My TF700 is currently on JB (not sure which version since Build Number isn't showing up on Settings menu anyway), rooted, and unlocked with custom ROM CROMI 3.0.4. I can see that last month there was a new update for the tablet being 10.4.4.25, and I want to update to that to see what improvements there are. The things I'm concerned about needing help with are:
1. How do I update it? As far as I know, I have two files on hand for the new update. One that's about 400+MB from the Asus site, and another being from sdbags' topic introducing his latest version of CROMI that's being about 8-ish MB. Which is the correct one to use?
2. Will I lose my root access after updating?
3. Is there any other precautions I should take before and after I update?
I'm sorry, I'm still a newb at doing this kind of stuff for Android and I've been looking through a lot of threads here on XDA to find the answers I'm looking for. Much help would be appreciated, thank you.

The correct way to upgrade CROMI is to install the latest version of CROMI - it includes the firmware updates from 10.4.4.25 (but the bootloader is separate).
For the bootloader, you can check its version by holding down "volume down" (left) while powering up - the build version should be displayed in the tiny text at the top of the screen. All bootloaders from 10.4.4.18 to 10.4.4.25 are identical, so if you have any of these, you can just install the latest CROMI. Otherwise, in addition to the latest CROMI, also flash the updated bootloader from sbdags.

2. No, if you install CROMI and not the stock ROM.
3. Backup your data before, and then follow the instructions in the installer.
So there isn't any importance for me to really update to 10.4.4.25? I see there is a log of what it fixes, and I was just interested about updating my bootloader to it. Also, how about the two different bootloader update files?

The full firmware includes the bootloader, the stock recovery, the kernel, and the system image. Updating only the bootloader is pointless - the changes you read about were made in the kernel and the system image, not in the bootloader.

If you look at Post 2, he provided the links to the updates for each region. I grabbed the US from his post and it's only 1.09 MB (sorry I checked again. This is the actual size.) When I grabbed the update from the Asus site, it's 456MB. That's what's confusing me atm...

Did you even read my previous post? "The full firmware includes the bootloader, the stock recovery, the kernel, and the system image." That's the difference.
I've got a similar question. I'm on the .30 bootloader, which I've unlocked. I don't exactly remember why I'm on it, but if memory serves, before unlocking/rooting, I did the official upgrade to JB (which updated bootloader to 10.xx.xx) then I had to use the blob to downgrade to .30 in order to get the Asus unlocker to work. I've since flashed CWM Touch 6.0.1.9 and am running a fairly recent CM10.1.
So, am I now able to upgrade the bootloader to a newer (read official JB, or, more quantitaiively, 10.xx.xx) version? If I understand correctly, I can use a blob to flash a new "firmware", which would include the bootloader, rom, ril (we have these right?), etc. However, once I do this, I will be stuck on a stock recovery and rom, correct? If there is a way to upgrade the bootloader and keep it unlocked (/unlock it after), what are the steps involved?
I'm fine with the .30 bootloader, but it's ridiculous that the "Reboot to ..." options do not work. OK, so it's not ridiculous, it's just a bit inconvenient and has been causing me to not flash as many nightlies. My followup question would be, does the JB bootloader address this "issue"? And, correct me if I'm wrong, but the only way to get ROM Manager or GooManager to be able to do scripted flashes is to have these reboot options working, right?
TLDR: Have unlocked .30 bootloader, want JB bootloader but want it to be unlocked. Can it be done? Do I really want it?

In sbdags' CleanROM Inheritance dev thread, he offers bootloader-only installers - you can use these to install only the current 10.4.4.25 bootloader and keep your current recovery, kernel and ROM (no RIL on a WiFi-only device).
Warning: Make sure your recovery is compatible with a JB bootloader on the TF700 - too old recoveries (created for ICS) are known to cause hard bricks with the JB bootloader.

