Which version do you think will run most smoothly?. - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I am planning on getting the Note Pro when it comes out over here in Australia.
I cant decide between getting the SnapDragon or Eynos version.
I was just wondering which you guys think will run most smoothly, with least lag, etc?.
I am tempted towards the snapdragon because of the kernel sources problems with the eynos versions, but i mainly just want the device to run smoothly.
your opinion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Corey

I am not an expert but it seems that the SnapDragon version of any phones/tablets is usually faster.

Yes snap dragon. The ex Ynys has poor video codec support 2k video plays in sw mode only 4k video won't play smoothly but as not 4k screen makes no odds

Samsung Omnia Pro!!!!

A device has now been tested www.gsmarena.com/samsung_b7610_omniapro-review-378.php
What are your thoughts? Is this a match for the TP2?
I hate to say it, but im swayed by this device to move away from HTC until they bring the next touch/keyboard device (TP3?)
I still prefer TP2!
The only point I can see is not better is in processor, but I´ll wait patiently to see the 09-10 HTC new models!
ooh i dont know that seems prettty nice.... but since its probably not coming to tmobile here in the us i think i have no choice but to go iwth the touch pro 2, it will probably go to Verizon cause they where the only one to get the last omnia
A match? To be honest, I'm not seeing how the Touch Pro 2 is supposed to be better or even equal to a phone that has an AMOLED screen and 800Mhz Cortex A8 processor. The B7610 even beats the TP2 in little things like camera and ROM storage amount.

That's old news... I was not impressed.
Im so impatient, I dont think I can wait til the next version of the Touch Pro is available. The TP2 has only just been released and therefore its probably going to be another 12 months.
The fact the Samsung is lighter, better screen, camera (inc flash), I have to admit im tempted
.... and you have Samsung build quality which is, in my experience, awesome..... unlike my experience of HTC's which is frankly, awefull.
You will be able to get many cooked roms over at omnia.modaco.com and you will get just as much support from them and here when combined.
i'm gutted I bought my Acer m900 only to THEN find out about the Omnia Pro (the acers great but ....)

I used to have a Touch HD and video performance was a letdown. Don't get me wrong the HD is a magnificent device, but not being able to watch videos as they should be on this great screen was dissapointing. I tried many different encoders, like doctor divx, nero recode and the encoder made for this device but none of them gave me satisfiyng results. Especially considering that I had to REENCODE a complete movie, this process could easily take several hours. Many tweaks drivers etc never gave me full satisfaction. I made tons of little clips to test the best possible performance for the least amount of encoding time and my findigs were that my best option was to reencode with Nero at a maximum resolution of 524 and max bitrate of 700 and selecting Quicktime compatibility for the MPEG ASP. So I ended up with tons of clips, each time trying wich is the best. The following things were particularly frustrating.
- No out of the box divx/xvid support
- playback of divx/xvid with coreplayer or any other 3rd party player was slow and laggy
- No standard MPEG 4 ASP support, for example videos recorded on other devices like Nokia's wouldn't play. Also many programs would create incompatible mp4 files for this device. Later I found out because it doesnt support the Advanced Simple Profile but only the Simple Profile. (Quicktime compatible)
- No standard MPEG 4 AVC support, as the point above the only way to make mp4 video work on this device was to use the encoder program wich was very very very slow. (on my pc at least) Files created with nero or xvid or any other VC-1 encoder would fail to play on this device.
- Even videos created with the special encoder would play fine, but seeking and switching from fullscreen to portrait etc was always lagging.
NOW : I bought a Samsung Omnia PRO B7610 and man it's a world of difference. Seriously this device is awesome for video playback. Smooth playback, fast mode switching, fast seeking forward. I mean everything wich was wrong with the HD is right with this device. I hadn't deleted my bunch of test clips for the HD and this device plays nearly all of them without a problem. And the best part is, I don't have to reencode anything anymore. Every divx/xvid video I tried played flawlessly. Lost episodes downloaded from the web at 624 resolution look perfect on the Amoled Screen, and play perfectly smooth. Well I am certainly satisfied with this device.

where did you get this deveice from , i've been waiting for it for a long time. does anyone have any idea about a UK release date. i've been scouring the internet and can't find a thing.
I got it online from pdashop / Coolblue. Price for just the phone without contract was 468 euros. You can probably find it cheaper online, but I was prepared to give a little more to get my hands on this a soon as possible.

