Hello everyone.
The reason i am making this thread is to ask the ladies and gentlemen of this forum a bit of a noobish question.I have had for awhile now a Asus Transformer TF300T.It is completely stock and unrooted.I wish to get it rooted so i can use a certain number of apps and maybe in the future try to flash a different ROM for the first time.I have been reading about it on the forum and have sadly been overwhelmed by the number of threads, each saying something else(dont use this method if you have this version, dont use that method if your tablet is not 10.6.1.27 etc).
So i would like to provide you with the screenshot of my tablets specs and ask you to point me in the direction of the thread/post which i can use to root my specific version of the device. If you need any more information tell me what you need and i will do my best to provide it.
Thank you for your time, and please forgive me for any grammar mistakes i might have made, since english is not my native language.

You have Android 4.2, which means you can flash JellyBean or KitKat ROMs. For JellyBean ROMs, you will need TWRP 2.6.3.0 - 42. For KitKat ROMs, you will need TWRP 2.6.3.2, available in the threads of those ROMs.
Also good tip: Never press Wipe Data in the bootloader menu if you have unlocked your bootloader. It will result in a brick.
Try NvFlash out. It will create backups that make your tablet much harder to brick.

Hello
I have virtualy the same settings screen, however I would like to go further than just rooting an use a different operating system.
My stock ROM is using up far too much battery power.
I very much would appreciate a tutorial to teach how to root and flash a ROM, with the information the OP gave in their scree-shot.
Thank you

I'm stuck in a situation here:
1. Unlocked TF300TG with asus unlocker v8
2. installed TWRP 2.5.0.0 and later 2.6.3.0
3. I have a CROMI-X.zip on SD-card inside the tablet, but in TWRP it doesn't get recognised. In android it does. In fact, TWRP doesn't mount anything.... What am I doing wrong?
Thanks..

First check your bootloader version and make sure you have downloaded the right TWRP for that version. If your bootloader is older than 10.6.1.15.3, I highly recommend upgrading it. Then make sure you pick the -42 version of TWRP. Neither -ics nor -jb versions will work with 10.6.* bootloaders.

It is exactly your problem. Use TWRP -42 for the TF300T to flash 4.2-based ROMs and TWRP 2.6.3.2 or later from the OmniROM thread for flashing 4.4-based ROMs.
Again, the TWRP -ics and -js versions do not work on your bootloader. A lot of people bricked their tablets trying to use them on a 10.6.* bootloader.
The TF300T versions will work just fine on your TF300TG.

Hi all!
I got my transformer infinity and the first of all connected to wifi and upgraded to JB.(it was a doltish action)
then realized that it was a deadend too root and development:crying::crying:
the only way I was able to move on was Unlocking bootloader and void warranty
now I have a costom bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797692
what can I do now for rooting & nvflash, dualboot for UBUNTU(Ithing it is very suitable for the infinity because of the dock and touchpad )
now im hanged totaly
plz help me
best regards!
You cannot use NVFlash as you have upgraded the bootloader. It only works on .26 or earlier. Not on .30 or JB. You can load several of the custom Roms, just check your MD5 sums before installing them, and be wary of Alpha builds or TF300 based ones. If you don't get too crazy, you should be OK without NVFlash. Having it is like car insurance, you don't plan on using it, but when you do crash it's nice to have.

No such dual boot available and doubt there will be for some time.

+1 CleanROM v1.3 is rooted and flies like the wind. If you are not rooted, you will need to fastboot flash the TWRP custom recovery in order to be able to flash a custom ROM. Look for TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project ) thread in Development section.

Under Windo2s I very much like HashTab -- once installed, right-click on a file and under the Properties window, you get a new tab called "File Hashes" or something like that. If you transfer the file under Windows (e.g., using a card reader), you check it again just to be sure.
Under Android I use MD5 Hash Checker because it provides Send-to functionality: you can browse to the file using you preferred file app (mine is Total Commander) and just send it MD5HC.
Under both programs, you can just paste in the MD5 checksum the developer gives out and see if the file downloaded correctly.
Just to make sure, there's only 1 way to unlock as of now, correct? The ASUS unlocking app?

