[Q] Problems updating from android revolution hd 9 to 11.1 - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a note 10.2 which runs with android revolution hd 9.0. I am trying to update to android revolution hd 11.1 but the system stops after asking if I wish to back up the efs partition to external card. I have tried both ways, i.e. without backing up and with backing uo but to no avail: when I press the next button the system freezes and I have to reboot.. I have also tried to select the option to wipe the data but again with no result. The system freezes and restarts with version 9.0.
Any idea how to proceed?
Thanks,
Starplace

Rooting Questions

I'm considering rooting my G2x. I've downloaded Super One Click v2.3.3 and have installed the t-mobile driver.
So, I simply need to plug my phone into my computer and open SOC and click 'Root"???
What can I expect after rooting, if it works? Will I need to install a rom? Which I believe is more-or-less an operating system? If so, where do I get one?
Will there anything left on the phone?
If I need, say, an app for my contacts how will I install it on the phone?
Any help will be appreciated. I've never done this before.
James
You can gain access to apps that need root you can flash ROMs which the best thing and after you root your device if you didnt do a full wipe (factory reset) everything should be the same. but here is a tip back up your currwnt ROM because youll need it in case you want to get baxk to stock ROM or if a ROM you flashed didnt wprk

I don't quite understand. I thought rooting removes most things form your phone.
What is the flash rom? And how do I back up my current rom?
I've rooted the phone, I believe. I have a new app called 'Super User'. When I tab 'Super User' it only lists 'ROM Manager' which I installed. But now I'm totally lost. What would be my next step? I don't seem to have any more permissions to do anything than I did before.
James
Flashing ROM is like changing the OS version you do it after you install a Custom recovery like ClockWork Mod (CWM) you can install it using ROM Manager by clicking on flash recovery
You access the recovery menu by turning off your device then holding down the power/lock key for like 10 second untill you get two icons thr download and recovery you choose the recovery and navigate through the recovery menus using the volume up and down buttons and the power key to click on an option.
For back up you get down to back up and restore then click the power/lock to open it then choose back up and click on it now wait till the back up is done of you want to restore it click on restore instead of back up

Install Titanium Backup, backup apps, uninstall bloatware.
Anything you want! There are many apps that do things but require root on the Market, so just search around!

I turned off the device then held the power/lock but the device booted normally. Now, though, when I tap ROM manager it brings up a list of what I believe are ROMs. The title bar reads "Download ROM". Should I try to bring up the recovery menu again??
I want to thank you for this assistance. I am learning.
James
Not sure what happened.
In ROM manager I chose boot to recovery or whatever that is. Now it seems to be stuck on the Android system recovery utility. I'm able to move the selection at the top betweene:
'reboot system now'
'apply sdcard:update.zip'
'wipe date/factory reset' and
'wipe cache partition'
Nothing happens when I'm on reboot system now and press the Power/Lock button .
Also on the screen:
'Finding update package...'
'Opening update package...'
'E:Can't open /cache/updatye.zip (bad)'
'Installation aborted.'
'Formatting MISC:...
It's been like this for the past 5 minutes.
Any suggestions?

Yes I did remove the battery and it booted.
The fact the the installation aborted isn't a problem, it's normal?
Also, I see no option that you speak of.
The only options I see are:
'reboot system now'
'apply sdcard:update.zip'
'wipe date/factory reset' and
'wipe cache partition'
I mean on the ROM Manager App the first option is flash CMW

I don;t see that option either in the ROM Manager app.
Do I need to buy Buy Premium for this option to be there?

Did you download a ROM that is made for your device ? And you install a ROM by going to 'install Zip from SD Card' then you navigate to the file you have your ROM in and you should do a full wipe if the ROM require to (factory reset and wipe cache partition) if you do so all the data on your device will be deleted (like apps and phone numbers....) but not if the data is on your SDCard, but again make sure the ROM is for your device example if you have i9100 SGS II download a ROM for i9100 SGS II not any other device

I see what you mean now. There are footnotes below the rom.
I'm going to conitue this in the morn. My brain hurts.
James
I finally installed a rom. I then tried to install another. Cynger, or something like that. It went through the process of installing but now when it boots it gets to LG and stops. I need to take the battteryb ou but upn putting the battery back in the same thinng happens.
It won't boot!
I tired only 2 roms and I've already bricked this thing???
then go back to recovery and restore your backed up ROM (and you have to wait for like 30 minutes sometimes for it to boot)

[Q] Help cyanogenmod boot animation

Hello,
I have a Verizon Galaxy S III, new, just followed the tutorial here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1875914,
I used Rom Manager and tried to flash CM 10 from my external sd card and I got the following error message:
"E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed"
from this point I was able to reboot the phone and the phone worked fine (with touchwiz and original android 4.0.4).
I then used EZ Rom from this tutorial to try to accomplish the same thing (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709)
I selected CWM 6.0.1 and it allowed me to select the nightly CM 10 zip file I had put on the external sd,
I then installed from sd the gapps from the same tutorial.
All appeared to be normal and I then rebooted the phone and now all it will do is show the cyanogenmod boot animation.
I have tried taking out the battery and restarting it but that does not fix things, I still get the cyanogenmod boot animation and nothing else.
Can anyone offer any suggestions? Sorry, I have searched the forums but cannot find an answer.
Regards,
M
Also, I believe I had accomplished rooting and unlocking correctly with the exception of no audio "Unlocked" message--that is, I only got a "your phone is unlocked" message on screen when I used the unlock app. I did not get the audio as the tutorial said I would.

