I had to fight with UPS today for 2 hours, but I got my Galaxy Note 5. In short, I'm glad I got it. I'm sure, like always, each carrier will have their differences, but this is one SLICK SEXY phone.
Out the box I had 25%, I burned through it just doing app updates and setting up my information on the phone and then I tried the Wireless Charging...Guys, it's good! Like really good! I don't even have the Fast Wireless Charging dock. I have the Samsung Galaxy Mini Wireless Charging Pad and that finished up in just over 2 hours, so that Fast Wireless Charger is going to charge as fast as the end of a Prom date. Don't prejudge the phone over what you heard. Use it.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Guess u don't use much storage, that's why u don't have a problem with it. And of course you're going to notice a decent bump in performance coming from a note 3. I've warned everyone I know to not upgrade to the 5 and either get a note 4, or don't drop their 4 cause of Samsung pulling them.
I had to fight with ups as well. Somehow ups got my address wrong... It was either ups or Sprint. Either way I have it.

i use tons of storage... i carry at least 8TB of hard drives everyday. i just don't install many apps and music is all cloud based now for me. movies are kept on a segate wifi drive, i always have a otg adapter and flash ready, but most of the time i just stream netflix/amazon. the majority of my internal storage on my devices are now roms or flashing related crap.
because of the number of devices i have i find it easier to do it the way i do rather than have redundant info on multiple devices - still happens sometimes and i forget which tablet/phone has a certain movie or song... still can find my damn Fried Chicken from Beatnuts!
i started not using an external sd when i got my s4, just as a test, and it worked out for me. so getting an n6 and n9 wasn't too much trouble as i knew what to expect.
though i do think the removal of the SD slot isn't b/c they studied that most people don't use it, but rather that people are suckers and will toss an extra $100 for 32GB.

Totally agree with this. Iphone suckers have been dealing with this the whole time. I've only have known like 2 iPhone users that would pay all that money for a 128 gb iPhone. Most got the 16 or 32 gb versions and became very limited on what they put on their phone.
just got my order in. not time to play with it yet. damn, i forgot that samsung switched to 16:9 ratio. makes this thing less massive than i thought (huge negative for me). it's the same width as the note 2 but ~3/16 taller.

The funny thing is that i could do this with my note 3. My daughters had motorola Photon and the other had an Evo LTE and both of those phones could do it. So im not sure how Sprint claims that their network doesnt support it when it clearly can

Tri-band phones are not supported for talk/talk at same time. Sprint Spark did this
Sprint can't even get the listing of the processor correct.
Just went to the sprint store to look at it. Here's the sign showing the specs.

Wasn't asking about volte as that is not phone related at this time. Was asking if the phone itself was capable, as in dual radios.
Guess I'll stay on my note for the foreseeable future. Samsung and Sprint both going backwards. Sucks.

I now get lte in my basement which I didn't get on my note 3, so I would say yes for me at least. I can stream videos and watch YouTube in my room now finally. I'm very happy with this device. I just had to put all of my music on Google play store and put my pictures on one drive and I now have plenty of free storage space and am not at all worried about no SD card at this point. I did get the 64gb

I would like to get a cheap phone for just listening to music and using running apps. I do not need to use it for phone calls, sms or anything, just wifi and gps.
I was leaning towards the Nexus one, S, but am open to other things. I am in Canada, so I don't know if getting US based carrier specific phones would work or not.
I would prefer to pay less than $100
Any recommendations would be appreciated.

What's the point of caring about if it's specifically on a network? Lol your using it only for GPS and WiFi. By the way how are you gonna get the GPS to work without data?

What about Google maps?
Sent from HTC ONE XL THAT SING THE BLUES
That's a good point, is GPS part of data/sim or is it part of the phone regardless of sim cards?
My primary app I use for running is run keeper which utilizes GPS. If I can't do GPS then I wouldn't bother getting a second phone. I already have a great phone, but I really want to avoid using it for running.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
GPS always works no matter if you have a sim card in your phone or not. It is not dependent of it. You can try it yourself take your sim card out of your phone and turn on Gps. You will see it works just fine. I have a galaxy tab myself and it also has Gps support even without a sim card in it.
So to answer your question; it's part of the phone regardless of using a sim card or not.
About Google maps, it will be able to show your location and even give you a route description. The only thing that won't work without a data connection is navigation.

I say try E-Bay, and pick a seller with a good return policy.... I recently went through a couple phones, one of which was $50 and easy to repair.

Navigation is what I was trying to pin point lol. Though as long as your around a WiFi band or even use your current phone as a hotspot host, then any phone should be good for you! The nexus s is still kicking but if I was you I would at least aim for something with a 1ghz snapdragon processor, and 4.0 inches.

