does the sticker on the back need to be readable? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

for a warranty claim?
My sticker is still on but its almost 100% white now. And my bootloader is unlocked (but still on the factory ROM) so should I relock it?

You can take off that sticker btw.
I'd relock it just to be safe and reset the tamperflag with bootunlocker, but google said themselves that rooted phones don't void the warranty if it's a nexus.

Keep in mind that if you need to unlock the bootloader again for any reason, it will wipe your data, but I guess you can do a backup and restore if you have a custom recovery installed. Definitely a wise idea though (especially in retrospect).

Can you point me to a reference to Google making this statement? It might come in handy if I run into warranty issues when I return my faulty device.

As I understand it, it is just a counter. But anyone with a bit of a brain could /
would know that you had flashed / rooted your tablet. The main concern most
people have is in returning the tablet, where the manufacturer or dealer would
know that you flashed software and this MAY void your warranty.

you understand correctly, and yes, Triangle Away resets that counter. However it's also worth mentioning that with recent Samsung devices, even if you reset the counter the device will still be marked as MODIFIED. Which makes it pretty much silly to use anyways. You basically need to be unrooted for that to go away in the case you need to claim warranty... But then there's probably something wrong with the tablet that would prevent one from resetting that if you're looking at the warranty. Have a 0 counter all you want, if they find superuser/SuperSU and some root apps... then you're caught

Tamper Counter/Warranty - Help!

Hi Guys,
Really need your help!
So, my Nexus wouldn't start up (got caught in bootloop), so i cleared cache - still wouldn't work. So then i did factory reset - still wouldn't work. Finally, I unlocked the bootloader and re-flashed the stock android (as per htt ps://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Still didn't fix the problem so now i called google and they agreed to replace it on warranty (pending inspection)
The issue is that the tamper flag is now marked as True.
1) If this is a hardware issue, will the tamper flag stop me getting warranty?
2) Is there a way to remove the tamper flag given that i cant turn the phone on? All of the solutions Ive seen involve running scripts off the internal storage of the phone (which I can't access since I can't boot)
Any help/advice/experience you could give me would be greatly appreciated
Cheers,
Novic3

Hi,
I have seen that guide but as mentioned above, the problem with it is that I need to access the internal storage of the phone (which I cannot do) to untick the tamper flag.
Any thoughts on another way to do it?

Since you said you wiped cache I assumed that you had access to recovery and bootloader. So from recovery:
Code:
adb push "bootunlock".zip /sdcard/
Then proceed with the booting into twrp and flashing it. Honestly though, Google doesn't care if you unlocked and rooted. I sent a phone back with a custom ROM still on it and they honored warranty.

[Q] Phone keeps trying to update to lollipop although I am not interested

Hi everyone,
I have one phone that I updated to lollipop, and I am not happy with the battery life. It drains my battery, also in stand bye.
My sister's phone is still on kitkat, but updates keep restarting again and again every minute, even when I force stopping the application. The only way I succeeded to stop it is by disable download manager, but it also disables google play, and preventing the other applications from updating, so it is not a good idea.
Any suggestion how can I stay on kitkat, and stop these updates from restarting?
Thank you!

The OnePlus is DIFFERENT. Unlocking the bootloader and installing custom ROMs will NOT void your warranty - this is one of the main selling points.
It's a piece of p155 to install custom ROMs on as well - I've never know a device so simple.

Sorry, where did you buy your phone from? Your warranty is with OnePlus no matter what shop you buy it from, online or physical.
Any option will require unlocking and rooting the device, so you'll have no choice one way or another.
It is a local warranty.
Is that the only solution to my problem?

If the phone was bought through a third party, which it was, then the warranty is with that seller, not OnePlus.

I guess that may be purely down to where he is from, because certainly in Europe it's not the case.
I buy a TV from my local electrical retailer... My warranty is still with Samsung, not with the retailer.
As long as I have the proof of purchase, Samsung has to honour the warranty.
My warranty is local, that is the problem.
Anyway, I guess I am stacked with my problem?
Will I have to update to lollipop?
Thanks.
Hmm, you can just freeze the Software Update via Titanium Backup or just disable it, that will hide the update notification. I am still running on 4.4 though.
When I disable download manager, it also disables Google play store, since I can't download or update applications.

Bypass Lockscreen

My friend uses Honor 6X. He is on stock Nougat ROM. He is no more now. Is there a way to bypass his phone's Lockscreen without losing data so we could get to know some details we need?
*And his phone's bootloader is Locked.
*No way to enable developer options.
*Can i boot into fastboot mode and using adb commands can i boot via TWRP temporarily?
Since the bootloader is locked, the only thing he can do is factory reset.
Don't forget to remember which Google account he used, as it will be required after the factory reset

New OnePlus 7 Pro – and it only has Widevine L3?

I would appreciate some help with an issue that I'm having, if anyone else knows the answer or has encountered this themselves. I have a OnePlus 7 Pro running stock OxygenOS, and which to my knowledge, had never had its bootloader unlocked.
I noticed using the DRM Info app that the Widevine status is L3 for some inexplicable reason. I did a factory reset, unlocked and relocked the bootloader (at OnePlus' suggestion), but it's to no avail – it's still showing as L3. Shows in Netflix look horrible, which basically confirms that the applications correctly seeing it as L3. I even used the MSM Download Tool to do a complete flash, and it's still on L3.
Has anyone come across this before? The device is not rooted, running stock firmware, and does not have an unlocked bootloader. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

No, that's not it, because it was like this before I personally did anything...and relocking the bootloader would restore L1. At least, that's how it works on every other phone I've ever been exposed to.

Oh NO! Really? That's literally the only thing that I could think of that would be preventing it from going back to L1, but that's ridiculous, if true. FWIW, they literally instructed me to do unlock and relock it, and told me that it would neither void the warranty nor keep it at L3 permanently. I'm hoping this phone is not different from others in that respect.

It does restore it. I've unlocked and relocked my phone, and have L1 after relocking.
NB - one option for OP could be to reflash latest firmware. It's possible the DRM keys are not correct, and maybe this will fix it.
If it still doesn't work on a locked bootloader with latest stock FW, it sound like a potential HW issue to me.

They do get restored. To read drm keys, you now need a locked bootloader Unlocking will make them unreadable(L1->L3), but not delete the keys, so relocking will get you L1 again.

I guess it's a hardware fault. DRM keys can only be written by OnePlus, that's why people had to send their OnePlus 5s in to get DRM upgraded. Maybe it was corrupted from factory so there's no way for you to change that. I would suggest sending it in for warranty.

That's DRM gone way, way rogue. What is the solution to restore L1? I understand content creators may like protections like this, but if it can't be restored even after relocking, that's extremely disrespectful to people who have every right to lock/unlock the bootloader on their own device.
Are you sure that it didn't go back to L1? If that's the case, others have told me that's as much of an anomaly as my situation. It should revert back once you're on a stock firmware with a locked bootloader...