MHz mith and people who know nothing about processor design, gota love it.
google mhz, ghz, processor design and learn. You can NOT compare simple MHZ.
Samsung: Better cpu, Better camera, no tilt screen (a plus for me)
I think I would still prefer the HTC Touch Pro until this get´s cheaper .
now i've got the new Samsung Omnia Pro GT-B7610
Can anybody tell me when the new WM 6.5 will be available for that phone?
If only it had ATT 3g capability, I'd be on it like a flea on a dog...
why not have the guys over at modaco cook up a full fledged HTC rom with manila 2.5/2.6 and other HTC goodies instead of the samsung apps??
i mean all the HTC goodies in a 800MHZ CPU with a dedicated GFX accelerator and a AMOLED screen = PERFECT

[Q]buy nexus s or wait for dual cores ??

Help needed!!!! I am really confused what to do , whether to buy a nexus s now or wait for dual -core phones .I just dont want to buy something for 20k that might be outdated soon.
Nexus s will pretty much run anything out right now.. Don't play the waiting game, get it if the price is right? It's technology.. Every few months there is newer and more expensive **** out

If you want to play the waiting game, wait for the next Nexus. I wouldn't ever buy or recommend a non-Nexus Android.

Ya...thats what.Even i dont want to wait because my budget was around 18k, i stretched it to 20k(current price of nexus s in inr)...the budget is so strict that i cant even stretch it to buy sgs i9000(which i dont feel is worth buying when compared to nexus s)...and my requirement is that heavy (gameloft-ish)games should work smoothly ...which i think nexus s with its 1ghz humming bird procc & PowerVR SGX 540 would handle quite well atleast for an year or so ..and plus there is a chance that nexus s will be getting ICS ...so i think i should just buy it now ...and 20k for nexus s is a steal i think !
The nexus s is an awesome phone for the price now (320 € in Germany). I wouldn't spend almost twice as much for a double core.
Btw, I'm not sure where you're from but in the states when you say 20k that k stands for thousands. So $20,000 is a bit much for the Nexus S. I only paid $200 for mine

Gaming? Nexus S is never your wrong choice. Haha.
You can use Chainfire 3D on Nexus S to play Tegra 2 games,
you can overclock your phone using Trinity 1.576 kernel to maximize your game experience.
What more do you want when the 1.576 kernel give a same quadrant score (or even higher) than duo core phone such as Optimus 2x ang SGSII??
In conclusion, get me to help you when you got your nexus, I will give you all the necessary file/kernel/rom/apps for maximum gaming experience
I am a gamer (only when holiday,LOL) with 24 hours charging my phone
after personally trying both optimus 2x and atrix for more than 2 weeks each. " brother has atrix and i got optimus 2x from my friend to use it since he doesnt want it " got galaxy s2", i would go for nexus S
the reason is simple. this is all marketing bs. there is nothing that can run on galaxy s2 or atrix or optimus 2x that cant run on nexus S . everything runs perfectly fine on nexus S. no lag. perfectly fine.
the only thing that wont run are the nvidia games. but as far as i know. they are all been ported to other phones.
however. what broke it up was skype. to know that skype was released for video chat only on 4 phones and nexus is one of them. made me note something. i have to get that phone. not because of skype. but because clearly. its a dev platform. when skype tested their video call. they tested it on nexus. even with the mods. skype till now cant run video calls on optimus 2x and tegra. do to the fact tegra cant read some codes. i think mods are looking into it but i dont have high hopes at all. because this is not the first time dev get stuck on something like that. " same code "
if you are talking about dual core phones as galaxy s2. then this is another story.
GS2 is superior phone. there is no doubt about it. better and bigger screen. thinner, faster. but u will also get stuck with 2 things
- google updates... u wont get any till samsung give their blessing
- some problems running some games " again. some issue with reading codes. while this is being sported out by devs here, its still not perfect. "

where i can download chainfire 3d ?
also. i dont advise overclocking your phone. it shorten the lfie of your cpu/gpu.
i would definitely choose the Nexus S .. its a powerful beast ..
1, 1ghz processor is enough for everything
2, gpu 540 - can handle all the games - much stronger than the most used adreno 200 or 205
3, updates directly from google! - how fast your phone is depends also on the OS ..
4,you get comparable scores when you tweak your phone vs dualcores -sometimes even more
5,the chipset used in Nexus S has one of the best audio chips used in a device - regarding that Voodoo Sound - it seriously killed my ipod, my Hi-Fi at home .. i just use that ..
6, you want more? you can play 720p MKV on this hardware - you cant do that on most dualcore - coz they miss the hq mkv profile - diceplayer
7,skype video calls? here we go
8, NFC - the future is already there
u know google decided to make "the phone" and when they do one .. they mostly put all the best stuff into it from that "time frame" ..

