Helo everyone,
I recently unlocked the bootloader on my A510 and I'm wondering if I need to lock it back, just to be sure to have the OTA if one day Acer decides to publish it.
Thanks in advance for your answers
no idea i assume it would detect it and not allow the updated if this is the case i wouldn't worry.
when JB comes out just go here and install the jb update by copying to the sd card and rebooting into update mode.
btw it should be really soon as in last week nov first week dec soon for the 510 that is no idea on 511.

Hello, I just tried to relock the bootloader with the following:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem lock
I do the manipulation to set it to lock and it says :
Please flash official system.img and try again
ConfirmLockMode: LockMode verified failed
I never installed any custom rom or recovery, this is just nuts. Anybody have any idea ?
Regards
Edit: maybe I should go ask in the dev section ?
Tried to post this confirmation over on the developer "How to Root" thread, but evidently I haven't posted enough yet
I used the instructions here and they worked great. It was fast and easy, and most importantly for me, did not require the unlock from Motorola. With a brand new phone, I just wasn't up for voiding my warranty just to be able to use Titanium Backup and Wifi Tether!
yep, Motofail2Go! drjbliss is a master exploit writer!
Damn, I did the motorola unlock code which voids the warranty.
First time with a motorola phone and wasn't aware of existing methods
Is there any way to install CWM or another recovery using this method, without unlocking the bootloader?
Nope, Safestrap would be the way to go, but from what I know it is not compatible with the Photon Q....never tried it tough. The Droid 4 works great with Safestrap.
Hey guys, I used this thread to root without bootloader. Worked great after installing the ADB files to my PC and working in debug mode.
Question: I rooted in order to install an ap called reverse tether (PC internet connection powers phone internet). Now the app won't work cuz my phone is shutting down my tethering option everytime because I guess its not on my current Sprint plan. Any pointers or is there something I am missing? Total noob here. TIA
EDIT: Fixed Charge Only mode error... apparently there is some convoluted BS regarding debug mode that will disable the mass storage aspect during debug mode and then keep that setting even after a restart and leaving debug mode. I had to go back in debug mode, 1. Toggle USB Debugging to On (Settings > Developer Options [Under System]) 2. Power the phone off. 3. Power the phone on. 4. Toggle USB Debugging to Off..... still dont know about the VSNCP thing but looks like I can get a handle on it soon as well.
ORIGINAL: Hey guys after my post last night now I am running into some issues... First of all, when I plugged in my phone at work this morning, it refuses to connect as Mass Storage or Media Device MTP or Camera PTP. It lets me select it, but it doesnt save the setting. It automatically reverts back to charging mode whenever I leave the screen. It refuses to save the selection like the options are disabled. Note line 1 of the notifications "charge only"
Secondly, when I decided to restart the phone to fix this connection problem, I got this notification in line 2 of the screen shot, note: "VSNCP Registration Response Error VSNCP Error 8:Admin Prohibited" This message pops up each time the phone boots up. You can't click on it and it doesnt do anything. You can only dismiss it. Any idea what this is?
One thing I noticed this morning is that the Motorola drivers I installed yesterday came with a little PC ap that monitors the phone for updates or whatever, a little Moto logo in the task tray in the corner... now today its gone? I was thinking maybe there is some sort of scheme by Moto to sync the phones to a certain PC with that program so unless that program is running the phone only charges on PCs and doesnt recognize the storage device... but today that program is nowhere to be found on my PC.
Does the root of these problems come from working in debug mode and switching some settings maybe?
Can anyone help me out? I am a total noob that came from a CM 10.1 Epic which is looking pretty nice right about now.
Keep in mind I am a total noob. I did this root method, now I don't know how to unlock the bootloader. I am surprised that the information and how-tos are so hard to find for this phone after being out for 5 months!
TIA
For your VSNCP Error Check this thread over at Sprint
Here is the link I used to unlock mine. As far as I know the only way is to do it through the official motorola website.

Will this still work with 2.3.5?
If I'm not mistaken your on the wrong forum. This is for the photon q not the photon 4g.

FWIW I have bricked my device twice with this method and of course had no custom recovery to flash and magically fix everything. Quite a hassle but that is the price you pay for being CARELESS. Use at our own risk. One benefit is that I kept warranty. It is great for aps like tether, reverse tether, backup, etc. that require root. Dont know if I will do it again because trying to hack the phone back to operation is not fun. At least my back up phone is an Epic with CM 10.1 and wimax is all over my area unlike LTE.

