How is the real charging speed? - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

One reasons that I am considering the Note PRO 12.2 is the possible faster charging speed. If I watch videos and/or browse the web non-stop while charging the device, will it run out of power? I read that for the 10.1 2014, consumption of electric power is faster than charging. Thanks.

The charge speed is faster than the uncharge speed on the wifi model. You might wanna take a look at the lte model though if charge time is important to you because that model has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset. The Snapdragon 800 has QuickCharge 2.0 on board. Depending on the adapter it should charge very fast.

In case of buying, I will buy the LTE version. Thanks.

When I got mine yesterday (wifi) it was at 55%. I plugged it in and started to set everything up, basically restoring from my google account, syncing corp mail, etc. It was fully loaded down with tasks. After an hour or so the battery fluctuated between 54%-56% the whole time. It wasn't until I let it go to sleep that it finally started really charging.

I can't give you metrics because I haven't measured them yet, but it definitely charges faster than it drains, so if you have it plugged in you won't take it to zero even under heavy load.
I did notice something strange however, I first tried charging it with the charger of my Note 2 phone (5v, 2A) and it charged until 90%, then got stuck there. Wouldn't go past 90%.
I then used the charger that came with the Note (visually identical to the Note 2 one) and it progressed to 100%. The difference is that the new one is 5.3v/2A. As far as I can see, the thing charges pretty fast even with the huge battery, but I'm already used to waiting a bit because of the Note 2 (3100 or 3200 mAh).

Using the stock charger with 3.2a adapter it charges slowly even with the screen on. With the screen off it charges fast - the screen is the main power draw.

I got mine last Friday and I only charged once . Came with 40%, used it down to 17% then let it charge for like 3 or 4 hours. It's charging about the same speed as Note 10.1 (SLOWLY). It's nice but haven't had that much time to fool around with it since Friday. It's freaking expensive and that's the thing I keep thinking about 750 (32g) + 60 for a 64g Samsung Msd card. Now I got to find a case and the only ones I seen so far are the one with the BT keyboard for 100 and a Samsung case for 69.00. None of the other cases online are in stock yet.. I been trying to wait but im afraid I will drop it
It only seems slightly faster then my 10.1 (CY 11) on it but I know for video its much sharper screen.

It charges faster than the Nexus 10 provided it has bigger battery. It took around 4 hours to charge to 100% starting with 20% remaining battery. My Nexus 10 needed at least 6 hours to charge full in that situation. However, on the other side I used the device to watch a 1080p video (around 90 minutes) with WiFi on and it reduced from 55% to around 25% which is I think too much.

My batt did good the first day now it seems like it is draining very fast. I am looking into what is making it do this. I can't wait for CWM and custom Roms

I donno...between 3 and 3.5 hours roughly. Pretty fast.
I'm using stock charger that came with phone.
No light indicator to indicate charging or fully charged? I've been charging via USB and it gets to 94%, so fully charged and stops charging. That's as high as it will get...
About to go work out, going to put it on wall charger and see what happens!!
Anyone else have this problem or just me because of the usb charge?
Mine only goes upto 94% br well with the wall charger.
Apparently It's a safety feature
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Mine goes to 96% typically and I've once seen it reach 97%, it's a bug, not a safety feature. As a safety feature, to prevent it from overcharging, it's supposed to charge up to 100% then stop charging until it reaches a safety level such as 95% then resume charging again. This is just a bug in the system.
Takes me just over 3 1/2 hours from dead to fully charged.
Mine goes up to 98%. Once in a while it will go up to 99%.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
1500mAh/700mA = 2.1h, i.e. less than 2h.
It will never (ever) reach 100% if your charger and phone is working correctly. It IS a safety feature. Eventhough the phone is connected to the charger, it still uses battery to run. The charger stops charging when it gets close to 100% and charges some more when it's safe to do so. Meanwhile the phone uses the battery to stay alive and if you unplug it between theese charging cycles it will be anything between ~93 and ~99%.
It seems like forever honestly with this phone. My Evo would charge in about an hour and a half. This phone takes easily 3.5 hours if not more.
For some reason Samsung chargers take longer to charge a phone.
If I use my HTC charger the phone charges a lot quicker
I also read this somewhere on another site

