Best rom for Stability/usability/dock

Want to find the smoothest rom/kernel combo that will function PROPERLY and without the random reboots, SODs and lockups. On JB Cyan 10's latest stable right now, and for christmas my wife got me a dock so that will come into play as well. Which rom would be recommended for these necessities?
Also, NTFS will need to work properly, as I'll be plugging my usb drives up a good deal for transferring. Some are NTFS some Fat32. Also, I have a HDMI mini to reg HDMI converter I'd like to use to put movies on the big screen at the house. Please keep these in consideration when pushing a rom

At the moment I am using EOS4 preview 88 with KAT kernel #70, and I must say this combo probably won't be the best for you just yet...
My only experiences are with Stock ROM rooted, EOS3 #81 (both KAT Kernel 69 and RaymanFX's kernels) and EOS4 with KAT (current) so I can't say that much.
If you curious or willing to make the jump for Jelly Bean, I managed to test NTFS support on EOS3/KAT and it's just fine, and dock compatibility is just perfect, haven't tested HDMI yet though. on EOS4 the dock is a bit dodgy...

I agree 100%. The best ROM ever was EOS #81 with KAT kernel 69. The most fast, smooth and stable ROM ever!!!!!
Now I am on EOS 4 build #84 with stock EOS kernel. It is good but it is not yet the best. It will be in the future because Timduru and Rayman are the best devs for our device.

Ok so I'm on eos 81 with kat 69.. One problem I've encountered and I'm not sure if its a problem or i've just gone full retard(tropic thunder reference ) but I only see one battery icon at bottom, with my percentage when connected to my dock whereas previously there were two, one indicating transformer battery percentage and one indicating dock percentage. is this normal? is the percentage listed with both dock and transformer or what?

Okay guys, Team EOS4 #88 is out now and is ready for daily use =] I’ve been following their previews since 82 and I think they reach a stable enough point on their 4.2 Jelly Bean ROM as well.
So for those looking for a 4.2 usable rom, EOS4#88 with Kat Kernel 70 and gapps 20121212 is just perfect ;-]

I am glad to here that you use as daily driver. I am using it too. But our friend is asking about something stable. It is too early for 4.2 builds.

You could try Dual Battery Widget

I am also looking for rock solid stability, but it would be nice to have a JB rom. I also use dock, hdmi and NTFS.

I just came from EOS 3 #81 w/ their kernel and went ahead and flashed #88 yesterday and to my surpise this am, discovered that they went ahead and released #89. So right now I'm running EOS 4 #89 with KAT kernel 70, and I gotta say that it's pretty stable aside from the software keyboard workaround. It's way too soon to report any SOD or random reboots though. EOS 3 #81 rebooted about once every 48 hours for me but other than that it was extremely stable.

I double what you say here, I updated to #89 as well. This time with a full system/data/factory reset wipe and everything is as smooth as ever.

I haven’t played around with ICS roms besides the stock one, but to be fair, I don’t see any more solid stability than what eos3 and 4 (specially 4) has to offer. The only thing is, since JB 4.2 stills a bit fresh, some things might not be fully working. But for your case...
From my experience, dock on eos4#89 is fully functional, I use it with spanish_us layout and have NO COMPLAINTS at all at the moment. For hdmi I can’t personally tell, but seem reports of people saying it works so you might to give it a shot. I’m just not fully confident on the NTFS as there seems to be some problems with mounting usb devices or dock SD, but I don’t know the extent of your use, so this might be a big let down for you for now.

I am still running EOS3 #81 with KAT 69, and things are quite stable. Is there an advantage to going with EOS4 #89 (other than just the satisfaction of running latest and greatest?). I am a bit reluctant to disrupt this island of stability, unless, of course, there is a concrete gain to be had

Honestly I would stay on #81 for a bit longer if you have the same stability that I have had. There are a few bugs that still need worked out with the latest EOS 4 build. One is the software keyboard disappears randomly while trying to type, but they do have a workaround in the thread for that. Another one that I have noticed is that after a long sleep, the tablet doesn't recognize the HW keyboard without being redocked. I know petty quirks but the main issue is that it seems slightly sluggish compared to EOS 3 build #81, which they are also aware of. If stability is what you are after I'd wait a few more builds, but if you want to take the plunge than it's definitely ready for daily use.

