Hi,
I didn't know what happened.. what My Sensation now take about 6 to 7 hours to complete from 15% to 100% while before i just took 3 hours to complete the charging...
Edit: I knew the reason .. I used Nokia charger and it take more time (double) than the Original HTC charger.. i think mainly because of the charger...
possibly bad hardware, or a ****ty battery, i get full charge from 2% to 100% in about 3 hrs
I had the same problem, sometimes it goes fast, other times it just takes ages, aslo got the non responsive touch screen issue oh, and gps won't fix, it cant find more than 5 sattelites, hurray!
I'm getting this on mains charging now also.
Not sure why - has anyone tried a "power off" charge versus a "power on" charge?
I always charge my phone power off. light to moderate use I get at least a day before charging.
Maybe that's firmware dependent. Some ppl noticed the same but after updating from 1.28.xxx.x to 1.35.xxx.x battery performance, battery monitor behavio(u)r and charging time are improved as well as other bugs fixed. But it's not officially released yet.
HTH
I'm using the 1.35.401 update, and still have this problem, aswell as bad gps reception, high battery drain, and long charge time.
im rocking 1.29.531.2 stock for my fone, and no problems with the battery at all, quick charges, and good to great battery life.
as for the GPS, i think everyone is having that issue right now, the most i ever got was on a completely clear day, 7 satellites :/
my HD2 after running the canada fix thru CWM got a minimum of 12 or a clear day
lucky for me i dont use the GPS that often, if ever
EDIT: also, im using the stock charger about 3 out of 4 of my charges, the rest are from my lappy via usb
It's slow at charging. Get the wall charger from tmobile or use a Samsung galaxy s charger. The galaxy s charger will charge it way faster than the stock htc charger.

I can honestly say that it takes mine about an hour longer to charger while power off than while power is on, don't know y tho. So now I usually just let it drain to about 3% n then charge it..

If you want your battery to last longer you shouldn't let it drain more than down to 20%, due to the nature of the lithium battery

its actually a fact, most ppl who have used Li-Ion for at least the past decade know that if you want the best performance, dont let it drop below 15-20% before charging, for optimum batter life and sustainablilty.
same thing goes for if you arent going to use the device for a long time (min. 1 month) charge it to around 50%, then decomission, and the battery will "keep" very well
EDIT: because flamers love their link complaints http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries
with 1.35 chargin is much faster. really it's already available ota for unbranded, branded phone owners need to w8 for their carrier ... :\

It charges faster because it charges faster. Lol
Idk why it does, but it does. It's the same for my hd2. A friend gave me the galaxy charger for a extra. I tried the charget and it just charged faster for my hd2. So when I got my sensation and saw that the stock charger was slow like the hd2, I tried the galaxy one, sure enough, it was faster too.
Thanks for your informations...
Just got 1.35.163.1
Some people says that improve the charging time.
I will report this tomorrow.
And i will test with sgs charger too!
I have a US version stock. As you know we have no updates yet and no s-off. My phone charges fast sometimes, other times it can be on the wall charger for 6+ hours and not be fully charged. I think its a software issue honestly.
Yes as said earlier recharge when it's at 20% the battery will hold much longer the batteryuniversity is my source too Also spare batteries should be kept at 50% and kept in the refrigerator when not in use.
Hmm the new update didn't do much for charge time for me though.
the charger that comes with the sensation is ~1A which is kinda slow when the phone is on, not as bad as others with only 500mA usb... you should be able to find a usb that give a higher A output and still retain the usb plug (ive seen 1.5A before cant remember where)... failing that if your ingenious you can splice through a different charger and make your own.. could achieve 2A+ but your could burn ya house down or blow your battery up in the process

Hi i dont know why my battery isnt completely charging! or the battery charger info is broken! anyone else not charging to 100%?
It probably hits 100% then starts draining slightly to keep it from over charging. Mine gets to 99% then I unplug and replug it and it hits 100. But that has happened with a lot of devices for me.
Happens on my evo as well. You can get around it by flashing a kernel that does trickle charging which I'm sure we'll get for the tf sooner or later.