HTC chargers are typically 1000mah and samsung chargers are 700mah... So there's the difference.
what is up with this phone i went to sprint got a new battery not knowing this was an issue of not getting to 100%. i came from att and having the htc inspire kinda like the evo i guess it would fully charge in about an hour and last me about 12 hrs of actual use. the nexus s takes about 3 hours to fully charge and i get about 5 hours with 0% brightness im thinking about going back and returning the phone.

While I do not what is draining your battery so quickly, the reason for the charge time is stated in the post above yours. The charger that came with the Nexus S is a 700mAh charger, while many others (notably HTC's) use the full 1000mAh charge possible on a MicroUSB line. More power over the same amount of time = faster charging.

hi there
is any one have my problem?
i buy a nexus s in yesterday
but the battry cant hold charge for atleast 1 day!!
it usage is about 1 - 2 % charge in every houre!
i do workinig for example 10 minutes with the phone for setting ant etc .and then i saw the 4-6 % of battry charge go down!
or sometimes the phone is puting on standby for 30-40 mintunes
with no sms or calls, but its use about 6 % of battry chage!!!!!
and for wifi and games its even faster that it!
finally for a normal usage like 10-20 sms ,15 min call ,30 min browsing phone menues and apps and 20 web,
its going to be full empty!
and its meaning it cant keep charging for atleast 1 day!
i have the SLCD one ofcourse! => I9023 XXKD1
i couldnt find any superamoled version in my country to buy,
do you think its for the slcd screen?
i didnt think that its may cause this charging resaults for me just for the screen type!!!
my charging time is about 1.5 - 2 houres to full charge, that its not acceptable for me too!
i had a diamond2 with that poor battry.but i didnt think so the NS could be the same and even worst!
i upgrated my device to gingerbread officaly, from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 by the phone, but its still no differance!
it the back of the battry i can see the 1500MA Lion , but the battry control app i my NS shows maximun 1200 MA power!?!!
can it be the truth?
do u think its battry power completly depended to rom and radio version to fix?
if that is,can any one intreduce me a good and fast and bugless rom and radio version?
thanks a lot :roze

[Q] Why Sensation take very long to recharge the battery...

Hi,
I didn't know what happened.. what My Sensation now take about 6 to 7 hours to complete from 15% to 100% while before i just took 3 hours to complete the charging...
Edit: I knew the reason .. I used Nokia charger and it take more time (double) than the Original HTC charger.. i think mainly because of the charger...
possibly bad hardware, or a ****ty battery, i get full charge from 2% to 100% in about 3 hrs
I had the same problem, sometimes it goes fast, other times it just takes ages, aslo got the non responsive touch screen issue oh, and gps won't fix, it cant find more than 5 sattelites, hurray!
I'm getting this on mains charging now also.
Not sure why - has anyone tried a "power off" charge versus a "power on" charge?
I always charge my phone power off. light to moderate use I get at least a day before charging.
Maybe that's firmware dependent. Some ppl noticed the same but after updating from 1.28.xxx.x to 1.35.xxx.x battery performance, battery monitor behavio(u)r and charging time are improved as well as other bugs fixed. But it's not officially released yet.
HTH
I'm using the 1.35.401 update, and still have this problem, aswell as bad gps reception, high battery drain, and long charge time.
im rocking 1.29.531.2 stock for my fone, and no problems with the battery at all, quick charges, and good to great battery life.
as for the GPS, i think everyone is having that issue right now, the most i ever got was on a completely clear day, 7 satellites :/
my HD2 after running the canada fix thru CWM got a minimum of 12 or a clear day
lucky for me i dont use the GPS that often, if ever
EDIT: also, im using the stock charger about 3 out of 4 of my charges, the rest are from my lappy via usb
It's slow at charging. Get the wall charger from tmobile or use a Samsung galaxy s charger. The galaxy s charger will charge it way faster than the stock htc charger.

