[Q] LTE bands-software or hardware limitation? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got a US Nexus 5 D820-But i do not live in the US (didn't know about LTE bands limitations)
the N5 D820 LTE only works in the US - the N5 D821 LTE works in rest of the world.
North America (D820) Nexus 5 model:
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
CDMA: Band Class: 0/1/10
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8/19
LTE: Bands: 1/2/4/5/17/19/25/26/41
Outside North America (D821) Nexus 5 model:
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8
LTE: Bands: 1/3/5/7/8/20
Are these LTE Bands limited by software or hardware? can i make my device work in LTE outside the US? thanks.

Hardware and no.
Actually the bands for d820 listed above are wrong. Even Googles own site appears to be wrong. The wtr1605l radio is the first to be capable of supporting 7 bands but Google list 9. The box of the d820 is more accurate

Band 2 (PCS A-F) is a subset of band 25 (PCS A-G) and band 5 (CL850) is a subset of band 26 [eSMR 800 + CL850] so it does indeed support 7 bands.

It doesn't according to spec. Wtf.
Stop overreacting because you don't understand what you're reading.
They're using channels, not frequencies. It has the channels T-Mobile uses for AWS HSPA+.
T-Mobile is using channels 2 and 4 for HSPA+, as far as I know, and those are supported: WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8/19
FYI - HSPA = WCDMA, not GSM, so looking at the GSM frequencies isn't going to tell you anything for HSPA+ connectivity.

Thanks for the confirmation. I was worried. T-Mobile doesn't have lte everywhere so I wanted to make sure it falls back to hspa+and not edge.

those are the specs of the unlocked version of the nexus 5 from the playstore.
I know i will be able to use it on the service. But i want to know if i will be able to use simple mobile’s 4g network.

I haven't been able to yet but if I find any thing either. If i find anything I will post it here.
Simple mobile just piggy backs on either at&t or T-Mobile so yes.

Frequency check

Hello all. Considering a move from the current phone to this, but wanted to check this first. As I read the specs for this phone, it appears that it supports *both* CDMA and GSM at this same time, meaning it truly is carrier agnostic. If this is the case, it would then outweigh the major drawback of not having expandable storage. (Owncloud is being planned to take care of that shortcoming).
So, can someone verify bandwise if this is the case? Looking to jump from AT&T to T-Mobile if this turns out to be the case. (Looking for the inclusion of Cdma as then Sprint and Verizon become available)

The Nexus 5 will work on T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint in the USA. Verizon is not supported.

d820 vs d821 outside the us

hello i have a question,
i live in jordan and my service provider uses (GSM “2G”: 900 MHz HSPA+ “3G”: 2100 MHZ) , and no LTE for now
my question is if it will be a diffrance between d820 and d821 if i don't use LTE?
and i cant compare the HSPA+ bands , because it is 2100 mhz and the device show 1/2/4/5/6/8, can someone explain this to me?

[Q] Nexus 5 Changing the LTE Channels

Hello there, has anyone been successfull in changing the LTE channels of the Nexus 5?
Tried the Toturial for the Galaxy S5, managed to change the settings but they dont stick after the reboot, tried with SlimKat and Stock ROM, and Bricked Kernel (has the option to enable DIAG mode).

you can not change the channels. the nexus 5 comes with the max allowed channels for the chip, you cant add any more. this isnt a galaxy s 5, its a nexus.

Then maybe just swap the US channels for the European ones and vice versa?
The US model has many more LTE channels than the European version, so might be possible?
