TWRP it allows me to mount "USB OTG" to do what i bought the drive for witch is Backups.
Edit: tested above USB flash drive with "StickMount Pro" and works great.

That looks cool. Nexus 5 came in this last Friday, and my Spigen SlimArmor case & Nilkin Tempered glass protector came Monday. Over the weekend I was able to get the bootloader unlocked and got the phone rooted. So much easier on the Nexus. Can't get much easier than:
"adb bootloader unlock"
I got my S4 back to stock and getting ready to list it on Swappa.
I had one other question regarding the IMEI. You mention calling AT&T to update the IMEI, but I've done some reading and it's my understanding that once you make some calls from the new device after moving your SIM over to it, the IMEI is automatically updated in AT&T's system within 48 hrs. Can anyone here confirm this? Anything else I need to do? Everything is working great on the Nexus 5.
Thanks. I already love this phone!

Can not confirm the auto IMEI switch for you but if there is truth to what you mention than i would call to have it switched sooner than the 48 hour auto period .
Bad ass phone isn't it?

You don't have to switch anything over. I have a note 2 and nexus 5 and switch the Sim out all the time to use either phone. I never called for anything.

Hey all just to be clear first off this is not a discussing to bash me or my wife for her wanting to go to an iphone. She has decided it I have a trade set up with someone for a 32gig s4 and its done so please no bashing me or her lol!!!
Anyway! Her phone has synergy 1.3/lmo kernel 12-2. We are meeting the person at a verizon store so we can swap and activate the phones in confidence. I want to return hers to stock. I have the stock bloated zip downloaded and will do it via odin. My question is should I worry about the flash counter taking it to the verizon store to do this swap? They can't deny me a swap for it being flashed can they? Just reload stock ics and go with it?
They can't see the flash counter. Unless they go into download mode to look for itm . It won't b a problem The swap take two minutes . Youre all good!

Anyway, you can also look up the free triangle away on XDA. It costs 2 bucks on Play Store, but XDA members can get it for nothing. That will erase the flash counter to zero.

this is true also...
the people in verizon just want to get a sim into the phone to get you out of there.
if you arent buying something they just want you out so the can get back to selling
Yep not gonna worry about it. On another note I just tried going back to stock on her phone via odin. Downloaded one of the stock fully bloated ics roms...followed the directions and the odin never said pass/reset. It just sat there after it took 2mins 37 secs. I battery pulled unplugged and rebooted to recovery and it rebooted to cwm recovery. I reboot phone from there and it booted back to synergy and the kernel. any suggestions? Just try again? I dont want to brick this damn thing trying to trade it tomorrow lol
I'm sorry but I'm not biting my tongue. That is a horrible trade....you're giving up the latest technology for a phone that's almost a year old and only has 3G speeds. What your wife should do is throw the S3 up for sale on ebay for $500 now, use another phone for a few months and then buy the iphone 5 when it comes out in November.

Yeah, it didn't upload the ROM to the phone correctly. Make sure you're using 3.07 Odin also to flash the full .tar file and you're putting in the PDA slot in Odin.

Its really none of your business.
Try switching usb ports also, my front ones are kind of flaky with odin, as are my rear usb3 ones...the back usb2 however works fantastic and has never given me a problem. Just remember some people it takes 1 minute flat, and others it takes 10 minutes.
I finally got it thanks guys
I've been using Odin 1.85. The 3 version has been fishy for me. Also. If you have root 66 or something just use it. An apple person isn't going to check or know anything about 1 icon that says superuser. Also restart your computer. It helps sometimes

Being nice here, but has she used the smaller screen on the iphone extensively?
After setting my wife is with an HTC inspire she thought she wanted an iphone 4s too until she used one in store and decided the screen is too small.
Point is, she's making a huge downgrade. Maybe have her use it for 10 minutes in store before the person getting the s3 makes off like a bandit

If his wife wants a iphone, then so be it...Im pretty sure the op understands quite well its a downgrade, but remember we talking about the wife here. Sometimes you have a better chance to get struck by lightning than convincing them of anything!
To each their own. I showed my wife the iPhone (coming from a dinc) and the Nexus and she went straight for the Nexus. It's all user preference. No need to bash.

My wife, the iphone fangirl to the bone, hated the Nexus and Razr Maxx and spent less than 5 mins to come up with that conclusion. Then while she's waiting for the iPhone 4S replacement from verizon, she saw the S3 from their store and was won over instantly. We're both using the same phone and while i cried over losing the Note when we switched carrier, this is truly the one that resembles it the closest. To each his/her own but this phone makes iphone lovers drool.

To anyone who doesn't know:
The GS3 doesn't communicate with a Mac out of the box (And it is a royal pain in the a). You need a special program from Google called Android File Transfer.
To the OP: no, there's no fix, at least that I know of, and trust me I've looked... And it sucks. Everyone always suggests these programs from the play store, but they all SUCK!!
Android File Transfer was amazing, when it worked. All we can really hope for is a fix from either Google or Samsung to make it work again.
Samsung has a program called kies, which still sucks but is OK for syncing music...
Personally I've resorted to boot camp. Whenever I need to sync something I just boot up windows on my Mac.

google samsung sg3 easy ums fix, you will be able to mount external sd card easily not internal , it will look like another drive. works with my mid 2011 macbook air with snow mountain lion.
as for the internal portion , your only choice is airdroid. it does every thing, delete , upload , etc... airdroid does nto require active tethering, passive is just fine. I personally use airdroid a lot.
P.s. root required for ums fix ( like every android phone , without root , the phone is as useless as an iphone )
1st off, MAJOR Thanks To all that replied.

Idk if the new nexus is going to have the same storage system as the GS3. I'm not too techy with the internals so not sure how it all works...

