Automating commands on the Android OS - General Questions and Answers

I'm looking for some software that would allow me to program virtual box to routinely download and uninstall apps within the emulator. Another possibility would be to do this with an actual android device, perhaps with the help of a RasPi or Arduino.
Anyway, this is all just an idea and I'd like to hear what you all have to say about it.

[Q] Extend display to android device

Is there an app, program, or a way to extend my laptop/desktop to my rooted android device?
Bump for curiosity!

iDisplay
Actually there is an app to extend the display with an android device. The app is called iDisplay, but!!:
the extended display is very very very slow!! And if that doesn't annoy you, than there is a stability problen that the app crashes after starting a game.
So for me there is no usable app out there
If someone happen to find something I would be very glad to hear it.

Better Terminal Emulator Pro running native Linux apps?

In the app description of Better Terminal Emulator Pro it said it could be used to run native Linux apps. Has anyone done this with their phone? Does it still require running Ubuntu or something chroot?

Is an antivirus necessary for android?

A lot people are saying androids can easily get infected by viruses because of its open platform. There are lots of antivirus for android so im just wondering if its really needed. If it is which one would be the best?

i think that's a good question
i also think that the reasoning that android is more vulnerable because it's open source is very incorrect - it is based on linux which is largely open source as well - open source is not tantamount to being insecure - consider various web servers such as Apache which are open source and very secure and power much of the internet, or various flavors of linux which are embedded in many devices such as routers
it is my understanding that security was designed into the android OS and part of that is comprised of regulating how apps are run (each is run in a separate sandbox) and how they can interact with the OS and each other
i have read in several places that A/V's for android are pretty much useless at this point, but i don't know that this is entirely true. however i would also argue that A/V's are not remotely as effective on any other platform (windows) as users generally think they are - you are never fully protected and a false sense of security may be worse than no security in some cases
what to do?
personally, i pay attention to what i install and only install what i need - i happen to prefer open source software where the source code is available for review and nothing is hidden, such as the back doors and other malware some vendors of proprietary software integrate
i think that a front-end to iptables (a firewall) is also probably a good idea, though you likely need to be rooted and running a ROM that supports iptables. all of the ones i found seem to be based on the Droidwall code, but i like Android Firewall the best - it's an active project and it seems to work pretty well (you can also find it on the Play store if you go that route)
other tools to consider...
Logging Test App
SecDroid
aeGis
Guardian Project Installer
some reading...
[Guide] [Tweaks] Android Security Hardening
Secure Mobile Apps
I don't think it's neccesary....it will probably turn your device more slowly and more battery comsuption.
Just be careful what you install.
i never used antivirus on my 2.3 gb and 4.1.2 Jellybean
I've never used anything; froyo, gb, ics, jb. Only once have I installed some nefarious malware on accident. I simply force closed the app, cleared data, and un-installed.
Trying the 1$t out right now, link download good

Block all apps & SystemUI to free up RAM for WinXP Emulator

My goal: to almost, practically multi-boot my tablet with Windows, using Bochs emulator. Bochs emulator is an Android app, so I still must have Android booted, but any apps, including SystemUI, are *not* needed (until I restart my tablet, plan on using Tasker to handle renaming apk's to bak's and vice versa.
I have a Dell Venue Andoid tablet w/ Intel, runs WinXP pretty well (emulator), and I would like to disable all apps from running while using my emulator. This is to clear up RAM and provide better speeds, along with not having other Android app interruptions/notifications/push services, including Google.
Note: Please don't suggest RAM cleaners... I'm literally turning off all apps including launcher and systemui.
I'm posting a thread because I'm specifically wondering if SystemUI is required to complete the boot process in Android 4.3 Jellybean. I feel that the process "Android System" should be everything I need to just launch my app at boot_completed. SystemUI, however, uses over 100MB in present RAM providing for the status bar, notifications, softkeys, and that crap. You'd be surprised what's actually running on your RAM. Android App Manager is biased and doesn't display system or Google apps. I used this app to actually figure it all out, worked great.
You guys, creating custom ROMs and such, should know about the composition of the boot process, and what affects it. So I'm asking you guys.
I already tried Boot Managers to block the boot_completed intents, even the Xposed ones, but it didn't actually free up RAM, nor did they allow me to block Google apps (such as Play Store, Youtube, they all run on present RAM--crazy).
Will renaming SystemUI.apk to .bak brick my tablet. BTW, Dell Venue tabs have unlocked bootloaders.
Thanks,
Did you give greenify a try?
Is not a task killer, it runs in background, usually uses about 10mb or less, to prevent the app you "blocked" to start.
I think it might be the best solution...
Sorry for my bad English...

A brick is a device with no way to recover it and might as well as throw it out. What your talking about is a boot loop and this can happen when you mess around with this game like this. Get used to using adb
Bat cave One
Yeah guys I'll be using adb alright.. I'll also look at greenify, but I don't want -more- services running in the background. I'll be looking out for a cracked-digi version of my tablet to test on as there aren't custom recovories available for it yet (rough waters). I'll also post back my results for all to see.
