[Q] Antenna Broken? very low signal to none - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Referring to my old post where i have IMEI = 0 , i saw somewhere that for some carriers is a normal situation (but i doubt)
I tried stock and a lot of ROMS and results is always same. Sometimes it can't connect on the carrier, and when it can it's quite always empty bar on top (or worse, NO SERVICE), so i barely can phone or receive any.
Signal strenght is usual between -109 to -113dBm
Sometimes it goes up for seconds at -70 but after few seconds go down .. Never got this issue with my MOTO G
On a sotware point of view, it always worked fine. After some ROMs jump i had this problem.
I hope i can fix it without giving to assistance, need it for work
It was bought through amazon.de xt1032 8gb

same problem here, did you solve that?

Negative,
we tried a lot of solutions, but none so far seems to fix our problems.
At least 5 users here in XDA had the same problem.
Did you do a "fastboot erase all" previously? (i mean, that could be the cause, we are gathering all info, so if you could give us your would be appreciated)

Don't you think we can wait a lil bit more to find someone who will fix it?
Or just give it back to Motorola for repair ?

Can someone please help with my Fuze?

I dropped my phone last night for only the second time in my nearly one year ownership, and (I can't confirm if it was right after) since then my WiFi is not working. When i open Comm Mgr the blue loading icon (NRG rom) spins and then nothing happens; the WiFi does not initialize.
Running EnergyROM, tried Leo and Phoenix2, reflashed radio, clean OS install, after customizations, etc. I can't seem to fix the problem, and I am saddened by the fact that I think that the drop somehow killed my WiFi (GPS, cellular radio all work fine). Is it even possible to knock out ONLY the WiFi radio?
Any suggestions, please? Thanks for the help!
try hard resetting or re-flashing a new/the same rom. if it's still a problem, then it's probably a hardware issue
Interesting
I brought my Touch Pro second hand and the wifi has never worked, when I first got the phone I posted something about it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551634
it seems that it is a common hardware fault..
Sorry

Thanks Stuart, that really does infuriate me....Merry Christmas, huh?
Along with yourself, my phone was purchased second hand. Well actually, that's not entirely true; it was new but from an at&t user in the States who upgraded and sold for profit.
Anyone know if there is any recourse with the carrier if it has been under a year, given that I am not the person who purchased the phone?
Thanks,
Chris
Anyone? Please?
Not sure, you can try calling them.
I dropped my fuze in a sink full of water and about a week later my 3G stopped working. My wifi stopped working a long time ago as well.

Well - if you're not using AT&T as your carrier then my guess is that they're not going to do anything for you. What you might try is contacting HTC directly - perhaps it's still under a factory warrenty.

Lost touch screen control

OK, now I have a problem.
If I turn my xoom off and then on again the touchscreen will not respond to any input, only hardware buttons work.
If I hold volume up and power button to restart, it restarts and everything works OK. I can but it to sleep and wake it up and still everything works. Everything works until I turn it off and on again, then the problem returns and I need to hold volume up and power button to restart it again to get the touch screen working.
I searched the net but didn't find anything similar.
Any ideas?
is it still stock or you rooted / update kernel ?

Its complitly stock wifi only Xoom, bought from US about two weeks old.
I tried Factory reset, it didn't change anything.
Strange thing is that volume up and power reset fixes it every time. And it works fine until i turn it off again. What does this volume up and power button command do exactly, soft reset? If soft reset fixes it, it can't be a hardware problem or can it?
If I were you I would return it cuz to me that sounds like a defect with your xoom. But if u messed with it (rooting/unlocking) they won't even touch it.

Like i already said, i haven't messed with it, it's completely stock.
About returning it... The problem is that i'm in Europe and i bought my Xoom from US, so i'm not really excited about sending it back.
Is it somehow possible to install the current android 3.0.1 rom again? Without unlocking and rooting?
I do not know if it works on the xoom but other tablets have a calibration ini file that you can place on the root of your SD card and reboot letting it recalibrate the touch screen? Let me know and I can send that to you?

Thanks for trying to help! I'm not sure i want to mess with this yet. I talked to Motorola about my problem and the seemed very interested in my problem, so i will wait and see what they suggest.
Any news from there? I have a similar situation here (malfunctioning touchscreen, and I'm from Europe).
You can read my story here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036009
My malfunctioning is slightly different from yours, but I'm interested in what Motorola says for a problem like this.

Really? I haven't seen anything like my problem in forums, and everyone told me that my problem is "strange" :S
However, just in case, have you thought about how to return the Xoom from Europe to US? Or are you directly talking with Motorola to file a RMA practice? After all, we should have one year of international warranty by Motorola, isn't it?