I double what you said. I'm currently on EOS4 and doing just fine, but I do know of some funny problems around specially regarding NTFS and USB drives. By no means EOS4 is bad, but for those who prior stability over everything else, it is indeed worth waiting maybe a couple more builds or so.

i am running the last updated "nightly" build of cm10. it works without much of an issue at all. i haven't changed the kernel at all, kept it stock. volume is fine, dock does everything it's supposed to, etc. i WAS getting random reboots when overclocking to the max, but i just went down one level and now it's fine. other than that, not a single issue with it. beautiful, gorgeous rom. quick and responsive enough to even run go launcher on....no device i have ever had hasn't lagged with go launcher installed until this one. even with email, facebook, news reader, clock, to do list, search, music player, and power widgets all running, it's still smooth as butter. i have always loved the look of go launcher and the variety of the gazillions of themes out there for it and whatnot, but have never kept it more than a day because of the lag it creates. now its a problem of the past.

I actualyl just got around to checking out this NTFS/USB drive issue that I read about in the EOS 4 thread but the drive worked perfectly for me. I didn't try writing to it but I copied files from my computer to the drive then copied over to the tablet and it worked fine.
I'm actually really eager to check out the most recent builds of CM 10.1 for our device. It's kinda crazy that it came out so fast since the TF101 is so old. It'll probably be the next one i flash once I get back into the flashing mood.
EDIT: just got introduced to the NTFS bug. I must have used a thumb drive that was formatted with FAT32 earlier.

Thanks for your opinions, Ralkkai and leomeloxp! One question though: What advantages (e.g., extra features) do you get with the EOS4 software, vs. the EOS3 on the TF101?

The main advantage for EOS 4 over EOS 3 is that EOS 4 is built on the latest release of Jelly Bean(4.2). Other than that it doesn't have any random reboot issues or sleep of death issues that 3 had. 4 has the ability to use widgets on the lockscreen. It has the latest software for the camera, with Photosphere which is kinda fun to play with. It does however come with the "Phablet" UI so its got the navbar at the bottom and the status bar at the top and the navbar buttons are in the middle of the screen by default. I'm more fond of the layout in EOS 3 which is almost identical to stock. Other than that they are fairly similar. Some people report EOS 4 running super smooth but I felt that 3 had an overall more complete feel to it.
I will say that the current build of EOS 4 does grow on you the more you use it. Like instead of the buttery smoothness that some people mention when sliding through home screens, this one tends to glide through them. Hard to explain lol

I am planning to give the tf101 to my mother to use it mainly as an e-book reader and some surfing the web, can you please tell me if ICS roms or JB roms have better battery life?
The table twill be used mainly as an ebook reader, some internet, wifi on 24/7 (approximately), sometimes 3g, some picture taking and album browsing and some music.

I would recommend ICS if your primary use will be ereader. JB has been a bit heavier on the battery usage for me.

Smoothest ROM?

Hi, Im looking for a ROM that is mainly focused on smoothness. Especially the drawer, (lagging when swiping between pages). I currently use CM10.1 and it offers the smoothest experience, but when using the notification bar and quick settings there is definitely a noticeable lag on every ROM I have used. (EOS, KillRom)

The stock rom was the one which has been mostly lag free. But as far as Android 4.2 roms are still in beta stadium I think that this will being fixed on the road to a stable one.

I've been quite happy with both CM10.1 (my current one) and MyAndroid 4.2.2 (dreamwcli ROM), I just changed to CM10.1 because I wanted to try a new ROM and wanted to use 3g again (my one is MZ601). I changed the launcher to "NOVA Launcher" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDMsImNvbS50ZXNsYWNvaWxzdy5sYXVuY2hlciJd) and put only one homescreen with only a few widgets. That made my device quite fast

Yea I know... I was using WiFi only ROMs because of battery life, but now I needed 3G (classes are back ), and I wanted to try a new ROM. Anyway Congrats on your ROM! I used it for more than one month (I'm a flashing addict, when a new ROM releases I use it, but I didn't feel the need for yours )!

I tried My android a few minutes ago and must admit that it is really (butter ) smooth unlike team eos 4 #144.
But I miss the mostly framework related things I can customise using the eos control center app. Especially the option to choose long press actions for the navigation bar buttons, customisable quick settings buttons and the delay for wifi off after screen off.
Does anyone know a workaround for this?

