[Q] APK for forced GPS? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I have an employee that I gave an S3 to and use TSheets for clock in/clock out. Tsheets will log GPS at clock in and clock out, even with gps off, BUT it cant do the 10 minute intervals. Employees little son keeps screwing with the phone and every couple of weeks I have to turn the GPS on manually. So, my question is, is there an app or rom or work around that will either hide the gps button after its activated or force gps to stay on.
If this is in the wrong section, my apologies.

I think the best and easiest way to do this is kick the SHI,, out of the little son..just kidding, lol. OK the solution is down load this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thinkyeah.apphider and hide settings and map app.

ill try it. GPS is considered an App then?

GPS is system service, MAP is an app which can redirect to GPS to enable it, so you need to hide settings for GPS and MAP app. Open the hide app and tab on the Add(+) button, select Settings and Map then tabl save. Done.
Edit: There is another way where you could use app lock, which can be found in the market, I haven't try any so if you run into issue I need to take a look.

Problem with Widgetsoid on Android

So I`m new here and if my thread is not on the right place - sorry. And here it is my problem:
I`m using Widgetsoid Switcher Widget and have this very annoying problem that when i turn on something it not works (For example: I turn on my data service, widget indicates that it`s turned on but actually it's not. If I turned it on from the Settings menu the widget indicates it`s turned on and when I stop it from the widget it doesn`t stop). Same with WiFi and GPS... This thing is freaking me out so if somebody can help me it would be great or if you can tell me other app like that one with options for customization. Thanks in advance
Can`t somebody help me?

Hi,
Try to uninstall, install and reboot directly after install (it's important!).
After go to global preferences and check "Disable all apn"
Create your widgets and it will be ok.
Now everythings is fine but Data Service still doesnt't work... Any ideas?
data toggle help
i had the same problem with the data/3g toggle on my htc evo. what you have to do is go to "settings->wireless & networks->then scroll down and make sure there is a check mark in the "mobile network" setting" in order for the widget to control it the setting must first be enabled. it took me and the dev 3 days to find this out.
also if that doesn't work go into the app itself and as soon as it opens it you should see something at the top that says data toggle mode. make sure that setting is set to "APN toggle" and not "APN rename"
hope this helps. remember to rep if it did
Thanks man
No problem

I had a similar problem today, it looks like the data switch in Widgetsoid places a dash in front of your AccessPoint name in order to block data transfer and removes that dash when you click switch again.
After messing with Widget I was not able to connect to net, I installed, uninstalled, etc, and then I noticed that APN list was empty, I had to add the APN again and restart it, I think (as said above) that you need the data to be ON then do a restart in order for Widgetsoid to properly read the status.
If you're rooted, use the new "root method" to toggle data. It doesn't mess with your APN & it works flawlessly for me. It's the first time I've had a data toggle that actually works.
A simple method
FIX = Settings>Location & Security>Select Device Administrators> *Uncheck Widgetsoid
Uninstalled
Thanks to: mr.noobsalot
I know this is an old thread, but where is the global preferences on version 3.4.1 it doesnt appear when I click apply.
Im using a HTC sensation and ICS.
Thanks

Stay FAR away from Widgetsoid. It can slow a Galaxy S5 down to a Crawl. Your Dialer will not function, Your phone will not respond. Its trying to load your phone with Ads or something and keeps your CPU busy, whether its a dual core or quad doesn't matter. Developer does not respond and does not seem to care. After uninstalling this App, the phone feels "new" again.
I believe this app is some type of Spyware/Malware combo. Why does it need access to my Contacts? Something very fishy and the developer never responds. It's a great Widget when it works but certain things about it don't seem right. Uninstalled!

You need to gsam or bbs to tell you what's waking your phone. From the info you provided no one can tell you what's going on.

Yes, give it a day and then look at held awake and app usage. That should tell you what's causing the problem. You can post screen shots here of those and we should be able to give you an idea of what's going on

its google play services.. its at the top of the list, but shouldn't be there at all. its been an issue with many other nexus 5 users this past month or so. i even had it. people are finding several ways to fix it. i fixed it by installing the disable service app, and removing all the location oriented stuff from google play services.

it should be even lower. mine was at 5% when causing trouble.
As said, use gsam.... Let it go from 100 to about 10 percent and sift through it. Post screens that look odd.
Don't reboot, Gsam will reset if you do.
Your screens are for an hour....can't tell much from that. Need a long timeframe.
Good luck!
Oh, and you need gsam root companion as well, to see held awake times and wakelocks. Get it from play store, run it after you download it.

true, this stuff happened after I factory reset it, I'm probably going to do a clean install of 4.4.3
did a factory reset, clean install of 4.4.3.... and it didn't work. well it was fine for day one, but crap again today.
wtf is the problem with Google play services?? it's really pissing me off
p.s. screenshots are for only one hour, but I used my phone for like 5 hours from before with the same amount of wakes between screen ons..
I'm willing to bet its related to what seems to be horrible signal strength.... Combined with location services. (High accuracy I'm betting? Or possibly on battery saver?)
So an app, or apps are trying to get location and having trouble cause your signal is so weak. (Trying to reach radio towers)
Or, its just apps trying to access data...social apps in particular, or anything that automatically receives info/data.
Anyway....to see if I'm on the right track.....first step is to turn location services off completely and see how it is.
If its no different....scenario 2.
For a few hours to test....keep location off and disable data. You'll still get texts and phone calls ...but that's it. See how that is for a few hours.
Good luck! ?

