Whenever I plug in\out icons disappear then reappear, and on reboot takes 5 mins ... - Samsung Infuse 4G

Why is it whenever I plug in\out phone, the home screen is blank, then 10-20 seconds later all the icons\widgets appear?
Also, related I assume, when I reboot, all the icons come up as the green system standard icon, then the actual icon is populated about 3-5 minutes after. The phone can't seriously be THAT slow can it?
I have a feeling it's based on the apps on the internal vs external SD card, but still, this is 2011, why do they take so long to populate?
Thanks!

This is a question I have had. I have noticed it takes several minutes to populate my Apps in app drawer.

Super annoying when I just want to get loaded back up and run an app and can't because it's not showing in the apps listing yet and on the main screen it's showing as a default system icon. Ugh :-(
Where it gtg to solve my problems?!?!

After unplugging your phone from a PC, the internal and external SD cards do a rescan.
It can take a while, especially depending on the size of your external card.
I suggest moving ALL of your apps back to the phone and off the SD card. This helps a bit. Unless you have a trillion apps, there's not much point putting apps on the SD card anymore. That was for old android phones that had little to no internal storage space for apps.

What's the best way to move them from external to internal with ease? Then how do I tell my phone to install to internal SD by default?

First of all, this isn't a matter of installing to the internal SD as opposed to the external SD. I recommend installing to the 2GB "Internal phone storage".
If you look under
Code:
Settings > SD card and phone storage
you'll see what I mean.
The internal phone storage never gets unmounted.
Go to:
Code:
Settings > Manage applications > On SD card
Click each app and the tap the "Move to phone button"
You could get the app SDMove which may help you manage your apps a bit easier. I'm sure there are dozens of other similar (maybe better) apps, too.
The only apps I install to the SD card are games. I really don't care if a game isn't available the second I unplug my phone from the PC.
I have no clue how to set everything to install to phone by default instead of some apps defaulting to SD. I believe it's something internal to the individual app installer itself.

[Q] How to properly free space on SD card?

I have an HTC Evo with with a custom rom (CM7 7.0.2). My SD Card became full, so I figured I would delete some nandroid backups. I went ahead and did this (deleted a couple gigs worth). After doing that, my disk usage didn't seem to change - I still had a full SD card. After tinkering and cleaning some more, I still was showing a full SD card. I went ahead and partitioned. After that it still seems as though when I delete things to free up space, my disk usage stats still remain the same. Am I missing something?
Connect phone to computer with usb cable, set mount as disk drive, erase what u don't need, empty recycle bin.
Also try to mount and unmount sdcard to check free space.
LaD
You may need to reboot to get new info. Are you checking in Settings?

I went ahead and partitioned my SD card. This fixed the problem. Thanks for suggestions.
yeah.. i agree
Stiill happening...
I originally posted this thread about 5-6 months ago. After some time has passed by, I am having the same issue again... If I delete items from my SD card, it does not register the freed space. I can reboot, remount, etc. and whether I go to Settings or Titanium or Computer, it shows the same amount of storage being used. The weird part is that my SD card only has a gig on it (not 5). The only way to fix this is to partition... This is really irritating. Any thoughts?
EDIT: Okay, I went ahead and emptied the trash and everything seems to be fine.
You can also try SD Maid to free up space.
I don't know how it works on android, but when you remove stuff in GNU/Linux/unices it can take a minute or two to once again get registered as available storage.
Then just to rule out the obvious, you mentioned that you partitioned the drive, are you sure you are looking at the right drive for the available space? I would recommend going to a terminal and delete the stuff you want gone and then use the df command to see available space. I think it's in BusyBox I am not sure though but it should be. Good luck

Can't access the SD card via usb.

At first it actually worked and I got a few apks loaded up, but now it absolutely won't cooperate and I have been wrestling with this all night. Getting various errors, basically the PC just won't recognize either the phone or the SD card. Can anyone help me out here?

don't move apps to the sdcard.
uninstall whatever apps you moved to sdcard, reboot, reinstall them and keep them in internal memory.
I didn't move any apps to my SD card. I installed them from it. They were apk files. Installed in internal memory.

