Hey guys!
Soo.. Pocketlint had accidentally posted their Galaxy S5 review minutes ago and has deleted the page... However, I managed to enter the page seconds after it was posted and I've read the review. I have taken screenshots of the page for you since it is now inaccessible. What can I say, I am underwhelmed by this device. If you're looking for a metal S5, look somewhere else.
See it for yourself.
(And yes, of course it will come with a fingerprint scanner )

What a disspointment.
I was getting my hopes high for a premium device worth the price they are asking. Samsung prices their phone the same as Apple, yet Apple phones are so much more PREMIUM. can't say that about Samsung. I hope people would stop buying it so they learn a thing or two.
This phone looks exactly like the S4 who also looked like the S3... seems like Sammy has copied Apple in this department too.
I thought they were saying they would start with a new fresh design. what happend to that?
I will definitely not be buying the S5 if it looks like that. When will samsung understand, that exterior design is an important part of a smartphone.

Well, I'm not mind-blown but I DO like it, actually.
Looks boring...
I'm going to wait to pass judgement til more details are available than a paragraph and a few pictures. The only thing I find disappointing from this sparse info is the 1080 resolution, I was expecting 1440.

1440 would be a waste. 1080 is fine on a 5 inch display, let the battery tech catch up a bit. That said, I don't care about the new sensors but I would trade my S4 for an S5 in a second if it has better battery life (which it should).
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Hm1o4DOsj5s
Why is the bezel thicker? That alone makes me not want to buy it at all.
Nothing to be excited about...
this is a real foul for samsung, they should have made a premium looking device. Shiny plastic bezel looks terrible. I currently have an S4 i9505, and while I like my phone, other companies such as HTC have done a really good job with making their phones look beautiful and sturdy. Apple will just steamroll samsung when the iphone 6 comes out.
The Galaxy S5 is a disappointment. I was expecting a metallic enclosure. Or a new, fresh design at least. Shamesung. Or Samesung.
I really expected something more, this is just,.. meh. Imho the phone is really ugly,
S4 is much better looking, and that back cover is just atrocious...

Samsung takes a leaf out of Apple's book & recycles the design of its last flagship device.
Admit it's just a GS3 with a few extra bells & whistles, upgrade the innards check, upgrade the camera check & alter the screen a bit. Bang you have yourself a new flagship, market the hell out of it & watch the sales roll in.
At least HTC made a big change between the One & the One X, especially in design and innovated in the camera rather than just banging more megapixels on it.
That said it still looks a very strong device & I might get one.

No it's not its a comment on Samsung doing exactly the same as people have criticised Apple for doing in the past.

What the heck does if it have a battery cover have to do with anything. This is commenting on Samsung recycling the same design again not on whether it has a battery cover or not. The OS is again irrelevant to the principle of reusing the design as for legal action of course they have carried out legal action as have many manufacturers.

Seriously?
The S4 looks JUST like the S3... which ALSO looks just like a mini Note 2. (I owned both).
I don't think any of them are ugly, but I don't find them sexy either. That is all just personal preference, but to say the S3 is ugly, and the Note 2 and S4 are beautiful is just.. well, silly. Your analysis is ... flawed... to say the least.
The S4 definitely is a bump up from the S3 spec wise, no question, but in the looks department it is mid size between the S3 and Note II, nothing more, nothing less. Only very minor aesthetic change.
See Sig - I have owned most of their recent phones. I'm not speculating, I had the Note, Note II, and S3 as well as others.

You're nit picking. As a whole the S IV looks exactly like the S III and though the internals are slightly buffed, externally (which is what 95% of the public cares about) it's the same. Apple gets away with it because their chassis is admittedly beautiful, but Samsung is sticking to this flimsy, cheap plastic design which is not a head turner. They dropped the ball with this one and I think HTC will gain ground as they introduced a beautiful phone with the HTC One.

Constructive rebuttal. The phone is flimsy, and the quality of material used is sub par. If you're used to such things then it's fine. I've had all of the Galaxy S phones and now own the S3. As an owner it's disheartening to own a phone with such lackluster material in comparison to far more premium build phones that are equally as powerful and cost the same amount. Why don't I just switch? I probably won't and I'll wait for the S V as it'll be a worth while jump in speed and efficiency.
I just have to agree, in my own opinion, the S4 didn't make HUGE design changes. On that, I think most agree. I'd still love to have it. Though, Not as much as I would like to have the HTC One.