I would NOT use an sbc kernal on this battery, they are known to shorten battery life. Cell phone batteries are a dime a dozen, this thing is both non-user replacable and most likely not cheap.
Pretty sure its a lithium ion battery inside and you shouldnt overcharge those. You're best off keeping it between 30-90% and doing a drain and full charge once a month to prolong its life. The charger should stop charging when the battery is full on it's own anyways if you do leave it plugged in. I think it's a European law to have that as a safety feature, probably an American law for this too. So if the charger is staying hot a few minutes after your device has hit 100% charge, you've got a problem. Mine does get to 100% but yes it takes a while to top up, that's just the way these batteries operate.

I donno...between 3 and 3.5 hours roughly. Pretty fast.
I'm using stock charger that came with phone.
No light indicator to indicate charging or fully charged? I've been charging via USB and it gets to 94%, so fully charged and stops charging. That's as high as it will get...
About to go work out, going to put it on wall charger and see what happens!!
Anyone else have this problem or just me because of the usb charge?
Mine only goes upto 94% br well with the wall charger.
Apparently It's a safety feature
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Mine goes to 96% typically and I've once seen it reach 97%, it's a bug, not a safety feature. As a safety feature, to prevent it from overcharging, it's supposed to charge up to 100% then stop charging until it reaches a safety level such as 95% then resume charging again. This is just a bug in the system.
Takes me just over 3 1/2 hours from dead to fully charged.
Mine goes up to 98%. Once in a while it will go up to 99%.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
1500mAh/700mA = 2.1h, i.e. less than 2h.
It will never (ever) reach 100% if your charger and phone is working correctly. It IS a safety feature. Eventhough the phone is connected to the charger, it still uses battery to run. The charger stops charging when it gets close to 100% and charges some more when it's safe to do so. Meanwhile the phone uses the battery to stay alive and if you unplug it between theese charging cycles it will be anything between ~93 and ~99%.
It seems like forever honestly with this phone. My Evo would charge in about an hour and a half. This phone takes easily 3.5 hours if not more.
For some reason Samsung chargers take longer to charge a phone.
If I use my HTC charger the phone charges a lot quicker

HTC chargers are typically 1000mah and samsung chargers are 700mah... So there's the difference.
what is up with this phone i went to sprint got a new battery not knowing this was an issue of not getting to 100%. i came from att and having the htc inspire kinda like the evo i guess it would fully charge in about an hour and last me about 12 hrs of actual use. the nexus s takes about 3 hours to fully charge and i get about 5 hours with 0% brightness im thinking about going back and returning the phone.

While I do not what is draining your battery so quickly, the reason for the charge time is stated in the post above yours. The charger that came with the Nexus S is a 700mAh charger, while many others (notably HTC's) use the full 1000mAh charge possible on a MicroUSB line. More power over the same amount of time = faster charging.