Hey, thanks for the prompt reply. Can you please confirm that this will let me keep my bootloader unlocked? Also, if this does happen to **** things up, do I have any recourse (ie. can I re-flash another, older, bootloader that will allow me to boot?). As I'm on the .30 firmware, I don't have the ability to use NVFlash. Also, will upgrading the bootloader make the "Reboot to.." options work?

Once you've unlocked your bootlader, updating it to the lastest (and presumably greatest) will only updat its code, and not relock it. (If it did that, I bet a lot of the users with trouble could've gotten a free warranty reset! -- ASUS wouldn't do that, trust me.)
For completeness' sake: if you did not unlock the bootloader before, the unlock tool will remain as functional as it would have been in the first place. If you can't unlock the new bootloader, you couldn't have unlocked the old one either (issue is on ASUS' side, well referenced on the forum).
Reflashing an older bootloader: no, unless you have NvFlash and the concurrent backup files-- I didn't gather you ran that procedure before upgrading to .30...

Maybe. It works for me, with the 10.4.4.25 bootloader.
In any case, before you use any "reboot to recovery" tool after flashing a new recovery, always test the new recovery by starting it at least once with the power/volume button combination.

I had a boot-to-recovery loop once with CM10 -- that was a hairpuller. After doing some research (all the while hair-pulling, to be honest), this zip solved it. So as far as I'm concerned, that'd be a yes.

so i've recently picked up my asus tf700 again (after about 6 months of no use) and i know i rooted, upgraded to 4.1.1, and unlocked the device but just don't remember how i did it all. and i'm 90% sure i deleted the stock recovery
what i want to know is how can i upgrade to 4.2.1 ?

Yes, you can... It is a good guide if you can follow it.. You must make sure that you have the latest bootloader and compatible TWRP.. Those are very important so you are not brick your device... Good luck and ask all the questions that you have before trying to install the TWRP and bootloader...:fingers-crossed:

ok so i'm having a bit of trouble following this guide...
1) I installed TWRP (with the help of this page) http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2/105 I had to use the Download - Recovery Image / Fastboot Method because the app method wouldn't download the blob file
2) Now, when I power + volume down boot I can see my bootloader isn't the correct version. how can I update the bootloader? I have the files from the original link i posted (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2481892) so there is the correct bootloader i just don't know how to install it.
is there a more detailed guide with actual step by steps?
Congrats on getting TWRP installed! The rest is easy.
In TWRP select 'Install' and navigate to wherever you have the zip file with the bootloader/TWRP package, select it (if it has xxx signed.zip in the file name you need to check the "verify zip signature" option. sbdags usually signs his zips - don't know if he did with this one).
Swipe the button to flash the file.
When it finished, boot back to system. Do not flash a rom at this point! That would cancel the bootloader flash. Boot back into system first, then back into TWRP and then flash the rom.
BTW - flashing the modified Asus stock rom is perfectly fine, but I wonder why you don't flash CROMi-X 5.2.2?
That rom is from the same developer, based on this stock rom and miles improved since sbdags debloated the stock version.
sbdags stock rom is not really supported whereas he puts out a better version of CROMi-X about every 10 days! It's exhausting to keep up! LOL

Thanks, Honestly whatever custom rom I have now can randomly reboot and i think is giving me touch screen issues so was just going to hit up a stock install and see if that fixes any problems.
gonna try out the rom you suggested and i can always go back if necessary.
one thing, when i installed theTWRP the blue bar filled up completely and i left it for about 10 minutes and it was still there. so i powered down and everything booted back up correctly (and i can get into the recovery mode).
does everything sound ok to proceed?

You have to kick it out when it is completed by using the fastboot command or just using your power button.. So you are good to go...
You have to try out all the rom and kernels that are available then choose the best one that fit your need...Good luck...

I'm a total noob regarding ROMs, root, etc..
My Infinity is getting really laggy, and I really need to bring it to a new life..
I was looking for an ideal CMInstaller situation like i used on my Galaxy Note N7000.. This little app is great cuz it does everything for us and noob users like myself don't need to be afraid to brick their devices..
Is there any really easy solution like this so I can safely flash my TF700?