It used to work for me. Then I OTA'd and bam.
What rom are you on? The vralg7 (or whatever it was called)(4.0.4?) OTA made Android File Transfer not work with GS3 anymore.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
yeah all these f'ing OTA updates did for me was make my phone black screen of death CRASH all the time requiring battery pull, break Android File Transfer to my Mac, and make my phone run hotter. Which is probably because of that stupid Verizon remote "assistance" crap bloat they put in so they can probably record everything we are doing.
Verizon screws everything up. Wish another carrier had as good of LTE. I am probably going to exchange this for Note II because of these problems. I expect VZ to pay for it or most of it.
Unless Google goes back on their work, the MTP standard will continue. I see it as unlikely for connectivity to Macs to improve for ICS+ phones until Google provides a better tool.

What I've been running into on Apple's Support Forums is that AFT seems to work best only up to 10.6, some have had success with 10.7 and most are reporting absolute failure with Mountain Lion. I'd use AirDroid but my MacPro doesn't have a WiFi antennae, unless it can go through my router somehow as Kies Air does?
Has there been any progress on this?
Hi all,
My daughter's Infuse 4g was having issues (wouldn't turn on, and if it did, wouldn't stay on) while she was at college. She took it to the AT&T store and they told her she needed a new phone. We purchased one, but when she got her Infuse 4g home, I was able to get it working again.
Anyway, now I have an Infuse. We have four kids so from time to time we need a 'backup' phone. This would make a good backup phone. It is completely stock and unrooted.
I'm debating on trying to get CM11 on it. I see there is an unofficial release. However, I know nothing about the history of the Infuse, how easy it is to brick, how easy it is to unbrick etc.
So, should I just leave this phone "as is" or work to get CM 11 on it? I'm currently reading through some of the forum threads, but if there are issues putting roms on this phone, it would be nice to know before I put a lot of time in on it.
Any opinions?
Thanks!!!

Is there any chance that getting the positioning wrong could hose the sim card? I've used this method before in a different phone, but I was always concerned that if it shifted it could mess up the SIM.

It's actually easy to "brick" the Infuse, all you do is break the USB charging port, I have a lot of experience with Galaxy S devices and they all have poor USB port durability especially when it come to water damage, so that's one thing to watch out.
Personally, I recommend using CM9 on the Infuse. CM11 roms to me are still buggy and the performance isn't very good. Beanstalk rom does a pretty good job, but for now there are still slow down issues and poor Webkit performance. So far I get very good stability and performance with CM9.
Here is a guide I wrote on root, flash and restore the Infuse, it's pretty easy: http://forums.androidcentral.com/t-...m-recovery-kitkat-factory-restore-infuse.html
You can sim unlock this device too which is easy also: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081072
I had to fight with UPS today for 2 hours, but I got my Galaxy Note 5. In short, I'm glad I got it. I'm sure, like always, each carrier will have their differences, but this is one SLICK SEXY phone.
Out the box I had 25%, I burned through it just doing app updates and setting up my information on the phone and then I tried the Wireless Charging...Guys, it's good! Like really good! I don't even have the Fast Wireless Charging dock. I have the Samsung Galaxy Mini Wireless Charging Pad and that finished up in just over 2 hours, so that Fast Wireless Charger is going to charge as fast as the end of a Prom date. Don't prejudge the phone over what you heard. Use it.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Guess u don't use much storage, that's why u don't have a problem with it. And of course you're going to notice a decent bump in performance coming from a note 3. I've warned everyone I know to not upgrade to the 5 and either get a note 4, or don't drop their 4 cause of Samsung pulling them.
I had to fight with ups as well. Somehow ups got my address wrong... It was either ups or Sprint. Either way I have it.

i use tons of storage... i carry at least 8TB of hard drives everyday. i just don't install many apps and music is all cloud based now for me. movies are kept on a segate wifi drive, i always have a otg adapter and flash ready, but most of the time i just stream netflix/amazon. the majority of my internal storage on my devices are now roms or flashing related crap.
because of the number of devices i have i find it easier to do it the way i do rather than have redundant info on multiple devices - still happens sometimes and i forget which tablet/phone has a certain movie or song... still can find my damn Fried Chicken from Beatnuts!
i started not using an external sd when i got my s4, just as a test, and it worked out for me. so getting an n6 and n9 wasn't too much trouble as i knew what to expect.
though i do think the removal of the SD slot isn't b/c they studied that most people don't use it, but rather that people are suckers and will toss an extra $100 for 32GB.

Totally agree with this. Iphone suckers have been dealing with this the whole time. I've only have known like 2 iPhone users that would pay all that money for a 128 gb iPhone. Most got the 16 or 32 gb versions and became very limited on what they put on their phone.
just got my order in. not time to play with it yet. damn, i forgot that samsung switched to 16:9 ratio. makes this thing less massive than i thought (huge negative for me). it's the same width as the note 2 but ~3/16 taller.

Sprint can't even get the listing of the processor correct.
Just went to the sprint store to look at it. Here's the sign showing the specs.

In case anyone is wondering, the Verizon Galaxy note 5 is fully functional on Project Fi. I have a V note 5 and a Nexus 5X I swapped sims, and with the edition of an APN change the Note 5 worked perfectly. Even pulling twice the download speeds of the Nexus 5. Strangely enough.

How's the network speed compare to Verizon's 4G?

Can we get a rundown of the changes needed to get going on Fi?
What was the point of starting this thread if you're not going to go into detail about the changes you made to get it to work?? I can't stand people who post this crap but leave out key information. Then multiple people ask what needs to be done and what do ya know - no freaking response. I'm positive you're not the only source for this information, I'm just trying to make a point.
