Hi everybody!
In your opinion which is the best way to clean the display of a ppc?
...of course if someone didn't use the screen protector ;-)
Thanks!
w_s
spray for glasses are perfect.
which type?
Thank you for reply!
Which type do you think is better: for normal glasses or for no-shine lenses?
Which type you tried?
w_s
I don't know the English term but for normal glasses (same as Bill Gates one hihi ^^ )
bill's glasses!
hehehe
mmh I think bill has anti-glare glasses...
I've always used a couple of drops of my digital lens cleaner with a microfiber cloth. . . works great!!
yep!
It's a good idea!
Thanks!
w_s
just use a micro-fiber cloth.
I use the spray for glases, as soon as it is dry enough, I use a peice of scotch tape to pull out the residues. If i am in a hurry, I just use the scotch tape and that alone is effective enough. You can also get even the smallest dirt with it, even the ones stuck at the very corner.
Thank you all!
Now I can clean the display without being afraid of damage it...

Wow, seriously, glasses spray? I think I have some that came with my specs, but won't the liquid damage the screen or seep in?

NO, don't spray directly on the screen! Spray it at the cloth, then wipe the screen. You just need it to be a little wet, NOT dripping wet.
What do I use to remove the scratch? thx.

please advise what i can do to fix or do i have to replace it for a new touch screen.
if i need a new screen where in th uk is the best place to have it re fitted
thanks
I think it's called Displex scratch remover or similar - try it out it will fill the hairline scratch and make it invisible.

Are you sure this will work? Displex melts a bit of the acrylic plastic on most screens so that it fills up the scratches. Last I heard, the Diamond's screen is glass.

If its the screen I'd be carefull applying anything as you risk the display becomes blurred (same reasons thet don't remove scratches on glasses). If it's made of glass maybe consult a car repair shop reparing wind screens. Let's hear what you find out.

The outer layer is not glass. It's the layer underneath the digitizer that is glass. Have you noticed that you can indent the screen when you touch it, say, with the stylus? That should prove it for you.
As far as the displex goes I personally haven't tried it as I use a screen protector (which on a side note I have ruined today as my stylus has developed a sharpness that has scratched the crap out of it). So the idea is to replace it when it's gone bad with a new one. If you've scratched the actual outer surface then you could look at replacing it (I'm not sure how you'll go about doing that) or you could try the displex.
Attention: use only on non-coated surfaces and plastics; when used on mobile phones, treat only the transparent portions of the display lens. Not for use with touch screen displays.

Uh-oh... Haha I think I recommended Displex to someone before... I've seen people use it on GPS displays and it worked fine, even with touch screen... But if they say no, don't risk it.
looks like it will have to be a new screen,
is the outher screen a seprrate part to the glass section of the screen ??
does anyone know where i can have it replaced in the uk?
If your going to replace it then I'd have a go at polishing it first and see what happens. What you got to loose.
I once used a bit of Brasso on the screen of my car headunit, got the scratches out a treat.

If you're going to have a new screen anyway I'd first experiment with some of the various proucts discussed. If it works you save the repair, if not then no harm done as you'l get a new dispaly (at the cost of a new TD likely).
update
managed to get hold of a new screen for a reasonable price too

Search for the tech. manual on the net. It explains step by step how to do it. Good luck with it. I cannot recall where I found it, but even somewhere in xda is a link I think.

it was in my housing replacement thread before...
very difficult job from what i can tell for replacement
almost as annoying as iphone DIY since it has the most annoying housing ever
this may sound stupid but it is stuff that works
take a piece of microfiber cloth
a banana
toothpaste
and any glass cleaner
1st take a small piece of banana and rub it on the screen for about 3 minutes and take your microfiber cloth and whipe it off... (do not use water) and do not use paper towel or toilet paper!!!!(it will ruin the screen
now flip your microfiber to the clean side and set it down...
take your tooth paste (white colgate is the best) and rub it over the screen for 5 minutes again take the clean side of microfiber and rub off the toothpaste... it will smell minty for a couple of days but eventully it will go away!!!
please try this it works take the time it will work and again do not use any water!!! that means dont put water on cloth and wipe off
hope it helps