I was a little disappointed...but there running out of room to improve on...over all I'm satisfied...if you already have an s3 then there isn't much reason to upgrade to it...but if your just ending your two year then its the perfect phone...
The one looks nice...but its missing the ad card...that is a necessity for me and many others...I could care less about removable battery, I just want my sd slot...I love music too much, streaming lowers the quality and 32gb on board just isn't enough when each song is 10-20mbs...
Anyways...ill admit, I am a Samsung fanboy....I hate HTC - they are a pain to get setup for Roma compared to Samsung devices...unlocking bootloader, s-off...just a pain. I gave HTC a try and I don't think ill ever give them another...

Plastic IS NOT A SUB-PAR MATERIAL. There are many areas other than cost that Samsung's "plastic" is superior to aluminum in a mobile device application. Hell, car manufacturers figured that out a long time ago.
As long as the screen is more durable than on the S3, I doubt the build is "cheap" except to the uneducated.

i really like the feel of back cover of my GS2 and Gnex :good:

I hope Samsung doesn't give up on the replaceable battery and microSD slot. The fact is that most people put their expensive phones inside covers so the original design doesn't matter much. It's the kind of thing reviewers make a lot of noise about but most customers don't really care that much.
yeah, "worried" is definitely inaccurate, they are far from worried but let's all keep it real here and not be too one sided. The One has an incredible design and great choice of material ( I won't give it credit for build quality cause they always have QC issues), apparently most people like that. So imagine if Samsung can ( and they certainly can) make the next flagship with a whole new design, choose a strong kind of material, I think it'll be game over for everyone else. We here all like the plastic but many don't, so Samsung will make everyone happy by changing things a little.

"Galaxy Mega." Someone listened to the Engadget Mobile podcast.
I have plumped for the HTC One, coming from the Galaxy S2 due to 2 year contracts, and never cared for what others call "premium" builds.
Having owned the HTC One for a few days now I have to say that having a phone made from more "expensive feeling" materials is by no means a bad thing.
It can only be a good thing if Samsung start putting a bit more effort into handset design. We all know that Samsung usually have the better specs. It really can't hurt to back this up with better design.

Yes, they should definitely change the design. Last year most people were like: "look at that ugly sgs3"... but after a while, the people get used to it. But thtat doesnt mean samsung designs are nice. They are not in my eyes.
The One X was a really cute smartphone made of polycarbonat. It still feels 10000 times better then the glossy plastic s3 (and probably s4). If they use that kind of plastic, it would be a big step forward in look and feel. But i doubt they will do. It will be for sure more expensiv.
What does design have to do with build quality? People get the two confused, Samsung have the best build quality these days. People always say HTC One has the best build quality......... like no I've exchanged it 3 times, all have sucked and I decided to get a GS4 instead and luckily the Network allowed me to do so. 100% certified, correct. To quote my own signature, "don't mistake build materials for build quality". From multiple accounts, the HTC One build quality is poor.
I will bet that the Galaxy S4 build quality will exceed the HTC One's build quality. Argue materials all you would like, but it's time for reviewers, forum members, and the general public to learn the English language. Materials, by definition, is not quality.
I dunno, I like the build just fine but maybe they could use matte polycarbonate like Lumia or HOX. I prefer those over the hyperglaze.

BREAKING: Samsung ditches own AMOLED and EXYNOS inside new Galaxy S IV
Posted by DannyD on 23 February 2013 at 10:01
Yes you just read the title of this message right. Our insider just gave us the first official “unconfirmed” specifications of the next generation Galaxy S, the Galaxy S IV. The Galaxy S IV will no longer use the Samsung EXYNOS processor and according to the latest rumours this processor has overheating issues. Today we can confirm Samsung will use the Snapdragon 600 and it is clocked at 1.9 Ghz which is 0.2 Ghz higher than the HTC One. The Galaxy S IV will have 2 GB of RAM and will come in three variants 16, 32 or 64 GB. As the rumours earlier reported Samsung is going to use a Full HD display. The Galaxy S IV uses a 4,99″ Full-HD SoLux Display we have no information if this is based on LCD3 like the HTC One. But a couple of months ago we posted the first hint regarding Samsung’s LCD factory is ready to produce Full HD panels from early 2013. And we also know Samsung’s AMOLED factory does have many problems with the production of full HD AMOLED screens.

