[Q] Any way to keep an app active? - Sony Smartwatch

I've just purchased an SW2 and I'm so far pretty happy with it. My main reason for getting it is to use it with Runtastic while training. The screensaver/clock activates after a few secounds and this is kind of a pain. While training I just want to peak at the watch to read my heart rate, speed etc. I've tried to google and searched this forum and can't seem to find anything about this. Anyone know if this is at all possible?

Untill runtastic updates its app to support low power mode the only solution is a double click of the button. This will start the last app in use - in your case runtastic.
I also find it impractical, but it is up to runtastic.

I have same problem too, that is why uninstall Runtastic for now.

I think we're almost there. Togheter with for example Polar H7 I get reliable HR readings.
Only two things needs to be done her:
The first is the most important: Make the app say on the screen.
Second, I really would like to be able to build my own screen, so I can see HR, distance and time on the same page.

Tweet @runtastic and ask for low-power mode.

I would also like to see Runtastic support low power mode, definitely worth contacting them to ask.

Google safe search

If classic version used via my android then its ok....but as of the last couple of days google aint allowing android devices to take safesearch off.
The option is there to turn it off...but it goes right back to the moderate option.
Been googling and everyone experiencing same thing.
Any ways around it...apart from browsing in the pants classic mode?
Coz in my opinion, if XDA dont know...then nobody does.

Supprised I cant find this for Android..had it with Apple

I'm looking for an app that will control on a per app basis if autorotate is on or not. I had a jail broken iPhone and was able to do this but no luck finding anything for Android.
Also I am looking for a solution where the screen doesn't turn off ever but simply dims to its lowest setting until touched again. Again something I had with apple.
Tasker may be able to do that for you.

that works great...ty.
One more, CyanogenMod has settings that has quiet hours that allow for manipulation of sound/led/screen based on time so it would turn off all when its night time automatically.
AutomateIt...... its free.

Timeriffic is great for that as well.

Nike+

Nike + running was finally released for android and I can't wait to try it. Any runners here in this section? That would be a great way for us to be competitive and share our scores.
Now I do have a couple questions that I would like to get answered
1. I know he iPhone/iPod used a Nike + piece that u stick in ur shoes, will that work with out phones too??
2. I know for a fact that this also runs with our GPS so I would like to know how bad does it drain the battery and also is it accurate and reliable.
That's all for know and let us runners unite. I found a new track near my house and this would be a great way to learn how long it is.
I've always had a fear of tripping and destroying my phone while running. All I carry while running are keys, Id, a knife, and a flashlight.
GPS will drain your battery pretty fast especially if it needs to pull down any information over a data connection at the same time. The GPS in our phones is good for about 5-15m accuracy.

Yea I would imagine the battery wodnt last to long but long enough for a good run.... have you guys seen the commercial for the Nike + shoes they have with the sensors built in... really cool

Why don't you just Google map it? I live in the city and just map where I run too and then back lol...

No I haven't seen the shoes. I did buy the 2012 airmax for 170 last month. Too bad they didn't come with the sensor which I was hoping they did but its not a big deal. I don't really use maps mt3g, but ill try and ssee how long the trail is using that and compare it to Nike + readings.

Don't forget the music. GPS, data, and music all at once is a killer. I guess u don't have to play music but it makes it easier for me. I just got the zagg smartbuds so I have to test it out

Just took the app out for the first time today, worked pretty well except at first it didn't track me because I turned the screen off... (GPS went to sleep) be sure to use the built in lock on the bottom left when running with the app! GUI looks nice and I don't get why it has such negative reviews on the play store, seems pretty much bug free for me. You don't need a shoe sensor, it's entirely GPS based. Definitely a hard hitter on battery life, but that's expected with the GPS polling for your coordinates all the time and the always on screen.

Thanks for the input, now my question is can u use the sensor if u go out and buy one so u can not use the GPS and maybe save battery life?

I've used RunKeeper a few times and it seemed to do fine. Anyone want to post a comparison between the two?

I don't think so, that's only for Apple. I don't see any option in the app for syncing with the sensor, so my guess would be GPS is the only option.

Yeah I was trying to find it in settings and I couldn't. Ohh well, atleast we have an app so we shouldn't complain.