Right... I can understand using tooth paste, but a fricking bannana? How funny is that? I honestly would like to see a guy polishing his £350 phone with that.
You've made my day
Ps. I'd suggest using a carrot and then a potato afterwards
COuld be the small amount of acids in it.
A lemon may be too strong. Banana has a fine 'polishing' structure too.
it works man.... banana is my friend......
delicious too

Hehe, My apologies then, I'm gonna give it a go as soon as I spot the first scratch
I'd like to remove a scratch from Galaxy S display. Would you recommend this way to get rid of scratches ??
Never had any good luck with these liquids/pastes etc. I had quite a small scratch on my old phone and it never really helped. I suppose nothing would stop you buying it and giving it a go?
If you do report back.
I have had luck with Displex, but on a plastic display. The Galaxy S display is glass, and plastic polishes will not do a thing.
There are compounds to remove scratches from glass - they are very specialized (cesium oxide is one) and can usually found at mirror companies. That would be your best bet.
sgs plastics aren't meant to be polished, you could try car polish, but i doubt there's one soft enough! =/
Displex won't have te proper effect, maybe after hours of rubb'n it?

Well I've found where to buy this compound. It's also used in jewels to polish. its Cerium Oxide. There are many soultions how to remove scrathes from glass using polish disc and driller. But I dont know how tu use it on such small surface
I used cerium oxide on my Samsung Captivate (gorilla glass) and it worked like a charm.
I just had to mix the cerium oxide pwoder with water and apply it on the phone screen using a rag. After 45 minutes of polishing all the scratches (5 scratches 3-8 mm long)were gone.
Regards!
Doesn't this damage the touch screen sensors or anything? I know they're built into the glass aren't they? Or are they on the underneath side?
I've got a couple of scratches I'd like to get rid of, but I can live with them if doing this would damage the screen in anyway.
even with gorilla glass, the phone picks up scratches?
Must do !! i too have a scratch on mine, it is small and looks like a hair strand but its very annoying...
But i invested in some screen protectors they were only £2.50 delivered but they do a good job and has covered up the scratch so i cant notice it anymore.
If you don't like scratchs invest in a protector.
Toothpaste works too!
http://www.ehow.com/how_5113910_use-toothpaste-remove-scratches.html
I have tried it before, but it works better on plastic than glass. I guess glass is just too hard for the toothpaste to have noticeable effect. But might as well give it a try. At the worst it just won't make any difference at all.
don't waste your money on Displex it doesn't work on the Gorilla Glass, I've tried and failed.. Jewellers polish is the best solution.
Sorry for bumping an old thread.. But ill try to erase some scracthes from my s2 gorilla glass today with cerium oxide, the manual way.. I hope it will get out after 1 hour or less
Let us know if it worked!
No results doing it manual.. I guess i need to use a tool. =[

Use Tin Oxide to remove scratches from glass and plastic

Well better late than never. I've been in this game since the 1980's..yikes and I can tell you without a doubt that the best glass and plastic scratch remover/polisher is Tin Oxide!! Get yourself some Tin Oxide from a pottery supplier. The best method is to mix some with a tiny amount of water to a toothpaste consistency and using a "Slightly Damp Soft CLEAN Cotton Cloth" or similar, rub in small circles. It might take a few goes but it will remove scratches in almost anything including glass, ABS, cellphones, sunglasses, baby monitors, jems and rock such as greenstone etc. It's also really good to cut and polish cars or any paint including urethane and lacquer etc as it wont pill into little balls as it cuts and stays on the cutting wheel, such as a woolen buffer, not flying off. Its also good to remove oxidized ABS (ie the white opaque look) from car headlight covers etc. It's really CHEAP and goes a long way. Remember its an oxide so probably best not to use it on things that could rust.
OK, so today I threw my Incredible (AMOLED if it matters at all) into my backpack and some keys in there scratched it a little bit. The scratches are not too deep, and you can't feel them or anything, so I was hoping there might be a way to fix it. I looked around a little bit and saw that toothpaste can help for getting scratches out of things like CD's and such. Has anyone tried this on their phone? I don't think anything bad would happen, but I don't really know...
Also, I know that I should have bought a screen protector, so please don't remind me about that.
'Getting scratches out' sounds like a bit of a oxymoron. You don't have something IN your screen, a scratch is more like a bit of surface screen missing.
I can't see why toothpaste would harm the screen. Just don't get the phone wet, turn it off, clean up afterwards, etc.
Really can't see how it would help either...
I have never heard of using toothpaste to fix scratches, but since the scratches are not to deep I try this product that has done wonders it is called apple sauce and was originally made to fix iPod scratches. Look it up on amazon.
If this helped please press the thanks button
Yes! It works well, rub it in tiny little circles starting in the center of the screen and working your way out. BUT BE CAREFUL. don't push hard ar all, and don't do the same part more than 2 or 3 little "circles" or you may destroy the screen. if you do it right though, it should work fine.

