[Q] Which wireless charger should I buy ? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently purchased a Google Nexus 5 and I'm looking to buy a wireless charger. I've narrowed down the options to the official Google wireless charger (2013) and the Tylt vÜ. Keep in mind that I have the capacities to buy either one but not both. Any help would appreciated. So according to your opinion which one should I buy ? Thank you for your time !!!

This should of been posted in the "Accessories" section. I would go with the Tylt because it is great quality (not saying the Nexus brand isn't) and it also has the functionality of tilting upwards.
The downside is that the Tylt charger cost more than the Nexus branded charger but if you don't care for the tilt functionality then get the Nexus brand. At least you'll have a few more bucks in your pocket to get some beers .

If you are leaning towards the Tylt, read the accessories forum threads regarding overheating issues. As of right now, the only real guaranteed "fix" is to open it up and disconnect the top coil to keep it from overheating your N5. I had it, and really liked it until it happened to me. I sent it back for a refund due to Tylt kind of turning a blind eye to the issue at the time. They still haven't completely rectified the issue either.
I actually use a Nokia DT-900 and the LG N4 Charging Orb. Both work flawlessly.

I bought the LG WCP-300 charger and it works very well.

If you travel about, maybe go camping often etc. Maybe you should consider a battery pack wireless charger like the Lugulake

Use caution: I bought a zen wireless charger. The phone has a silicon case and when charging it becomes extremely hot.

Hi all, i've bought this wireless charger to charge my Samsung Galaxy S3 (with the included coil, it works), AND my brand new LG Nexus 4, and for this smartphone, it doesn't work.

It claims to be QI compatible, but mine doesn't work with my Nexus 4... Anyone else tried this charger ?
wow, that thing adds wireless charging to a phone that doesn't have wireless charging. that's pretty cool. sorry it didn't work with the N4 tho

yes, it works because Samsung Galaxy S3 already have a special pinout just under the backside cover.
This pinout is intendented to be used with the official charging kit wich will become available in few weeks from Samsung.
But others manufacturers have not wait much longer to create their own kit for Galaxy S3
If delivery works fine, i will receive an other wireless QI charger tomorrow... A philips one... I will post here if it works.

It also has a few other neat features like remote thermometer. However I'm returning mine for a few reasons.
1. the atomic clock set didn't work
2. viewing angle extremely limited
3. bright blue charging indicator
I'd probably have kept it if not for #1.

Ive been following the other threads on qi chargers for quite some time and most of the ones that are not working either has :
1) contact type charging (i.e sleeve with metal contactor to the charging pad)
2) wireless charging/qi standard but with lower rating for battery capacity (i.e nokia for example, rated at 300 mAh)
from the looks of it, this doesnt look like its a contact type..so there might be a slight chance that this might work..here's one sold in amazon :

[Q] Wireless charger that will work for both Nexus 4 and Galaxy S3?

I just recently got a Nexus 4, and my girlfriend got a Galaxy S3 for christmas. I know the S3 doesn't have native wireless charging (requires some sort of adapter to the pinout under the back cover, I think?), but I was wondering if there's either: A) a way I can add wireless charging to the S3 that would be compatible with the recently released charging orb through the play store, or B) an option that would somehow work for both, if the S3 can't be made compatible with the orb.
I made an effort to search through other questions to make sure this hadn't been asked before, so forgive me if it has and I missed it!
Rumors have it that Samsung is developing a kit, if its Qi compatible then all Qi chargers will work with it.
The real place to ask the question is in the S3 forums. If they make it Qi youre good, if not then its on them.
I got the adapter from fast tech for the S3 (cheapest I could find it at $15 including shipping) for my Boyfriend's S3. I have a Nexus 4. Once the adapter and my Qi chargers arrive I will report back and let you know. I did not order the orb, but I did get the cheap $35 one from fast tech, and the double Duracell one from amazon.
I think I should get at least the adapter and the double duracell one next week. We also have a variety of cases for the s3 to test with.
I'm hoping that orb will work for galaxy s3. Not only I'm getting useless nexus 4i also ordered the orb. My wife might kill me. Lol. We got Verizon and at least a year and a half on contract left.