hi there
is any one have my problem?
i buy a nexus s in yesterday
but the battry cant hold charge for atleast 1 day!!
it usage is about 1 - 2 % charge in every houre!
i do workinig for example 10 minutes with the phone for setting ant etc .and then i saw the 4-6 % of battry charge go down!
or sometimes the phone is puting on standby for 30-40 mintunes
with no sms or calls, but its use about 6 % of battry chage!!!!!
and for wifi and games its even faster that it!
finally for a normal usage like 10-20 sms ,15 min call ,30 min browsing phone menues and apps and 20 web,
its going to be full empty!
and its meaning it cant keep charging for atleast 1 day!
i have the SLCD one ofcourse! => I9023 XXKD1
i couldnt find any superamoled version in my country to buy,
do you think its for the slcd screen?
i didnt think that its may cause this charging resaults for me just for the screen type!!!
my charging time is about 1.5 - 2 houres to full charge, that its not acceptable for me too!
i had a diamond2 with that poor battry.but i didnt think so the NS could be the same and even worst!
i upgrated my device to gingerbread officaly, from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 by the phone, but its still no differance!
it the back of the battry i can see the 1500MA Lion , but the battry control app i my NS shows maximun 1200 MA power!?!!
can it be the truth?
do u think its battry power completly depended to rom and radio version to fix?
if that is,can any one intreduce me a good and fast and bugless rom and radio version?
thanks a lot :roze
I am running Continuum v5.6. I have gotten amazing battery life but I do not understand what I do to obtain this. Here is what I did.
So I was getting terrible battery life and decided to recalibrate my battery. After wiping the battery stats after making sure my phone was %100 charged I decided to run the battery till my phone shut itself off. I was getting terrible battery life even after the wipe and everything. In about 24 hours the phone drained itself out with moderate to light use.
I recharged the phone with another USB outlet forcing the phone to charge slowly in USB mode. I believe it charges at 400 mah instead of the usual 700 mah when using the samsung charger. I left it until it charged from 2% all the way to %100.
This was mid Saturday. It is now Monday morning and I am still running on the same charge.
I don't doubt I could have reached up to 48 hours on my Captivate! I've never even came close to 36.5 hours without needing to charge.
What do you guys think gave me such great battery life? I am speculating that when we recalibrate our batteries we should do a SLOW charge. Slow charging batteries have always been the best method in the past IMO.
Possibility. However there are MANY different factors that contribute to battery life.
I would like to see some other confirmed reports of USB charging leading to longer battery life over AC charging.
Interesting stuff though.
Slow charging is always better with batteries. But in over a year i have never used usb to charge. So cant say if it last longer or not. I am a heavy user so no time for a slow charge
seems interesting...ima try this out as soon as i find a charger that charges at a slower speed..
I agree
I am 100% confident slow charging lasts considerably longer.
I normally use the USB on my computer to charge, and I get two days of what I consider pretty heavy use out of it, maybe longer but I'm never away from power for more than 2 days. When I charge with AC it's pretty tough to even last a single day.
Other things help as well. I always have the screen at minimum brightness, I would turn it down further at night if I could. I don't run any home screen widgets that constantly update, no haptic feedback, ect.
I'll have to try this out!
Let me do all the noobs out there a favor and ask how do i slow charge? Where do i get the whatever i need, is it a cable or plug thing and is the stock samsung stuff fast charge i assume?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

Probably want to pick up a second battery.
Gives you a free of mind.
I've been using my captivate with 2.3.3 UCKF1, I charge it with the pc or the original charger and the battery drain very fast .. I think I will have to go back to 2.2.

Hi all,
ever since i rooted my phone and flashed another ROM, i have been having this problem of very very long charging to 100%. I did attempt to calibrate the battery after flashing the ROM by the way.
First CM7, then Virtuous Inquisition, now Ordroid.
From 1% to 70% it would be quicker. Then from 71% and onward, it will take hours to move. I am using the original usb cable n adapter for charging, i can't seem to figure out what can be wrong.
Or did i calibrate the battery in a wrong way?
You charging via a power socket or a USB port in a device like a computer or something?
I think he was implying he's using the usb with wall charger
Mine takes almost 3 hours, more if i'm using it a lot while charging -- all stock with ICS
Hi, I'm on ordroid too and it takes me two to three hours to fully charge with my wall charger. I'm using a different battery, extended life Anker battery. My stock battery was so bad it took too long to charge and ran out so quickly! Are you using stock battery still or a another battery? If it's stock, you might want to consider a long lasting battery. I've found it charges faster and lasts longer. I hope this helps

try a different wall charger if the problem is the same then u need to consider a other battery
thanks for the advices..
it just came to my mind, that before I flashed any ROMs, when i was still using stock HTC Sense 3.0, it used to only take 2-3 hrs to full charge. Now it's 6.
Doubt that, mine charges to 100 in about an hour and a half (Running HyperNonSense).
If you're using a USB charger, make sure the phone knows the power source is (AC) and not USB. USB will charge a lot slower. Dial *#*#4636#*#* for testing info and look under battery information (There's probably another spot in settings but this is my favorite).
Also use the original power adpater that came with the device, or one that came with another similar device.
Mine takes 4-8 hours to charge in any ROM. Last night it was almost 9 hours from 3% to 100%
When it reaches 60 more or less it's like 100% if you reboot. I do reboot everytime to stop the wait. I don't know if that's bad but this phone charges very slow after some percentage is reached.