its actually a fact, most ppl who have used Li-Ion for at least the past decade know that if you want the best performance, dont let it drop below 15-20% before charging, for optimum batter life and sustainablilty.
same thing goes for if you arent going to use the device for a long time (min. 1 month) charge it to around 50%, then decomission, and the battery will "keep" very well
EDIT: because flamers love their link complaints http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries
with 1.35 chargin is much faster. really it's already available ota for unbranded, branded phone owners need to w8 for their carrier ... :\

It charges faster because it charges faster. Lol
Idk why it does, but it does. It's the same for my hd2. A friend gave me the galaxy charger for a extra. I tried the charget and it just charged faster for my hd2. So when I got my sensation and saw that the stock charger was slow like the hd2, I tried the galaxy one, sure enough, it was faster too.
Thanks for your informations...
Just got 1.35.163.1
Some people says that improve the charging time.
I will report this tomorrow.
And i will test with sgs charger too!
I have a US version stock. As you know we have no updates yet and no s-off. My phone charges fast sometimes, other times it can be on the wall charger for 6+ hours and not be fully charged. I think its a software issue honestly.
Yes as said earlier recharge when it's at 20% the battery will hold much longer the batteryuniversity is my source too Also spare batteries should be kept at 50% and kept in the refrigerator when not in use.
Hmm the new update didn't do much for charge time for me though.
the charger that comes with the sensation is ~1A which is kinda slow when the phone is on, not as bad as others with only 500mA usb... you should be able to find a usb that give a higher A output and still retain the usb plug (ive seen 1.5A before cant remember where)... failing that if your ingenious you can splice through a different charger and make your own.. could achieve 2A+ but your could burn ya house down or blow your battery up in the process

Charging time

I find this tablets charging time so annoying I'm coming from a zoom with charged so fast compared to my note
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Not trying to sound mean, but what's the point to the thread? Is it a question asking how to improve charging times?
BTW, I have a Xoom and I think it's just that it charges a lot faster due to the special charging port.
It will charge much faster if you connect it to 220 volt power sources, rather than 110.
Well I wanted to point out that it is an annoying factor for people to think about when considering buying the tablet but I understand your point

up to 90% it seems pretty decent. it's that last 10 that seems to take forever. I think the last time I charged it I went from 30 to 90 in 2hrs then the last 10 took another hour.
I ran my note into the ground today and then started a stop watch to see how long it would take to fully charge it. 4.5 hours!!!!
Mine takes way too long to charge also!!
Charging a battery faster leads to more heat which reduces the life of the battery. A very high capacity battery will take longer to charge, all else being equal.
They could have sped up charging by using a non-standard supply voltage/current from the charging cable (like ASUS Transformers, which uses 15v instead of 5v) and thus charging the battery faster. But it would have just got a bit hotter which is not good for the battery.
The battery stores many times more energy than a smartphone battery, yet it only takes about twice as long to charge. I think that's pretty decent.
Given the battery's capacity (7000+mah) and the charge rate (around 2A) I'd say the charge time is right around what I'd expect.
I found the charge a bit slow aswell, but the battery last so long that it balances things out for me, i was disapointed at first until i realised how well the battery performs, regardless what apps i used.
Yeah, Im not too worried about the 4.5hour charging time, my battery lasts me a few days and I can always plug it in before bed and wake up to a fully charged tablet.
I use my tablet during the day and before I go to bed I put it on charge and it's full in the morning. Do some people use their tablet so much in the morning it's out of juice by the afternoon? Give your fingers a rest. My battery lasts me usually all day. Even with looking at YouTube etc.