In fact someone from Motorola US contacted me and offered help, so I can't really say anything bad about Motorola, they are really friendly and helpful. They offered to replace my Xoom, but later discovered that i'm not in US and suggested that I should be able to get a replacement from europe.
Before I was contacted by Motorola US, I sent a email to Motorola UK and they also apologized for the problems I had and offered to replace my Xoom, only problem is that they don't have any in stock at the moment, so I have to wait about two weeks.
As my Xoom works great after I force reboot it, it's not a problem for me to wait, I can use my Xoom until I get a replacement.
I would like to thank Motorola for the great support that they have offered me and I will update this thread when my issue is resolved.
But back to your problem, I suggest that you contact your nearest Motorola office, i'm sure they will try to help you.

I'm trying to do it right now
A little update.
I have been using my faulty Xoom for over two weeks now. I didn't turn it off so it worked until today. Today i tried to install a app from Market and My apps crashed, so i tried to stop it and this caused Launcer to FC (Does Launcer FC cause a automatic reboot?). The screen went black and in about 20 seconds it did show me the lock screen and i had no touch screen control. So i force rebooted it and now it doesn't even start up anymore, it's stuck on boot animation.
So it's starting to get really frustrating... I'm even considering to buy another Xoom, but this really isn't a solution, i have no use for two (if i ever get a replacement).
Has anyone any ideas? Why is it now stuck on boot animation, doesn't this look like a software problem? Is there any way to push clean images to it without unlocking? I understand that unlocking will void my warranty?
Is it possible to flash the official stock images without unlocking?
Ok, i got it to boot up again. I did Wipe data/factory reset and now it boots up again, but still no touch control.
And it seems that i have confirmed that doing too many force reboots will mess up the system.
BTW, there is a way to get into Android recovery on WIFI only Xoom, i wish i had known this before, "adb reboot recovery" works.
Can someone please answer my question, is it possible to flash the official stock images without unlocking? Maybe that will fix my touch screen control problem...
I've having this same issue but mine is worse.. the touchscreen is not working AT ALL.. only the power button works..
I can restart the xoom with the volume up power button but after it restarts still no response from the touchscreen!
What can I do to fix this?
Any help would be appreciated..

[Q] Have to Reboot to get the Network Back<<<<

ok, so i have this thing for a lil over a month now i think maybe more....
but i have noticed that no matter what Rom or Kernel, even Stock.
if im in an area where i lose signal.....it may NEVER come back unless i reboot my phone. not a big deal in most cases but unless i look to check i may have no network for a couple hours before i notice that i have to reboot my phone. which means i get no calls and no text.
is there a fix for this or is this just something that i am experiencing??

that is strange that it does not auto-reconnect. my suggestion would be to try a different modem than the one that you have been using, if you have not already tried all 3. find them here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1173704
both odin and cwm flashable versions. maybe you'll have better luck with signal with a different modem, so that your signal doesn't drop completely at all.
on my SD card i have had all three modems for a while now that i had been flashing to see which one i would stick with. but my phone has been doing this since day one. on any rom or kernel or modem. i just wanted to know has anyone else seen this or is this just specific to my phone........
at that point i would be looking to get another one.

you may not have to reboot - have you tried just toggling airplane mode on and then back off? that restores data when it goes out for a lot of people.
if you've tried that, and it doesn't work... not sure what to tell you, except to exchange the phone.
i rarely ever have a strong signal - usually worse than -100 dbm, especially at my house - but i've never had the problem you are describing.
hope you get it worked out. maybe contact at&t or samsung for support also, while you are on the stock ROM.
So far the airplane thing seems to work. so i will ride with that, it doesnt seem to happen but once a day or so......so if i can just do that then i will just deal.
thanks for the idea bruh.

Mobile data issue

Hi guys!
It's horrible... I really don't want any more. My sensation seems to be a little bit angry and so it doesn't let me access the mobile network.
I live in austria and my carrier is "3".
The issue only happens in sense roms (i tried all ICS sense roms here). Actually i'm using CM9 and it works without any problems BUT i love sense and i want it back.
The issue (and things i've tried so far):
only the uploadarrow blinks at the "H" symbol in the taskbar and i can't access the internet while this happens...
while i'm surfing with my browser (maxthon) it mostly works
in apps like "funny jokes" or "draw something" it doesn't work
the APN settings are correct
i also tried to edit the build.prop, but without success
So that's the actual situation and i really need your professional help. Please tell me everything you would try! I'm really grateful for every tip!
I'm sorry for my probably bad english, but i think you guys are the only group of people who could help me and so i try it in this language

Hi,
Go to the market and find an app called "Getril".
See if you have the optimum combination of radio/RIL.
Sent telepathically from my pyramid
oh... such a speedy answer ^^
thx for the clue, but i checked that already - it matches.
You've got the opposite problem that most people have with mobile data. For most people it works perfectly on Sense and the H blinks on and off when on CM9/10.
But that's for T Mobile USA users. For 3 users maybe it's backwards.
In the USA (and this may be a USA only answer) the problem may have had something to do with how the ROM differentiated between APN values for MMS and full Internet.
Check your APN's and make sure they match what they are supposed to. Unfortunately I can't tell you what they are supposed to be because I don't use the 3 network, but a google search should easily provide you with that information. If your APN looks like its supposed to....then that's tougher to solve.
hey skipjacks!
hmm... ok - i didn't know that the t-mobile issue is like mine but opposite. Interesting.....
Would it probably help, to install this patch for t-mobile users?
The APN settings are correct, i checked them really often. Or did you mean something different i didn't understand? :silly:

No that's exactly what I meant.
If you are talking about the ARHD path Malybru was refferencing, yeah sure. Flash it. Can't hurt. Worst it can do it bork up the ROM's compatibility with the 3 network. But since you would be getting to Sense by retoring a backup or a fresh install anyway, who cares? Worst you'd have to do is restore the backup again.
If it doesn't work though we're back to square one. Have you searched the thread of the Sense rom you want to use? Or all Sense roms for that matter to see if this is a common issue with Sense and the 3 network? Maybe a google search too. If there's a common element between your phone and someone elses it's a lot easier to diagnose (mainly because someone may have already diagnosed it and solved the problem! Ha!)
Ok guys...
The problem is, that there are only a few people from austria here and the chance that someone has the same problem with a sensation combined with the 3 network is really small...
But anyway - i searched now several minutes and didn't find any helpful answer. This circumstance makes me a little bit sad...
The second thing is, that i don't know where to find this patch for the tmous issue... It would be very nice, if someone could share a link to this patch.
So if there is any advice - tell me!
greetz and thx

Hi,
T mob link is HERE
Just above the normal downloads.
Well, thank you! That's unfair, because it's so small... *g*
I'm going to try it immediately!
Sorry for doubleposting, but i tried the tmous patch already and there is no improvement.
I felt confident that this could work, but it doesn't. Same thing. Upload Arrow shows me, that there is traffic, but no download --> nothing works.
2 extra infos:
The problem is NOT, that i never have a connection. The mobile data works often, but sometimes i have to wait minutes to get online again. As long as i'm using my phone actively, the connection works but especially after being in standby mode several minutes it stops working... That's very annoying.
Second thing:
What's the difference between normal roms and sense roms? I checked the build.prop in both versions and there are many differences between them. Especially the part with the mobile data settings is much different in cm roms... Could there be a solution? Sorry - i'm very interested in these things, but i'm a noob at android developing. Please give me an explanation
okay.... after i had done all things you recommended, i flashed an GB RUU. When i use GB it works.
Afterwards i also flashed the original OTA ICS update - same as usual. Mobile data doesn't work.
Please tell me why!! Even with an original ICS an no root or something like that, it doesn't work.
Meanwhile i also contacted my provider. They said that there is everything fine...
Any suggestions? There must be a little thing on my cell, that prevents mobile data to work... Strange, isn't it?
greetz
Edit: sorry 4 triple posting But it's so important for me...

HTC One S (Helicopter SOLVED)

Hi there!
I just figured out that in "WCDMA Preffered" mode, in call time signal strength reach 16-17 asu makeing screen go crazy, than I simply set "WCDMA Only" and signal strength has stabilized with 12-13 asu or less in call time. The issue dissapear..
You can set it up eighter entering "Test menu" (*#*#3424#*#*) or in "Settings - Mobile Data - Network Mode - (WCDMA Only)
NOTE: The setting persist after reset so you don't need to reapply it every time.
Later edit: My test was made in a high signal area from my carrier. Now I'm testing in a lower signal strenght area (neutral zone) and my asu is 6-7 and this is great.
Enjoy your HTC One S
Soo far the issue gone. Keep this up (vote and say thx)
Hi again, after 3 days testing my theory the issue seems to completely gone. I reactivate long press home button eveything is normal.
Ohh.. just a little thing forgot to mention that doing this you lost 2 lines of signal. No more helicopter but -2 lines cover and probably this ain't so helpfull those with allready low cover in some areas. BUT this seems to be the only way to get rid of this issue.
My final decision!
Edit: Please pin my topic!
Sent from my HTC One S using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I have tried that but it resets to the default setting when you restart the phone.
EDIT: Seems to stay at that setting now. Will see how it goes.

This issue manifest most often durring calls when gsm signal interact with capacitive sensor. So you can test it very simple by makeing a call even to your free carrier number, put on speaker and tri to browse the web durring call or just play with the menu.. open / close apps..
Up topic
Its 9 days for me since the issue gives no signs comming back.

Helicopter still happens with the update but not as much.
Hi every one!
I did managed to Unlock / Root / S-OFF my HTC One S, i had some issues with the CWM untill i got a good recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-villec2.img but i still not receive any update from HTC..
Finally the issue is continue to manifest so.. the only thing we can do at this moment is switching to "WCDMA Only" as i sayd before.
This is a hardware issue that i read about .. there are 2 HTC One S models (probably motherboard series) and one of them has this issue.. so do what i did and stop searching for answers, this is the only way without risking of bricking your device or void your warranty searching for a better solution.
Enjoy it as it is or.. buy a new one if you can't live with it the setting !
Could a software update not solve the problem? I thought htc knew about the issue.
