[Q] Help Choosing a ROM - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am looking for a good ROM for my Nexus 5. I am looking for a ROM that is rock solid stable and is good on battery life. Features in a ROM are nice but I don't need all kinds of features. Stability and battery life are more important to me than extra features. Currently I am running purity ROM which I like but I still occasionally get bug reports that pop up so the stability is not perfect. Anyone have any good suggestions for me? I hope this is not against the forum rules. I did read the sticky. I am not asking for "The best ROM". I just want to know what ROM is a good one for me based on what I have told you. I really don't have time to flash ROMS and test them all for myself.
Disclaimer:
I know this is probably a common question but please refrain from telling me to search, try ROMs for myself, or tell me something like it is all up to user preference. I am asking a question in the questions board and if you have some good insight for me please post. If you don't just move along please. I am a college student and don't have time right now to flash all kinds of ROMS and try them for myself.

Sorry, you're post counts. A senior member should know better

This is a common question. Search and try ROMs for yourself. It's all up to user preference.

Vanilla ROMs?

Are there even any more Vanilla/plain ROMs around? All I see are based off Diamond, Xperia, and the Raphael.
i agree , me too
NOOOO!!!!!
People mods have been closing threads like this for a reason!
This is a personal choice matter. LOOK at what ROMs are available and what's installed on them. And if you a feeling frisky try them. But we are NOT going to spoon feed you!

Well said.........read and learn.
No but what I meant is that can't we have a vanilla ROM somewhere in the mix too? What if I don't want all the extras? Hmmph... Guess I'll have to use the normal HTC ROM then...

We can and do have Vanilla ROMs, You just have to open your eyes and look.
By typing this next sentence I am going against my every fiber and answering the unanswerable; maybe that makes me a hypocrite. But if you want a "Vanilla ROM" Look for "lite roms" or "nothrills' releases"
Yeah I know we have vanilla/lite/nothrills ROMs, but they're all based on some other device, usually Raphael, Xperia, or Diamond. How about a vanilla 6.1 based on Kaiser?
Erm, weren't the last 2 ROMeOs (v3.1 and/or v3.5) based on stock Kaiser ROMS?
This no good??
There are a ton of light (vanilla) roms if you just take the time to look
Here is a good list of available cooked roms:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_Cooked_ROMs
Two of my favorite light 6.1 roms are Sleuth255's v3.0 and kyphur's v3.0
Anyway, just look through the wiki link and find one that suits your needs.
EDIT: By the way, both Sleuth's and kyphur's 3.0 roms are based off a rom made for the 'kaiser'
C'mon guys. There are plenty of lite "kaiser" roms. There are just no brand spanking new ones.

Thank you for understanding.

Please recommend a ROM

(Oh, please don't kill me!)
I'm totally confused, on the net I'v found many people recommending mny different ROMs and I really don't know which to choose.
I'd like to be:
- As fast as possible.
- Lightweight (possibly Total Commander, Opera, RAR...), I can overload it with useless aplication myself
- And I don't want it to be BLACK, no! Green, blue, turquoise... anything like this is OK.
I'm thinking about "HyperDragon III Lite WM6.1 WWE ROM - Based on Diamond ROM CE OS 5.2.20273 Build 20273.1.3.3." ROM, but it is black, what I don't want.
Or austinsnyc's "OEM 5.2.19212 Lightly Customized"?
Or Laurentius26's L26_KaiserDiamond_V9? (black)
Thanks

YOu know why you can only find a lot of closed threads, and no clear "best rom" answer? Because there is no such thing...i can almost feel the hammer coming for this thread...soon it will be closed, so i will get my post in while i can.
As for the rom being black, just download some new themes that you do like, put them in the root of your storage card, and then you can select them on any rom you install by going into settings--today

I know there is no best, but it seems to me that recently some new ROMs ported from other devices come (Diamond, Omnia), so that's why I'm asking.

You rang sir?
Please please please with sugar on top. Don't be lazy. Look at what each ROM includes and use your best judgment to make a decision. Also there are plenty of user testimonials in the specific threads themselves how the ROM runs.

Archive Dead/Unsupported/Discontinued ROM

I think it's time for mods/admin to look out old rom like i said in above title, archive it, so that everything sorted again.
Forumers can start list out any known roms that have been discontinued/dead/unsupported.
PM any dev, ask for their developing status is a good start.