One thing is for sure though, Samsung is NOT worried. But they may consider changing their design for next year.
I had today the first glance of the Galaxy S4 (the GT-i9505 version) in here in Portugal!
The first impression was very positive, and yes, it's all plastic but i like the touch and the lightness of the S4!
So light in my hands and it didn't gave me the first impression the S3 did, that the phone was some cheap phone that i could drop at any moment in the ground and get it in a million pieces!
One of the things i really disliked is the plastic back cover... i hate it because it gives the sensation of being some cheap plastic..
On the other hand, the TouchWiz 2.0 seemed to me that it lagged compared to my Note (see signature)!
Tried to view some videos and only activating the developer options and forcing GPU i had some smoothness in the video playback (WTF???????)
The overall phone lagged in the interface, opening apps lagged a little bit and what really got me disappointed was the video playback.. laggy!
Anyway the Android version i tried was 4.2.2 and even though i was unable to take some real photos of it because there was a security guard guarding it but overall it seems like a fantastic device with a spectecular screen and JESUS the image quality is outstanding!
No i am not going to buy it since i love the Note devices and i am waiting for the Note 3 for me and my gf!
It's a really good device and honestly i wanna get my hands in the octo core device and give it a ride in some heavy gaming
I loved the front design from Samsung, it is gourgeous! The back sucks honestly and even though the device is only in exhibition for 2 days it was full of scratches in the back (dafuq? )
Here is my first mini review from the point of view of a user!
Had it in my hands for almost 10 minutes, couldn't test it fully but i will have the opportunity of doing so in this week and i will take some photos of the device
:good:
I was really confused with your mini review.
I couldn't quite get if you liked or disliked it.

Liked my friend! Compared to the S3 which really disappointed me this is a gorgeous device
I'm pretty shocked at the amount of lag on my new GS4, my GS3 is far smoother(even more so running AOKP Task650). My HTC One is butter smooth in comparison. Other than the very noticeable lag, the GS4 is rather nice, I prefer the feel in hand the GS3 but it's a close second to the HTC One which is the best Android phone yet in my opinion.
nice! I'm glad to be hearing positive opinions about it in my country
I already reserved mine, just waiting for it to arrive to my local Worten store cannot wait
where did you try the S4 btw?
Hi All,
So Samsung is on verge of Announcing Galaxy S4 Active, basically a much better phone then S4 except the Camera. Personally i am ok with that trade off as i get water proof features and a much better build quality. The pixel density is much more as well.
Rumoured Specs of Active from GSMARENA:
The specs are expected to be the same and the live pictures below confirm it - the device is running on a quad-core 1.9GHz processor with Adreno 320 GPU, which most definitely means a Snapdragon 600 chipset. The screen supposedly has the same size and resolution as the original Galaxy S4 - a 5.0-inch 1080p unit, though it's unclear if it's a Super AMOLED one or not. Strangely enough, the reported pixel density of the phone is 480ppi, so the display might actually be smaller.

I personally think this is actually the real Flagship from Samsung for this year and not S4, what are your thoughts, do you think you have been cheated by Samsung is you are an S4 owner, or you think it is a part of the market strategy and a must for samsung to consolidate it's numero uno position.
Its 480 dpi not ppi.
So its exactly same actually.
I feel cheated would have preferred a waterproof one as it's always rainy in the UK
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
Why should it be DPI? DPI is no measurement for displays ...
Antutu is just showing false information.
Ontopic: Why would anyone feel cheated? It's the exact same phone, plus better durability and minus the 13 MP camera.
And even if it was better, do you sleep worse at night, when there is some faster phone out there?
No nothing like that, i still remember people going all out on HTC when HTC one x+ was release saying that how they lost out on a flagship device, when they expected the flagship device the same way for one year. In this case S4 probably would maintain being a flagship for less then 3 months, so a lot of people might feel sad.
For me personally i think it is the right step, maybe this is what they wanted to launch as S4 all along, but probably were not able to complete the tests on time to release it in April.

