Well, this is my first ever attempt on google android app development. I just wanted to share it here. Let me hear your comments, critics, feedbacks etc.
I know there is a lot of room for improvement in this app.

App seems nice. It could be interesting to have a widget instead of opening app and I don't like when then text couldn't fit the page that you link to the site to read the rest of the news.

So I think it should have a scrollable text view for the facts so that I don't have to link to the website?
A widget for "your daily fact" is an awesome idea, thanks for that!

Yes I was meaning that
The idea is pretty good, a widget would make it great !
Even more with the new DayDram mode on Android 4.2 you could have your facts randomly displayed when the devices are docked or charging.
Could be fun.

Done that and updated the app. I will try to come up with a widget options soon!
Thanks for the suggestion!
Can any one please download it and try it out. I am sorry I had to ask this, there has been some issues after the latest update. It would be greatly appreciated if you can check it opens on your mobile.
I just wanted to know whether this is happening for new installations!

Did a UI improvement, let me know your thoughts!
Nice work
Cool Facts App just ahad a major UI revamp and now supports a lot more compared to the previous version.
Some updated functionalities include:
* Report false facts
* Copy the fact to clipboard and use/share it wherever you want!
Hope you like it, let me know your suggestions!
Force closes when I press "copy to clipboard" but other than that, cool.
Personally, if I were you, I would add a possibility to hide all the buttons at the buttom of screen for users who wouldn't use them. Maybe make the text a bit smaller (it's bigger on my 2.3.7 Gingerbread than on your screenshots, though) and maybe make the text "justify aligned" (I'm a bit fan of "justify alignment", lol)... Just some tips to make the app look a bit more simplistic, maybe.

Thanks a lot for the feedbacks!
I think I can include a button to toggle the visibility of all the buttons! that would be okay right?
I think the clipboard function is making the error because of your older version. I think I will have to check the version on which the app is running and then decide whether or not to show the button!

Possibly.
Make a text size adjuster too, if you can .. and maybe center allign the text if "justify" is not possible in Androd (I dont think it is).
Just some tips
Added button to disable all the buttons!
Let me know how do you like the new update!
I like facts, so I like this app . It is also a bit addicting searching for new facts which are more or less useful to know .

Hi, Draw2Dial has been updated to 1.1 fixing a few minor bugs found by users.
People seem to like it so I must say thank you for the nice ratings, reviews and feedback.
Any shortcuts availble?
Is it possible to have a shortcut to launch the gesture field directly without having to press the tab? It would also go nicely combined with an invisible tab.
Just some thoughts. Good start! =]
Hello, thanks for sharing your thoughts about the app. A -almost- invisible tab icon is a great idea and I will get on it soon.
As for the shortcut, do you mean having it instead of the tab, so you can launch the gesture field from certain home screens only?

Done.
Also, app has been updated.
v1.2
- New customization options (three new service icons)
- Minor bug fixes
Useful app that i would love to try. However......
Remembering the "speed dial" numbers is do-able no prob. But would it be possible to have the option of drawing of drawing initials??
To set it up so i could draw JM or CL ect... to get a contact that the app has linked to that input??
Just a thought.
I really like this app it works well but if I may I would like to suggest that if its possible to add the ability to draw out a complete 7 digit number and save it for those occasions when you need to take down a new phone number. I think that kind of functionality would be tremendously useful especially if it can be done from the lock screen. Again just a suggestion.

Awesome app. Patent this right away dude or an OEM is gonna use it as a "new" feature.
Nice app and very useful especially on the lock screen. Suggest that once enabled icon should be invisible from the lockscreen but is running in the background. What do you think?
great app but useless with talkback for my blind dad
very nice idea, couse with ICS and furthermore we lost speed dial in phone app (it was present in froyo and GB)
but it needs work...i tested, it's soo hard to recognize #1 or #9....then for example ...contact was saved #1 ...i draw 5 to test ....it said...there is no contact on 5 but it dials the 1
or i draw 8 and it wants 3...etc.
but overall realy great idea...was looking for speed dial app

Hi all!
I wasn't satisfied with any of the current methods of accessing all apps/contacts so I set out to create my own.
I present to you, Snype.
Snype has a unique dual-index system where switching between "snyping" apps and contacts is almost instant. It has changed the way I use my device and has done the same for many of my beta testers.
It also has a unique "side panel" mode where apps and contacts can be accessed simply by scrolling a finger up or down the edge of the display, which is always active no matter which app you are currently in. A list will appear and automatically begin scrolling to the location in the index that the finger is pointing to.
Snype does not try to replace your launcher. In fact, I designed it so that I would be able to use any launcher I like and not have to worry about the launcher's implementation of the app drawer. This means it's very easy to have a completely uncluttered, beautiful home screen and still be only a second away from accessing any app or contact you desire.
There are no ads and all functionality is available for free. The premium upgrade allows full customisation of the appearance of the lists.
Let me know how it goes for you!
I should mention that the premium upgrade is available for $0.99 for a short period of time to celebrate the launch of Snype. It will be a bit more later.