NVIDIA Tegra2 dual core : Video decoder is too bad...Hard to play H.264 High profile.
Snapdragon dual core : Video is not so good but can play 720p MKV using diceplayer.
Exynos dual core : GREAT Video decoder. it can play 1080p High profile.
if you have HDMI-out cable, your phone turn into video player.

[Q] Just ditched the 8.9, do I go for 7.0 Plus or Tab 2 7"?

After a month of use I finally took my Galaxy Tab 8.9 back to the shop today to get a refund. Turns out that people weren't exaggerating that slowdown you get on Tegra 2 tabs...
Anyway! I'm in the market for a new Tab now. I'll probably hang on to see if anything is announced at Google I/O (like the rumoured quad core $250 tab) but if not, what's my best bet? The 7.0 Plus on Honeycomb or the Tab 2 &" on ICS?
My biggest concern is how well the 1GHz TI OMAP + PowerVR GPU chipsets in the Tab 2 hold up against the Exynos + Mali400 in the 7.0 Plus. As long as the Tab 2 can deal with 720p .mp4 video (which the 8.9 certainly couldn't!) and play decent games like Sonic 4, GTA III and Anomaly HD, I'll be happy.
I have the SGT 2 10.1 which also has the same chip as the SGT 2 7, and I can say the 720p screen and ICS is too much for it. All the games play quite bad, even custom roms don't fix much of the lag. I am thinking of selling it and getting the cheapest Acer/Asus etc. quad-core tab.

I'm hoping performance won't be as bad on the 7inch Tab due to the much smaller screen resolution. One thing I am considering is where I can reliably purchase a 7.0 Plus from, which at the moment seems like no-where. I have purchased it from online sellers in the past and had many issues, such as bad firmware or missing IRDA blasters.

Personally (And please take this with a grain of salt as I purchased the Tab2 7.0) I would go with the Tab2 7.0. First off the CPU is easily overclocked past the Plus' CPU, so the only real advantage the plus has is out the window. The 7.0 doesn't have a rear flash, but to tell you the truth, if you are taking pictures with your tablet you are doing it wrong.
The 7.0 has plenty of speed especially after ROMing and OCing. Even without that, the tablet still flies compared to the OG Transformer I used to own. I don't know if the 10" is that much slower, but it sounds like an over exaggeration to me. Touchwiz is pretty decent on the tablet and leaves plenty of RAM (Usually around 500 MB after initial boot) to allow the device room to expand.
I was debating the two before buying and I just believe that the Tab2 7.0 is a much easier buy, especially for the price.
Oh and don't forget the 7.0 has ICS while the Plus is still stuck on HC, that's actually really big right there.
For the videos, I found on my Tab 2, some players are better at playing certain videos than others. For instance I have some 720p MKV anime files that play well with software decoding on one player, and run 720p mp4's like garbage. I then switch to the other player and the 720p mp4 runs smooth like butter and the mkv can't render.
So yes, the TAB can handle the 720 files, you just may need to find a video player (or players -- I use 3 different ones) that works for you. (1080 content though is pushing it).

Just asking if you tried 1080p mkv and what was the result. Cnet reviews for Tab 2 10 showing slow frame rates while they said they couldnt get it to work on 1080p.
Im just wondering how come a Galaxy S2 phone can play native 1080pmkv just fine, with a few 0.4 (or is it 0.2) ghz dual core. I know that processors are made by different companies, so is the Texas Instrument processor just not powerful enough?

Galaxy Tab 2 vs Note 10.1

I've got a Tab 2 and am growing tired of the lag even using the basic function such as web browsing (running stock or rooted/CM10.1). I don't want to completely jump from the Samsung ship (I have an iPad 2 already) and wanted to know how the Tab 2 stacked up against the much higher spec'd Note 10.1 but can't find any direct comparisons on here or online.
My question is whether the the Note 10.1 is WAY better/faster/smoother/more lag free than the Tab 2. From the spec's I know it should be but I'm interested in real world first hand experience of anyone who's got or used both.
There is a lag in the GT2? Hmm didn't notice that... But since I want 4G LTE on my tab, there isn't a lot of choices...