This is crap, what you´re doing!
If you charge the battery, the phone doesn´t know how much capacity it got. (Could be an old battery or a bigger/smaller non-stock battery) So the device will recorgnice how fast the battery adopt the power and estimate when it slows down on a specific value when to stop and show 100%.
If you will restart the device during the loading sequence, it makes a battery calibration and thinks your on 100%. But of course it is still on 60%.
Your just fooling yourself
Just curious how you handle this, because everybody says something different:
First use: completely charge the battery and then complete discharge, or first complete discharge and the full charge?
I also remember someone telling me that you shouldn't let your battery run completely empty, is that true?

just charge it when it needs it, dont worry about what % its at, and dont worry about running them right down... the phone will power down before it gets to a dangerous level for the battery.
dont leave it plugged in all the time when its sat at 100, dont leave it down at 0 and just forget about it for weeks on end...

I don't buy the bit about wireless charging. I've used my Nexus 4 with an LG wireless charger daily for almost a year now and haven't noticed any side effects with battery drain or overheating. In fact, I'd argue that the Nexus 4 and my Nexus 7 get hotter when plugged in than they do on the wireless charger. I have absolutely no reservations about using the Nexus 5 on my LG wireless charger when it arrives this week.

Well the charge and discharge isn't necessary, IIRC that's only for older battery technologies like Ni-Cd batteries (Nickel-Cadmium). On the other side, you probably shouldn't let it discharge all the way since these are Li-Po and it could shorten their lifespan (apparently).
I just plug mine in whenever I'm near a charger.
I'm at work at my desk... its plugged into the charger.
I'm in my car... its plugged into the charger.
I'm at my girls house... its plugged into the charger.
I'm at home replying to xda / android central posts... its plugged into the charger.
This is what I've done with every phone I've had. I only had issues with one battery. I used to have sprint and I had the Samsung Galaxy S2 Epic 4g Touch. After about 8 months the battery got fat (they said it was called a swollen battery at the sprint store) and it kept turning off. They gave me a new battery at the sprint store and I continued with my routine above and never had any other issues with it or any other phones.

this is right on both accounts. you dont need to discharge it all the way, and doing so will reduce its life a little. i recently read about lithium poly batteries and the particular blog i was reading talked about running the battery down to 20% then charging it to 80%
i think when i first get the device i will use it down to 0%, charge it up to 100% uninterrupted and then hopefully keep it within that 20/80 range and probably doing a 0-100 refresh on the first of every month
If you guys want to read some in depth material on charging lithium batteries I would recommend reading this. Very informative.

That's actually the concerning part when I do overnight charging, it's sat at 100 for quite a while!

It's fine. Phone manufacturers know that people charge their phones overnight. That's why there is a trickle charge mechanism built into all phones nowadays.
u have to calibrate the battery too
Over the last month I've had somewhat of a binge of buying phones from Amazon and returning them for one reason or another and I've noticed that the first 1-3 days of phone ownership are usually the toughest on the phone / battery.
I've owned over the last 2 months (in order):
- S4
- HTC One (x3 as 2 were faulty out the box)
- LG G2
- S4
- N5
I've decided on the N5 as being the best for a number of reasons, but my favourite is price.
I havn't worked out whether it's a combination of new phone = more usage or new phone = requires battery calibration. But the N5 is the only device out the major players that actually made it through day 2 (the day after it came out the box) without a charge midway, infact it's ONLY JUST gone on the charger after some 28 hours of moderate (3 1/2 hours screen on) usage.
My gut feeling is that once you're out the first week just use the damn thing, but the first few charges can make a difference to how quickly the battery feels calibrated. My N5 came with 50% charge out the box, I ran it down to 0% and topped up charge as much as I could the first day. Once I got home I once more let it 0% and then did a full 0-100% recharge. Then my 28 hour experiment started and now I'll just use it as normal, and not worry.
I keep brightness at 50% to enjoy this beauty and I do not give a single **** about the battery.
Charge battery between 20% - 80%
Do not use phone while charging
Unplug charger when battery full