I don't think it's signal strength, becsuse both of these days I was at school, in the same spot. but yeah I'll try turning off location (it's on battery saver btw) and report back on how things go. thanks!

I actually think it's location, I did a short test turning it off then back on to battery saving, and you can see that it made a difference. the big gap where there is no awake is when I turned off location, and then right till the end you can see the phone keeps waking up after I enabled location again. I don't understand how it can go from no wakes between screen on to like 1000 wakes between screen on in just a day.. like wtf
I also have location off for facebook and messenger, and basically everything else except camera and Google, but I've always had location on for them including yesterday, so I don't think they're the problem

it still happens when location is disabled. i dont know whats up with google play services this past month, but it has bothered many. it started when they were updating the play services and added many more abilities and permissions to it. and its not just a normal app btw, it controls much of what goes on now with the os, even updating many things in the background.

Location icon constantly in status bar on Lollipop ?

Is it normal for the GPS status icon to always be present in the right side of the status bar on Lollipop (V5.02)?
Location is enabled and is set to high accuracy. No apps are running (or present in the recent apps list) that make constant use of the GPS (IE: Maps).
I'm curious if this is normal behavior on this device. I have 3 other devices to compare to that have the same apps and location settings :
- Galaxy S3 -- Icon is always present when location is enabled (Android 4.4)
- Nexus 5 -- Icon only appears when an app requests use of the GPS (Android 5.1.1)
- Nexus 9 -- Icon only appears when an app requests use of the GPS (Android 5.1.1)

It does not turn off automatically unless you are running an app to do so. My battery saver app lets you specify a list of apps that need gps...when I run the app it turns on gps...when the app exits it turns gps off. There is also a free version of it..search for "Greeenpower"...it does require root for an app to toggle gps under lollipop.
Thanks for the reply but I didn't think that applied to Android V4.x and UP.
You are supposed to be able to keep your location toggle set on ON all the time and Android is supposed to only enable it when an app requests it.. I can clearly see this behaviour on both my Nexus devices running lollipop.
Since this phone is as close to stock android as I've ever seen I'm wondering if anyone else is observing the same behaviour I am or if else might be keeping it forced on unknowingly.

I don't think he means it turns off in the settings. But the location active icon in the status bar only comes on when an app is actively using it. My nexus 4 does this. The idol the icon is always there.
IMO, its probably just a software GUI change that Alcatel did. Unless it is draining the battery more than usual.
Non taken .. LOL..
Bluetooth and Wifi, when on do constantly show up on my nexus devices..
Location icon however, on stock lollipop will only appear when the GPS actually is in use. IE: It will appear when I load up google maps and disappear when I turn it off (on stock 5.1.1 on nexus 5 and 9).
I thought this was a feature baked into lollipop which is why I was asking. But from I'm hearing it's not.
Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply.. much appreciated.
BTW:
Looks like it's default behavior on at least one other device:

Maybe there is a secret Chinese system app that is continually tracking you with location? Haha
I was concerned about this too, and looked into it, I can 100% confirm that it's a software change. On the stock Idol 3 ROM, the location icon in the task bar merely shows that location is on, NOT THAT GPS is active.
If you're skeptical, download a GPS monitor app (some available without root, better ones available with root). You can confirm for yourself that the GPS monitor pings each and every time you use a location-based app (map, weather, etc), but not otherwise, even though the location icon is on.
It's constantly on for my Idol 3, but not my Moto X with CM 12.1.

Thanks for the reply. Nice to know it's not just MY phone. On my 6045i it's been happening quite a while if not from the beginning but it's very annoying as I have not yet found a way to disable it. Even running "pm set-install-location" from a shell doesn't stop the popup. Normally the setting would be under settings, apps or settings, storage but doesn't appear to be.
I'd compare this to some manufacturers adding an NFC icon. They think the user wants to know (all the time) if a setting is on or off.
the icon appears for me always; even after I turn location OFF in the settings...
so is it a bug or is it on purpose?
i've noticed if you turn off the location and then back on, the icon doesn't show up until something does request location, but then after that the icon stays there forever
ps. i'm glad i found this thread i thought i was going crazy
Thanks for the module.