I see, but for those running apps there is no need for any navigation whatsoever. They just check how much you ran and so on, and to check that a Gps connection is enough.

To further explain, you can get apps like this free one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.navfree.android.OSM.USA that will let you download the maps when you are connected to Wi-Fi, and then use them without a sim or carrier connectivity.. Doing this, you can turn any Android with a working GPS into a personal GPS unit. I occasionally buy them off e-bay for $20-30, install that app, and give them away to people who suck at driving...

Yeah that's what I had happen. Figure it was the antenna coming lose inside or something.
I chatted with Samsung support. Poured a cup of tea into my mac keyboard so I can't post the chat transcript. I'll try to post the magic sauce that got it working from my note 5.
Go to settings - applications - application manager- all applications - bluetooth. Tap clear data. Reboot your phone. See if Bluetooth is working better.
Mine is awesome. At school I was on my beats solo 2, I went all the way to the bathroom before they started fading, pretty much at least 3 classrooms between, a corner, then the bathroom, not too mention WALLS. I don't even get any service anywhere on campus

My range went bad again in a day or two. Returned my Note 5 to Samsung and they replaced the main board. It works great now!
I realized if connected to my car Bluetooth, talking and tethering at the same time messed up my last note 5. Tried everything to extend the range once broke and couldn't. I had to replace the phone. So now I do not do both at the same time while in the car. Just my two cents.

Talked to T-Mobile on Xmas and the problem is Samsung released an update that broke the range on your bluetooth. T-Mobile doesn't know when Samsung will release a patch to fix this. People that received replacements probably got a phone with the old update. I thought it was my bluetooth set so i ordered another one and same problem. I might have to Odin to a previous stock build.

TMO confirmed that an update is restricting the Bluetooth range? Interesting... I've just dealt with it pretty much since I got the device back in August as it's been tremendously frustrating that even as close as 1m I have connectivity issues...

You can use google voice and sprint integration to make calls and use data at the same time. It's not the perfect solution and you have to use the google voice app when you want to do it, but it's better than nothing. I've used it a few times myself and the voice quality is usually good. Though a couple of times it got pretty bad, maybe because my signal was bad.
I just got my Note 5 and, after connecting it to my WIFI, it shows "connected" but I can't open anything on the Web while connected to WiFi. The Speedtest app always says "network communication issues". I was able to use the wifi a couple of times, but lost it again. I talked to a Verizon agent and he tried a few things. Nothing worked. He connected me to a Samsung customer who simply told me that the problem was related to my router, not the phone. However, my Note 3 is connected to the same router and I have never had any problem. And all my other devices work with no problem on the same Wi-Fi. Anyone had or know of a similar problem? At this point I am simply thinking about returning the phone and going back to my Note 3
Sent from my SM-N900V using XDA Free mobile app
Could be a hardware malfunction. If it's happening and you just got the phone, that's what I'd lean towards. Can you connect to other WiFi hotspots? If so and it works just fine, then it might not be so simple.
I have a similar problem like this with my note 5. I have had mine a little over a week now and my issue is for some reason my note 5 will continuously connect to WiFi and disconnect and reconnect back to WiFi and it would do this every 5 mins. This is causing my phone to have terrible battery life but on 4G my phone will last about a day and a half to 2 days. My WiFi signal is Very strong the phone says but it would still lose connection to it. I myself came from the Note 3 and my note 3 never lost connection to my WiFi. I have a Netgear router wireless N+ and i use the 5Ghz output on it. Lately now i noticed its getting better its not disconnecting as much as it was when i first got the phone i don't know why its weird. I was about to return it thinking it was a hardware issue. I was told that the Note 5 is going to be getting marshmallow update soon by best buy so maybe that will include a fix for these WiFi issues and battery drain issues.

Hey all. I'm considering switching to a Note 5. I currently have a Note 3. I switched to t mobile from att last week and picked up a LG V10 which I am supposed to start using tomorrow. I'm now considering this phone. I had a concern about battery life but from what I see here after rooting and running a custom ROM battery life seems great. I'm concerned about the storage with no sd card. If I got this phone, I'd get the 64 gb version. I'm wondering if samsung has any solution to uploading your photos/videos while on the go. I'm going on vacation for 10 days next month and I know this limited amount of storage wouldn't be enough unless I uploading my photos and videos somewhere each night. I won't have my pc with me. Does samsung have a place to upload? If not where do you upload? Thanks

I use Google photos as well it's imo the nicest and most user friendly cloud upload for photos. However you could auto upload to dropbox, or onedrive. If you have a Microsoft 365 account you get 1 TB of onedrive space included with your account plus you get an additional 100 GB via a Samsung offer when you buy the Note 5. I use Google photos as my primary and onedrive as a redundancy backup.
I thought I was going to miss the sd card slot as well but I don't. I got the 64 and I also carry a 64 GB sandisk otg/usb combo drive which you get usually find on sale at reasonable prices on amazon.