I think the answer is yes and no
I run CROMI-X on this tablet, but recently I download the latest CM and the link provided kept bouncing me to the Playstore to dl an installer app. I prefer to use my recovery, so I did not use it. But that's probably what you are looking for.
The thing is, on this device first you need to unlock the bootloader and push a custom recovery to it before you can even use an installer app. You also need to make sure that you have the correct bootloader installed before you flash the CM rom.
Check out the CM thread in the Development section.
CMInstaller so far is only compatible to most common Galaxy and nexus devices, and htc one.

I am honestly afraid to flash my device without assistance because there are so many things to do and none of it seems easy.. I'm bootloader unlocked running stock 4.1.2, and the steps needed to take scare me..
1 - update to stock 4.2.1 (according to what I've read..)
2 - Root
3 - NVFlash
4 - Custom recovery
5 - Custom ROM
I don't even know if these steps are in proper order, but seems that so many things could go wrong.. Could you help me doing this easily and problem free? I need to do something to take full advantage of my TF700.. It clearly isn't working properly on stock.

- Can't my device be rooted? I believe I need root for apps to access superuser, and for performance menu (or overclock).
- Where's NVFlash? If NVFlash avoids bricking my device I believe this is a MUST have if I intend to grow and experiment different recoveries, kernels and ROMs.
- My device FW ver. is 10.4.4.18, do I need to update to 10.6.1.14.10 in order to continue, or can i do it from 10.4.4.18 and still take advantage of the loophole Motochopper exploited to gain root on this device?

You don't need to be rooted to flash a custom ROM. You can root from 14.8 as you don't need to go to 14.10. If you are on 10.4.4.18 you are on a really old boot loader for 4.1 and will need to upgrade if you want to unlock and flash the latest ROMs.

Jeez - where did you dig up this version? I believe that was one of the first JB versions? Yes, Motochopper should work, but: Why root if you can't use Goo Manager to get a custom recovery installed? If that is your goal....
Yes, you can just root the stock ROM, but it does not give you that many options to improve the performance of this tablet. And any custom rom is rooted - so why bother?
To have NVflash is great and a wonderful reassurance and I do flash with greater abandon since I got them, but generating the blobs was the most stressful procedure in my limited flashing experience.
I don't know how comfortable you are with using cmd and fastboot - but I sure was glad to have some experience with flashing recoveries and such before I started it!
Generating the NVflash blobs involves flashing a bootloader and recovery build just for that procedure, so you need to know how to flash those in the first place (and how to flash back to your daily driver recovery/bootloader afterrwards).
There's nowhere for you to go without a custom recovery. Start with that.
I have no idea if the recovery most of us use (TWRP 2.6.1 or 2.6.3.1 - both are fine) works with the BL you currently have.
So I would update to the latest firmware, fastboot TWRP and then install CROMi-X.
You can dive into getting your NVflash blobs as soon as you have TWRP installed - that's up to you.
Edit: sbdags was faster - as usual

It does not matter. As long as you upgrade to a 10.6.1.x version, your bootloader will be compatible with TWRP 2.6.1 or 2.6.3.1 - see below.

sbdags is currently recommending TWRP 2.6.1. That is the version he included in the bootloader/TWRP package he provides in the OP (Original Post) of the CROMi-X thread.
To elaborate: In flashing custom roms the most important aspect is that you always have a compatible bootloader/recovery combination. You use your recovery to flash roms, bootloaders, kernels, wipe all or part of your SD card - the works.
If your recovery gets corrupted but you can still boot into the bootloader, you can install a new recovery using the fastboot protocol (which provides low level access from your computer). If your bootloader gets corrupted (and the most common cause is the wrong recovery) and you cannot boot into recovery, NVflash is your last chance to recover the tablet because: no bootloader = no fastboot access.
The easiest way to get a current bootloader in your situation would be to upgrade your stock firmware. The risk for something to go wrong is close to negative 1

Risk level is very low if you can follow the instructions in my little tutorial or in the Minimal ADB Fastboot Tool thread.
Once you have TWRP installed (and you tested that it's working) you could - and this is totally optional - flash the bootloader/TWRP package from sbdags OP. Just to make 100% sure you are on the correct combo.....
Also, regarding NVFlash, what the bleep is blobs? I'm comfortable with cmd but never used fast boot.