Finally tried it out..it's pretty accurate even with fair or weak GPS. When the GPS is strong/locked on it outlines your path on the map thought it was cool to see a circle shaping on my phone as I ran. Keeps time and distance correctly (compared distance on phone to distance outlined on sign at beginning of running trail). Overall love the app, just wish GPS was more stable but that's not the app..it's our damnnnnn G2x.
Nice review, what was distance on the sign vs what the Nike app said?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Yea it was it very accurate, off by a meter or foot (whatever the app measures distance by lol) sign was at 67 and the app said 65..PS that was just half of the trail

Sony removed features on the current ROM of the SW2

It seems Sony has removed several usefull functions from the current ROM compared to the ROM presented at the Mobile Asia Exo 2013, for example:
- removed some watch faces (digital face with date)
- removed the Music widget
- removed the automatic brightness adjustment (there was an additional click box at the brightnes setting)
- removed the backlight activation by acceleration sensor.
please see this video. The Sony product manager is actually saying "it takes movements" and she shakes the watch to activate the backlight.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUi1Ai7rPj0
I would expect to have more functions on the new watches and not less functions. If some functions cause higher battery drain, then there should be an option to deactivate them in settings but not completely remove them. I suggest Sony quickly offers a ROM update to inlude these very important features!
that is just weird, i want all those three functions back
I just got mine and I am seriously disappointed that those features are gone.
I bought the watch based on Expo presentations.
Not well, Sony, not well.

Same...
I need all those things.
Why would they drop these things from rom. I just hope that they will be back asap in new firmware....
I wonder if this has something to do with the delay of the Smartwatch 2. I can see the "shake for screen-on" feature might have been removed, for battery related reasons (Also keep in mind, they worked together with Runtastic for app compatibility so chances are constant movement while running was keeping the screen active) but I don't see why they would disable the others.

Even considering the Runtastic collaboration I cannot see a reason for Sony not to put a toggle in the watch's settings. Just like for vibration, for example.
I just got it today from the Sony store.
Phew, thanks for clearing my wonders.
I couldnt place what that little sensor above the screen was and assumed it was for light.
Thank goodness they took those function out, I wouldnt need them.
Totally just need to have a sensor so I could brag to my friends.
Got my SW2 and I'm pissed its missing the stuff you see in videos and screenshot all over the web... Like digital clock with date and music widget. They hype it with feature and then remove them for the launch ? I hate the poor choices of watch faces I hope they give us an update soon or release details to create our own FW

As I noticed last night the Smartwatch 2 app was updated and the firmware of the watch along with it... But I can't see any differences except from the gradual fadeout of the backlight.
Too bad...
I want music widget and shake to light...
I don't know what do with removing such a main features of SW...
I through i buy watch with bug,but now I know that Sony broke our devices removing this options...

Forget music Widget use the poweramp apps for phone and SW

No Google music with poweramp. Great for the music I already have, but play music is becoming real handy.
Just wish Sony would give us some indication they'll update our device with something. 1 month and not even a glimmer.

Yes you can.
But it's not that easy as having a classic widget with the three backward/play-pause/forward buttons.
It's an app where you can pause and change song, but only in the album selected on the phone (meaning that you either listen to the album you've already chosen on the phone over and over, or you'll eventually have to pick up your phone and change album), and the watch doesn't actually give you the list of songs, instead it shows you the cover art of that particular song/album and you can swipe left or right to change song (making it a PITA changing from, say, song 1 to song 45 if you have a compilation).
It works, but it definitely could be waaaaay better.

Recommended Dock App

I'm looking for a useful dock app for the Z1. I'm a bit surprised Sony doesn't have a built-in Dock app. Is there one recommended by anyone here. I think mainly I want a nice alarm clock and some gallery features. I know there are a ton of dock apps, but I was hoping there is something a bit more specialized for Sony phones.
The Z1 comes with an app called Smart Connect (found on most Xperia's) which you use to configure the phone for what you want it to do when connected to a dock.
Edit: This should be in Q&A section.

Check out Timely. Especially with Tasker. I've got it set-up in Tasker whenever I put the phone in the magnetic dock Timely starts and the brightness goes all the way down to 5%. When I take the phone out the brightness goes back to its original state and it takes me back to the homescreen.

Thanks I'll check it out. I tried a few others but I need to use screen filter or something to further lower the brightness. I find it a bit distracting when trying to sleep.