What are you talking about?
Each ROM thread in Development has a last released/updated date in the title and the threads are ordered by activity so its very easy to see which are current.
The INDEX thread orders all ROMs by date so its clear?
If you think this forum is messy don't consider getting a device like HOX or GSS3
So true...
yeah, I was so unclear. I dont realize that from this page to this page are all updated and undead.
So sorry.

I think the general point is that if a ROM is 'dead' then it won't get any more posts and will naturally drop backwards. Why go to the effort of archiving them, which then leads to more effort required if somebody does want to use those ROMs?
You just went from page 2 back. That includes many, very current, articles;-
TouchRecovery
TWP
Reaper
GPS Tweaks
Eng HBOOT
Do I really need to go on?
one page back, nothing much outdated. but others? nevermind. Im just trying to sort out outdated, unsupported, maybe non stable/testing rom/etc.
for example, in this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1639065 . you replied to that thread also.
new comers didn't see this as something I call, in align or sorted out. That's why that guy open up that thread.
and well, forget about this, maybe the seniors influence are higher and what others think for someone like me, meh, im just trying to be like some kind of wanna be mods or wanna be the good guy greg. bleh.
I do appreciate what your saying, but the system that is in place exists across all forums on xda and it exists because it works.
Old threads that are possibly dead still contain valid posts, fixes and even active links which will be picked up if people were ever to use the search function so should always be left.
Sywepd form my DsereiS
I'm not sure that sorting out these ROMs is your job. Or mine. Or, really, anybody else's.
What would be useful would be if genuinely dead ROMs had their title modified to reflect the fact and maybe the links from the OP removed, but that is the sort of thing that should, realistically, be down the the thread creator, not to another person - who is to judge when a ROM is dead?
I work in the EPoS (Electronic Point of Sale) business, and we have an application for wireless order-taking on Android. Unfortunately at the moment (and for the foreseeable future) it is only officially supported on v2.x (no support for v3 or v4). That's just a single example, but here are also many people out there who don't want to run a buggy version of ICS with the wrong kernel - for them the older GB stuff is essential (and they won't all choose to run Reaper or Endy either).
If that sort if stuff was to be archived, we would probably just get even more of the pointless threads than we already do.
well then, forget about this thread.
my bad.

[Q] What are some of the more unique ROMs?

Hey all,
I just got ahold of a Rogers SGSII for the sole purpose of flashing and experimenting with.
I'm just curious, what are some of the more unique ROMs out there? I know we frown on "what's the best ROM" thread, but that's not what I'm asking. I know about some of the high performance ROMS, tha'ts not what I'm after. I'm looking for something that's truly different from Touchwiz or Stock Android. Doesn't have to have great battery life, or run completely flawless, but something cool and different. It's currently running CM10.1, looking to change it up a bit.
Any suggestions would be great.
This thread is uniquely veiled as worthless. With that said try flashing all the ROMS here. Then mix different parts of them together in your own build. That would be unique. And most likely not worthless. Good luck
All of them are unique.

Avatar or paranoid android to start then pacman as it has lots of features from each branch. The first two will get you a different look and feel then try pacman.
Launchers play a large roll in how you interface with the rom . if you like a ROM maybe try a different launcher we all have our favorites.

Most interesting rom is MIUI, Rogers Jellybean is right behind it and then Embryo.

Hello...World?

Just wanted to take a second and introduce myself... to myself??? I made the transition to android last week after packing an iOS for the past few years even though I really wanted to get android so that I could design/implement/build/deploy my own stuff directly to the phone without having to jump through apple shaped hoops. My background is .net/delphi (daily) and java (every so often) so I figured I should be able to hit the ground running. However, before I start doing anything I wanted to run a few things by you all just to make sure I have read and understood everything as I should have.
I just got my AT&T GS4 and have verified using *#1234 that my firmware version is indeed the latest crappy "MF3" type, and as such I am left with two options (1) Root my phone without "loki-doki" ( i.e. the only way to revert changes/bad ROMs ) and pray or (2) dont...
I've seen a few posts of people confirming the root process works via the SD card, but then what? Are there any ROMs that are stable enough that you would recommend to someone who absolutely can not afford to brick their phone?
Any helpful advice will be greatly appreciated as I'm looking forward to start contributing to the cause as soon as possible.
thanks,
xda_n
