[Q] External 2 Internal App - General Questions and Answers

I have a china Feitneg H7189 Smartphone with a pretty low memory and decided to give this app a try.
The following are some details of my phone:
Internal space: 0.98GB
Phone Storage: 1.70GB
Sd Card: 16GB
So i partitioned my Sd card creating two primary partitions and one of them ext2 so that i could use with External2Internal App. I downloaded the app and configured it correctly, selected the necessary options such as "At boot" and swapped the sdcard with the memory.
Everything ran smoothly and brilliantly until i got two problems!
1) Every photo i take gets duplicated on the SD Card and on the Phone/internal memory which is very annoying to have a duplicate photo of everything.
2) I recently needed to turn off my phone which i rarely do to change the battery as i have 2 battery's and forgot to charge one of them. When i installed the other fully charged battery and turned on my device all the apps i downloaded where missing? ! Its as if the External2Internal App did not work. so i tried to manually go and arrange the settings again and try to make the swap again, but that did not work. I am going to flash my phone again and re-root it again to have a clean phone.
So basically my question is. Is there a way that i can arrange the problem of external2internal that when i turn off the phone my apps disappear, or do you recommend me using any other application which could help me swap my sd with my phones memory?
Thanks !

[Q] How to properly free space on SD card?

I have an HTC Evo with with a custom rom (CM7 7.0.2). My SD Card became full, so I figured I would delete some nandroid backups. I went ahead and did this (deleted a couple gigs worth). After doing that, my disk usage didn't seem to change - I still had a full SD card. After tinkering and cleaning some more, I still was showing a full SD card. I went ahead and partitioned. After that it still seems as though when I delete things to free up space, my disk usage stats still remain the same. Am I missing something?
Connect phone to computer with usb cable, set mount as disk drive, erase what u don't need, empty recycle bin.
Also try to mount and unmount sdcard to check free space.
LaD
You may need to reboot to get new info. Are you checking in Settings?

I went ahead and partitioned my SD card. This fixed the problem. Thanks for suggestions.
yeah.. i agree
Stiill happening...
I originally posted this thread about 5-6 months ago. After some time has passed by, I am having the same issue again... If I delete items from my SD card, it does not register the freed space. I can reboot, remount, etc. and whether I go to Settings or Titanium or Computer, it shows the same amount of storage being used. The weird part is that my SD card only has a gig on it (not 5). The only way to fix this is to partition... This is really irritating. Any thoughts?
EDIT: Okay, I went ahead and emptied the trash and everything seems to be fine.
You can also try SD Maid to free up space.
I don't know how it works on android, but when you remove stuff in GNU/Linux/unices it can take a minute or two to once again get registered as available storage.
Then just to rule out the obvious, you mentioned that you partitioned the drive, are you sure you are looking at the right drive for the available space? I would recommend going to a terminal and delete the stuff you want gone and then use the df command to see available space. I think it's in BusyBox I am not sure though but it should be. Good luck

Whenever I plug in\out icons disappear then reappear, and on reboot takes 5 mins ...

Why is it whenever I plug in\out phone, the home screen is blank, then 10-20 seconds later all the icons\widgets appear?
Also, related I assume, when I reboot, all the icons come up as the green system standard icon, then the actual icon is populated about 3-5 minutes after. The phone can't seriously be THAT slow can it?
I have a feeling it's based on the apps on the internal vs external SD card, but still, this is 2011, why do they take so long to populate?
Thanks!
This is a question I have had. I have noticed it takes several minutes to populate my Apps in app drawer.

Super annoying when I just want to get loaded back up and run an app and can't because it's not showing in the apps listing yet and on the main screen it's showing as a default system icon. Ugh :-(
Where it gtg to solve my problems?!?!
After unplugging your phone from a PC, the internal and external SD cards do a rescan.
It can take a while, especially depending on the size of your external card.
I suggest moving ALL of your apps back to the phone and off the SD card. This helps a bit. Unless you have a trillion apps, there's not much point putting apps on the SD card anymore. That was for old android phones that had little to no internal storage space for apps.

