Hi,
I have a galaxy tab 2 which I got recently. As soon as I got it home I installed the latest CM10 so not sure if this problem is software related or hardware.
Anyway the issue is that when the tablet is turned on within the first 5 minutes of use the touchscreen becomes unresponsive intermittently. The only way to get it working again after it freezes is to turn the screen off then on and the screen responds again. It will keep doing this for another few minutes or so intermittently. The stranger thing is that after the first 5 minutes or so of doing this the screen then seems to work fine for the remainder of the time I use it.
When I turn off the tab and start it again the next day, it does the same 5 minutes of intermittent unresponsiveness then fine again!
Anyone had the same problem or can suggest a fix??
Thanks.

Try to use another night or stable CM ROM. Did you have the same problem on stock ROM? Has your tablet screen protector? - it may cause some permanent lags
Sent from my GT-P5110 using Tapatalk 4
I have no screen protector. I also have the same CM10 installed on a second tab 2 I own which does not have this problem.
To me it does not feel like screen lag, but more the screen touch just switches off for no reason.
I'm not sure if it happened in the stock rom as I did not test it. I will try the latest CM10 and also stock to see if it makes a difference.

If you will see this problem in the stock rom after flashing multifiles rom with PIT-fie, you should going to service, because your recently got tab can have physical problems.

Yes I suspect this is a hardware issue as nobody else seems to have reported the same problem. I'll try the stock rom again soon.

Well I have a second tab 2 that works perfectly with CM10. I think this second tab must just be bad luck.
For general internet browsing, apps, and even most games, this tab is fine. It's quick and smooth with CM10. If you need productivity software or high end games then go for the tab 3 or the note. But for general stuff those tabs are overpriced and over spec!
Sent from my CUBOT GT99 using Tapatalk
So I've now tried flashing to CM11 and then also back to the stock, but still the same problem.....first few minutes after starting the tab the screen becomes unresponsive 4 or 5 separate times. Only turning the screen on and off makes the screen responsive again.
Then after the 5 minutes or so the screen works normally!!!
What is going on?? I assume this must be a hardware issue then??

and how do you replace a motheboard on a tab, also whats the cost of a motherboard, wouldnt be easier to just buy a new tab ?
i really love the first generation, even if its outdated and slower, it does what i need and i dont have the "middle" button that the new ones have.
I've sent it to a Samsung service center. The tab was still under warranty.

So I've been an atrix 2 user for a few months now and its a great phone...Its rooted and I just updated it with the latest ota update and kept the root and all of that good stuff. But one problem that I have been having with my phone for the past month or so is that my phone will heat up like CRAZY! Then restart and then it wont let me use it. The power button doesnt let me turn the phone on...nothing. The only way I can wake my screen is by putting the power chord in and that just lights it up it doesnt let me use the phone. It shows that everything is functioning in the background I still receive messages and my apps update ect. but I cant use me phone. It goes through this cycle for about an hour then completely kills my my battery after it runs its course. I have no idea whats wrong with my phone. Can anyone help or have any suggestions? Anything would be appreciated!
Sounds to me that you need a new phone. Is it through att? You may need to do a warranty exchange.

Yes it is from AT&T I had to do the same thing with my original Atrix, but I traded up for the atrix 2
That doesn't sound good... the OG Atrix had a couple problems with that but I've never experienced it on the A2. You should try for a warranty exchange... look at the noob thread and flash the fxz, apply the OTA update and then take it to AT&T.
Yeah I think thats what I'm going to end up doing...this especially happens when I'm listening to music on my phone it loves to freak out on me. I'm just starting to have my doubts about Motorola because my original Atrix gave me problems and I so desperately hoped that it would be fixed in this version. Is it just bad luck I got 2 phones from motorola that both freak out on me? or is it me?
I'd say bad luck.
I've had 4 A2's and, while none of them were perfect, none of them had overheating problems.

