Call Sprint store. Tell me they can't activate a new phone I have to purchase from them. Tell them the phone is unlocked and works on Sprint they said they don't know how to do it.
Call second Sprint store ask for the IMEI number and tell me they can't find a record for it, cant activate it, they are busy sorry goodbye.
Call Corporate office tell me yes I can activate it but this phone does not qualify for a month to month service and even though it's unlocked I will be locked into a 2 year contract as a new customer.
Does that sound right? I only have 14 days to decide if I want to stick with the service? How could I be hit with a penalty for leaving if they have given me nothing up front?

And yet, you still want to be with Sprint. I'm so lost.
From what I've heard, you can't bring your own phone to sprint's month to month service. You can if you sign a contract though, but you knew that already.

This is your chance to run far away. There are tons of other services that provide better pricing and service than Sprint, unless you're in that 5% of the country that Sprint would get better service, somehow.
It's all because of my job. I work in a large concrete building where there is ZERO AT&T service.
Verizon and Boost Mobile work well, so since Boost uses Sprint towers I was looking to join them.
Can you activate this phone on Boost Mobile? I need another suggestion along those lines.

Nope. Boost requires you to buy a phone from them. Why not just use Ting?

If you want to use the Sprint network with your Nexus 5, try signing up with Ting.com (a Sprint MVNO). They're very responsive to users and prices are much better than Sprint's. You'll need to order a Sprint SIM from them for $10 unless you can pick one up elsewhere.
It will work on sprint. You have to get a LTE sim card from them. Do not let them tell you otherwise. That's all you need. Pop it in and reboot. I'd call sprint and ask them to send you one.

Would they have to add the MEID for 1x/EVDO or all Nexus 5s in their database already? A prepaid option like Ting may be a good way to go but if you could figure it out how to flash to Page Plus that would be cool too.

Are you a masochist? If I were you I would run as far away as possible from Sprint. You said you don't get AT&T coverage at work. What about T-Mobile?

none of that is correct. i assume you have a 32gig model. you must remove the last number from the imei and the system will recognize it. you can go on the new month to month framily plan since you are bringing your own device. bringing your own device is the same as purchasing one through the new easy pay program (where you have no contract, just obligated to pay phone off).
Hey and you can join my framily while your at it. Your bill would be $40 a or lower at the base. PM me for details. ?

You didn't buy your N5 from T-mo by any chance, did you? There have been issues with activating N5 purchased from T-mo, onto Sprint because Sprint didn't have those IMEIs loaded into their system (phones purchased from google had that issue for the first few days after launch, but it was quickly addressed. But phones purchased from T-mo reportedly still have the issue)

So I have been having a bad experience with T-Mobile. I just moved into a new house with my girl and son and I have the worst service. "Light Green" they called it...I only get 4G 20% of the time, with dropped called, missing texts or texts that take a couple hours to day to get to me, so I tried to get the cancellation fee waived, i went into T-Mo and they said they would send a request. I recieved a letter in the mail about 15 days after, saying that I was Declined and that I can just go outside in my car, or on the sidewalk to make a phone call or to get 4G....WTF MATE!?
Heres where it gets retarded...So I didnt really have a credit score when I initially signed up for T-Mobile. So I had to pay a deposit fee or whatever of $200 bucks...They said i would get that back after 1 year of paying. The day it became 1 year i called T-Mo. They said they would send it to my bank account and sent the request in. About 9 days later I get a phone call from an automated message saying my account wasnt eligible...So I went into the T-Mobile store and talked to them, and they couldnt give me a straight answer, so they called customer service and asked them to send me a visa card with the $200. 2 days after i check my account online and they credidted my T-Mo account and paid that months bill???!!!
I was pissed So I went into the store and I told them i did not ask for that and i asked why they would do this, they couldn't tell me why...So they sent a request to refund my tmo account then to send me the $200 to a visa AGAIN. About 2 weeks later I get $102.93 in the mail...They denied my request to refund me and still paid my bill and sent me the remainder.....And at the time i really needed the money.
I said screw them and I havent paid my bill it was due almost 2 weeks ago, and there about to shut me off. I planned on switching to Simple Mobile but when I called primetime to see prices and stuff they told me if i have a balance with tmobile that they would decline me...Metro also uses tmobiles network and walmart uses tmobiles network....
So my question is what can I do to get service on this phone? What plans do I have available, because I don't really plan on paying t-mobilem they can go screw. Im done with there BS.