First off, thank you kintwofan for taking the time to help me, I appreciate it.
So I pulled the battery, held volume up+home key+pwr and was able to get into recovery,
I selected data reset
Now when I boot up the phone the cyanogenmod boot animation appears and I get a message "unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped and I can select ok
then I get a message set up wizard has stopped.
should I pull the battery and try to install from sd card the CM10 nightly zip file again?
Thanks,
I would say go back to recovery. Factory reset again, under advanced wipe dalvik cache and under mounts wipe system. The flash cm10 and I gapps again. By the way what gapps do you have?

I did the factory reset, then wiped dalvik cache, then I chose format/system under wipes and mount.
I then installed from external sd the CM10 nightly
I did not install the gapps zip file this time,
and rebooted.
now the phone boots up and and appears relatively normal (compared to my Galaxy nexus)
the android version says 4.2.1
However, there is no service, it does not connect to verizon.
if i make the screen black then hit power, the message at the bottom of the phone says "no sim card" but my sim card is installed (haven't taken it out at all)
What should I do next (can't tell you how much I appreciate this--I will pay you!!)

Problem updating to 4.4.2

Hello everyone! My nexus 5 is stock 4.4 rooted with chainfire, and stock recovery.
I received the notification to update to 4.4.2, and accepted, unfortunately it failed, and rebooted normally. I had frozen some system apps with titanium backup (i.e google play music) and think that might've been an issue. I also altered the files necessary to tether.
Wondering how I can try to flash this again? Where is the update stored once downloaded? Can I just flash it in my stock recovery? Thanks for the help in advance.
I have the same problem. I just uninstalled a few apps like play music. Phone is rooted with twrp as recovery.

Freezing apps is fine, it's the tethering mod that is preventing the OTA from flashing.
You can download the factory image and update that way. Flash them one at a time so your data doesn't get wiped.
This might help - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14

Cyanogenmod 11 stuck booting

First off, sorry if this isn't the right place for this thread. Yesterday my rooted gs3 running cm 11 started randomly turning off. This morning I got sick of it and formatted and wiped the phone. (factory reset, data & cache wipe) In clockwork recovery when I hit reboot now, it says I have lost my root and can select an option to root now. I hit yes, the phone boots to where it says Samsung Galaxy S III with the cyanogenmod theme. This is where it stays. If anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated.

Can you put a ROM on an SD card?
You might have to use Odin to flash a stock image if you don't have an sdcard

Browser freezes on RAZR HD xt925 then device reboots

Hi,
I have a razr hd xt925 (Rogers Canada). I flashed CM11 unified msm8960 (do not remember which version) then when M8 snapshot was release I updated it using Cyanogen updates and currently I am on version 11-20140708-SNAPSHOT-M8-moto_msm8960.
- Android version: 4.4.4
- Kernel: 3.0.101-g41dd045
- build# cm_moto_msm8960-userdebug 4.4.4 KTU84P c5de078e68 test-keys
With the previous build and this current one, the browser (this also happens with chrome) gets frozen after like 15 minutes of usage, I'd say once or twice a day, then the razr reboots.
Other than that, the device is very smooth and much better than original ROM.
Can you help?
Did you clean flashed?
In recovery when going from a Nightly to a Snapshot one should always clean flash to avoid any issues, that is, wipe data factory reset (this wipes cache (including dalvik), data (not internal data). It leaves your phone in a factory state. Also, wiping the /system partition is a good idea, this remove the OS and makes it even more cleaner to install the rom.

I did that and it went fine for a couple of days then I am back to the same issue. I also did not install any app after flashing. Unfortunately, this will force me to reinstall Rogers ROM 4.1.2 and wait for the official update.

Very weird. You can try restoring back stock and clean flashing directly to the snapshot M8, and see how it works. Also, gapps can be the problem too. Make sure you use CM 11 updated gapps, you can find them here:

Hope this helps.

I did all that. I refalshed stock ROM then rooted, installed CWM, then flashed cache, dalvik, data, and formatted system. I then installed M8 but still the device freezes occasionally and reboots.

I will try to reproduce your issue to see if this is not only you. I mostly use Firefox for more than 15 minutes, reading and stuff, and have never noticed that. Going to do the same with chrome for the same amount of time and see what happens.
