Has anyone got it to work? Cause when i launch twilight princess it just gets black screen.
They won't develop dolphin for shield due to lack of open gl 3.0.
No big loss, there is no GC emulator for android that able to run games.

But don't some games run good? I know not all games will run @30 or @60FPS, but some games should run fine on newer models.

Shield is, but the dolphin devs said that they have dropped the support of shield due to no openGL

Get GTA:SA for PC. Connect Transformer to PC via Splashtop HD. Done.
Just install Windows and then install San Andreas

Post of the year
Is San Andreas for the PS1? There are a few PSX Emulators on the Android Market if you can figure it out. Due to the board rules, I can't help you find em
nope ps2 only.
there is playstation suite coming to android at some point this year so maybe there is still hope
There is a game similar to GTA made by Gameloft. Can't remember the name but I know its pretty good.
ya its called "gangstar" maby check out the xoom forums about it pretty sure it is not in the market for us
is there a way to get gta running on ubuntu?

San Andreas was built for the x86 cpu architecture, which is what you're running on your computer, whereas your Transformer is running on the ARM architecture. It's extremely doubtful that Rockstar would be porting and recompiling the game for our devices. The only option at that point is emulation, but considering it takes many times more processing power to run the system you're emulating, this won't be happening.
Crysis?
lol. GTA San Andreas will never happen until Windows 8 is out for a long time.

Yup use the program "WINE" plenty of tutorials on the internet
Like Rick said, GTA was built a totally different CPU architecture. Even if you did get it running in Ubuntu using Wine, it'd be incredibly laggy. Sorry to say that you're either going to need to get a netbook or try Ganstar.

It actually wouldn't work in WINE, as Wine Is Not an Emulator. WINE simply handles Windows system calls, but the application is still running natively on the same architecture. Thus, x86 applications cannot be run with WINE on ARM. (I don't actually think WINE has an ARM build anyway.)

Oh well ok, if you say so. I hardly use Ubuntu, even though I have it installed and when I do, I don't use wine either. Tried using it for Spotify and it didn't work out.
Hey Guys,
I have a newbie questions. Is there anyway to speculate (given the transfomer 2's specs) what type of next gen emulation we can expect. (I do know that 360s and Ps3's are impossible).
Thanks
well seeing as the tf can already handle ps1 emulation fairly well i'd assume that the tf2 will handle ps1 games perfectly. Correct me if im wrong but there isnt a xbox 1 or ps2 android emulator yet so its purely speculation at this point.
I doubt that were going to see any new console emulators any time soon since the systems they're trying to emulate are just becoming too complex to easily emulate. Not to mention the games themselves are pretty damn huge. As stated above AFAIK there arent even PC emulators for the Xbox1/PS2.

Nothing really. I tried the latest PS2 emulator on a machine capable running Battlefield 3 @ 1680*1050 Highest avilable settings, but some PS2 games were stuttering. And given the Transformer's specs - PS1, NES, SNES, SEGA games will be emulated - some N64 games are laggy, but don't expect anything Next gen soon.
It'll be able to run Dreamcast at full speed. The TF struggles a bit on Dreamcast currently, but still hoping for some more optimizations.
There are PS2/Xbox emulators, but they aren't anywhere near a state of being able to run on this hardware. The PS2 PC emulator can actually handle just about any game with the proper settings and a good enough rig. But don't expect it to be able to run on Tegra3... or probably even Tegra4.
It will basically involve coding the emulation core from scratch for it to be optimized enough to run on ARM and Tegra specifically. Just porting them over won't be enough.

I'm playing FFX on a PS2 emulator (PCSX2) on my pc now without any problems. That game is about 4,5gb. Really hope the Prime has enough juice to pull it off.
There was a rule of thumb that emulators would work if the hardware was at least 10x more powerful than the emulated system.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
So im guessing we will have to wait untill we have more ram aswell because the tegra 3 prime still only has 1 gig
Sent from my tf101 using xda premium 1.54Ghz
Damn, I was going to say that 10x the power thing for emulators. The thing is that emulators are imitations, not optimized for the use intended.. you know?
Added: Besides radio reception, I always wonder about this subject with new devices and chipsets, so decided to test myself and not wait.
I have been testing game emulators with the M8, since with the exception of Dolphin, all others are CPU heavy (Dolphin is heavy on GPU and CPU). MAME games like Dead or Alive ++, Rival Schools and Street Fighter EX2 are good examples that really test how powerful the CPU is, since the 3D is CPU emulated.
Though obvious Android 3D games will be faster on the M8 (S801) than the S4, MAME 3D games were just as choppy on the M8 as the S600 and S800. This kind of surprised me since expected some improvement over the S600. So far, the only chipset that MAME plays as smooth as a laptop or PC is the A7 chipset. It plays Dead or Alive, etc all smoothly. I appreciate that is two different platforms, but the app devs state both are compiled similarly to the point of the platforms not making a difference.
A7 though is a tangent to Android, but a point that it is possible for the full MAME .139 and 3D games to play smooth on a portable device. I expect the S5 will be similar to the M8 in spite of the higher clock. The 5420 Note 2014 is faster with MAME than the M8, but still not arcade smooth like the iPad Air with A7.
Perhaps the 64bit chips later this year will be the point for par. N64 and PSP were also no better framerates than the S4, but the Note 2014 is the current emulator speed leader so far for Android.
Just thought I would post this for the old school game emulator fans out there. All five of us?
I do a lot of emulating, but only for ps1 games really. All the other systems I still have and occasionally use. Gameboy color games are an exception, but for n64 and up I play them on the real deal >

The DS emulator. Drastic I think. I have the premium and it works wonders. I used it a lot on my note 2 but haven't gotten back to it mainly because I do own a DS with all the games I would want.

It's called Drastic on the playstore. xD. Full version is pricey but if you are going to use it at all it's worth it.

right on thanks! been wanting to play pokemon soul silver but havne't found a good ds emulator
EDIT: I got GBC A.D. to work just by copying the apk out of /data/app on my S4 and then moving it to my M8. Works fine. I wonder why the play store wouldn't let me have it..
I was using GBC A.D. to play all my old game boy color games but for some reason it won't work on the M8. I tried the xposed module to submit normal ppi density to the play store and that still didn't work.. I was getting so far in Crystal version too.. Wah. Anybody know an emulator that will play the same GBC rom and save file?
Any update?
I will have my portable shield in half a month so I'm preparing stuff... I wanted to know which are the best emulators for this device. I will mainly use it for this thing. From NES to whatever more I can. And one more question, I know that you can stream a game from PC to the Shield. Is it possible to stream a video?
Noone huh?
Retroarch has a ton of emulators built in from nes to psx, Reicast is a dreamcast emulator (the older version from the play store lags less), Robert Broglias emus from play store used to work great but since the latest shield update they lag, so stick with Retroarch unless you want to root and then change your cpu governor. Mupen64plus AE and n64oid are good n64 emulators but n64oid is outdated. DraStic is the best DS emulator. FPSE and ePSXE are good psx emulators but the one in Retroarch is better. PPSSPP is a good psp emu just make sure you download a nightly build.

In case you wonder how a N64 Emulator runs on our Honor 8.
I'm not surprised that emulators run really well on the Honor 8. As the HiSilicon Kirin 950 is a beast of a SOC!

That is not true, games console emulators do use the CPU and GPU intensively.