What's the best way to move them from external to internal with ease? Then how do I tell my phone to install to internal SD by default?

First of all, this isn't a matter of installing to the internal SD as opposed to the external SD. I recommend installing to the 2GB "Internal phone storage".
If you look under
Code:
Settings > SD card and phone storage
you'll see what I mean.
The internal phone storage never gets unmounted.
Go to:
Code:
Settings > Manage applications > On SD card
Click each app and the tap the "Move to phone button"
You could get the app SDMove which may help you manage your apps a bit easier. I'm sure there are dozens of other similar (maybe better) apps, too.
The only apps I install to the SD card are games. I really don't care if a game isn't available the second I unplug my phone from the PC.
I have no clue how to set everything to install to phone by default instead of some apps defaulting to SD. I believe it's something internal to the individual app installer itself.

Cool, I've moved everything over, and now just giving it some time to see if it feels snappier Thanks for the tips!

MIUI reads only the EXT3 partition of my SD Card (NOT Fat32)

I'm using MIUI-1.12.9 with APPS2SD after preparing a 512MB partition for the apps on my 8GB Class2 MicroSD Card. The remaining section I used to store files for flashing, music, data, etc.
Now all of a sudden, my phone gives me 'You may remove the SD Card' error. It shows the MicroSD Card as unavailable and even when I connect vias USB, the computer cannot detect it. I tried connecting the card separately to the computer using an adapter, but no luck. However, it still reads the EXT3 partition where all the apps are stored as all the apps are still available to me.
Any ideas on what could be wrong and how to resolve this? I want to backup all my apps first but I can't do that with out Android recognizing the card
I don't have a solution for you, but just out of curiosity why in the hell do you use APPS2SD on Defy? After you install the ROM there is around 1GB of free space on the internal memory. This is more than enough to install over 100 apps. Moreover you can move some of the to SD-card from the interface (Manage Applications).
I figured, the more space I free up the more breathing space right? Anywhich way it was working great. No noticeable lag even though I use a Class 2 SD Card. When all of a sudden after over a week, it suddenly gives me a notification "You can safely remove your SD Card now." Huh? Even after reboot, it gives me the same message. I took out the card and plugged it directly in and it doesn't read, but the EXT3 partition still works fine!
I could just get a new card and start from scratch. But I'm intrigued by this error! Gotta get to the bottom of this. Didn't get any response on the General forum, so I figured I'd try my luck here at the risk of annoying a few people. Can anyone help with any suggestions?

[Q] Moving an apps user profile data

I've just rooted my Springboard with ICS 4.0.3 and have been trying to move some apps to the SD card because even though
it's reporting I have 5gb open on internal it won't let me update or install anything if my primary storage is set to internal now.
It has to be set with the SD card as primary.
Anyway I have a couple of OBDII apps, Torque Pro and Dashcommand and it seems now that I changed primary storage to SD
when I open the apps they don't see the profiles I already set up for my car.
It doesn't matter if I change the location of the apps are on the tablet or sd. I tried moving them back and forth using the settings in Android
and tried using Link2SD. Still the same thing.
The only way the profiles come back is if I change Androids primary storage back to internal.
Is there any way I can move these apps complete data storage to the sd card with the app? Or make the apps look for the data back on the internal?
I think it can't find it because with it set as sd for primary the app looks for that data on the SD.
Can someone give an idea what to do other than redo the profiles or reinstalling it?