Right, and alternatives are unlikely to appear in the near future.
I have some short general questions. Maybe someone can help me
1. At the moment my asus tf300t running with android 4.0.3 (stock) - It the bootloader locked? (I think so)
2. Can i flash a rom with a locked bootloader?
3. Can I unlock the bootloader without using the official bootloader-unlock-tool from asus?
--Then I have to find a good guide to root and install recovery. can anyone recommend one?

That's depend the rom that you want to flash.
But for my part, I give a little advantage for the TWRP recovery, which is used by more than devs therefore access to more than Roms, and which has less of problems that CWM.

I'll take the first three and let someone who has done the last recently so your information is more up to date.
1. Yes
2. No
3. No
Note: If you unlock you give up your warranty. If you update to JellyBean you can't go back to ICS. At this time most people who are on JB wish they were on ICS instead.
Good Luck!
WoW I typed to slow on that one.
Good information has already been provided.
I have a me301t, basically the same as a tf300t right? (there is no me301t forum right now). I am on 4.2.1 stock (root), but the Bluetooth isn't working, so I am wanting to reflash the stock firmware. I want to keep a locked bootloader, so I can still have warranty if I please. I've looked up a couple of videos of how to, but I am wondering if root will mess up the flashing process. I've also been wondering if I can keep root after flash with Voodoo root keeper. Any advice?

Dear all users of TF300T.
If you are using Stock ROM (Rooted/Non Rooted) and are bricked or stuck on ASUS boot screen. Then this guide is for you.
As i was using stock ROM (ROOTED) with Locked boot loader without custom recovery and my tf300t was Sofbricked due to wrong configurations at Display Pixel scaling and also reformat did not work for me.!
So i thought to create this guide which may help people out here It worked for me Try your LUCK.
Sorry if i am re posting i did not got any guides out here...
If this helped you please give me a Thumbs up.!
Steps:-
1. Download the latest ROM from ASUS website Which matches your SKU.(Important).
It would look somehing like this (TF300T-TW_epad-10_6_1_15_3-UpdateLauncher . zip)
2. Extract it and rename that file to ( EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip )
3. Now copy this new renamed file to SDCARD (Root of sd card). Put the SDcard into tablet.
4. Now Press and hold Volume Down + Power for a few seconds. Then you will see the ASUS recovery options.
5. 3 icons will appear: RCK, Android, and Wipe Data. The RCK should be flashing green. Press the UP Volume Key Once.
Now wait for a few minutes. It will flash the ROM.
And wola! Your TF300T will again work fine!!

Oh, Okay, silly me
Hi guys,
I'm a total noob regarding ROMs, root, etc..
My Infinity is getting really laggy, and I really need to bring it to a new life..
I was looking for an ideal CMInstaller situation like i used on my Galaxy Note N7000.. This little app is great cuz it does everything for us and noob users like myself don't need to be afraid to brick their devices..
Is there any really easy solution like this so I can safely flash my TF700?
TIA.
I think the answer is yes and no
I run CROMI-X on this tablet, but recently I download the latest CM and the link provided kept bouncing me to the Playstore to dl an installer app. I prefer to use my recovery, so I did not use it. But that's probably what you are looking for.
The thing is, on this device first you need to unlock the bootloader and push a custom recovery to it before you can even use an installer app. You also need to make sure that you have the correct bootloader installed before you flash the CM rom.
Check out the CM thread in the Development section.
CMInstaller so far is only compatible to most common Galaxy and nexus devices, and htc one.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/CyanogenMod_Installer#Supported_Devices
I am honestly afraid to flash my device without assistance because there are so many things to do and none of it seems easy.. I'm bootloader unlocked running stock 4.1.2, and the steps needed to take scare me..
1 - update to stock 4.2.1 (according to what I've read..)
2 - Root
3 - NVFlash
4 - Custom recovery
5 - Custom ROM
I don't even know if these steps are in proper order, but seems that so many things could go wrong.. Could you help me doing this easily and problem free? I need to do something to take full advantage of my TF700.. It clearly isn't working properly on stock.
Thanks.