Thats what I have.
Just to confirm, I did this on my Photon Q LTE running Android 4.04 with absolutely no issues since I did it over a month ago.
Just did it and it worked the first time with no problems on my photon q and with 2.3.5
This doesn't work as of the latest firmware update.

If you want root without bootloader unlock on the latest build (ASA-15) you must use this root method BEFORE updating to asa-15. Then install something like OTA root keeper and backup root and temp unroot before installing the update. Otherwise as Vivicus notes, it will not work.

I'm on ASA-14 and I can't get rooted. Every time I run this, it says exploit failed. I did a cache/data wipe from the stock recovery and even before entering my google account info and going through the startup of the phone, I still ended up with the exploit failed. Any ideas on getting the root wihtout unlocking the bootloader in ASA-14?
Currently no way to do it without unlock. Unless you were already rooted before the update your unfortunately out of luck until someone comes up with a new exploit.

Well guys, I seem to have really done it this time. I was on 4.1.2 (9.16.6) on my HDMaxx and I was having problems gaining my root access. I used Voodoo to keep root and downgraded (while I was still on 4.1.1) back to 4.0.4 and gained root, then updated all the way back up. When I did the update to 4.1.2, I seemed to have some issues with root again. RootChecker said I have root, but all my root apps said otherwise, and I was unable to update SuperUser due to the fact that it was unable to get root access. I went through the post by Dan Rosenberg (http://www.droid-life.com/2013/04/0...r-hd-running-android-4-1-2-other-devices-too/) and it reported nothing but good news. Here's where the stupidity comes in: I didn't boot back up and test to see if the root was working. I was too excited by seeing that I could (finally) unlock my bootloader. I used the motopocalypse tool, and BAM! No recovery, no rom, no nothing. All I have is a screen that says "WARNING BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED" and if I want, I could get into AP Fastboot mode. All other options (recovery, wipe, etc.) just bring me back to the indefinite screen of the unlocked bootloader. Anyone by any chance know what I could have possibly done? Thank you in advance.

Should probably be in the Q&A section -
But try this..
see if you can mount ADB and flash a custom recovery. You will need to google search or thread search for CWM ro TWRP for the xt926 (vanquish) and see if you can flash it through ADB.
that might get you recovery back and if you have a ROM or something on your SD try that.

Why are you trying to use voodoo to keep root and then downgrade/fastboot to stock? If you are downgrading and already had root on 4.1.1 you could downgrade without root, and even on 4.1.2 rooted and unlocked you just downgrade. You don't have to worry about root. Once the phone is back to stock upgrade to the latest 4.1.2 and then use the root and unlock bootloader if needed.
Is your bootloader already unlocked?
Even if your bootloader is locked you should have no problem rooting even on 4.1.2 with motochopper. And then unlock the bootloader with motopocalypse to be able to downgrade from 4.1.2.otherwose there is no downgrading. Motochopper must be used first if you don't have root or lost root on 4.1.2 in order to use motopocalypse .

I'm not having issues with that stuff anymore. What I am having issues with, Is that my phone is unlocked, no rom, no recovery, etc. All I get is a warning for the unlocked bootloader and AP Fastboot. Everything else in the boot menu doesn't work. I really need to get something figured out. Nothing seems to be working. Look at the above posts for more info on the situation.

I understand your situation and I have read the posts. What I am trying to say is that you did something wrong, and that there is no need to try to preserve root when fastbooting or downgrading with any utility because you will loose root. Your first post is confusing. You say you were on 4.1. 2 then 4.1.1 and downgraded. Was your bootloader unlocked prior to all this? Once your bootloader is unlocked, you can root on any firmware and sbf to factory settings which should remove root also. You need to re root, and to with motochopper it's the easiest. If I were you I would just sbf using matts until 1.20, upgrade all the way to 4.1.2 then root with utility. I don't see how it's not working.
Or sbf 4.1.2 and just root like stated above...

I rooted a while back. Before the 4.1.2 update came out. I was on the latest update (4.1.1) but the only way to root an HDMaxx at that time with 4.1.1 was to go back to the original 4.0.4, root, keep root using voodoo, then upgrade back to 4.1.1 again. This worked fine on 4.1.1. Then, I upgraded to 4.1.2 and I lost root (even using voodoo correctly). I tried to unlock, then wipe the phone and try to do the process over again, but now I am without rom and recovery. Plus, for whatever reason, my phone isn't responding to adb or fastboot commands. It's probably an amateur user error, but it would help if someone could point me in the right direction. My apologies for a bad initial explanation. Again, thank you in advance.