[HOW TO] Format SD as Internal + My Experience With Adopted Storage

Since Motorola updated their devices to Marshmallow 6.0, many have had issues formatting their SD cards as Internal Adopted Storage. I don't know why the issue exists, but trying to format as Internal only results in the process freezing at 30% and eventually timing out. However, thanks to members of the XDA community I have successfully formatted my Kingston 128GB Class 10 SD as Internal. Here's how.
Step One: Format SD to exfat.
Step Two: Set SD as Portable in Android
Step Three: Format SD as Internal in Android.
Step Four: THIS IS IMPORTANT. The process will eventually freeze and timeout. Do not cancel it. Let it timeout. When it does do not fret. Shutdown the phone by holding power and tapping Power Off. It will take a while to fully shut down. The time it takes for the process to freeze and the time it takes the phone to shut down seems to depend on the size of the SD Card. My 128GB card took about 6 minutes to timeout and about 12 minutes to shut down. DO NOT FORCE SHUTDOWN*. Let the phone shut down on its own. When it does, boot the phone back up and the SD will be set to Adopted Internal Storage.
*FORCE SHUTDOWN is accomplished by holding the power button until the phone hard restarts.
Now that is out of the way, let me tell you about my experience using Adopted Storage mode. I'm not very happy and I do not recommend doing this. It's a great feature to have for phones with limited Internal eMMC Storage like 8GB or 16GB however there are drawbacks. Not the least of which being that apps take much longer to launch and run tasks as SD cards are much slower than eMMC flash Storage. I've also noticed an increase in battery drain as the phone is now reading and writing to SD when it would normally access onboard eMMC in portable mode. Long story short, it definitely expands the amount of storage you have for apps and app/game data, however that benefit comes at the cost of slower performance and less battery life. With a phone like the X Play battery life may be something you would be willing to sacrifice however I'm sure, like me, you'd want to make sure you are squeezing out every bit of performance out of that SnapDragon 615 so performance may not be something you'd be willing to give up for more app data storage. I know I'm not
I'll be going back to Portable Storage as soon as I can.
I am having a weird issue with my 64gb SD card. I format as portable storage and does it just fine. But any time I reboot I have to format again? So, needless to say, I'm afraid to put anything on there because I'll have to format it again. I am on the newest version of blisspop on a moto g2014. Any help would be great.
Has anyone bench marked SD performance?
I can't believe this worked!?! Been trying to get internal formatting working on my Moto G 4G for so long, thank you so much!
works
this worked on my S4 running 6.0.1
Excellent post and I came across that sequence myself by trying all sorts. One question though... Having configured it as adopted internal storage, while I have successfully transferred one App's data to the additional memory (as a test) the Storage Analyser app does not recognise it by default (though you can find the path to it and manually configure it) and ES File Explorer just doesn't at all.
Did you see similar problems? So far, because of the partial nature of the fix, I haven't dared run with it properly using the SD card.
[Edit: Running a Moto G 2nd Gen 8Gb with a 64Gb Sandisk Ultra.]
[Second Edit: Answered my own question with further research... Following a suggestion elsewhere I bit the bullet and went to Settings > Storage & USB > [Tap card] > [Tap Menu] > Move Data now it's all set 100% including ES File Explorer etc. Phew! ]
After formatting to exfat my phone read it as corrupted, is that normal?
[NEED HELP]
Hi Everyone,
I have adopted storage related problem. I mounted a Strontium 64 GB Class 10 on my unrooted Moto X Style/Pure and formatted it as internal storage. Aside from the warning, that the card might be slower, everything worked out fine, and it was reflecting and working as internal storage for 10 days (8.6GB of the card was being utilized for storage).
But one fine day, the card stopped working - all the previous data had disappeared. The card worked fine, and showed 8.6 GB as utilitzed, but to files to show for it. As we know the card is formatted as ext4 and content is encrypted using a AES 128-bit key.
According to this guide, the key is located in the data partition of the device. Now unless there is a way to even just read the key without rooting the device, I'm stuck in a vicious cycle - I can't access they key without rooting, and if I root, it'll wipe the phone (along with the key).
Please help! Really appreciate any tips, thanks in advance!
My Moto Z is dead and wont detect as QUSB, can you help me repair it ?
I got the same thing. I continued formatting in the phone and worked fine after you follow the above procedure