Known issue. Mine will also just stop seeing the SD card randomly. I'll know it when the phone rings and the ringer is some default garbage instead of the ringer I had assigned from the SD card.
I've yet to see any actual working solution. Simply rebooting the phone will usually fix it for awhile. Will probably have to wait for a Moto update.
what class is the sdcard?
people have been having issues with class 10 cards (although i have not).
try backing up everything on the sdcard, go to settings > storage and format the sdcard using the phone. move your stuff back onto the card and see if the problem continues.

Been there done that. Mine is a class 4 Sandisk 16GB.
Make sure you don't have any apps on your SD card. When you plug in your USB cord in it unmounts the SD card. If you have any apps on the card that are running is when you run into the problems being described as the phone is trying to unmount the card but can't due to the apps running.
Card is the stock 2gb, don't know what class.
No apps running from the card. Tried rebooting the phone a few times, turning USB debugging on and off, using different connection modes... No dice.
Def keep USB debugging on. When you plug your phone in does the USB icon show up in the notification bar?
Yeah, it does. And it charges.
OK grab the USB icon and pull it down just like a notification. You should see either 3 or 4 options, charge only, windows media share, etc. Sounds like you have charge only picked. Choose the media or data one and hopefully that will get you squared away

If u pull the card you should see a number on it in a tiny circle, the number in that circle indicates what class the card is. I had this problem once, after I rooted. Did factory reset and its been all good since....this was 2 weeks ago.

I've tried all the USB connection options multiple times.
I had to uninstall moto drivers and then reinstall them on my pc. All was good after that.
Also done that multiple times.
For now I'm just using my ghetto rigged card reader - digital camera and micro sd-sd adapter. Hahahha.
Probably just going to have to wait for an update and some more moto support for this phone on the pc side. Speaking of updates, this phone's been out for a month. Getting to be about time we at least saw a few bug fixes.
I'm sure you did a battery pull. I just went through this with my device, and that fixed the issue...
Actually, I didn't.
It seems that if there are any apps installed on the sdcard, it can't be accessed via usb.
Mine actually just started doing this as well. It was working fine, and now I cannot get it to mount as a mass storage drive on several different computers. I had three apps installed on the card, all games. I uninstalled all of them and still no mass storage.
So I've been making sure no apps get installed on my sd, or even any app databases because sometimes an app will install internally, but put its database on the sd. So none of that! I enjoyed a few days of being able to use usb mass storage, then a couple days ago it became inaccessible again. I checked for apps that may have slipped something onto the sd but didn't find anything noteworthy.
I left the issue alone, praying for a fix materialize from the etherworld, when something interesting happened today. I unmounted the sd and installed a new app, and a notification came up saying the app could be moved to the sd; but the notification used a wierd sound to alert me, presumably because it couldn't find the default audio file on the unmounted sd. So I then wen't to settings/sounds...oops... android crashed and rebooted with the sd card mounted; and I have access to usb mass storage again. Prayer answered?

[Q] External 2 Internal App

I have a china Feitneg H7189 Smartphone with a pretty low memory and decided to give this app a try.
The following are some details of my phone:
Internal space: 0.98GB
Phone Storage: 1.70GB
Sd Card: 16GB
So i partitioned my Sd card creating two primary partitions and one of them ext2 so that i could use with External2Internal App. I downloaded the app and configured it correctly, selected the necessary options such as "At boot" and swapped the sdcard with the memory.
Everything ran smoothly and brilliantly until i got two problems!
1) Every photo i take gets duplicated on the SD Card and on the Phone/internal memory which is very annoying to have a duplicate photo of everything.
2) I recently needed to turn off my phone which i rarely do to change the battery as i have 2 battery's and forgot to charge one of them. When i installed the other fully charged battery and turned on my device all the apps i downloaded where missing? ! Its as if the External2Internal App did not work. so i tried to manually go and arrange the settings again and try to make the swap again, but that did not work. I am going to flash my phone again and re-root it again to have a clean phone.
So basically my question is. Is there a way that i can arrange the problem of external2internal that when i turn off the phone my apps disappear, or do you recommend me using any other application which could help me swap my sd with my phones memory?
Thanks !