Will T-Mobile lock this phone since I haven't paid? I'm trying to get a service plan I can use with this phone. I don't need data, I'm on WiFi most of the time where ever I go. So if I switch to air voice or at&t I would just pop in the sim card and be good to go?

Will do, still have to order a sim card. I will buy it either tomorrow or Monday and probably get it within a week or 2, otherwise I would have already tried it. The process seems pretty straight forward though and if it works on the S2, I don't see why it wouldn't work for us blazers but you never know.

T-Mob won't unlock your phone for three reason:
1. you don't have any outstanding balance
2. the devices has to be used on your line for 1 or 2 weeks
3. your line has to be in good standing and active for 40 days.
But if anybody who has t-mob tried to call and get the imei unlock code for your phone, i wouldn't suggest it as they may either have to send in the bills that shows you paid full price for the phone or the devices is used on their line for 7 days.
Also, from what you're stating, you probably didn't communicate clearly with T-Mob store rep, but sometime, you just have to find the right person, tell them stright off what happen and keep it simple and you'll be clear.
and as for the $200, i'm not surprised they had you put it in, and you DO have credit scores. they can come from any sources. the Public Library keeps one, getting a loan from any sources used under your SSN will affect your credit scores. any past debts unpaid will affect it as well. renting a house also affect it.
and i'm not sure, but if they're suppose to put it back into your account, and it haven't, it normally mean that someone screw up. and if i were you, i'm certain it isn't T-Mob that screw you over but the local place. if they have to call customer services, that mean they're a 3rd party store representing T-Mob. I would suggest you head back to the original place you got your phone and plan and speak to the person in charge. they might be the one refusing to give you the money, not t-mob.

What I meant when I said I didn't really have a credit score was because I never really had any bills under my name at the time of signing up with t-mo.
Trust me I communicated with them just fine...the person who I talked to in the store was the person who set me up with them, she's a really nice lady, so I know it wasn't her doing. I had originally called customer service to get my deposit back. They sent in the requst to fund my bank account originally. The lady at the t-mo store did everything correctly and showed me exactly what she did on the computer and I even talked to one of the account specialists.
It was T-Mobile being pricks. They didn't want to give me the money or at least not the whole thing, which was clear from what they were doing. They stated my bank account not being eligible in an automated message and because it wasn't "eligible" for absolutely no reason they put the money in my t-mo account instead and paid that months bill before I could even do anything and there was still 13 days till i had to pay the bill. Then denied my request to get my money back that they used to pay the bill, and denying the cancellation fee request for crappy unreliable service and telling me in a letter that I can go out in my car or the sidewalk to call and use 4g which still didn't work all that great outside.
This is definitely T-Mobiles fault not customer service. There money hungry a-holes and don't care for the customer as a whole.

Exact same phone, the one at Best Buy just comes with an $100 SIM card.
This is one of the most appealing features of this phone that has so far gone pretty much unrecognized. You can take this single model and jump to most major and prepaid carriers.

So you just stick an AT&T SIM card in there and it'll automatically switch to it? Was your phone already activated on the Sprint network? I'm curious since Sprint would tie in with the ESN activation for CDMA. If it's just as simple as putting in an AT&T or Tmobile SIM, then I'm sure getting it!

I bought a Nexus 5 from Best Buy and I'm an AT&T customer. Yes, the phone will automatically connect to AT&T's network. It took a few minutes to convince the BB employee that the phone would work on AT&T. They also insisted it was store policy that they activate every phone they sell, so I had to pay the $30 activation fee.