Still find that 4.1.2 roms of CM are the smoothest out there. Found the latest CM 10.1 and My Android to be comparatively laggy.

The smoothest ROM ever for the Xoom is BAKED build 5 (Android 4.1.2).
I have tried all 4.1 ROM and this was the best.
I also tried some 4.2 ROM (including the latest BAKED build) but they aren't as smooth as 4.1

I'd say it depends on your CPU settings, each ROM needs different schedulers and governor to run smooth...for me EOS4 goes great

I am on it too. Team EOS 3 stable and jb 4.1.1 nearly to latest 4.2, there is no manything to complaint about the steady and smooth, wifi, 3g (my Xoom MZ 601) connect fast and no signal drop so far lag likely zero, there is no big bug insist involved too. I really love team eos because of mention heating fix new issues from end users and go on the new version road android when it office notification from G. They hard working to release new build average on every week I calculated which most better than the older once. I intend indeed want to try EOS 4 with nightlies on 4.2 build. I find out many news on 4.2 but lazy to backup data right now,

Ok EOS 3.0 were certainly the smoothest roms but I'm fine with EOS 4.0.
I've made a downgrade to Stock rom but I went back to EOS a few days after. :highfive:

Best ROM is selective there really isn't too many builds to flash and see for one self.
It'll also depend on kernel set up and user program installs.

I'm using EOS 4 because I find it virtually flawless when used with Nova. josteink is doing a nice job with his "no-name" too though, and is worth a look if you're a CM fan.

My "stock" rom, ie stable/maintained/enhanced/feature rich, is EOS since early days of 101. I forgot about Asus' rom, and I'm grateful we got unlock keys for our tablets so early!

As the one maintaining the No-name build, I have to say both are good. And they are different. So it's really just a matter of taste.
Timduru is doing an excellent job with Team EOS 4 and the only reason I'm not using that and instead is maintaining my own build is because I prefer CM-based ROMs.
So I say try both. See which one you like best. You probably wont be disappointed by any of them.

i am using no-name for a long time now and i think is super. after reading most of the replies here saying about EOS, i will give it a try

Part of the issue is that people (at least myself) have been using EOS for so long that we are kind of entrenched, and EOS4 came out before no-name. Back in the early TF101 JB ROMS, EOS3 had proved to me to be the most fully-functional and stable of the TF101 ROMS, if (maybe) not the smoothest when it came to scrolling through the home screen. I tried them all and I liked them all, but just found EOS the best all-around,
The more recent builds of EOS 4 have been similar for me, very stable, everything that I normally use works fine. Maybe still a very rare screen tear here and there, but no SOD/RR's. I loaded up no-name a few weeks ago and it seemed to work great, but as I was used to my EOS4 set-up, I didn't give it much of an evaluation. It takes me some time to set up my tablet to how I like it, and while it was fun doing so the first 10 times, it's not as much fun as it used to be. I might flash no-name again and see if a data-only nandroid restore of my current set-up works, and give it a more of a run.
The only downside to EOS4 IMO might be that with the nav bar (bottom bar) enabled, home-screen transitions aren't as smooth as I'd expect from jellybean. The plus side is that I learned to stop using the navbar and instead disable it, using LMT pie controls or GMT gestures, both of which work great and allow for more screen real estate. My old TF101 seems to be as fast, smooth and functional as my Nexus 7 or my sister's TF Prime.
These guys have really made my $250 Black Friday tablet into the best bang-for-the-buck gadget I ever bought.

I use the No Name and i like it.
On Team Eos the gapps din't work after 2 installs so i install the no name and everything works best. :good:

Agreed, my tablet now runs better than most new devices with EOS 4. May see some RR if overclocking past 1.4GHz or leaving the SDCARD in the dock when not in use.

Hey guys, semi noob here. I currently have AR on my tablet and i want to upgrade to 4.2. When i started learing to do this i soft bricked my tablet by going from 4.1 to the ARevolution. I would prefer for this not to happen again. So is all i need to do is do a full wipe. then install 4.2 off sd card via CWM? then flash apps etc?

Just follow initial installation intstructions really. And I would recommend using TWRP instead of CWM.
You should install this first, via Goomanager, and when you see that you have that working, you can install this ROM.
Note: if this is the first 4.2 ROM you are installing, beware that you will probably have to do a factory reset to be entirely sure you avoid problems.