It does not matter. As long as you upgrade to a 10.6.1.x version, your bootloader will be compatible with TWRP 2.6.1 or 2.6.3.1 - see below.
sbdags is currently recommending TWRP 2.6.1. That is the version he included in the bootloader/TWRP package he provides in the OP (Original Post) of the CROMi-X thread.
To elaborate: In flashing custom roms the most important aspect is that you always have a compatible bootloader/recovery combination. You use your recovery to flash roms, bootloaders, kernels, wipe all or part of your SD card - the works.
If your recovery gets corrupted but you can still boot into the bootloader, you can install a new recovery using the fastboot protocol (which provides low level access from your computer). If your bootloader gets corrupted (and the most common cause is the wrong recovery) and you cannot boot into recovery, NVflash is your last chance to recover the tablet because: no bootloader = no fastboot access.
The easiest way to get a current bootloader in your situation would be to upgrade your stock firmware. The risk for something to go wrong is close to negative 1

The Asus blob actually contains the system image, kernel, recovery, bootloader and partition table.

The reason i am making this thread is to ask the ladies and gentlemen of this forum a bit of a noobish question.I have had for awhile now a Asus Transformer TF300T.It is completely stock and unrooted.I wish to get it rooted so i can use a certain number of apps and maybe in the future try to flash a different ROM for the first time.I have been reading about it on the forum and have sadly been overwhelmed by the number of threads,each saying something else(dont use this method if you have this version,dont use that method if your tablet is not 10.6.1.27 etc).
So i would like to provide you with the screenshot of my tablets specs and ask you to point me in the direction of the thread/post which i can use to root my specific version of the device.If you need any more information tell me what you need and i will do my best to provide it.

You have Android 4.2, which means you can flash JellyBean or KitKat ROMs. For JellyBean ROMs, you will need TWRP 2.6.3.0 - 42. For KitKat ROMs, you will need TWRP 2.6.3.2, available in the threads of those ROMs.
Also good tip: Never press Wipe Data in the bootloader menu if you have unlocked your bootloader. It will result in a brick.
Try NvFlash out. It will create backups that make your tablet much harder to brick.

I have virtualy the same settings screen, however I would like to go further than just rooting an use a different operating system.
My stock ROM is using up far too much battery power.
I very much would appreciate a tutorial to teach how to root and flash a ROM, with the information the OP gave in their scree-shot.

I'm stuck in a situation here:
1. Unlocked TF300TG with asus unlocker v8
2. installed TWRP 2.5.0.0 and later 2.6.3.0
3. I have a CROMI-X.zip on SD-card inside the tablet, but in TWRP it doesn't get recognised. In android it does. In fact, TWRP doesn't mount anything.... What am I doing wrong?

First check your bootloader version and make sure you have downloaded the right TWRP for that version. If your bootloader is older than 10.6.1.15.3, I highly recommend upgrading it. Then make sure you pick the -42 version of TWRP. Neither -ics nor -jb versions will work with 10.6.* bootloaders.

Mine is 10.6.2.11 but there doesnt seem to be 4.2 blob for exactly 300TG model. Maybe thats no problem...

It is exactly your problem. Use TWRP -42 for the TF300T to flash 4.2-based ROMs and TWRP 2.6.3.2 or later from the OmniROM thread for flashing 4.4-based ROMs.
Again, the TWRP -ics and -js versions do not work on your bootloader. A lot of people bricked their tablets trying to use them on a 10.6.* bootloader.
The TF300T versions will work just fine on your TF300TG.

Could you please point me to a Tutorial that will teach me how to unlock my TF300T with similar features to the OP's screen print?
I have tried to follow other tutorials but they are sufficiently different to my TF300T set-up that I am unable to follow them in the way that the authors describe.