Really good app. I will give you 5 stars!
Some things to change:
- Add more languages
- if possible the alphabet lists have a title to know that one it is for apps, and the other for contacts.
- A widget and a direct access from home.

Thanks for the excellent feedback.
More languages is actually a surprisingly large challenge due to the indexes. It is something that I might look into again later, but when I was having a crack at it before there were some significant technical hurdles.
I have thought about doing something to let you know at a glance which is for apps and which is for contacts... like different colours or something. I'm not sure. Where do you think the title should go? There's not much room there.
I also looked into doing a widget. Unfortunately widgets don't support all kinds of views so making a widget with this functionality is impossible unless the launcher is built specifically for it. That's actually the main reason I implemented the side panels, because I knew the widget would not be possible.
ability to launch apps in halo would be nice. And maybe icon theme support. Very nice and useful app by the way:good:

I just released an update to fix some crashes in the initial release.
I just released an update which added animation to the side panels, adds Snype to the list of apps and fixes some bugs. I'm still trying to hunt down some bugs that occur only on some devices. Let me know if you have one of those devices please.
Okay, I think I've got all the known bugs fixed. Let me know if there's anything else wonky.
Just released an update with a new feature: favourites bar.
Now it's even faster to access those special few apps and contacts you use most often.
I love the ability to search contracts easily! And light theme looks cool.
Keep it up!:good:

Very good idea. I'm thinking about replacing my app drawer with this app. Unfortunately the fly in and out animations are somewhat jerky (using a Note 3).

Yeah, Samsung devices seem to do that. I'm not sure why, since even my Galaxy Nexus is pretty smooth and the Note 3 is much more powerful. I'll keep trying to make it smoother for you.
Holo Facebook app concept
The Facebook's app new flat UI is quite nice but it's still far off the Holo design. This is why I designed this concept of what I always wanted the Facebook app to look like. It is basically the current Facebook flat UI with parts based on the latest update of the Google Newsstand app. The first photo shows the phone version, the rest show the tablet (Nexus 7) version in portrait mode.
I am not a developer so there is no way I will be actually able to make this app, but I decided to share it in case there is a developer who could! If so make sure to contact me.

I would add a translucent status bar except I am against the use of it in certain apps, it makes the top of the app look strangely long and it makes it seem like Android is following everything iOS is doing. I love the translucent bars when it comes to showing pictures (something the stock gallery ironically doesn't do), the home launcher and a few other places where it works really well, however when the app has the huge menu/title bar at the top I think there isn't much purpose to have it translucent as it just shows the colour behind it.

Thank you! and I hope so as well! The current Facebook app layout is a huge improvement over the previous one which simply looked horrid in my opinion, but the current one still could be improved. My idea shows the holo concept, it would make the Facebook app more consistent with the other Android apps and therefore easier/more enjoyable to use.
I think Google should definitely have more control or enforce more of their guidelines for the app designs because what we have right now (especially from 3rd party apps, especially big ones like Facebook) is inconsistent mess really. Google needs to do something about it but honestly they need to do something about their apps first, if you want to know what I mean just open an app like Play Store or Newsstand and look at the layout and icons there and at the icons for search and pop out menu, then open their brand new app of Docs and just look at everything as a whole! The slide out menu is completely different from their other apps, and the icons on the title bar are also different, why change the search icon, the previous one was nice!
I am aware that I am looking at details here, but really these are quite major ones really, if this is the way Google is going with their apps (I mean the style of Docs) then that's fine with me, just please update the other apps to go along with it!
Sorry for the long paragraph but I honestly think they should do something about it, I'm pretty sure there are others who feel the same way as me.
That's an awsome concept, and some awsome design. I'm actually a little bit disappointed that such an app is not available yet.
You may..no..You Definitely should talk to guys at the Holofication Nation. They are Holofying apps for quite some time now.
Oh, and please keep posted about new developments. :fingers-crossed:

