Welcome to the official Holofication Nation thread.
#holoyolo
http://www.holonation.co.uk/
Holofication Nation is currently a three man team, however, we plan to expand so we can produce more holo goodness in a shorter
time than the time it takes us to make them right now. Holofication Nation started off on Google+ as a small community,
we started to grow and we still continue to
Current Holofication Nation team members:
https://plus.google.com/u/0/+ConnorKirkby/
https://plus.google.com/u/0/+BrandonDSouza/

Our goal is simple, to do what those big companies can't do, make a decent UI.
Currently we have a small selection of apps, just 5. The small number mean nothing, all of our apps
are up to a high standard to ensure that you have the best experience possible. Even after the first release, we continue to work
on the apps, to squash bugs and improve the UI even further. Below is a list of the current apps that we have modified (The list will grow!)
Instagram
Steam
Pandora
CNN
Grooveshark
Last.FM
You must uninstall the official application to install these mods.
To download our mods, visit our website or join the Google+ community and click "App Releases"
"How do I keep up with your work?"
It's simple, just join our Google+ community, all development will take place there. Other social networking sites will be added soon!

Other information:
We will not modify system apps

I just got approved - will do

Looking forward to this project! HOLOYOLO!

You know what really needs to be Holofied? The Olive Tree Bible Study app. The interface was ugly even when it matched Gingerbread.
Excellent work, though, guys!

waiting for more apps to come... I'l leave suggestions on G+
Thanks for your work ... cheers!

Judging by the screenshots, your steam app is not HOLO at all. Improper navigation drawer, wrong action overflow button, and other aspects make it definitely not HOLO.

The navigation drawer cannot be modified to be the actual navigation drawer. The overflow button is the correct one which is in use in 4.4 KitKat. I made sure to stick by the design guidelines as closely as I could. At least it's no longer an eye-sore, huh?

I was wondering when we would finally get a central location for things like this. Would you mind posting the instagram without the transparent status bars. Its a little too ios's looking with the action bar flowing into the status bar.

We will be releasing two versions at each update, one without translucent system bars and one without.

Nice idea but you should consider creating xposed modules instead of patching apps.
This way users still can update the apps from playstore and you don't need to patch every version.

really cool  :good:

Nice!!

Lets see.
Amazon
OOkla speed test
Solid explorer
PicSpeed wallpapers
Kik messenger
CPU Master free
Um thats just a list of ideas. these are very popular apps and most have an old outdated UI
Love your work man good job!:good:

App seems nice. It could be interesting to have a widget instead of opening app and I don't like when then text couldn't fit the page that you link to the site to read the rest of the news.

So I think it should have a scrollable text view for the facts so that I don't have to link to the website?
A widget for "your daily fact" is an awesome idea, thanks for that!

Yes I was meaning that
The idea is pretty good, a widget would make it great !
Even more with the new DayDram mode on Android 4.2 you could have your facts randomly displayed when the devices are docked or charging.
Could be fun.

Thanks for the suggestion!
Can any one please download it and try it out. I am sorry I had to ask this, there has been some issues after the latest update. It would be greatly appreciated if you can check it opens on your mobile.
I just wanted to know whether this is happening for new installations!

Somebody please help me and give me more ideas!
Did a UI improvement, let me know your thoughts!
Nice work
Cool Facts App just ahad a major UI revamp and now supports a lot more compared to the previous version.
Some updated functionalities include:
* Report false facts
* Copy the fact to clipboard and use/share it wherever you want!
Hope you like it, let me know your suggestions!
Force closes when I press "copy to clipboard" but other than that, cool.
Personally, if I were you, I would add a possibility to hide all the buttons at the buttom of screen for users who wouldn't use them. Maybe make the text a bit smaller (it's bigger on my 2.3.7 Gingerbread than on your screenshots, though) and maybe make the text "justify aligned" (I'm a bit fan of "justify alignment", lol)... Just some tips to make the app look a bit more simplistic, maybe.

Thanks a lot for the feedbacks!
I think I can include a button to toggle the visibility of all the buttons! that would be okay right?
I think the clipboard function is making the error because of your older version. I think I will have to check the version on which the app is running and then decide whether or not to show the button!

Possibly.
Make a text size adjuster too, if you can .. and maybe center allign the text if "justify" is not possible in Androd (I dont think it is).
Just some tips
Added button to disable all the buttons!
Let me know how do you like the new update!
I like facts, so I like this app . It is also a bit addicting searching for new facts which are more or less useful to know .

