Battery Drops - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi again,
If having a problem with my music effects in settings wasn't enough, I have a problem with battery drop too. It seems that when I reboot my phone, the battery seems to drop as you can see in the screenshot. I have deleted batterystats.bin and recalibrated using the app "One Power Guard" but that didn't seem to work :/ any suggestions? Cheers

Battery drain help

Hello guys
I have since 1 week a very weird problem my phone is very warm on the top of the phone and the battery just drains down I charge it in the night so my phone is 100% in the morning and when I get it out of my pocket after 1 hour 68% left and the top of the phone is just very hot
How can I solve this I don't have the time to bring it away because I need my phone for school and work
This problem started when I upgraded to 4.2.2 the Spanish one and I flashed back to 4.1.2 yesterday but the problem is still here
I also deleted everything on my phone wiped it nothing helps

I'm having the same problem, although phone is not getting any hot or anything like thath.
But battery is draining like hell. In a few second it will go from 15% to 0% and phone will shut down automatically.
Also when phone is fully charged it will drain battery pretty quick even with screen switched off and just music playing it will go dwon from 100 to 70 in one hour.
I've switched off all push email, facebook stuff etc. not usibg 3g much, got no clueue whats causing this to be honest.

You could try Greenify or Wakelock which will point you in the direction of what is using resources and to hibernate the offenders.
Quite useful apps.
I've tried greenify and it was causing more damage than good

App still draining battery after uninstalled?

I have been using the app tweetcaster and it started to drain my battery, maybe off an update or something. So I uninstalled it and downloaded another twitter app, fine and dandy. Only thing is I checked my stats and com.handmark.tweetcaster is still draining my battery!! This is absolutely murdering my battery life! Any help would be awesome, thanks.

Weird. Try clearing your cache.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
The only thing I can think of, if clearing the cache doesn't work is that it did not uninstall correctly. Try going to your Settings -> Apps and swipe over to All. make sure that process doesn't exist in that list. It sounds like it did not uninstall correctly somehow.

Have you charged your phone to full since then? The battery stats aren't cleared until a nearly full charge. That's why it is still showing.

That is bizarre. You could try clearing cache as others suggested? Are you running stock or custom recovery?
El daddy's post is correct. The app is not still draining battery.
The graph shows battery usage for 10 hours.
If that app had shown 40% after 5 hours and your battery had gone down to 75%. You uninstalled it at 5 hours. If your battery was at 50% after 10 hours It would still show as 20% after 10 hours. Even though you uninstalled it 5 hours previously.
Just charge your phone back up to full which will trigger a reset on the usage calculator. All should be fine after that

To clear the cache partition:
Turn your phone off.
Hold volume down and power, this will boot you into the bootloader.
Scroll to recovery using the volume keys and select recovery using the power button.
It will boot into recovery and you'll see an android laying on its back. Press and hold power, then immediately press volume up and let go of both. (it may take a few tries as it's tricky to get right. If you can't get it in time, the phone will reboot and you'll have to start over)
Once the menu opens, choose clear cache partition. It will wipe cache and the phone should reboot automatically.
The boot up will take more time as usual as the OS re-builds cache.
Hopefully this helps. I'm not sure it will work because I've never seen an uninstalled app drain battery, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Okay cool thanks. I use to ROM and everything when I had a captivate, and galaxy s 2, but this phone is so polished and smooth stock I never saw the point to. Didn't know I could get into recovery without being rooted with a custom recovery installed. I'll do this when my phone charges to about 50%, its basically dead right now

Your wakelocks or horrible. You need BBS as stated, but the instant drop is indicative of a bug in the stock rom or kernel. If it keeps doing that after the wakelock issues are resolved, you may need to flash another rom.

I think Google search incorporates Google Now which yes, mega battery drain in my opinion especially if it is polling for location constantly.
edit: that looks like my battery stats when I don't try to conserve energy and have heavy usage.

So how do I fix this? Turn off location would somewhat render Google Now to be useless, as does turning it off.

Battery usage

Hi guys, I've just bought a Motorola moto g 16gb and then I've installed android 4.4.2 and I noticed that the battery stats doesn't show the battery usage of many user apps..
Is it a bug or not?
(Before this phone I had a HTC desire c with android 4.1.2 cyanogenmod)
Sent from my XT1032 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It is not a bug.. android does not show user apps battery data anymore..
Sent from my XT1033 using Tapatalk
Ah.. I found it very useful sometime..
And is it normal the percentage of battery used by the screen? (I keep it around 30/40% during the day)

It does, but it won't show any user app that is less than (I think) 4% use. He's got a user app showing up on the list in his screenshot.
What has changed is that some user app use of core OS features now get reported as Android OS/Android System where as under JB they were reported as the originating app.

OK, really need to know battery consumed, how much of that is reported to be the screen and the screen on time to see if that is an issue. It is normal for screen to be top of the list with regular usage but how much it drains (and how much screen on time you get) is basically going to be a function of your brightness settings.
Looking at your second screen shot I can see a couple of things you might want to investigate/change.
Wifi is always on - fine if you are actually connected to wifi - but if you are out and about and not using a wifi connection having wifi enabled will add a significant amount to your idle drain rate. You should also disable 'Scanning always available' in the Advanced Wifi Settings (Settings/Wifi/Menu Button.Advanced).
Your cell signal is often quite poor - not a lot you can do about it but that will cause faster drain when you are connected to mobile data.
Your phone is waking up regularly when not in use. There could be numerous causes for this, but most likely it is having location set to High Accuracy or Battery Saver - the phone is regularly collecting info from your cell tower connections and surrounding wifi networks to feed back to Google to get a location fix, and apps that like to know your location may be asking for a fix regularly. Depending on what you use location for you may wish to consider turning it off entirely or running in Device Only mode.
You've used GPS - some people have experienced an issue with a continually higher drain rate after using GPS - it's intermittent - for some it is everytime after using GPS, some most of the time, others very occasionally. A reboot will fix if this is an issue (it doesn't look like it is a problem but it's hard to tell - it's most obvious if the battery drains in airplane mode).
I turned off the GPS right now, disabled 'scanning always available' and set the brightness as auto.. I'll write here if this will increase my battery life or not, thank you anyway

You might want to keep it between 10 to 20% manually adjusting to higher levels if you're going outside, for the brightness sensor to not be working and therefore, consuming more battery.
From this morning at 10a.m. with 94% of battery I reached the 9p.m. with 7% of battery and I used it a bit more of my average use.. That's better than before (I had to charge my phone at 8p.m.), so thank you guys

If you aren't using your phone regularly then Android OS/SystemUI/phone idle will always be at the top of the list!
Since you're rooted, install BetterBatteryStats or Wakelock Detector and see which apps are preventing your device from sleeping... Also, Install greenify and hibernate all apps except the ones which you would like to get notifications from like whatsapp...

Seems normal... Even I have the same... You can't make out by looking at it... You need apps Like Wakelock Detector : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector
Follow these steps:
1. Open Wakelock Detector settings and put a tick on "Statistics Since unplug"
2. Charge your device for sometime.
3. As soon as you remove the device from charge, turn off the screen and don't use it for few hours.
After few hours, Turn on the screen and open wakelock detector and check "Wakeup Triggers", "Kernel Wakelock" and "CPU Wakelock" and see what's preventing the device from sleeping...
Now once you Greenify those applications, you ought to have a good battery life!