My A2 is my first Motorola. I have an htc and two samsung phones and my A2 is by far more stable than any of my previous phones. I would say you have just gotten two bad phones. Do what you want to but i would stick with Motorola. Just giving my two cents.

Try cpu master pro and change governor to ondemand.
It works on my a2.
The major problem for me now is sometimes signal dissapear.

Interesting if the problem is the governor...
Also for a free way to change the governor use ROM Toolbox (free) and go to CPU Sliders.

I really appreciate all the feedback from everyone, what I did so far is that I flashed the stock FXZ file back to my phone then updated and seems to be working like a charm buy I still think its too soon to say how its really doing. Instead of second guessing myself I think Im going to get a fresh A2 today hopefully and I won't have any problems like this again! Thanks to all the help from everyone!

I would also take a good a good look at the apps you use, some apps leave themselves running and take some good resources, and can cause your phone to overheat because of this. take a look at the resources in use from settings --> applications, go to the running apps tab, do this when the phone is hot and see what apps are taking a good bit of resources. Just a thought, as I have had this issue before, not on the exact phone I am on now, since I found the offending app and did not reinstall it the last time I got a replacement of this phone.
I wish I could check it when my phone gets hot, but when it gets to that point my phone boots me out. Not letting me touch it at all :/

Apparently the systempanel app (paid version in the market) can identify which apps were running when your phone rebooted, won't tell you whats causing it but may get you close. I dunno how to use th app very well though but I heard good things.

I've started having this problem today as well. Two days ago I noticed a very quick drop in battery level to almost nothing after going below 50%. Same thing yesterday and today. Today was the first day that I noticed the severe overheating.
I'm using the SCv5.1 ROM. I've been using it for about a month without trouble, but any chance that's the cause? I'd love to not need to return the phone to ATT.
The only time I experienced these symptoms was after restoring an AtrixBlaze ROM.
Flashed back to stock w/root, then OTA. Restored a backup of RebelROM. No problems since. Was very concerned for a day that it had some how damaged the phone.
I've been through Iphone, Palm Pre and HTC, this phone beats them all except for WebOS which was the software on the Pre. That was an amazing OS with a lot of potential.

Using Jimbridgman's advice above, I looked at some of my apps. I had been using Green Power Premium (paid) and it just updated a few days ago. I disabled it and have not had an issue since, but I have yet to go through an entire power cycle.
I bought my Atrix 2 in India yesterday. Everything works like charm except the earpiece. The voice I get from the other party is so shrill that I need to keep my phone away from my ear to understand what they are saying . There are 4 settings in all to change the voice quality of the earpiece but it seems they are of no use. On the last setting, I can even hear my own voice from the earpiece. Also, when I tap my phone around the 3.5mm jack area, I hear a sound that makes me feel that something is loose inside. Is it a known issue or a bug or its just me who’s facing this? What’s the way out? Thanks in advance.
So I recently purchased the NS. I have one problem though: the very right side of the screen (0.5 cm from the end of the screen) the touchscreen is very unresponsive. Sometimes it responds sometimes it doesn't. On my previous phone (LG Optimus 2x) when running CM7 there was the same glitch. The very left side on my NS it's very responsive. I'm running stock 2.3.6 . What is my problem?
Thanks
U just got the phone and having all Stock with that issue, if I was u, I would use the warranty to solve that imediatly (or u can try to upgrade to newer ROM to see if that's a software prob.)
cheers
wipe the screen down with some alcohol to be sure

Don't do this, you'll risk prematurely eating your oleophobic coat. I'd find some touchscreen testing app first, and if the problem persists go to samsung.
Ok, I updated to 2.3.6 and the touchscreen is a bit better. Maybe that's just my impression. Are you sure none of you have this problem? hmm. So should I send it to Samsung for repair?
I haven't had this problem at all, my phones touchscreen is flawless everywhere. I would first talk to samsung and hope you don't get someone incompetent, then send it in if need be.