I recently wrote a tutorial on Android Central for people who are new to flashing. Check it out and if anything is left unclear - ask
http://forums.androidcentral.com/as...6920-tutorial-flashing-custom-rom-tf700t.html
Hi, I read the tutorial and I already have some questions even before i start..
- Can't my device be rooted? I believe I need root for apps to access superuser, and for performance menu (or overclock).
- Where's NVFlash? If NVFlash avoids bricking my device I believe this is a MUST have if I intend to grow and experiment different recoveries, kernels and ROMs.
- My device FW ver. is 10.4.4.18, do I need to update to 10.6.1.14.10 in order to continue, or can i do it from 10.4.4.18 and still take advantage of the loophole Motochopper exploited to gain root on this device?
Thanks.

You don't need to be rooted to flash a custom ROM. You can root from 14.8 as you don't need to go to 14.10. If you are on 10.4.4.18 you are on a really old boot loader for 4.1 and will need to upgrade if you want to unlock and flash the latest ROMs.

Jeez - where did you dig up this version? I believe that was one of the first JB versions? Yes, Motochopper should work, but: Why root if you can't use Goo Manager to get a custom recovery installed? If that is your goal....
Yes, you can just root the stock ROM, but it does not give you that many options to improve the performance of this tablet. And any custom rom is rooted - so why bother?
To have NVflash is great and a wonderful reassurance and I do flash with greater abandon since I got them, but generating the blobs was the most stressful procedure in my limited flashing experience.
I don't know how comfortable you are with using cmd and fastboot - but I sure was glad to have some experience with flashing recoveries and such before I started it!
Generating the NVflash blobs involves flashing a bootloader and recovery build just for that procedure, so you need to know how to flash those in the first place (and how to flash back to your daily driver recovery/bootloader afterrwards).
There's nowhere for you to go without a custom recovery. Start with that.
I have no idea if the recovery most of us use (TWRP 2.6.1 or 2.6.3.1 - both are fine) works with the BL you currently have.
So I would update to the latest firmware, fastboot TWRP and then install CROMi-X.
You can dive into getting your NVflash blobs as soon as you have TWRP installed - that's up to you.
Edit: sbdags was faster - as usual
So there you have it: You have to update your stock firmware before you install TWRP
Wow guys.. This is why i never flash anything since bada on my Wave..
It's all so technical, confusing and intimidating.. God!!
Ok. I really need to start understanding this, so, if I got it right, I don't need to root because the custom ROM is already rooted.. Good!
Now the hard part. Please be patient and gentle, explain me like I'm 5 yo child.
- If I understood correctly first thing is upgrade FW, but to which FW should i upgrade? 10.6.1.14.10 or 10.6.1.14.8? If custom ROM is rooted, does the FW matter or not?
- Next comes recovery. Again, which one should I choose? (sdbags your opinion would be really important for me here, considering CROMi-X 5.2.2 is developed by you and the ROM i chose)
- I think I'll leave any ROM questions for later, after i finally understand these first 2 steps.
Also, regarding NVFlash, what the bleep is blobs? I'm comfortable with cmd but never used fastboot.
Thanks again!

It does not matter. As long as you upgrade to a 10.6.1.x version, your bootloader will be compatible with TWRP 2.6.1 or 2.6.3.1 - see below.

sbdags is currently recommending TWRP 2.6.1. That is the version he included in the bootloader/TWRP package he provides in the OP (Original Post) of the CROMi-X thread.
To elaborate: In flashing custom roms the most important aspect is that you always have a compatible bootloader/recovery combination. You use your recovery to flash roms, bootloaders, kernels, wipe all or part of your SD card - the works.
If your recovery gets corrupted but you can still boot into the bootloader, you can install a new recovery using the fastboot protocol (which provides low level access from your computer). If your bootloader gets corrupted (and the most common cause is the wrong recovery) and you cannot boot into recovery, NVflash is your last chance to recover the tablet because: no bootloader = no fastboot access.
The easiest way to get a current bootloader in your situation would be to upgrade your stock firmware. The risk for something to go wrong is close to negative 1
Then you would download TWRP 2.6.1 for the TF700 from the Teamwin website and use the fastboot protocol to install it to it's proper partition.
Risk level is very low if you can follow the instructions in my little tutorial or in the Minimal ADB Fastboot Tool thread.
Once you have TWRP installed (and you tested that it's working) you could - and this is totally optional - flash the bootloader/TWRP package from sbdags OP. Just to make 100% sure you are on the correct combo.....
Also, regarding NVFlash, what the bleep is blobs? I'm comfortable with cmd but never used fast boot.