What do you mean "destroy the screen"? How easily can I accidentally do this? I don't want it to get worse!
They say you can do it on CD's it acts like a polish. I think it all depends on the surface of the screen and what kind of metirial it is made up of.
Good luck though!
Vaseline. lol
Yes, it will probably work since toothpaste is the same as a car polish in general
Sent out of my Free Candy Van.
Mustard works better than toothpaste. It turns into glass when you use it to remove scratches on your phones screen. If you rub it on your face every night before going to bed you'll grow a proper manly beard too. Really, there's no limit to the things you can do with mustard with it's amazing properties.*
*All of the above is patently untrue in the same way that turning lead into gold is pure fiction. Toothpaste contains mild abrasives. Would you use sandpaper on your screen?

Nice! I tried the mustard, and it looks like it worked! My screen looks brand new! Also, I think I can already see stubble after just one night!!! The only problem is now my pillow is stained yellow...
Anyways, I thought that the toothpaste helped because of the slight abrasiveness of it...?
There are products here in the UK made under the Duraglit brand as Brasso and Silvo. These are metal polishes, but are also available as a cotton wad roll impregnated with the stuff. I do not know if they are sold in the USA, but there may be something similar from US manufacturers. As their name suggests they are made to clean and polish brassware and silverware.
It is a very fine abrasive suspension, but it also contains ammonia to remove any tarnish, and white spirit to act as a lubricant. They are quite good at removing scratches from watch glasses etc., by gently cutting into the surface, down to the level of the scratch.
On touch screen devices, the touch screen sensitive layer lives above the screen glass, but under a plastic protective layer. It will be this top layer that you have scratched. The product above or something similar may work, but check that the white spirit does not attack the protective plastic layer.
As mentioned above small, circular movements, a little at a time may work. If you cut through the protective layer, you are in trouble.

Nice to see people getting into the spirit of things Anyway, i hope you find a solution that works. I personally might be tempted to ask the manufacturer to replace the digitizer, as long as the cost wasn't too prohibitive. I tried changing one myself on an old phone and it didn't work out too well
Am not sure about what kind of display cover your phone has. But, if it's capacitive or IR and the top layer is glass, take it to the local wrist-watch merchant/repair center and they could fix it for you using H2SO4 and some filler.
Alternatively, you can have the top layer of the touch panel replaced.
And, next time, do use a screen protector. =D

Is it true that tooth paste works like sand paper on glass, does that mean that it contain something harder than glass? I don't have scratch just want to remove paint between my screen protector. Want to know if tooth paste actually micro scratch the glass.
So my Nexus 5 took a bad spill today and the top part of the back cover kind of popped loose and there was a faint scratch on the screen. I popped the hinge back into the phone so that seems to be okay but this faint scratch is about 2.5 inches long on the screen. I can't actually feel the scratch but I can see it. Does anybody know of a polish to help conceal this?

Sorry to hear about your device's tumbled fall - so much for those with naked preference. Ours are heavily protected ...
Being that it's GG3 with special coating - not so sure what will work w/o making it worse, you might want to try to contact these folks via email & see what they recommend (and whether their products will mitigate somewhat) - https://www.klearscreen.com/
Good luck !
Do not use polish or any abrasive chemicals on the screen. Because it has special coatings applied to repel fingerprints and reduce friction etc. Using a polish will remove those layers and may make the screen look worse. If the scratch annoys you too much, try putting on a screen protector, or a tempered glass screen shield on top, that may hide the scratch. Whats more that will also protect your screen from stuff like in the future.