Thank you! And I am disappointed too! I'm aware of the holofication nation and they're doing some great work!
The Facebook app is a tricky one since its UI isn't controlled by the app, but by the server (that's what I've heard) therefore can't be themed, which would mean a new app would have to be made.
I wish I could be able to actually make an app like that but since I don't know much about coding (I know quite a bit about theming) I can't really do anything, I can provide a concept at least!
I'm planning to make a Holo concept for the Twitter app as well, it will be similar to this one (I think).
Would anyone like to see a Quantum Paper Facebook app concept?
For those who don't know Quantum Paper is the rumoured new user interface which will be seen in the upcoming version Android (and other platforms), for more information head over to Android Police
Introduction
Sometimes I forget how long I haven't met some of my friends. And I don't want to forget that. So I've made «Friends».
«Friends» is a journal-based app. You write about your interactions with friends and app tells you how long you haven't met them. When the magic number of days passes, entries turn from grey white, which should (in my design) encourage you to interact again.

Features
• Journal interactions with friends.
• See how long you haven't met.
• Set how often you want to meet, text or call.
• Set frequency of interactions per type of interaction or person.
• Hide people you don't actually wanna see again.
• Take some notes about friends.

App future and contribution
As I said, «Friends» is my first android app. I want it to help people. And I have little experience in that. So I would be glad to receive help or advice on the next things.
Design
I am using an almost default android theme. It's ok for starters, but I want my app to be nice and beautiful.
Are there any good guides on mobile app design? What colour should I use instead of that bleak green? In-app animations are must, or not?
Features
Have any ideas on that else «Friends» might do to benefit users? Don't hesitate, tell me.
Wording and app name
I wrote most of the in-app text in a hurry. Sometimes better wordings come to my mind and I apply them. If some in-app text doesn't feel right for you, tell me.
Also, the name. I'm still in search of the good one. «In touch»? «Quality time»? «Call your mom»? If you have any ideas, I'm all ears.
Promotion
So far, I've shown «Friends» to my, well, friends and some corners of the runet. But I want more. My friends recommended to write at reddit, medium, dev.to and I'm planning to do so. Heard that there is such a thing as «landing page». Might do that too.
Would love to hear anything on single-handed promotion. What steps you've taken, where to go first and all that.
In search of The User
How do you think, who might benefit from my app?
Some of my polyamorous friends are enjoying it and that's sweet. I think support groups might find it useful, but am not sure. Networkers? Huge family members? Folks who need to check on their clients from time to time?
How can I connect to all these wonderful people? Are there any organizations or campaigns I might get in touch with?

Also changed app icon color from bleak green to the same shade of yellow as used in app. Love the color, but now it doesn't feel connected to day mode of an app.

Really appreciate you taking the time to try out maximal
I've sent you a DM with the code, do check your inbox
Suggestions:
1. A little snappier on drawer opening. There's a little bit of lag.
2. The ability to rename what we put in the list. For example if I put "Kiwi Browser" on there I want to be able to change it to "Browser" for a cleaner look.
Happy to give it a spin and provide feedback. Please share a code.

1. Are you talking about a lag in the animation or the loading of the list? I'm working on a different implementation for the list but I haven't seen any animation lag myself
2. That makes sense! I'll add it to my planned feature list maybe something like a longpress menu in the settings screen? with options to rename, view info etc.
Maybe it's just my phone. I'll try it on another fresh device as well as a fresh install on mine, and report back.
Thanks. Love the minimalism.
Hey can I get a promo code too , seems nice to try

Code has been dropped into your inbox
It was my phone causing the lag.
Will you post updates to this thread before the Play Store, or how will you do it?
Love it so far.
Very minimal.

Is that the "white power" "ok" logo for the app?

Looks interesting for sure. Quick and efficient.

To be honest, I'm pretty new to being a developer
I'll stick to updating on the play store itself for now, but I'll drop a post every time an update is pushed
As I say that, I've pushed an update adding the ability to "rename apps" should be visible in 24 hours at the latest
Wonderful. When I get the update, I will test and report back
Also, how about the ability to "hide" apps from the list.
For people with plenty of apps, the scroll list could take awhile.
If this is implemented, it would be perfect for me.

I'm unsure of the reference there but I got it from the Adobe Spark Post Icon library. I had searched for meditation , and this is one of the 'mudras' in yoga if I'm not mistaken.

Yes! That's one of the things that actually got me into making a minimalist launcher.
Very few minimalist launchers have that ability and the implementation is quite, for lack of a better word, wonky.
I've been working on a couple of different ways to do it. Should be ready in a week, hopefully