A blob is a file - better: an image. Binary Large Object is the origin, I believe. For a technical explanation don't ask me! Go here:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_large_object
If you look into the Asus firmware zip file, inside is a blob and a meta data file (if memory serves me right). The blob is the system image.
What if while you are flashing a firmware and your power supply is reaching 0%, could it be a high risk? :silly:

Damn you! I was trying to reassure this chap! LOL
There's no remedy for stupidity - so as a scientist you just ignore what you can't account for, right?

I am trying to relax from a long day of work and tiring of tweaking my device... I am looking for someone to talk to.. Maybe, I need to give up my device and back to my normal boring life...

Naaah - if I understood it, it can't be technical Just take your time, read - Google is your friend.
See? You got that right already.

The Asus blob actually contains the system image, kernel, recovery, bootloader and partition table.
Hi there,
I am running an unlocked TF700 on 10.6.1.14.10.
I am currently trying to get downgrade to firmware 10.6.1.14.08 in order to get root and to install custom firmware (stock Asus firmware is just too damn slow).
I've put the unzipped (it was a zip inside a zip) "WW_epad-user-10.6.1.14.8.zip" into the root director of TF700. When I reboot and the system offers me to downgrade, everything seems to be going okay.
But once the downgrade process begin, I get an error message (just a red "error" and a broken android mascot) and i have to turn the TF700 off and reboot back into the 10.6.1.14.10 firmware.
I tried downgrading my going directly into the boot / recovery menu and I get the same result.
How can I find out what's going on?
Thanks,
Levi
You probably have some system apps or bloatware frozen or uninstalled. The upgrade/downgrade checks for system integrity. If it doesn't find certain apps it will not install.
But why downgrade? Root doesn't help you getting a custom recovery onto your tablet.
Unless GooManager works again for flashing recoveries. Have read conflicting reports on that. If you go that route and it works, please let me know.
It is just as easy to flash the recovery in fastboot though. No need for downgrading either...

How do I find what I s causing this? I tried Clean Master but that didn't change anything. How can I get more info on this problem?
I following the instructions for the latest cromi ROM. they need unlock and root.

Go to settings, apps, and scroll over to the right, do you have anything disabled?
If so enable it.
It's probably easier if you block and follow the fastboot instructions to flash twrp and then CROMi-X.

You do need to unlock your tablet to run a custom rom. You do not necessarily need root.
If you are looking at a CROMi thread, you probably look at outdated information. CROMi was JB 4.1 based.
The same dev - the guy up there^^^^, sbdags - developed CROMi-X from the JB 4.2.1 base. That's the latest and greatest rom in the CleanROM lineage. His thread his here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2425383
Check out the OP for information how to proceed.
I recently wrote a little tutorial with current information on another forum geared towards users new to flashing custom roms. Maybe it helps:

Thanks, that last link is exactly what I was looking for. I will try fastboot once I am back home and report back.
P.S. the instructions for the current version of cromi don't reference the fastboot method.
cheers,
levi
Hummm, might be wrong here but if you want to downgrade the version unzip the file one time while it's on the PC rename the unzipped file to EP201_768_SDUPDATE.ZIP plug your sd card into the PC and copy that to the root of the sd card. Then try it.
Got CROMi running using the fastboot method. So far everything is working greater. The UI is much more responsive than with stock 4.2.1. The tablet is actually usable now.
I will provide more feedback in the CROMi thread once I get a chance to use it properly.
Thanks berndblb!