I actually have both and there is a significant difference but that is because the note 10.1 has a quad core processor and 2gb of ram vs galaxy tab 2 which is dual core 1Ghz with 1 GB of ram. I noticed it more on touchwiz but after I got pacman ROM and over clocked it to 1.5 GHz its working pretty smooth. I can even play some high quality games without lag. So I guess the only way to actually get it to be smooth is on an aosp ROM and over clocking it to 1.4 just to be safe

Thanks, that's the info I was after and is what I'd suspected. I'd much rather run vanilla and unrooted tbh. I bought an iPad and whilst it was a restrictive OS I liked the smoothness so subsequently really enjoyed the freedom of not having to mess around with Rom's trying to smooth things out as I'd tried before with an original Xoom.
So do you see any lag at all using the Note? Things like pinch-zooming on the web, flicking between apps etc?
Actually there is something that gets lost in the details and blogs, the real answer is..it depends. Not all Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 devices are the same. The ATT Variant actually comes with a Dual Core 1.5 GHZ S4 Krait, basically the same chips inside of the US S3s, which makes for a very very very snappy package. If you are looking at a 1.0 GHZ model, meeh, but if you happen to come across a newer carrier model, TMobile, ATT, etc, they are an order of magnitude faster than the stock 10.1 Tab 2.

One concern that I had, and now after watching this video is an even bigger concern, is gaming performance. Overall all games are somewhat lagging, I believe that this is due to the high resolution, that not only it has to process more pixels, but also requires additional video memory, which I believe is shared with the system memory.
I got very excited to buy this phone after S4 GE announcement, but now I'm skeptical, I have seen the Nexus 4 running games a lot smoother than this and I'm worried I will have to upgrade again soon in the future for a phone with a better GPU like Adreno 330 to be able to play newer games in 1920x1080 while the Nexus 4 could still play the same game smoothly.
What do you guys think? are you also disappointed with gaming performance?

Frankly speaking, I'm disappointed for the whole performance experience with my GT-I9505. The whole system it's not perfectly smooth and there's some stuttering here and there. The same issue obviously happen during games, although it's not so noticeable.
To be honest, any device I tried with the recent Qualcomm architecture (I mean both APQ8064 and APQ8064T Snapdragon 600), screen resolution apart, was not completely smooth during games like NFSMW or Real Racing 3. And, just to give a term of comparison, I had: PadFone 2, Nexus 4, Xperia Z, Optimus G, HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505). On Android OS, I could just see the Galaxy Note 2 (Exynos and Mali of course) running almost perfectly smooth Need For Speed Most Wanted. Then, I wouldn't be that worried about games and even more about general performances of GT-I9505. Samsung it's relatively new to APQ8064(T), then I guess it can only get better in the next updates.
Any game not running perfect on this phone just needs optimization that's all. The soc is relatively new in most regards, and aside from the mali-t6, has the most capable graphics card out there. The mali 400 used in the s2 through the note 2 handle every game just about prefect.
Swyped from a minimalist S2
how abouti9500 one and is it better:? they gave me this version im so sad and i forced to chose this phone
I think octa is more for gamming, gpu have more Power, some games really need optimizations

Dont think so
The 320 is on the same level as the power vr , according to some sites , the adreno is little bit better

Playing real racing and fpse and had never a lag and a slow down.
Most people which say s4 is slow use the crappy touchwiz interface.
I can tell you guys its not the phone or the hardware which is laggy, its just touchwiz.
Get rid of it and you will never have a lag, launcher redraw or a slow down anymore
Edit:
I run a superslim deodexed and pre rooted 4.2.2 rom and have no lag and perfect battery life.
Just try it guys

Yeah I think it's this and a combination of the Touchwiz interface and other bloated apps / processes.
optimising games for the phones hardware will increase performance in terms of average fps and that sort of thing but these random dips and microstutters we see are caused by background processes and services. Touchwiz is the main culprit but not the only culprit.

The 9500 uses the Octacore. It's a little bit more powerful than the APQ8064T you can find into the 9505.
On the other side, you will just have HSPA modem, not the LTE one. Only in korea for what I can remember, Samsung release an Octacore version together with an LTE modem.
If you don't need or you can't use LTE, you should have a slightly better device than the 9505.

Both have their advantages. Power VR can push out more FPS but the adreno has a better hexagon fill rate. The adreno 320is the newer chip and unfortunately many games are not optimized for it yet. The power vr on the I9500 is older and thus why some games will play more smoothly. If you try a game like real racing 3 you will see what I mean. However, a game like asphalt 7, both devices should handle well.
But why should Asphalt be no problem? I played it and it plays smooth Like it should. The game Epoch is running smooth but a simple game as carmaggedon has frame drop. Epoch is unreal powered and looks awsome.
Could this be because of optimizing games? I sure hope so. I love the device.