Sorry. I didnt download Goomanager (i am now) basically i had 4.2.2 rom on my sdcard along with gapps. booted into CWM recovery. Wiped data etc, went to instal via sdcard and said that it cant be mounted. IE i can install new room. I can reboot back into my original rom (AR). so i am going to try the goomanager via TWRP
No idea why i couldnt mount sdcard however.

This is one of the reasons twrp is recommended.
It works with both internal and external storage without any nonsense

I've used both now and they seem to be the same in terms of speeds
But saying that the speeds are generally rubbish. I've no idea what is going on or if I am expecting too much from this now relatively old tablet and a new OS. Everything seems to lag even on a fresh install.
If the tablet is downloading anything then things grind to a major halt.
I'm pretty sure that ICS wasn't anywhere near as bad as this.
Running games and typing on the keyboard seems to be OK though...just seems to be normal day to day use.
Any ideas ??

Actually now I think about it the slowness only really is visible when there is data flowing. If I turn off WiFi then there doessnt seem to be much sluggishness at all.

Best ROM for TF700?

I'm getting my tablet Monday and I really don't want to have to flash different roms just to find one that works best.
I prefer Cyanogen stuff, I'm running the nightlies on my Razr Maxx HD, and would like to continue using it on a tablet. HOWEVER, it seems that Cromi has a more developed ROM. Am I wrong? What do you guys think is the best rom and why?

Wait a few weeks and you may not have to decide! sbdags and _that are continuing to work on ROM2SD for CROMi-X! Run his rom on internal and another rom on your microSD. Already works for CROMi-X, miniCROMi-X, but CM is coming - I can feel it

Cromi-x is highly recommended, but on my tablet it did run well at all. I would recommend going with cyan based rom, I run cyan on all my other android devices and i could not get used to the Asus based roms at all.
Currently running CMB even without data2sd like cromi-x had it way smoother and hasn't crashed yet. Plus has all the cyan features i know and love...

His rom, sbdags, is very fast and smooth. I don't know how are we going to accurately measure the speed of the tf700t. According to most of the testers, all the measurement apps are lied and can not be trusted but fast and smooth are even worst because there are no data or numbers associating with the test data to back up the conclusion. Otherwise, we can test them side by side... It is just my opinion and don't kill me if I am saying something wrong...

I have had the TF700 for just a few weeks, but go back Droid1 days with running custom roms. Current devices is a Gnex running experimental KitKat, and Nexus 7 that is the wives DD running 10.1.
My experience with TF is as follows get device, unlock, try to load custom rom find out USB data port is DOA, return device, get new one, take two days to get unlock app to work (just kept trying) rejoiced due to unlocking, download Cromi latests, flashed with DATA2SD and choosing Hunds kernel. Running it that way for about 10 days, getting frustrated and returning to CM based ROM (I have ran CM on GNEX and previous devices 80-90% of the time).
First off, let me say I may be wrong about my Cromi situation and probably should have held off posting my experiences. In the last 24 hours I have spent a lot more time on these forums and have sdbags 1:1 helping me getting Data2SD up and running on CM based 4.3 rom. I have been reading more of the posts instead of just skimming them loooking for what I need to fix something and move on. I have to say I am impressed at folks here (specifically _that and sdbags), their ingenuity and expertise (not mention willingness to contribute) is impressively and rarely seen these days in my opinion.
To answer your question about speed, yes, Cromi-x was fast, by far the fastest 4.2 rom to date on any device I have ran. I am sure this is due to Data2SD and the many many tweaks that have been made. However I know 4.2 is plagued by no trim, and at least on my Gnex 4.3 based roms are more responsive (less times hung with no response) than 4.2 roms. So first off I have bad taste in my mouth with anything related to 4.2 because of my Gnex experiences (probably wrong way to look at things I know). So going in I was little worried about 4.2 based.
Here is a list of annoyances with the rom being based on Asus and not AOSP:
Pulldown menu (pull up in the table interface) not being Googles menu (why change it)
Softkeyboard layout (trying to get the at symbol), no swiping (IIRC)
No cCLOCK widget (I wish I didn't like that CM thing so much...)
None of those were deal breakers, I had planned on addressing those eventually but the following occured:
First boot, confirmed data2sd was working, ran benchmarks, was impressed how well it ran etc. Installed my apps, all was good with the world love at first boot....
Sat it down on table (was in dock) rebooted, came back up to welcome screen, lock tablet was restore to factory. Perplexed, I reinstalled my apps, and went about my merry way (never re-ran benchmarks or really looked into the files system too much, my bad).
Next few days crashed reboots occurred randomly (maybe due to the Hunds OC kernel, should have tried stock kernel i suppose)
Finally one day a reboot occured and I rebooted back into my original environment I had setup in the first few hours of Cromi, my data from the environment I was in appeared lost. At this point the annoyances listed above (related to Asus, not the Cromi-rom) were too much.
I wiped everthing (even formated SD card), and went to CMB (why I didn't go striaght 10.2 I don't know). I have not had one single reboot/crash since the move, it is pretty peppy and I am getting really good benchmarks for not having data2sd installed, which is odd. If I didn't see how fast cromi was, I wouldn't be looking to get data2sd back as of right now i feel like 4.3 AOSP with data2sd has to be faster than 4.2 ASUS w/ data2sd.

