[Q] Andriod v4.2.2 ? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would like to root my SGT-P5113 that has been upgraded to v4.2.2..I have had problems every since this update....Does the root instructions and files still pertain to this, or do I need a different file, if so, what is it? (I am referring to :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657056)

I found this method to be much simpler:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535083
Used this in my 5113 and have had zero issues. Just to clarify, my Tab is a GT-P5113, is yours? The S you have in front I've never seen?

You still can do with the thread instruction to root, what is important is what comes after.
Make sure you flash latest recovery for your devices after rooting, and then you'll happy to use any rom you like!

Thanks, u guys, however, I have another issue..after this update, I am unable to get to my developers option in settings, it keeps force closing...do u all happen to know work around for this?

Skyrocket lost gallery app after root

I routed my skyrocket with the one click root. During setting it up afterwards I noticed the three gallery app was missing. I reinstalled the stock Rom to unroot. (Had problems but overcame them... different topic) Tried the superuser root method with the same results and noticed the buddy widget was also missing. Reloaded stock and haven't rooted since. Anyone have any ideas why I would lose apps and how to prevent it next time I try to root? Oh I did a Nandroid backup before the second root but the MD5 was corrupted when I tried to restore from it. Thanks inn advance for any help our suggestions.

fluke, I've never heard of this. U must have done something
The first time,I thought I may have accidentally deleted it, the second time I had just finished rooting and checked for the gallery right after that and it was missing again. It was there prior to rooting.

[/COLOR]How is it possible to accidentally delete the gallery? Rooting does not delete apps.....eother u flashed a rom with gallery missing or you deleted the gallery. And cant figure out how to get it back....so we need more info???? Be honest and elaborate please...
Flashing any rom. Would give u gallery back. Unless you found one
missing the gallery.
Use an alternate... I use QuickPic (free in Market.. or should I say PlayStore)... better and more reliable than Gallery.
Really. Thanks gpna check that put now.

Haha, Iv'e been doing the same. At first I thought It disappeared, but then realized it is not by the M's anymore since it starts with P now. Lol
Try rooting with the Odin method. Its in the dev section. Not is it only the best root method IMO, but it gets you familiar with Odin. Which is essential.

I think I Odin the first time and
Superoneclick the second. Haven't really had time (or desire) to try it again.

Thanks but I flashed back to the original Rom. I'll keep it in mind since I might try too riot it again this weekend.

It might have something to do with yout os version. I have 4.1.1 jelly beans and am waiting to get a rooting software that will work (super clickone will not work)
New Rooter
Hi Guys, I'm sorry if this is answered in full elsewhere but I can't find the answers to my questions in their entirety. For the past number of years I have had iphones and happily jailbreaking, I have just scored myself a shiny new Samsung Galaxy S3 and naturally want to root it. Now I am terrified of bricking it so want to be absolutely sure I am on track as I have never owned an android device before. The phone in question is from T Mobile uk running 4.1.2 baseband l9305BVBLL2 Model Number GT-19305. I will be using an iMac for the process. Any help greatly appreciated.
I just realised the actual question was not raised (trying to multitask), is there specific software that needs to be used with the different hardware for example does it matter if it is a mac with galaxy s3 or pc with galaxy s2 or htc whatever etc. Is it easy to brick during the process, and if you brick it is there anyway out. I'm sorry if these are dumb questions but I need to satisfy myself before proceeding with the root
You need to root using Odin. Go to galaxys3root.com for how to videos and links to tools and ROMs.

Gonna have to disagree on that website. Galaxys2root caused endless problems for people who used that method on our device. I would recommend finding a method here on xda. The s3 will have a thread with stickies to read and many tried and true methods

I tried rooting.. and im scared I screwed up my phone?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2332825 I used this and now it boots up like Install, wipe, backup, restore, mount, settings, advanced and reboot. WHAT DO I DO?
You are in recovery. You probably want to make a backup. Then you flash a Rom if you want. Did you do any research on flashing before you did this.

