Smart Radio - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So one of my favorite features of Cataclysm is the smart radio feature. It really is a huge lifesaver for the battery on my N5. But as always I have that itch to flash something new. Are there other ROMs that have a smart radio feature, or is there a way to replicate this on other ROMs? Basically I wanna switch to 2G when my screen goes off and back to LTE when I unlock my device.

If u use gravity box, it also has that feature but I haven't tried it

I accomplish this and many other automated processes that require multiple apps with Tasker. I even have a task set to switch to 2g when on wifi as my cell signal is better on 2g.

Try this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.voidvapps.intelli3g it an xposed module works good
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app

You could set it up in Tasker or Llama.

I use gravity box smart radio. Works great.

+1. Don't use battery saving apps. They do more harm than good

If I run stock+art do I have some chance to switch 2g/3g with some tool?

You will have to have a custom tile installed through xposed but that does not run on art. Your best bet is to get a custom ROM with the LTE tile and switch your network that way.

[Q] Mod to make Google Now always listen?

I was wondering if anyone knows of an app or a mod coming out where voice command will work on any screen/if the screen is off? Just curious.

Someone will eventually make it. The thing is without a dedicated processor like the moto x has, the battery drain would make this phone's battery even worse.

Also this mod could be combined with some intelligence:
* When charging, enable 'always on' google now
* Otherwise google now from lock screen enabled only with double press of power button
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, has there been any progress on this front? I would love me some always listenings.
I actually want to permanently disable it, whenever i long press my headset button which i used to set for rewind the mp3 i'm currently listening, google now popup.....

Isn't this what you're looking for? I don't know if it uses the low-power core and whatnot, but it seems to do what it's set out to do at least.

Lockscreen notifications

Is there any app that adds lock screen notifications and pocket mode as Mahdi ROM has implemented?

That looks like an awesome app. But WTF is with the music they put in the promo video haha
These look ok, but they don't seem to have pocket mode as well like Mahdi rom does...
And they're not the same. The notifications don't start as icons on the right that you can slide to view.
Use Mahdi ROM, or even AOSPAL. Even the other Roms with it as well, because I don't think you will find an app with the exact look, or pocket mode at all. It's seems to be more of an Internal type of feature.

Cool, sounds like a Samsung feature.
Is there any increase in battery drain as a result of using it?

Barely any, only about 1-3% from a 100% charge to 5%.
The Gravity Screen app in the Play Store is similar but works slightly differently, you can use that if your ROM doesn't have pocket mode.

Cheers bud, I'll check if Purity supports it but if not I'll check out that app :good:
Is it possible to cherry pick the notifications and add them to cyanogenmod?
Not that I could do either of that (i've tried) just wondering is all.
I've used NILS for a while but it still has that SMS app bug where the app becomes unresponsive if using swipe to open

I know that Carbon, Paranoid Saberdroid and Mahdi ROM has it, along with lockscreen notifications. Also, note that the battery drain that Gravity Screen would show is negligible across time (most I ever saw is 5% from a 100% charge), but if you check your battery only after a short period of a few minutes it'll appear to use around 25% battery, so don't worry if it appears to use a lot in the first few minutes. Also recommend to have Wake by motion and Keep screen on by motion turned off.
Hey try AcDisplay

Purity doesn't use it. Neither does Slim. I wish I knew how to cherry pick port it, I'd love to have it on stock/slim.

Yes it has but I've tried it and it does not catch all notifications for me. And when clicking some notifications it would stay at the lockscreen so I would have to manually unlock after pressing the notification. It worked very inconsistent for me. Worked much better when I was using the Mahdi-rom.

Double tap screen is cool too. I did, however, see a major change in battery life. I used to get 3 to 4 days and now I barely get one. Anyone else notice the same? I was wondering if it might be because I made a very busy custom watch face, but curious to see others' feedback...

Did you recently modify anything else besides what you listed? Mine is fine. Get greenify and see how many apps are open in the background that could be slowing you down.
Run a different launcher could help. Also set your scaling to .5 or off under developer options.
Other than that your G3 will probably never be as snappy as your m8 was
try this, it helped me

Have you tried the secret menu? Dialpad 3845#*850#, scroll down to Thermal Daemon Mitigation OFF, click and it goes from false to true, automatically keeps your phone from throttling at a low clock speed, makes everything snappier. I don't know why LG thinks they have to throttle these phones.

I turn my data off at home because I'm on a 4g fringe area, no need in wasting battery mindlessly, plus I just switch to my tablet when I hit the door. At any rate my UI isn't sluggish when I pick up my phone and my battery life is just fine. Promoting a phone as having a 2.5ghz processor and throttling it to run much slower just to save some battery is dumb.

I'm perfectly happy with my battery life, just because I posted a pic and somebody got their jimmies rustled is no reason to derail this thread, it's about the sluggish UI. I'm not going to go messing around with the build prop when I can just toggle my data off and use WiFi when I feel like it.

Yeah, that's it. You have to be rooted and have SU permission.

What am I doing wrong?

So I checked the battery stats and found that wifi was ON all the time. Even though i left the battery saver ON last noght for 10 hours and also turned on the stamina mode with Extened Stamina turned on too last night and I do it frequently too.
So whats causing this orange wifi bar to appear without breaking. I know that it breaks when it is turned off. So I dont know whats happening.
Any help will be appreciated
It is like caused by the mobile radio active bug in lollipop. You either have to root and disable a bunch of services, flash back to KitKat, or desk with it until Android m is released.
But you could set your WiFi to "stay active never" under the advanced WiFi settings. That provides a temporary solution for me, but some apps like Google services would still find a way to keep it active.
I eventually gave up and rolled back to KitKat. Couldn't be happier now!