[INVITES] Rheti- Build native Android apps on your phone

Hi Everybody,
This is the Rheti dev team. If you haven't heard about us we've created an app that lets you build native Android apps on your phone, without coding. We've just launched a major update to our free private beta and we'd love to know what you think. If you sign up for our beta at http://www.rheti.com and mention XDA in the reason for your application we'll make sure to let you in.
An overview of some the changes (there were quite a few):
-Integrated Blockly, the open source javascript visual programming language maintained by MIT. You can now build features (events/automation on the way) with Blockly and add them to the app.
-Backend feature redone to make it easier. We have tutorials on the site for how to do this as well.
-Added a bunch of components like augmented reality, youtube feeds, and so on.
-Added some templates. We're adding several more each day this week.
If you have any ideas or constructive criticism please let us know! We are adding lots more components and relying on your feedback to know what to add, so if you give us an idea there is a good chance we will use it.
Thanks!
Also, I forgot to add some images :

We recently added a Youtube feed feature so yes you can. You can customize the UI through the feed editor and it will look different than the Andromo ones, which do all look the same. We are currently fixing a small issue with the full screen features but that should be done later today. There is also a YouTube login/upvote/comment feature.
Other feeds we have are RSS feeds, Parse feeds, and Google Doc feeds. Using parse you can do some pretty advanced stuff like add augmented reality, create signature forms (for things like petitions) and there are a couple more that aren't coming to mind.
Thanks for your interest
Awesome Buddy :good: Sure i'll try

Only yesterday was I searching for a similar app. And my quest was unsuccessful. I clearly see why xda rocks and subscribing to this feed can be a god send

[APP CONCEPT] Facebook Holo/Google-style app design concept

Holo Facebook app concept
The Facebook's app new flat UI is quite nice but it's still far off the Holo design. This is why I designed this concept of what I always wanted the Facebook app to look like. It is basically the current Facebook flat UI with parts based on the latest update of the Google Newsstand app. The first photo shows the phone version, the rest show the tablet (Nexus 7) version in portrait mode.
I am not a developer so there is no way I will be actually able to make this app, but I decided to share it in case there is a developer who could! If so make sure to contact me.

I would add a translucent status bar except I am against the use of it in certain apps, it makes the top of the app look strangely long and it makes it seem like Android is following everything iOS is doing. I love the translucent bars when it comes to showing pictures (something the stock gallery ironically doesn't do), the home launcher and a few other places where it works really well, however when the app has the huge menu/title bar at the top I think there isn't much purpose to have it translucent as it just shows the colour behind it.

Thank you! and I hope so as well! The current Facebook app layout is a huge improvement over the previous one which simply looked horrid in my opinion, but the current one still could be improved. My idea shows the holo concept, it would make the Facebook app more consistent with the other Android apps and therefore easier/more enjoyable to use.
I think Google should definitely have more control or enforce more of their guidelines for the app designs because what we have right now (especially from 3rd party apps, especially big ones like Facebook) is inconsistent mess really. Google needs to do something about it but honestly they need to do something about their apps first, if you want to know what I mean just open an app like Play Store or Newsstand and look at the layout and icons there and at the icons for search and pop out menu, then open their brand new app of Docs and just look at everything as a whole! The slide out menu is completely different from their other apps, and the icons on the title bar are also different, why change the search icon, the previous one was nice!
I am aware that I am looking at details here, but really these are quite major ones really, if this is the way Google is going with their apps (I mean the style of Docs) then that's fine with me, just please update the other apps to go along with it!
Sorry for the long paragraph but I honestly think they should do something about it, I'm pretty sure there are others who feel the same way as me.
That's an awsome concept, and some awsome design. I'm actually a little bit disappointed that such an app is not available yet.
You may..no..You Definitely should talk to guys at the Holofication Nation. They are Holofying apps for quite some time now.
Oh, and please keep posted about new developments. :fingers-crossed:

Thank you! And I am disappointed too! I'm aware of the holofication nation and they're doing some great work!
The Facebook app is a tricky one since its UI isn't controlled by the app, but by the server (that's what I've heard) therefore can't be themed, which would mean a new app would have to be made.
I wish I could be able to actually make an app like that but since I don't know much about coding (I know quite a bit about theming) I can't really do anything, I can provide a concept at least!
I'm planning to make a Holo concept for the Twitter app as well, it will be similar to this one (I think).
Would anyone like to see a Quantum Paper Facebook app concept?
For those who don't know Quantum Paper is the rumoured new user interface which will be seen in the upcoming version Android (and other platforms), for more information head over to Android Police