Having had both, the note 3 and the 5 honestly, I think I should have went with the 4. I like the 5 and all but I do miss the SD card, I use Google photos as has been mentioned but having to delete photos and videos is aggravating to me. Between photos, videos, music and apps I am out of space, granted, I have the 32gb but the 64gb would be the same in time.
I have not rooted this phone, been holding out for Samsung pay and my bank to work together, says coming soon. Regardless tho, that's something else I am tired of...I should have stayed with nexus devices in regard to root the more I think about it lol. Anyways, getting off topic now.
I got the 5 because costco had a $250 rebate, Samsung had the holiday promotion and Samsung pay had a $100 credit for purchasing from samsung.com if you sign up for and activate a card. When I added all that up it was just to good of a deal to pass up on.
Just get one of these.

This looks interesting. I worry if I have the phone in my pocket with this in it it might break.

You only have it in when you need it, otherwise you put it back in its little holder and keep it on your keys.

The Note 5 is so much better than the 4. I think the 3 was better than the 4 but the 5 is a great device as long as you can get over the storage. I think a Keychain OTG thumb drive is a good compromise for those with additional storage needs.
Yes please dont fall into the trap of so many being dependent on an sd card. There are so many choices to use and honestly 50 gb of data on your phone just because is a lil crazy. You have as mentioned above plenty of storage alternatives and videos I simply upload to Youtube and privately share or watch.
People seem to forget that sometimes phones take a dump, get lost, stolen or break. Now with your whole life on the phone what next?
Great phone, first time not rooting in 6 years or so and with package disabler and a conscious effort to effectively keep my phone from being bogged with crap things are working out lovely.... Plus I use and love Samsung pay

I have a thought......
Because of Qi charging. The Micro SD will be seldom used. The Note 5 is slick so most people will end up using a case....so..... I am waiting for someone to build a case that has a microsd built in that connects to the usb port and it does not interfere with Wireless qi & NFC use. If someone builds it... I want my 10%! I thought of it first :silly:

Great thought I can't be mad at that just don't see why we need to have terabyte worth of data on our phones. But hey again patent that thought

Couldn't agree more. People also seem to be forgetting or just not reading the reason behind getting rid of the External SDCard.

Whaaaaaat There is a reason for it who would of thought. LOL
People just hate change that's all I swapped a S2 for a Nexus and didn't not sweating the 16gb hard drive just did what I had to do. We are just a bunch of complainers and entitled people that's all.... Lol
I guess the future will be personal cloud ?.. people will have their own wireless storage as a wearable device and it can be accessed without any wires or case and it can be used with laptop, phone and may also be encrypted from others stealing it ?

My Note 4 is my go to device but I also have a Note 5. I thought about getting a V10 but I need the SPen so I had no other choice if I wanted something new.
Somebody mentioned how SD cards are not reliable and can mess up resulting in lost data. Frankly, that hardly ever happens. In years of SD card use I've never had that happen to me but I did have my Note 5 become completely unresponsive. It would not turn on at all and I had to get a replacement from TMobile. Guess what? I lost all the pics I had taken that day because even though I use Google photos, I only sync the pics when charging and on WiFi to avoid using too much cellular data. If I had an SD card I would have been able to pull the pics off the card even though the phone wouldn't turn on.
Some people say there is a good reason for the SD card feature being removed. The only reason is profit. Why could they not have made it work? Some people say it's because the memory isn't compatible with the new memory being used on these phones but I don't believe that. Why is it that OTG works? Couldn't they have just made an SD card slot that worked the same way as OTG?
I like the Note series but I sure hope we get back expandable storage.

Expandable sd slot is built into the chpset. USB otg is not. Think of it as a truck. The bed is built into the body, but to get more room you get a trailer hitch and trailor.
Now we have an suv instead of a truck. That's why swapping primary storage drives was a thing on some older phones. Instead of using a actual nand flash, some phones used a micro SD card for internal and a second for expandable.
On some devices you could actually change to the Expandable storage being the "internal" storage via bootloader.
The type of chip being used in the note 5 is not capable of running a micro SD card and maintain high speed for the onboard. The how to just isn't there yet.
Regardless of that being bs. The other thing about designs, the shells are made first, then the rest of the product. Outside in.