Just go into the Verizon galaxy s3 development area on this forum and find a ROM that u would like. It will explain everything that u need to do. Please read the entire post before doing anything though. And remember. NEVER FLASH AN INTERNATIONAL ROM. that's death for your phone. If its not meant for an sch-i535 (Verizon s3) then do not use it

You're in download mode. Pull the battery. Reboot the phone. Open super user. It should ask to update. Do that.
Go to this site and read this page. Click the download button.
http://www.scottsroms.com/content.p...;-Clean!-Smooth!-Stable!-No-Gimmicks!-★
Then click galaxy s3 (Verizon). Click clean ROM 7. Then towards the top right of the page click download.
DO ALL OF THAT FROM YOUR PHONE SO ITS EASIER
then turn ur phone off. Then hold down volume up+home button+ power button to reboot into recovery. Do a back up. Then wipe your phone. Then install your ROM. follow the on screen instructions and then you're good to go.

THIS. please do plenty of reading before attempting to flash roms, or even root for that matter. why would you root, unlock, and install a custom recovery if you have no idea what the recovery screen looks like ?
SIR. there are plenty of videos on youtube, threads on this site, and information in other places on this subject. read up . that is the only reason any of us know how to answer your questions.
without reading, i am sure as soon as you flash whatever rom you decide on, you will be right back here with more questions. if not BEFORE you even accomplish it. search youtube, and find a video on "how to flash roms using TWRP" there are plenty of videos. watch a couple.
there are also videos on almost every ROM that we have available, so you could check it out before you flash it.
the biggest thing i and others will say is READ READ READ.
good luck!

initial boot will take about as long as it did when you first turned it on out of the box. 2-5 minutes tops. 5 would be strange though. end up getting this figured out?
I actually just wiped data and cache and it booted up within 3 minutes
Thank You

I just want to say thank you for offering the best advice we can give to noobs( I am a noob and I'm not ashamed). I had never even heard of rooting before I got my galaxy s3 and I had no idea what I was doing when I rooted it. But, I got lucky. I found CASUAL and rooted my phone in literally 3 minutes. And the first time I saw the twrp screen I panicked, got lucky again when I chose reboot system, then I got sooooooo lucky when I accepted the OTA and lost my root but didn't have any serious problems. That was over a month ago and I have not rooted phone again because now, after all the reading I've done I can see very clearly how lucky I was. My point is, rooting and modifying our phones is serious business and we should understand what we're doing before we do it. And we should exercise some caution when offering advice.
Good luck to everyone in your endeavors and take care of your lovely little phones!

[Q] [Help]Attempting to Unroot Phone, Phone's Powercycling

Hello everyone. So today I tried to root my phone for the first time and all was fine. I could download and use apps that required root access. Then I tried to flash CM 10.1.3, and that's where things got messy. After I flashed, it was saying that unauthorized software was on my phone, and I had to go to verizon. I figured this was because my bootloader unlock didn't work. So I tried flashing a stock 4.1.2 rom, and now my phone's just powercycling. Any ideas? Yes, I am new to this, feel free to yell at me for being an idiot for forgetting some obvious thing.
I think you need to Odin back to a stock build and then repeat the entire process of rooting, unlocking, etc.
I could also be wrong, so we'll get yelled at together.

@Elerock, does powercycling = stuck at the Verizon LTE splash screen or boot animation? If so, boot into recovery (hold power, home, and volume up) then do a factory reset. Root and unlock following these directions.

[Q] Help with Rerooting galaxy s blaze 2.3.6

ok so i recently got my samsung galaxy s blaze 2.3.6 rooted after it was stuck on a soft brick. I guess i didnt root it right with odin i am using DarkKnight build 8 ROM with TFQ scorched kernel GB 1.0 and it didnt really feel like it was working right after a few days so i did a root checker and it said i didnt have it rooted but i could still get super user and other root apps from google play so i look some stuff up and i guess i rooted my phone from the SD card instead of the phone itself...can someone help me on how to fix this? i spent days upon days trying to root it the first time after i soft bricked it and i realized how hard it is to find stuff for my phone. im also still new to this whole "root" thing and i tried the blaze bible and i just got confused, and sorry i just realized i posted this on the wrong forum after i looked where i was putting it...
So you're on gingerbread, huh? That's unfortunate, a lot easier if you were ics.
First, it doesn't matter where the zip is, both storages work. Second, if I was you, I would find the official ics firmware and use Odin to flash it. Give me a bit and I'll find a post in here somewhere that lays out the steps to get your phone back up and running...