Location-Based Smart Lock

Does anyone else use the smart lock based on location and get inconsistent behavior? I work from home, so I spend about 90% of my time here. I set up smart lock for the location. Sometimes, it works like a champ. Other times, not so much. I've currently been "at home" for the past 14 hours or so, but it keeps insisting on a fingerprint or pin. It's making me crazy.
If anyone has found a solution to this issue, I'd appreciate it.
Oh, also, a reboot doesn't help. I really wish they had added wifi network as an option.
I'm seeing the same issues.
It seems to me that it is working after using Google Maps and clicking on the button to locate my position.
I think it helps if wifi is on and google location history is on, along with high accuracy locations.
my wifi is always on and locations are set to high accuracy with history on and it still finds a way to mess up
every time its happening i clear google location history, clear maps cache and data then open map again to check then its right
happening almost always once week
i may try to factory reset but have to wait till weekend, so i have time in case something get out of whack
This happened to me yesterday. I was home but it kept trying to ask for my pin. It turns out my pinned home location in the smart lock setting was turned off. You can manually edit the location and turn it on/off, which I found out yesterday.
My experience with location based smart lock has been bad across three different andriod devices.
Using the Bluetooth smartlock with my gear s2 has been flawless though.
Was happening to me to. Here's what I did yesterday and seems to have fixed it..
Go into the smart lock settings and delete/remove all saved locations, devices, etc. Now back all the way out and go back and add everything back. A reboot might help afterwards also.
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
I turned that crap off. For that reason as well on the s7e. Imediately turned it off on the s8+. Same issues with the app IFTTT and recipes, sometimes it works and sometimes it wont.
I have had nothing but difficulty with it also. Going to turn it off and try the Bluetooth paired with smartwatch.

I solved it on my phone. I switched off every other SMART lock feature and just left Trusted Places on. Been working for over a day now after having not worked at all for 3 or 4 months.
Obviously one of the other Smart Lock features - voice, trusted devices or on-body detection is interfering with trusted places, but not sure which one at this stage.

Question New Pixel 7 Pro: Tap to wake and Lockscreen display not working

I need some advice on troubleshooting this one.
Brand new P7P, turned on Tap to Wake and "Always show time and info" on the lockscreen. It only ever works after a reboot *before* I log in the first time. Once I log in,that's it,screen is black when I lock it and it won't tap to wake.
I've removed the screen protector in case it was messing with the proximity sensor. I ran the phone in safemode and both *do* work in safemode,so I suspect it's an app on startup causing this.
What I need help with is how can I whittle down the culprit without removing all the apps one by one? Is there an app that will allow me to stop apps starting up at boot time and add them one by one?

Mine works on every part of my lock screen.
Any chance you're using lift to wake? Besides that, I have everything else on the same as you.
Edit: Just reread your post. Do you have a lot of apps? You could force stop every single one of them and test to see what happens to be sure that it's an app.

Yeah I have quite a few,but I think I'd rather try this first than start uninstalling and reinstalling the lot.
Not fixed, but getting somewhere. This is related to Bluetooth in some way.
If I turn off Bluetooth and reboot the phone,AOD works. I unlock the phone,it still works.
If I turn on Bluetooth AOD immediately breaks again until I turn off Bluetooth AND reboot.
I thought it might be my fitness band so disconnected and uninstalled the app, but the problem persisted. I have no other devices permanently using Bluetooth, so I'm starting to think this is a Bluetooth bug rather than a specific app now

If the fitness band allows you to take pictures remotely, it is possible that it recognizes it as a keyboard and that this interferes due to some bugs

Good point. This is why I tried to uninstall the app and disconnect the fitness band entirely, just to rule it out. Unfortunately, even once uninstalled, after a reboot with BT off AOD worked, but the moment I turned BT on AOD broke.
I can't think of any other apps using the BT at the moment but having a think. Will post more info if/when I get it.
Finally figured it out thanks to the hint by LaNy_6. This *is* down to Android Auto, but it’s not immediately obvious how or why.
To fix I went to Settings > Apps
Select See All Apps
From the top right overflow menu select Show System
Scroll Down to Android System
Select Notifications
Ensure Car Mode is selected
When I did this, I saw LaNy_6’s screenshot for the Android System notification that says “Driving App is running – tap to exit driving app” in my notification shade.
After doing this, AOD/tap to wake/lift to wake all suddenly work as expected.
Please note that upon rebooting the Driving App notification shows again and you have to tap it to go away. Again,no idea why.
I have no idea why, but I’m guessing every reboot the phone was put in to driving mode. I have never connected it to a car, there’s no reason for this to happen, but because I didn’t see the notification it never got exited from it seems. There’s no other indicators that it’s in driving mode, the phone works as normal other than the AOD problem.