I can't remember specifics but I had to change the settings here back to LTE a couple of times. For some reason it wouldn't stick after the first reboot. I can't retest it because my straight talk Sim is not active right now. I can assure you it works relatively easily though.

because all N5's sold in North America are the same model, with the same frequencies (D820), the only thing that may have to be changed is the APN.
this is not like other Sprint specific devices like the G2 (LS980) vs the AT&T G2 (D800)
AT&T - D800
GSM 850/900/1800/1900
UMTS 850/1900/2100
LTE 1900(2)/1700(4)/850(5)/700(17)
Sprint - LS980
GSM 850/1900
CDMA 800/850/1900
UMTS 850/1900
LTE 1900(25)/800(26)/2500(41)

That would have been awesome, I don't understand why everybody charges $100 more unless Google really is taking a hit on each one they sell.
Glad you got them to price match, they wouldn't budge for me. Brought them a few receipts where other people did it, brought them the price printed. They just kept telling me it's not the same phone, got to the point where I was just tired of wasting my time with them and didn't want to wait on the Play Store so I just got it at full price.

I don't think Google is necessarily taking a hit but I do think they are selling them just slightly above cost. You have to remember that Google isnt a electronic sales company like Apple, they make all of their profits from there data mining and advertising business. Android is just another medium to collect data and deliver ads. So they could give these away for free and still benefit. However companies like best buy and sprint make their money off of retail sales and cell phone plans. So they are trying to maximize profits that way.
Anyways bummer that they didn't match for you. I guess I just got luck. I walked in not feeling to confident with my play store ad. They were cool but hesitant. After the guy asked his manager he said that they normally wouldn't match the play store but were will to make an exception.
I am in the same boat but for T Mobile. Anyone know if this phone will work for T Mobile as well? I would believe so but I want to make especially if BB is going to charge me an activation fee.
Been thinking about picking up one if these as a backup. The problem is that these phones can only be activated on postpaid verizon after 6 months of being active on prepaid. Sort of a deal dealer. Can this limitation be passed? Is there anyone who knows of a way to bypass this and just activate straight on my share everything plan?
Anyone?
I would like more information on this too.

since my GSIII decided to commit suicide and I didn't want to spend too much money to upgrade devices when all the new flagships are about to be released, I got myself a moto g.
Good news is that you can activate it directly onto a postpaid plan. I didn't give it a prepaid number to begin with, so I don't know if that would affect anything, but if your phone has no number, just activate it through *228. It failed the first time when programming, but the second time around it worked.

Good news is that you can activate it directly onto a postpaid plan. I didn't give it a prepaid number to begin with, so I don't know if that would affect anything, but if your phone has no number, just activate it through *228. It failed the first time when programming, but the second time around it worked.

thank you for the response about this... can anyone else confirm this?
i called a verizon store earlier and was, of course, told that no you could not and it had to be on the 6 months, etc...
so if i pickup a moto g (verizon capable) from best buy, for $100, and just buy the phone and leave (they will let me?) i can then just *228 from the phone itself and port it onto my account somehow?
currently using an iphone 4 on verizon.

My process with getting the phone was walking into target and picking one up for $100, *228 with phone number you want to transfer and the account password (had to search for that) and it activated on the second try.
I most definitely went from numberless to postpaid plan.
Maybe I got lucky because the guy who got the phone for me wasn't the usual guy who takes care of phones. YMMV

I can confirm.
I just bought a Moto G from Best Buy. I turn on the phone, killed the activation. Because I have a business account, I logged into the web, put in the ESN number. Once I did this *228 and it activated with my number and 3g.
Groovy!
thats two confirms. One more and i sell my soul and gs3 for a G!
What is the account password. You mean to log into the online account?
Best Buy Verizon Moto G Prepaid - Activated Successfully on Contract
Another data point for a successful activation on a contract plan. Picked up the phone from Best Buy, bypassed the activation screen, dialed *228, and success! Both voice and data are functioning. Hopefully it's a permanent replacement.
For anyone who did this, did you have an old plan without data, and if so, did it force you to change your plan?
I want the moderator to ban me.

I currently have an unlimited data plan and didn't have to make any changes to use the Moto G.

Well the person I'm trying to get this for doesn't have any data plan and uses an old plan from years ago and doesn't want to change. Sometimes the stupid carriers detect you went from a feature phone to a smartphone and tell you you have to upgrade your data plan or else.
Hope it works.
Make sure the network fine.