Holofication Nation released a holo modfication to the official Steam app on the Play Store. The official Steam app hadn't been
updated in quite a while, and now it's got to the point where it's been three years since the last update of the official application.
Holofication Nation modifies applications so that they follow the most up to date design guidelines for Android, and as per usual, we've done it again.
What is this?
This App is a modification to the official app from Valve on the Play Store. This mod completely changes the user interface from the ugly interface
that is currently in use, to a more pleasing interface known as "Material design". The visuals of this app follow the Android design guidelines as closely as it
possibly can without having to recode the entire app.
As well as this app being a visual update, the app also comes with speed increases, stability and general smoothness all the way throughout the app.
A closer look
The standard app uses images for the text input box, send button and many more features of the app; using images for assets such as this contribute
to slowing down the speed of the app due to there being more files to read from. I have removed the need for many images in this app by moving the assets
from using images to using official Android code (Assets such as chat text input and the send button).
Every single visual asset of this app has been changed and rebuilt using the Android guidelines. The action bar is no longer an ugly bar with diagonal pin stripes
with a gradient overlay, it's now a single colour Android toolbar. The chat bubbles are no longer obnoxious low quality bubbles, they're now high quality boxes
similar to that of the boxes used for Hangouts. All these visual changes and more in the app.
On the official app, scrolling through web pages (such as people's profiles) was painful, scrolling would take forever with a huge noticeable lag on every scroll,
making tasks such as viewing your games list unbearable.
Screenshots

Great design, good job
Recommendation:
- Male more color schemes ( Light blue, red, green, black...)
- Bring back user avatar on the left panel
Firstly good work, you have saved our souls.
Would it be possible to add in extra stuff in the settings that could make the app more 'personal' such as colour changes to the text bubble or the theme etc..
The stuff other users have said
If possible I'm not sure, putting a button hat takes you to the steam community homepage and keep us logged in

«Friends» is a journal-based app. You write about your interactions with friends and app tells you how long you haven't met them. When the magic number of days passes, entries turn from grey white, which should (in my design) encourage you to interact again.

Links
My app is an open-source project, so here is the repository. Folks not in favor of Google Play Store may find fresh apk there.
Feedback
This is my first android app, so I would be glad to receive any feedback. Here is my telegram, in case you love it as much as I do.
Especially I would like to hear about errors. I want to get rid of them all, so your feedback might be a great help.

App future and contribution
As I said, «Friends» is my first android app. I want it to help people. And I have little experience in that. So I would be glad to receive help or advice on the next things.
Design
I am using an almost default android theme. It's ok for starters, but I want my app to be nice and beautiful.
Are there any good guides on mobile app design? What colour should I use instead of that bleak green? In-app animations are must, or not?
Features
Have any ideas on that else «Friends» might do to benefit users? Don't hesitate, tell me.
Wording and app name
I wrote most of the in-app text in a hurry. Sometimes better wordings come to my mind and I apply them. If some in-app text doesn't feel right for you, tell me.
Also, the name. I'm still in search of the good one. «In touch»? «Quality time»? «Call your mom»? If you have any ideas, I'm all ears.
Promotion
So far, I've shown «Friends» to my, well, friends and some corners of the runet. But I want more. My friends recommended to write at reddit, medium, dev.to and I'm planning to do so. Heard that there is such a thing as «landing page». Might do that too.
Would love to hear anything on single-handed promotion. What steps you've taken, where to go first and all that.
In search of The User
How do you think, who might benefit from my app?
Some of my polyamorous friends are enjoying it and that's sweet. I think support groups might find it useful, but am not sure. Networkers? Huge family members? Folks who need to check on their clients from time to time?
How can I connect to all these wonderful people? Are there any organizations or campaigns I might get in touch with?

@trulden Unless you know and only if interested, here you might find some guys happy to translate your app into other languages.

Thanks! Didn't knew about that thread.
Added a night mode. What do you think about it?
Also changed app icon color from bleak green to the same shade of yellow as used in app. Love the color, but now it doesn't feel connected to day mode of an app.
I am such a forgetter. Thanks for sharing
@Oswald Boelcke, very useful thread
@trulden good job with the app. The new icon seems far more attractive. I think you will get better results with it.