Just in case you overlooked the obvious, have you tried another USB port? My Mac only has one USB 2.0 when I boot it into Windows.
Another problem I have on occasion is that the USB cable just doesn't take for whatever reason. I have to unplug it and plug it back in and try again before anything can be flashed. The phone says its plugged but nothing transfers.
To repeat what's already been said, make sure you've gotten the updated Motorola drivers for Windows.
Make sure the Android SDK is installed and fastboot and adb are added to your PATH in Windows.
If still you have nothing, I only quickly read but I didn't notice that you'de attempted to flash a stock ROM for your carrier or not. It will wipe your data and internal SD, however it seems that whatever the problem is, that if you can get into recovery then something should work.
I'm really sorry that all I can offer is redundant and basic information but sometimes we overlook what's obvious or right in front of us, and good luck with it.
Edit: Sorry, I didn't see the battery low thing. Have you tried a simulated battery pull? Hold volume up and the power button for a bit. You're wanting to feel 10 quick vibrations.

I think I figured out the sad truth. I take back my previous statement about charging. Since my bootloader and recovery image are not functional, in addition to not having a rom, my device is therefore unable to "accept" the charge. I'm sitting down to solder together a factory cable (which forces the device to accept the charge, by going directly into the battery). I found it here: http://droidrazrroot.com/droid-razr-hacks/how-to-make-motorola-factory-cable/

Most people are not so adept nor have the tools readily available to do as you did and make their own factory cable.
That's why we went to the trouble of producing the factory cable adapters so average users could have a safe and inexpensive solution to this problem and never have to worry about it.
It's the best $10 investment you can make for your Motorola device.
Congrats on being resourceful and fixing your phone yourself!

I am updated on 4.1.2 on my razr maxx hd. I dont know what happen, but I lost root, I use moto chopper 1.1 used matts utility and i still cant get root back. I already have a Super user app on, but every time i try to root with the programs mention above it says its complete then after reboot i open up super user to update binary and it fails.
So anyways I figured well i might as well return to stock to get rid of the original root app and start over fresh.
Well I download the stock version of razr maxx hd rom. I get rid of getvar in the xml file, I open up RSD Lite (newest version) put my phone in fastboot mode. and try to flash back to stock. After I many failed attempts i always get this error
"Failed flashing process. 5/27 flash tz "tz.mbn" -> Phone returned FAIL.
On your phone:
Security downgraded version
update TZ version failed
preflash Validation failed for TZ "
My bootloader is locked never messed with it, I am on 4.1.2 android. I have downloaded all the stock roms and I always get this error
I would use THIS utitlity to flash back to stock. Then I would use that utility to root. Then I would use Voodoo root keeper to backup and disable root. Then I would update. Then I would use Voodoo to restore root. Then I would jump for joy. Then I would go about my life as usual.

Omg , that totally worked, I did get errors, but just left it alone and it flashed. Only thing thing that didn't work was the unlocked boot loader. But I am fine with that, since I don't flash roms on this phone

I rooted my RAZR HD using the latest Samsung method and got it to root on 4.1.2 build 9.30 but it got sick on the same screen. Happens every time I reboot my phone. I get past this by doing the following from the ap fast boot screen:
Press and hold power and both volume buttons. When phone turns off release power and keep holding both volume buttons. It will boot into recovery. Release volume buttons when this screen appears and wait a few seconds. Phone will boot like normal.
Still trying to search firms to find a reason for this but closest I can come to is either moto drivers or an issue with rooting and build 9.30. Hope this helps!
fix is here .. use option B method it works

I am haviing a terrible time with this Rogers Razr HD XT925 I bought used. It's running Android 4.1.2, System Version: 98.21. I've tried everything to root and I just cannot get a pass. It also has a problem where, when I factory reset it through the settings I end up in a boot loop, unless I manualy go into the recovery and reset from there. In addition, when I've tried things like Razr Utility and it reboots my phone when trying to push superuser, it also boot loops till i factory reset from stock recovery. Anyone, know what I could do? I'd like to get root and flash Safestrap or any other recovery thatll work with my Locked Bootloader

have you tried the moto site to unlock the bootloader?
i thought most 925's could be unlocked using that.
safestrap roms are very limited, and likely further limited because you have a 925 vs 926
And just to stop the flood of inevitable questions that I KNOW will come because of this:
NO! You cannot unlock the XT926 with the XT925 unlocker.
So don't ask, please!
Just unlock the bootloader...use Rosenberg's tool. Worked perfectly never had a problem with it. I have same device xt925 rogers