I have an ASUS TF300T running stock 4.2.1 build JOP400D_epad-10.6.1.27.5-20130902. I'd really like to, at a minimum, root this thing so I can boost it up a little bit. And at the most, install another ROM like CM 11.
I've rooted other machines (Droid Incredible, and my current Droid Razr) so I am not a novice by far. But after searching around I am finding that I can't really determine the 'best' method for rooting the TF300T. By best I mean - easiest and safest. With this in mind, can someone suggest the best method (and URL) for rooting the TF300T? And if I want to go so far as putting CM 11 on it (like I did for my phone) can Safestrap be run on this tablet? Any caveats?

P.S. I might mention I use a Mac, so if whatever root method can run on a Mac that would be great. Otherwise if the method can work under a Win 7 VM (VirtualBox) that would be fine too.

I don't know about safestrap, but this is one of the pickiest tablets when it comes to ROMs: One mismatched bootloader, and it becomes an expensive paperweight.
There are several root methods in the General Forum if thats all you want to do.
For Customs ROMs, you will have to first unlock the bootloader, then update to the latest stock ROM, install the right TWRP, then pick the corresponding ROM. Never click wipe data in the bootloader menu.

Yeah, that's my worry, from what I read it seems this is a very 'picky' tablet - and I don't want to blow it up... so maybe I'll just start with rooting it. That way I can at least customize a few things, get rid of bloatware, etc. Hopefully that will help it a bit.

Hmm, I'll give this a try. So is this what you used to get root on your TF300T? It looks like it works for a variety of different machines.
Does this only do root? Or also bootloader unlock so you can run other ROMS? Also, if for whatever reason I had to revert root and reinstall stock, will that work after rooting with this method?

This does ONLY root. Your bootloader is still unlocked, but if you reinstall stock, the root will be removed. If you do choose to unlock your bootloader, it can never be relocked and your warranty is forever void.

OK cool, I'll give it a shot. I'll first start with root and see if I can then optimize the tablet to run a little bit better (and get rid of the bloatware). Then later on I may consider unlocking the bootloader and trying another ROM - especially KitKat.

OK cmendonc2, I like having root, but I think I am about ready to unlock this baby and put on another ROM. I know the risks, and that my warranty will be voided - but I've had this a couple of years so it's not under warranty anyway.
So... I got the ASUS Bootloader unlocker program from the ASUS site; and I have what I believe is the latest TWRP. Is there a good place for instructions on how to unlock this thing and install a new ROM? I know it can be picky so I want to do it right and not brick it.
Also any suggestions on a good ROM? I was thinking CM 11, but I've also heard good things about OmniROM.

OK so you have bootloader 10.6.1.27.5. That's the latest version, so you don't have to worry about upgrading stock. This TWRP (http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407579270) is compatible with the bootloader. Download any 4.4.4 ROM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/transformer-tf300t/development. Then download the latest GAPPS from here: http://goo.gl/ZcwCW9.
After unlocking, extract the TWRP blob and put it on your SD card. type this into Terminal Emulator on your tablet:

Then restart and go into TWRP. Wipe Data and cache, then install your new ROM and gapps.

Thats the Bootloader option "Wipe Data". You see that when u press vol down and power to get the three icons. It is the icon on the far right. Selecting that will result in an expensive paperweight.

OK I got the TWRP but when I extract it there is no .blob file. So what am I missing? There doesn't seem to be much in this .zip file.... I guess to do it the terminal way (seems the easiest to me) I need the blob file. I've googled left and right but I can't find a TWRP 2.7.0.1 blob.
Or would this ROM Manager app work?
UPDATE: Never mind, I figured out how to flash recovery using Fastboot on my Mac! TWRP is now installed and working! Going to try flashing OmniRom and see how that goes. So I think the only question I have left is: When I am flashing a new ROM (i.e. over the old stock) what wipe options in TWRP should I use first? Obviously cache and Dalvik, but which other ones?