Slow charging after last firmware update
When I went to bed last night I had 19% power left. Like I normally do, connected my Note to charge overnight. Woke up 7 hours later to find that it had only charged up to 49%. Within 5 hours from a depleted battery, I usually have a full charge. Any thoughts as to why this is the case?

It sounds like you may have charged with your note 10.1 turned off.
The note 10.1 like many other tablets needs the tablet to be on while charging so the tablet can regular the rate of charge.
My Note 10.1 charges much faster turned on with WiFi, Sync and GPS disabled.
Mine goes from 25% to 100% in about 3.5 hrs.
from 90% to 100% takes about 45 minutes.

So do I (hello, fellow convert! ) and the real reason the Xoom charges faster isn't the port, it's 'cause the charger is 18W and is of a higher voltage (12v/1.5A vs. our 5v/2.1A). (I guess it could be argued that they had to go to a different port to not violate the PDMI spec the Samsung units use, though.)

You're being funny, I hope - our charger (just like any other charger released in the last decade) is a Universal Charger (100-240V/50-60Hz) so in any case the output voltage and current is the same no matter where in the world you plug it in.

That's not really true, though, as our tablet is in fact on when you're charging it- if you tap the power button when it's charging in the "off" state, you'll see that battery animation, and that's in fact a fully-running kernel but instead of running "Android" it's a special run mode more like a Recovery. The kernel is in fact running and alive.
FWIW my tablet charges far faster when off vs on, as there's far less simultaneous drain on the battery. Not sure what's going on with yours.

I hadn't completely shutdown my tablet since the update last week. I did so yesterday and now charging times seem to be back to normal. Something new from the update I noticed, when batery gets somewhere around 20% left, the battery indicator changes from green to yellow.
My tablet gets about 10 hours on battery, or more if im just reading the web. The most intensive app I run is candy crush and s-note.
That being said it seems to charge quickly, in about 3 hours. My complaint is the short charging cable it shipped with.

Don't have that problem, Only goit 3hours sleep last night and plugged in note before going to bed. Fully charged from 46% in 3 hours.... You might have a problem with your charger/cable/charging port....
If you have an S2,S3 or Note 2, or an old Gtab, the charger works for your note so you can check where the problem is....
Only charging issue I have is when I use different charger other than the original one then its slow..if I use the original one its fast

The OEM charger supplies 2 Amp hours of current to the battery. If the battery takes any more than 3.5 hours to charge the 7Ahr battery then there is something wrong with the tab or the charger.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
Note takes around 5 hours to do a recharge, but if you have extention USB cable of a after market USB connector for longer length it will increase the charging time
Max charging time for me with OEM is about 3.5 hours with power saving mode on and screen off, or around 2.5-3 with the tablet OFF. Thats with a 6-9% battery remaining. Anything much more means something is eating your battery in the background while you are charging.. make sure you use OEM charger.
my charger was slow charging right from the box. They gave me a new one the next day and everything is fine now.
Thats odd. I never had any charging problems when i upgraded to jellybean. Have you compared your unit with someone who also has a note 10.1?
I picked mine up on Thursday and charged it to 100% with the supplied charger and cable, installed the 4.1 system update and used it throughout the following day watching video and general playing. I had it plugged in whilst I was using it and noticed it discharging, odd I thought as it should at least have maintained its charge but after my battery level dropped to 19% on that evening I turned it off completely and left it overnight, this morning it had only charged a further 20%. It has to be a firmware issue as its the only thing thats changed since I first charged it fully without any issues (first charge on 4.0 took approx 3 hours from unboxing).
I also have the same problem. Any solution to this?