Also, there is a trim supported on Cromi X but that would depend on the version of the kernel. You can ask _that or sbdags to help you mount it if it is not currently mounting as an option...

The only time I experience a crashing application is with boat browser. I leave the setting for flash set to always on and flash itself isn't a clean application. That is what causes my tablet to force close the app. I've not experienced the rebooting that I did running pure stock Asus firmware either and it otherwise runs perfect.
Maybe try using one of _that's OC kernals. While not as fast as hunds, they are stable and still offer a greater experience than stock. I haven't found needed to use the 1.8ghz performance mode in his kernals and for my needs the balanced setting at 1.3ghz works fine. The extra boost is there if needed.
Speed doesn't mean you will have the best user experience from the tablet. While hardware specs are meant to be the same for all TF700s, each component is different due to the manufacturing process for each tablet assembled. The CPU/components in your tablet may not play nice with hunds kernal.

Cromi-X will be a good option. I think it give you more freedom to install what you want a bit more flexible.

Hello and greetings from new user of TF700T.
I have been using this ROM for 3 days and I can say while the performance of cromi-x is not poor, it's not great either. Certainly better than CM11 (tried that before switching to cromi-x), but navigating the entire Android OS still feels sluggish. Not to say my TF700T is always slow, but tapping home button for instance, could take me 2-3 seconds before it starts reacting. When I open any apps, the transition animation is also sluggish, which is worse if I navigate apps from recent apps button. Lastly and the worst, Google Now and Google Now Launcher are very unpleasant to use, freezes on the opening and lags almost on the entire time.
I wonder if this kind of experience normal in TF700T considering the tablet is 2 years old? Or there are some tweaks I missed? I am currently running CROMi-X 5.4 Xenogenesis DEODEX.
For whatever the reason is, I'm still thankful for such a great ROM. It's the guys like you who make Android different and beautiful

Actually, it is a part of the Cromi X v5.4. It is working fine with Cromi X ROM only and never test with other ROMs. It is running perfectly fine with all of my testers except one that he had a weird waking up issue....

[Q] Asus TF300T with Android 4.2.1 extremely slow.

I have been experiencing very slow and poor performance from my Asus TF300T.
I have Android 4.2.1 instsalled in, (stock rom) after recently attempting to install lollipop. I did manage to install lollipop but saw that the it was buggy and kept on crashing so I went back to the stock rom install but it seems its very slow.
I am not really sure what I need to improve it. Most times, I tap on an app-icon and it just sits there or I have to tap multiple times before it opens up. or the tablet will crash and reboot. Its unlocked, and I can install ROMs using adb or through twrp.
My only option is to toss this POS and buy a newer model of something different. My use of it is pretty light, mostly streaming videos & surfing.
Please help.

I'm using KatKiss right now and its pretty stable. I don't use this tablet much anymore though, so its not a daily driver for me.

Any 4.4 custom ROM should do well, though I'd still take CM over anything else.
5.x isn't fast, but for my use case it's almost as good as stock, plus it's beautiful and has some extended touchpad gestures I need.

I dont even have that many apps installed or running so not really sure what else I can do, other than throwing this POS out of my bedroom window. I dont do much on it other than surfing and watching videos. Are there any lightweight ROMs that are not so heavy resource intensive that I can test and see how they pan out?

I'd recommend KatKiss 4.4, it runs quite well on my tablet
