Not all files are shown on PC - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
anyone have this issue. Not all files and folders are shown on PC when I connect my Nexus to PC. By this, I mean files and folders that are creating when I download it from internet on phone and later when I connect phone to PC those files and folders dont exist there. I can view them only on phone.
Why is this happening?

Ok, I found them.
There is this folder, storage-emulated-legacay-Movies-and here are new files.
Real folder is just Movies.
Why is this like that on Nexus?

I don't know the answer but if there is an answer, it will be in all the other threads about this that I've seen. Did you search?

I've seen it before. I get this for a few seconds after mounting but they all turn into folders. On the odd occasion it didn't, a reboot usually fixed it

Mine doesn't get fixed, it stays like that only. every time one or the other file is like that.
Is it a bug with MTP?

Awww, I thought the screen capture would be like in the iPhone where you could just use 2 buttons..

I'm missing something obvious probably.. I've tried ddms and my phone explorer.. both launch and I see the GUI, but neither sees my Sensation.
I do have the SDK (and JDK) installed. WinXP7x64
MyPhoneExplorer has to be installed on both computer & phone. make sure to open the program on both. For the screen shot you need to be plugged in via USB (just choose disk drive when the option pulls up on your phone)
Has anybody noticed that in the libs we have a screenshot lib?
libScreenshotUtil.so to be exact.

It says on htc's site that you are able to take a screenshot with the power key and (menu? Volume? I forget). However, when I tried it, I couldn't get it to work. I just use the sdk.

yep... tho I confess it did take me a while to figure out where that moved.. reminded me I should try ddms again.. still no joy there either.
When I connect the USB cable, I do see "USB debugging connected"
I'd love to be able to take a screenshot to show ya
and well, adb isn't working either.. not sure what is wrong...
EDIT: reinstalled SDK.. no joy.. I can USB connect as disk drive and see the device that way.. so USB is not completely dead..
Try to connect with my phone explorer through wifi. I know both apps have to be open. I sometimes have to click connect more than once on the pc for it to actually connect.
Also make sure on the computer app you have it set to connect to android and not a sony ericsson. That's in the settings.

There is an app called "No Root Screenshot It" on the market. It has a PC program that you download too. The difference is however, with this program you just plug the phone to PC, run the program on PC & then you can make screenshots until your next reboot without having to be wired to the PC.
**This is extremely simular to the temp root process available**
I would recommend temp rooting it, and using a program like drocap2 after root.
Since the process is almost identical it would only make sense to root and give yourself access to better suited programs than "No Root Screenshot It" which is limited in its abilities.
Finally....
What I finally ended up doing, after reinstalling the SDK and the google USB driver (it refused to ever use/install the google usb driver), was to go to HTC and get HTC Sync
http://www.htc.com/www/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=1073&news_id=918
I installed that.. unplugged and re-plugged the phone and Win7 finally did a driver install which did not fail.
Now I can use ADB and ddms, so I can take screenshots that way.
thanks for all the suggestions!
drocap2 works great on temp rooted Sensation

Thank you very much for recommending drocap2 (can be downloaded it via Android Google Market).
I installed it after temp root via Eugene373's posted method.
I did find that I had to disable SU notification setting else the "toast" or "notification bar" gets into the screen shot.
I used shake trigger for the lock screen while other screens, I prefer to use the notification bar trigger. Works great!

U don't need an app or root. The sensation has the screenshot function included in the phone. Just hold down the power button THEN hit the home key. I had previously thought you have to press the 2 together to take the shot....but it's not. That should take your screenshot and saved in your camera shots folder. Hope that helps

[Q] MTP problems

Hey guys, I'm trying to connect my Nexus 5 to my Windows 7 laptop via MTP. However, it never shows up in the "My computer" directory.
I let it install default adb drivers, I've even tried the "naked drivers" from the Nexus 5 forum. It just never shows up. Any help?
MTP Problems with linux
I have run into MTP connection problems while copying my old phones (GNex) contents on to my new Nexus 5 with my laptop running Fedora 19. Loading my old GNex contents on the laptop via MTP was smooth. Then I switched the phones. The Nexus 5 connects as expected and i can access the "sdcard" folder tree in gnome. But during the copying process (> 1000 files, mostly photos, some app-data) the connection constantly resets after 20-100 files. The phone states "process.media stopped" or something similar and the file-copy halted. I needed to unplug and plug the phone back in several times and restart the copying from the beginning. Quite annoying - thank god i rarely need to copy such an amount of files.
Anyone experiencing similar problems?