That I'm not sure about. Verizon may very well be able to tell if a newly activated phone is a "smart" phone and requires a data plan. There might be better/cheaper options for phones without data plans.
I just bought one for my Dad, His S3 crapped out and went to try and activate this moto g on my account which is not prepaid and it wouldnt do it not even ask for the #, so I called *22898 for prepaid activation and it says its LOCKED and to return it to the store. Wal-Mart must had not scanned it properly. So I`ll go back get that fixed and hope it can activate cause he can upgrade in 4 months but Verizon wont Budge so no point and buying a used phone for a lot of money for just 4 months.
Update: Got it exchanged, Dialed *228 activated the first time

Glad to hear it worked out for you. I was a little worried when I bought my phone. The clerk at Walmart had to scan it quite a few times. I was worried it wasn't going to get unlocked, like yours.

Very easy process. I bought a phone off contract. Called tmobile, they let me unlock it instantly. Simple process, give them the imei and Sim card number (tmobile), and have an activated Sim from the service you want to use.
Turn phone off, replace Sim with working Sim, turn phone on. Profit.

So in other words, keep calling back until they quit with the "your device isn't eligible" nonsense.
They didn't tell me that once. They did tell me I could use this phone abroad, on their network. They were very accommodating with me. Bought the phone on Monday, called yesterday, but didn't have phone with me. Called back today and it took 20mins.

When you buy the V10 form TMO, did they ask you to join any plan?
I got V10 at $630 and on a pay as you go plan.
and they need me to add another $100 to that account and wait for 14 days to unlock.
didn't these apply to you?
I had to get a prepaid plan, which was $40 I believe. Also, I believe they did the unlock as a courtesy since I already am a customer, and have been for several years.

You've been a customer for several years. Those of us that are with other carriers are the people that are having a problem. I would hope if your a established customer they wouldn't give you a hard time about it.

2 weeks to wait isn't that bad though. You have the prepaid service. They told me originally I had to wait 2 weeks as well due to the buyers remorse deal.

I was able to get them to unlock it without all of that. Just got it permanently unlocked. No $100 refill. No 14 days. It's only been 2 days since I bought it and I'm already unlocked.
I simply kept asking over and over, said please, asked them to make an exception, explained to them that I know it is not true that the $100 is a requirement because I have had T-Mobile unlock a phone for me without all that in the past. Then I finally asked him to elevate this to his supervisor. That's when the magic happened.
If you aren't getting anywhere, try that. If the rep is being super stubborn, just call back. You'll get someone different.
The key here is to be super nice, polite, sincere, and to use the magical key words: "please make an exception."
I'm telling you. Works every time.
Hi Guys
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
But I just got the LG V10 unlocked from T Mobile!!!!!! You guys can do the same too!
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
I bought this phone with pre-paid plan. called two days ago, the TMO representative said me three rules to unlock a prepaid phone are:
1) you use the phone with a TMO phone number:
2) passed the 14 days since you first make a call (passed the 14 days return period)
3) add another $100 to your prepaid account.
This is not same thing that I was told before I bought the phone!! Before I bought the phone, I actually called the TMO unlock department to make sure they can unlock the phone for me if I pay the full device only price.
Alright, Here are the steps to unlock the phone today:
1) call the T mobile pre-paid department. tell them I bought the phone for a few days and found out the t-mobile signal is extreme bad at work and also not good at home (this is true to me!). So I want to cancel the pre-paid plan. The TMO representative says if you don't use the phone for 180 days. the account will automatically expired and cancelled.
2) then I said I want to get the $10 on my account refunded because it is tmo's signal issue. I also told them I am more concerned on the device that paid in full can't work with other carriers.
3) the TMO representative asked: if they can unlock the device, will I still concerned about the credit in my prepaid account? I said if you can unlock the phone, I don't care about the $10 in my account.
4) TMO rep then asked my email account and send in the instructions to unlock the phone. followed the email. the phone is instantly unlocked.
The whole process took only about 15~20 minutes. very easy.
tips: try to call in the evenings, their offshore representative is more easy to talk with
hope this helps you guys!
I believe same strategy can be apply to you guys with post-paid plans.
Cheers!
Call tmobile and ask them, it's simple really. Just get a prepaid sim, activate it and put $100 on account. They say wait 7 days, but you can usually call and unlock within instant to 3 days. You can do this with any phone.

best and simply way
It still requires you to become a T-Mo customer and pay 100$ in advance though. It's hardly a great method unless you're already on T-Mo or find a way to get back that 100$ credit.
I've tried the "human" factor; called 2 shops and talked with 2 chat operators on support with no success; they haven't granted me any exception even though my cause was legit.
BTW, what would happen in this scenario:
I buy the phone. Put "someones" T-Mo sim-card and that person calls the support right away. Would they unlock the phone assuming that person is on T-Mo for 1+ year?