No. Its still doesn't charge faster. Same result.
Its going back to Samsung today.
That sounds screwy... I have mine on all the time, plug into the wall and about 3 - 5 hours later its fully charged...
Might be the wall charger is the problem, Samsung may have a batch of faulty chargers....
Doubt its the charger. Because its now 100% full but still says charging, not charged like on 4.0.4.
Even my battery stats don't reset anymore.
In my opinion something happened in this OTA. Been viewing many 10.1 forums for a while now and never read anything about charging issues. Since the update, its an issue unless all of us just happened to either have faulty chargers at the same time or we all downloaded the same app at the same time which is the source of the issue. Im gonna say its not neither of those because what did happen, is we all downloaded an OTA at the same time and have since had this issue.
One thing I have noticed that works a little better for me is to do a reboot right before I throw it o the charger. I dont unlock it or anything, just keep it on the charger.
Im thinking of rooting over the weekend and trying a few different ROMs to see what happens.
Sent from my GT-N8013 using Tapatalk 2
Just a thought, but lots of people are complaining about this and lots of people are not experiencing a slow charge.
The update has been rolled out in many countries now - so what country are you all in and what sort of mains power do you have? Maybe it's something related to that
Shouldn't matter as the charger is the one in charge of voltage to the Note.
You can use a charger from America in Australia, UK or Europe (with an adaptor of course) and it should charge your note the same everywhere.
I have tested this by using a stepdown transformer to charge my note at 110 volts as well as the normal 240volts we use here in Australia. No difference.
I have an overseas model Note and need an adaptor to connect to the Oz mains. I also have another note bought here in Australia and it works fine using either Australian or overseas charger too at either 110V or 240V...

S2 charging time - why so slow?

Everybody knows first smartwatch problem is battery. Having to charge it daily is like a nightmare.
But there is anything still worst? Yes, if you have the S2 you know it: the ****ing slow charge!
I am still surprised, and cannot undertand, how can it be. Ig the battery capacity is less than 300mah, and the charger is 700mah/h, why it takes so long to get it charged?
I think Samsung had a big error in this issue.
My previous Pebble Time battery lasts for 5/6 days, and what was still better is that in 30 minutes you have battery full.
You can fail in one of the two factors (battery duration or time to charge), but not in both. And Samsung did it.
Mine takes ~ 2hrs to full charge.
Agree, too slow.
I shut down the watch for faster recharge, but haven't used a stopwatch so far. I have to reload every second night and i am fine with it
Mine charges pretty fast, less than a hour and it is full. But another thing you have to look at is this is wireless charging which charges slower than regular charging. No gold contact points or anything. FYI I have the 3g version, don't know if that makes a difference or not.
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
Mine takes around 2 hours too. It's true that QI normally is slower than cable, but it depends also in the power of the chargues. Normal QI chargers are 1000mah and they charge batteries 10x bigger en same time... and s2 charger is less than half the power!
So the problem is not the charger...
Enviado desde mi SM-G928F mediante Tapatalk
Sure you can apply a higher current to charge, but most battery with that size just cannot affort that high current and will die very soon, so many will limit the current. There exist small battery can recharge at high current, just not many using it.

You can fail in one of the two factors (battery duration or time to charge), but not in both. And Samsung did it.

Pebble Time battery size is only 150mah and charges via a wired connection. No one is failing anything.
Wireless charging has losses maybe around 30-50%. So that 700mA of input from the charger will only give around 350-490mA of output. Plus the fact that we charge it while the watch is powered on will also be another factor to slow down the charging.
Also, pebble doesn't give you plenty of options to do so lesser user interface means lesser battery drainage, not like with the s2, you can do plenty of stuff which will result in you always touching and using the watch.
As for me, i've personally tested the watch. At minimal usage (maybe just the same usage I do when I was using a pebble) i got 5 straight days without charging. And I fully charge it at 1.5 to 2hrs.
Ps. Sorry for bad english.

2hrs here. Make sure you use the supplied cable, I find if I use my s6 one with my Gear or Tab S it is slower ...

FYI I have the 3g version, don't know if that makes a difference or not.

It may. The 3G version uses a Qualcomm SoC and it may support QuickCharge. I haven't timed my 3G but I'd guess it charges in an hour-ish. I also keep it off when charging.