I, too, have an S3 and a N4, which are sharing one wireless charger (Power Qi). I had to buy a Qi receiver and apply it on top of the battery for S3. It makes the back of S3 hump a little bit, but the battery cover still snaps in. Of course, S3 feels heavier too.
That said, things work fine. Charging faster than computer usb 2.0 and slower than wall charger, but I can grab it an run whenever I want.
Review is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181042&page=6
In Vietnam it's about 37 USD per unit and the receiver is about 10 USD.

[Q] Powermat/Nexus 5 Chargin

I have a Powermat PMM-1PA that I bought when I got my Sprint HTC EVO 4G when they first came out. I am getting the Nexus 5 in 2 weeks when my contract is eligible for upgrade. None of them are or just my model? How do I tell?
Duracell Power Mats use a different standard. If you would like to use wireless charging then you will need a charger that is "Qi" compatible. Search Amazon, and there are a few threads (more than a few) on XDA. Some are inexpensive and some aren't. I prefer the Google charger for the N5, but there are many to choose from. Nokia makes some nice ones as well. Go to the accessories subsection, a nice thread there to get you started.

Hey Dcmtnbkr
How is that charger? I ordered mine right after you there were still 4 in-stock, it showed shipped with arrival today. Now I get an update from Amazon that it will ship on the 10th with an arrival of 14th (it was a prime item and in-stock when I ordered, not real happy). Is your's working well (not overheating, giving a full charge)? Thanks for any feedback.

Bummer to hear man! So far so good on the charger.
Let me preface this by saying that I received the charger at a pretty good discount in exchange for an honest review (not free, just not full price).
I've been using it on a 2amp charger, which I was a bit apprehensive to do since the stock charger is I believe 750ma. The watch does get warm to the touch, but certainly not hot at all and I suspect if I used it with a 1 amp or even 750ma charger it probably wouldn't get warm at all. I will try to confirm that tonight. I haven't had the watch itself long enough to say if this charger is any faster, but it seems to charge at a good rate. No problems getting a full charge on it and the battery lasts the same as it would had I charged it on the stock charger.
As for looks, it looks extremely similar but not exactly the same as my stock charger (although it's black, my charger is white). The material is almost like a matte rubber. I personally don't care for it, but I have weird things about texture and I know most people wouldn't care one way or the other. The only real difference that I noticed is that the back is slightly larger and the angle is slightly different. The LED lights on the front are a different color as well. It is a tricolor LED which shows a different color for charging, charged, and standby (nothing sitting on the dock).
The dock does have a foam ring on the bottom as well, i guess to help it not slide? Not sure if this is effective or not. Doesn't seem like it would be but I'm not sure.
Let me know if you guys have any questions, but I'm overall very happy with it.
Thanks for the review and pictures. I will let my order stand and hopefully it will ship by the end of the week. I want to keep a charger at work for those days I forgot to charge my watch at home. It is half the price of the original Samsung charger, and is perfect for my needs of an occasional charge.
I also have a Moto 360 2nd Gen and I keep an aftermarket charger at work for it. It makes the watch slightly warm also, but does a good job of 100% charging the watch.

They updated my status again and sent me the charger on the 9th. It works very well, same experience as Dcmtnbkr, does not overheat, gives me a very fast charge. The magnet is not as strong, but adequate. Overall very happy with my extra charger for the office.
I have one of those cheap aftermarket (china) Moto 360 chargers. It is just OK. It will sometimes only charge to 98% and then seem to act up, it also makes the watch a little warm. I keep it at my office for emergencies only.
That is why I was a little skeptical of the S2 aftermarket charger. Also I am charging an S2 3G version of the watch which is a little thicker, but it seems to work great.