Yes that will work if the person has not unlocked over 2 phones in the previous year. The sim card must be in the phone for at least 2-3 days to register the phone on the person's T-Mobile account. For more details check out the official T-Mobile unlock policy.
https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1588
This looks like a loophole in the t-mobile unlock policy. Has anyone tried that? If the device is associated with a canceled account, the account balance must be zero, including all pending charges

Crazy to see this whole unlock thing again. It first started out with the galaxy s6 when they introduced that unlocking app. Went through hell with tmobile to get my s6 edge unlocked to work with cricket (AT&T). You cannot unlock any phone anymore without the app and getting around the whole 40 days thing was highly annoying. After I got my phone unlocked, all worked nice and dandy until my phone decided not to make or take calls on lte.. While on lte all incoming calls will not come through and outgoing will not go out. Had to force the phone to stay on hspa for get and receive calls. Sucked. Sold thag phone and just got the international version downside of international version (at least for Samsung) is that the radio isn't optimized so I always have very low bars of lte and often jump to hspa... Most times I have 1 bar of lte. Unless I'm really close to a tower where the signal goes go 3 or 4 bars.

So I finally got some clarity as to why I can't unlock yet. I have to wait the 14 day demise period?!
I have been struggling to get this phone. Since I'm in Canada I have to either buy from Swappa or ebay and none of the sellers are willing to pick up the phone and ask tmo to unlock it for me which is ridiculous. Is anyone aware of any 3rd party sites that can unlock this device? One's like cellunlocker say they cannot do it due to the tmo unlock app or whatever it is. If anyone knows of a site to make it happen that would save me a lot of headaches and I could just buy one already!

No there is no current vendor or method to unloc other than tmobile directly..
3 months ago there was, all 3rd party vendors with remote access to tmobile activations were able to inject imei and have them made eligible for unlock via the device unlock app.
That loophole has since been closed. It now requires direct contact with tmobile and must meet the requirements.
I just bought walmart tmobile $30 kit activated. Bought $100 refill off ebay for $53. Called for 3 days until my phone showed up on the network. They unlocked after having supervisor authorize exemption.
You can close / cancel the account, after they refund you with a master card with remaining funds. Ymmv

I'm trying to use my Moto G Stylus 2021 on T-Mobile but it's locked to Boost Mobile. I bought it with the assumption that since T-Mobile bought Sprint, and Sprint owning Boost, it would work the T-Mobile. Wrong I was and I haven't had the phone for nearly enough time for them to unlock it for me. In the past I've just paid for the service, money is extremely tight right now for me. Any suggestiins would be a lifesaver.

Is it on a payment plan or did you pay in full? Often, as long as you don't owe anything on it, customer service will unlock it.
I paid for it fully. With Boost Mobile you are expected to have uninterrupted service for 12 months with them in order to have them network unlock a phone.

Boost here, unlocked
Just another word of caution: even though Sprint acquired both, if you live in a rural or somewhat remote location there is a chance that T-Mobile towers in the area might still use cellular technologies that aren't compatible with Boost devices.
I definitely don't have any kinda "expert" knowledge on the current state of their networks. I do however live in the middle of nowhere myself and it typically takes years before network switchovers and upgrades are fully deployed around me. So, just something you might want to ask about before getting too set on this plan. I know where I am T-Mobile (aside from having next to no service) was TDMA and Boost locally *still* uses CDMA.

I went through the run around with them about two weeks ago when I switched to Fi. Took over an hour and having to call again just to get another service rep because the original guy wouldn't stop stalling. Or maybe he had no clue what I was asking him to do. He wouldn't give me my account number for porting my number either.
I'm not sure what other DIY alternatives you have, I don't following the unlocking scene, but I get why you wouldn't wanna shell out $30-$40 bucks for some stranger to mess with your phone.