OH man. I don't want to be phoneless for a month though However I do have a year warranty and I only purchased the phone 3 days ago so I can wait and see if it get's worse before returning it for repair. It really doesn't bother me for now since I never touch the last 3 mm of the screen anyways.
Hi friends....

It could be the "sleep of death" that has plagued various versions of Android. I experienced it after upgrading to JB 4.1.2, I had a number of episodes until I determined that a pre-update installed app (Sipdroid) was the culprit triggering the problem and uninstalled it. When my note went into the sleep of death, a long power button hold didn't turn it back on. After googling I found the solution to re-power my note--keep a finger on the touch screen while depressing the power button. Be careful when downloading apps. Download individually and test to make sure*it doesn' t introduce problems. Also keep things backed up so you can do a system restore.
I don't believe it was SOD as the tablet wouldn't be replaced for that. They'd just take back and reflash the OS... This sounds like a hardware fault...
I was downloading asphalt 7 heat from play store
It was almost 50 % download
don't khow what happen then...

I was afraid my tablet's entry into SOD was a hardware failure because holding down the power button did nothing. It was only when using a suggestion in a Samsung forum (found through Google) to keep a finger on the touch screen while pressing the power button that I was able to get my Note to reboot. I've not had a SOD incident since deleting Sipdroid, but the several episodes of SOD that I had before finding the offending app required that I keep a finger on the touch screen while pressing the power button, otherwise the tablet wouldn't reboot but looked dead.
I m just worried that it could be happen to next tab.
In india there is a policy from sansung that if your device has any prob it will be replaced with in 7 days they will not repaire it

Use a backup program so you can reinstall your apps and settings on a new tablet. Be careful what apps you install; compatibility issues between an app and your tablet's version of Android can cause significant stability issues. Devices in SOD look dead. A long press of the power button on a Samsung tablet in SOD will sometimes work to get the device to reboot, but not always. Some tablets in SOD can only be rebooted by keeping a finger on the touch screen while pressing the power button. Good luck.
Well thanks guys for your suggestions

Hello,
My Xperia Z broke and I sold it. Last week I bought a Nexus 5 (white) and yesterday the touchscreen suddenly stopped working while browsing twitter. I rebooted and the touchscreen worked for 1 sec and then it stopped working again. It keeps working for 1 - 5 sec and then stops.
Is there a way I can fix this? The phone is rooted because I wanted to copy WhatsApp over from another phone because I lost my sim bound to whatsapp.
I can go to the shop I bought it and get it fixed under warranty because I did not do anything weird with the phone nor dropped it. but first I want to see if it can be fixed from home or if it is a software problem because the shop is a hour drive and I don't want to do without my phone for another 2 weeks.
Thanks in advance!
This should have been posted in q&a, not general. But to answer your question, you're going to have to warranty it.
If you want to be sure it's hardware, reflash the factory image and see if anything changes. But it's most likely hardware at this point.

I hope we are not going to get this part functioning screen problem with the N5. I bought a Nexus 5 last week only because part of my N4's screen stopped responding to touch after having it for only 14 months from new.

If it's happened to two of your devices, maybe it's something you're doing to it.

Hey was that something like this, it happened with me once.
Funny, I'm having this issue as well. I wonder what's causing this? Are you undervolted?
I think its a hardware issue maybe the LCD data ribon cable is faulty as seeing this as a kid when you unskrew the cable connection to the TV you get a similar effect

Yeah this is a hardware issue, RMA it ASAP.
er...I found the cause, kernel is conflict with my using ROM, try diffrent rom and it's OK
Old thread but I'm still a Nexus 5 user and this randomly started happening to me, I verified it wasn't software when forced a restart in all modes and still had it. Long story short, had pieces from my old Nexus 5, replaced the ribbon and all good for 2 days now.
I've seen that too, in my situation it's caused by one particular APP that seems no compatible with either ROM or kernel, just force stop the APP and the issue is solved.
Maybe you can try another ROM or kernel to see if it still happens.