What makes it a "much better phone?" It's a "different" phone and I'm willing to bet it'll be more expensive than the SGS4. If it's like other waterproof phones all the ports will have covers on them which is a pain in the ass. So it'll appeal to some people (not everyone wants a red phone) and not to others. But to those that want its features and bought a SGS4 because they didn't know the "Active" was coming I can see them feeling "cheated." I'd also question whether the standard SGS4 accessories will work with the Active which could be a downside for some people.
S4 is the main flagship of Samsung and it will stay that way until S5 comes out.
Sent from my GT-I9500
1) The screen will not be that bright than normal S4 and probably there will be no air view. Also, dropping will still not be a survival situation for it
2) the battery can't be removed and there is no evidence of sdcard slot yet
3) the top and bottom rubber will scratch and break in time and those 3 buttons are crap, they should use buttons like Back and menu on the original S4
However, that red is nice, but making the original S4 more solid and S4 Active like it's easy with a Spigen Slim Armor. There are ways to make the phone waterproof too.
A great feature is that if you want to make a tea or warm the bath water, you can play a 3D game and then submerge the phone in that water. It will warm the water (S-thermo?)
also, don't forget how many time you guys needed to take the battery out when flashed or just because the phone frozen. I'm curious how you guys will do it now lol
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I don't feel cheated. I probably would have waited and bought the Galaxy S4 Active, except that I was still using an original Droid X. So it really was well past time to upgrade. I guess the fact that it lasted this long without any such protection (or even a case) means I really shouldn't worry so much about dust or moisture.
Hopefully by the time I need my next phone, the "active" version will be waterproof to 5m or more. Now that would be something. I also don't care about dust; but I'd love to see a phone that can withstand sand without a screen protector.
Waterproof trade off for 8megapixel and s4 pro at 1.9ghz ...cheated ? Nah not really

Well i think let's wait for the official confirmation to come, speculating that screen won't be bright is already indications of trying to put down a phone, whose true nature is yet not revealed

Yeah, I'm sick of speculations too. However, most of phones which are water and dust resistant doesn't have bright screen as the S4. You can see the photos, the brightness is minimum I think, but the screen is too reflective because probably is thicker. But of course, let's just wait.

I'll only be mad if it has more storage
I personally am, only because I'm on T-Mobile JOD to then be able to "Jump" to the Note 10 in August. The S-Pen is very nice, but I can do w/o it for 6 months. I know not everyone has that option depending on the carrier. I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts.
Nope, I love my SPen too much, will wait for N10, also, not convinced about the bezelless screen.

How do we know that they won't do the same for the next Note? That whole Camera in the S-Pen thing I keep seeing seems iffy.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Smartphone's fall under the Business/Creativity category, it would be dumb to have a cut out in the display as that kills the S-Pen.. Well that’s how I’m looking at it!
I won't. I like my note a lot. But I may get it for the wife as she is currently on the S9. Not sure what model she will want.
Something about the note 9 feels premium to me vs the S models. I've had all previous S models and you just can't compare the feel of the note with the S models imho.
I got the E 8/256 model. Traded in my 3 XL for it. I never cared for the 3 XL anyways. I think it cost me $250.
No since the Note 9 is my first Note i do not see my self going back to the Galaxy S line.
I am perfectly happy with my Note 8 N950N. I probably won't upgrade to a new model until my device starts to fail.

After watching a few videos of the Samsung Galaxy S10+! Man that camera cut does not look intrusive at all! It’s so subtle i think Samsung has pulled it off! And the OLED screen looks Amazing!

Personally I think the holepunch on the display is not the best idea for a all display all the time immersive experience. I think that Samsung should have continued to use the old design with thin bezels. As that looks much better than having a hole in my display. But who knows maybe when I go to see the promotional event of the SGS10 series, I will change my mind. Afterall I didn't like the idea of not having physical buttons on my devices. Then I got the Note 8 and I have took to it like a fish in water...
I can't jusifty the added cost from my Note 9. First time in a while I'm not in a rush to upgrade.

Yep i kind of agree with you untill seeing the S10+ in flesh cant really say! You seen the new Sony Xperia a1 4K OLED 21.9 ? it looks mental no hole punch i'm really tempted taking the Sony route! But Samsung are awesome as well owning so many samsung gear it kind of hard to let go!

To be honest any who has either a Note 9, one of the SGS9 or even a Note 8 or one of the SGS8 series devices. There really is no point in upgrading to the SGS10 series. Sure there is a bump up in the specs and you get a newer display. But at the end of the day if your current device is still working perfectly fine, what is the point. Save you cash until your device becomes obsolete then upgrade to the latest model.