[Q] RAZR Maxx HD Memory in 4.4.2

I went into developer options after doing the upgrade and in Process Control I'm seeing either (at different times) "Device Memory is Currently Low" or "Device Memory is Currently Critical." I'm completely illiterate about these things, but I assume that this isn't what I want. How bad is it, and what might I do about it?

maybe all your space is being taken up by pictures and videos check by going to settings then go to storage to see what is taking up all the space if it is pictures and videos buy an sd card and move them all to the sd card and set the default place for the camera to save to the sd card.

Alas, that's not it. I've got an SD card, and internal storage has over 19GB free. Like I said, I'm illiterate, but I don't think that the flash storage where you'd potentially have things like media files has anything to do with available RAM.

that's weird 19gb is fine maybe its one of those cloud apps that is almost full not the phone it self take a screenshot of the message to do this power + vol down
It's not referring to storage but to memory/ram. Mine says that sometimes, sometimes it says "Device memory is currently moderate". If you aren't experiencing a device slowdown then don't worry about it. If you are worried about it then perhaps take a look at the app listing on that screen and if there are apps you are not using and don't require until YOU start them then try the Greenify app. or check out this thread: on Reddit

Moto G3 won't save pictures even with new SD Card.

Hello there, first poster in XDA here. Let me tell you my issue that's been driving me crazy for the past weeks.
I've been using a Motorola Moto G3 for about two years now, running Marshmellow, with a Toshiba 32GB SD Card formatted as internal storage. My problem started a few weeks ago, when I tried to backup my Whatsapp files from internal storage to the SD Card part, and I think something went wrong in the process, since it did, indeed, move my files, but, since then the SD Card would unmount now and then, by its own accord.
I assumed my SD Card went corrupt and tried to save most of my data, but, as I said, it would unmount itself, lasting each time less and less time mounted until, finally, my phone stopped recognizing it. I played along, not being able to save anything else on the phone, since I had no more free space.
The thing is, yesterday I bought a new SD Card since I finally discovered my old one was corrupted, and I formatted this new one as internal storage as well, but now I still can't save save pictures, whether I download them or try to make a screencap. I can still download new apps, but it's quite a pain.
Anyone know how could I fix this?
Thanks in advance
EDIT:
Oh, and to list things I've already tried:
- Tried updating Android version
- Tried shutting down and rebooting a few times
- Tried wiping out data from "External Storage" and "Media Storage" in the Apps section then rebooting
I don't think you understand "adopted storage"... once you make a card adopted (internal) storage, you don't have any external storage, or an sd card from an apps point of view.

Yeah, I know. However, when I go to Settings->Storage, it still recognizes the SD Card. I would show you some screenshots, but then again, I can't save pictures. The thing is. I thought I couldn't download stuff because my old SD card was corrupted, but even with the new one, I still can't manage to get it done.

That's ok, I know what it a looks like.
Did you perform the migration of data in the adoption phase? If not, there should be an option in the 3-dot menu on the storage page.

The thing is, as soon as I moved the files, the SD card started unmounting itself from time to time. I succesfully moved my Whatsapp files, but everything went downhill from there. I don't know if that's what you were asking...

You need a different/better microSD card if that is occurring.
And no, migrate data is part of the adoption process and if it didn't complete then the card isn't being used properly. Once the card is adopted you should not be selecting internal or external storage or moving things, that defeats the purpose of adopted storage.
The reality is adopted storage is garbage, it doesn't work quite as well as we all hoped... Which is why many manufacturers disable it, and most experienced users don't recommend it.