I had the same problem too, on Windows 7. Here's what fixed it for me:
1. With the phone plugged in to USB, open up Device Manager
2. You should see an "Android" category, so expand that and right-click on whatever is in there (in my case, it said Google Nexus ADB Interface) and click Uninstall
3. In the confirm dialog that pops up, check the "Delete the driver software..." box, then click OK.
4. Once the driver is finished uninstalling, reboot your Nexus 5 while it's still connected to your PC (important that it is still plugged in!)
5. At some point during the phone reboot, Windows should say it's installing new drivers. The Nexus 5 should appear in My Computer shortly.

Raghu: I am also facing the very same problem. Factory Reset also didnt fix the issue.
copying of huge sized files works fine. copying of many files (such as image files) gets stuck after 20 or 100 files.
i faced this issue on a copying data from my Laptop with Windows7 OS to Nexus 5
I am also awaiting a fix for this.

I have a pair of new Nexus 5 phones (yes 2), now I can get the ADB driver if I enable android debugging to work, but I can not for anything get the phones to work in MTP mode so I can move files to them. I've tried everything I can find online. I see Nexus5 with a triangle next to it in device manger and no matter what driver I've tried it always says wrong driver. Nor does it automatically locate and install the proper driver, as it should even following the steps provided in this thread. Thus I have 2 phones and no way to access them at all currently.
I can not believe how much trouble just transferring files is, there is something very wrong with these phones when I have to waste over an hour to copy files to them.

Figured out the issue, it was the fact that MTP requires the media feature pack if on Windows N, once the pack is installed and patched and rebooted (many times) it works.

To quote Paul Gimatti from Shoot 'Em Up, "**** me sideways". I've been pulling my hair out all day today because of this.
A good way to fix MTP driver problems in XP is unzip the Windows Media Player 11 (wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe) installer and run WindowsXP-MSCompPackV1-x86.exe or umdf.exe not sure which one fixes it. Then try update the MTP drivers.
exactly same as my case.

mtp problems

hey guys
I'm having problems with mtp and my new nexus 5. Well actually not particularly the n5, my n4 had it also.
so here's the problem: I start copying one or multiple files and all works well. sometimes the copying finishes. but many times it just stops. no error, no message, nothing. the window of the copy progress just closes. not even a warning sound.
the weird thing is, sometimes it works just well, other times it happens right at the beginning, sometimes near the end, sometimes with big, small, many or single files. there is no pattern when this occurs. just randomly.
when multiple files fail i copy the same stuff again it asks me if i want to replace, i say no and it copys again. for a little bit.
i searched for houres, but nobody had the sames issue or it wasn't solved. I'm on win7 64bit by the way, nexus gets shown correctly in the device manager and yes, i tried reinstalling the driver.
has anybody an answer, explanation, the same problem, fix, or something that might help me?
nobody having the same problem? It's so bad,I can't even copy roms or anything, onli way is using adb push, but that's not really practical.
It could be a problem with the USB lead or usb port have u tried using a WiFi file transfer app for now

yeah i tried airdroid, but the speed was really slow and i can't copy a whole folder, only files. but it works, adb is still a better option though.
I tried different cables and ports, the problem is not the connection I think. it doesnt disconnect i can still see the device and look through files and copy files on the device after it stopped.
could it maybe be an app that is causing this issue?
That's very strange

Did you try uninstalling the drivers via device manager (and tick the Delete driver software for this device) and USBDeview then restarting the system and allowing new drivers to be installed, simply reinstalling drivers over the existing driver tends not to be the best option

I think I read somewhere that there is an issue so what I did was break if down to a few groups. This way if it fails I know where, unmount then mount and try again. I know it's a pain but sometimes it's necessary.

The photo transfer is an issue alot of us have dealt with. I can't either unless I break them down to small folders but thats a PITA.
i downloaded Airdroid instead. Dropped them in via the web. Worked very well
I have run in to this issue with windows, and linux. Even with different phones. Its the way Android handles the internal storage. MTP allows the phone and your computer access the storage at that same time. I tried a few different cables but didn't seem to matter. One trick that I used was to put the phone in to airplane mode on a fresh reboot. Start the copy from the computer and do not touch the phone.

Yep. MTP isn't really a good way to copy stuff to and from.
I personally use AirDroid. I was honestly a little skeptical about using WiFi to transfer files, but AirDroid really changed my opinion on it.
Dropbox would also be another option you could try.