This thread is about an aftermarket Gear S2 charger. It is about half the price of the Samsung OEM charger. It so far seems to be a great charger.
I have tried my Gear S2 on the Moto 360 charger. Very unstable results for me, will start to charge then stop, I was able to get a good charge one time, overall not a very good solution. That is why the Gear S2 aftermarket charger was interesting to me. I have seen some other threads where people are having mixed results with a Moto 360 charger.
I have also seen a wide variety of aftermarket chargers pop up on the web that advertise for the Gear S2. Some of the photos look like a Moto 360 charger, I would be skeptical of these. The link in the post is for a product that at least for me looks and acts much like the OEM charger.
I understand the thread is about a specific after market charger, I just wondered if there was something special about the wireless charging protocol Samsung is using. Had you stated the details about why you chose this one in the OP or anywhere else in the thread I wouldn't have commented.
Anyway, thanks for the recommendation I'll probably order one, it's nice to have spares.

I received the charger from the link. Seems to work well. It may run slightly hotter than the stock charger, but otherwise, it's good. The magnet is a little less strong too, but the watch is still held in place.

Looking for a good new battery

Guys, my note 4 is almost 2years now, my battery is getting old, and may be it's time to buy a new one, because i intend to go on with this wonderful Note 4.
So, which new battery should i look for? OEM? Some special brand? My goal is to avoid those fake pseudo Samsung batteries, and pay what it costs for a really good one.
What's your opinion?

EDIT. What about Anker or Zerolemon? Are these better than Oem?
I recently bought a battery for my note 4 as well. To avoid any issues I went to the samsung service center and ordered it from there. I suggest that you check the official online store of Samsung.
I bought the Anker 2-pack with travel charger from amazon. They're holding up pretty well. I've bought Anker for my other phones as well and have never had any issues with their product.

They're talking about a 2-pack of internal after market (non-Samsung) batteries. Anker is a good brand, as far as I've seen.
Here, take those ones.My opinion is that this are the best ones. Not cheap but long live, good for using.https://www.amazon.de/original-JuBaTec-Akku-Samsung-SM-N910F-EBBN910BB/dp/B00UMMHG76
If you don't mind your phone being a brick, try using Zerolemon or Hyperion? If you use Zerolemon you might need a kernel fix though!

I killed my Note 4 battery by using a cheap eBay Qi receiver. Charging made it very hot, and the battery swelled and died.
I bought two replacements, both supposedly Samsung OEM batteries. I got one from Sprint, and another from Amazon. They look identical, but the one from Amazon is almost certainly a cheap clone. It doesn't hold a charge as well as the one I got from Sprint, which is probably the true OEM.
By the way, I switched to the Samsung OEM Qi wireless charging cover, and now it charges fine with no heating up. If you want to go wireless charging, I strongly recommend avoiding the cheap crap.
I've been buying Anker batteries for my S3, Note 3 and now Note 4 and I recommend them. Solid and reliable and if you have any issues, Anker are great to deal with.
ANKER for sure. Equal or better than OEM quality, and you really don't want to mess with low quality batteries. Be careful of supposed OEM batteries on ebay or Amazon, many are counterfeit.
This is the first time I've been disappointed by Anker. Bought a 2pk a while ago. They barely fit in the phone and kept popping out of their charger too. They sent me a replacement and they weren't much better. I pulled the bottom plastic piece off, scraped off the black adhesive and glued the bottom piece back on. Fit better. Still kept the old ones too. Rotated them all. Used a rubber band to keep the first two in the charger. Well they all pretty much started to bulge. Some worse than the others. I gave up on them. I have Anker batteries for 3 different phones, and these are clearly inferior in basic build quality to them. So I abandoned them.
Went with the Akku Polarcell. I also have a new OEM battery. After about 3 months of rotating the two, I feel ilke the Akku last a little longer than the OEM. Purely perception. I don't have the time nor inclination to test them properly. But here's someone else's review on here: Polarcell Review

Don't think so. I've been using a Choetech wireless charger for 18 months with no problems. As long as the charger and receiver are Qi compatible there shouldn't be any problems. What will kill your battery is using wired charging with fast charging enabled all the time.
