I bought the Moto Xoom from Verizon when it launched and never got around to sending it in for the upgrade. At the time our market was 3g and I was in no hurry but we were upgraded last year to 4g so I was hoping to get it done. How would I go about getting it upgraded to 4G LTE now? Done a quick search and didn't see anything.
Thanks!

Since the xoom has been discontinued for quite some time, i'ts going to be tough. Not really sure where you searched but found these two top results in google. There were many more how to's listed.
You're going to have to do it manually or pay some phone repair shop to do it for you.

It may be more cost-effective to buy a refurbished Xoom. I got one for my girlfriend last year on eBay for about $200; it had supposedly been used as an in-store display model, and it looks and works great.
You can find a very good teardown in ifixit.com. Buy the module on ebay, but i don't think that is a good idea, too much expensive for this old tablet.

hello all, i briefly had a gtablet earlier in last month and liked what i saw before i returned it. I will be getting it again (trolling around for a good non-retail price thought) and can see myself using it when i go out of town. I have a blackberry as my main phone but was looking for a decently priced android phone i can root and slap a wifi tethering app to connect the gtab to the internet with. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you.
forgot to add that, i'm on t-mobile 8)...
You can't wrong with the original Droid 1 and I'm sure they are cheap on ebay
I think your choice of carrier is probably more relevant. I'm really happy with my Droid X, and the Verizon coverage can't be beat, but it'll cost you...
I have a sprint palm pre that has been tweaked with the pre verizon hotspot app that works for me. not too fast but I can hold off on getting an evo until they get cheaper.

YES, just saw this on engadget and ordered myself up a shiny new Skyrocket! It'll be a huge upgrade over my Nexus One. I'd been hoping for the Galaxy Nexus on AT&T, but that'll likely be $250-$300 on contract... too hard to pass up $0.01.
The deal works great for me since I've ported my number to google voice, I can easily add a new line and the new phone number doesn't matter since I just point GV to the new number. My current line is out of contract so I just cancel it when the skyrocket arrives and I should only be out the penny!
yup returning mine under BRE as soon as the amazon one comes in
That's one cent too much for what that phone's worth. Meaning if you can't use LTE why bother. Might as well get the regular S2.
I jumped on the penny deal from amazon to pick up an ATT one.
I didn't opt for the wireless tethering/hotspot hoping that I can root and get the Wireless Tether App running correctly.
*cross fingers*
Ordered mine last night. Can't wait to get my hands on this beast

I guess there's no trick to getting around the requirement that you be a new customer or add a new line?
I've been with AT&T for 10 years and have 3 lines with them. You'd think they'd reward loyalty more.

I need to get aquainted with this google voice. Ive been hearing about it for years now and never took the time to give it any attention, lol.
Anyway, I just ordered one today!!! They moved the shipping up to one day instead of 2 day for free I guess considering Thursday is Thanksgiving.
I'm coming from an iPhone 4 and I'm pretty excited to be coming back to Android (I haven't posted here for a while either, yikes. Good to be back).

This right here ^
Ordered mine yesterday. Will be here today. Only worried I keep hearing that samsung's in house SoC is better and this won't get much in ROM support.
The size, fact that I'll have a LTE phone when it's here & the price sold me though
Samsung's SoC is better but Qualcomm has a better radio. What's more important to you?
The radio, I live in a area that is quick to get network updates so I'm sure LTE will be here sooner than later
Ordered two of these a couple days ago! Bigger screen and faster processor than the standard S II! Just got them an hour ago, at the doc with my wife right now. Tried setting them up but data won't work, gotta take them to a store after the doc. They are fast! I won't miss my inspire haha

The UPS guy just dropped mine off an hour ago and I am already in love with it. The large screen is drop dead beautiful and it's incredibly fluid...despite comments that it's laggy (though, all phones get laggy at some point, I just think most of those came from people that were s2 processor snobs ).
I am coming from an iPhone 4 but I'm already pleased with this beast (still love my iPhone and iOS but that's another story but I've always loved both operating systems -Android/iOS-). Can't wait to fully enjoy it and set it up however I want/need.

Who says that you cannot use LTE? I live in the Bay area which does not have LTE (will be here next year) but I was in Chicago recently that had blazing LTE speeds. Yes, AT&Ts LTE network is thin right now but it would not be so by the end of 2012
Damn Amazon sent the phones late yesterday so me n wifey won't get our new phones until Monday... -_-

That sucks. I didn't order my Skyrocket from Amazon until 3:30pm yesterday and I already got it today around the same time.
So I currently have a Motorola Droid X2... I use cyanogenmod 7.2rc1 beta2 as a custom ROM. Besides that for stable ROMs it's really only eclipse 2.2, liberty, molten or stock 2.3.5 rooted. cm9/miui4 are both in alpha stages of development and have no working camera/data usage yet and mms is shotty as well as other glitches & bugs. having the locked bootloader and all. Plus we don't get official ICS :banghead::thumbdown:
I had a few questions... First off, my 2 year contract with Verizon Wireless USA is over in December however I am eligible for an upgrade in August. I think I remember reading somewhere after all these VZW/MOTO shenanigans you can get a free 3g upgrade, if eligible, but need to renew contract for a 4g device. I'm obviously very confused by these changes and need clarification.. Basically what I'm asking is, would I be able to cop a new phone in August without having to re-up my contract? Use the upgrade for the remaining months and then sell it along with my X2? Not sure how that works and honestly I don't want to call Verizon about it until I'm due for my upgrade.
Moving on to my next problem. I am going to need a new carrier/phone. I figure since sprint still has unlimited data and their service in my area isn't that bad compared to Verizon, I'll probably sign with them. As far as actual devices are concerned, I will only buy a phone with an unlocked bootloader. Since Motorola failed to live up to their promise of unlocking their bootloaders by the end of 2011, and their overall customer support, I am not interested in purchasing any Moto phones.
Which brings me back to Sprint, lol. I know several people who have been on Sprint for a long time and tell me they're okay as long as you don't break your phone. I've heard countless horror stories of friends/family having to jump through countless hoops just to get their defective phone replaced. I've already left AT&T and will never go back to them so my options are pretty limited. I can deal with less than perfect customer support from time to time as long as I have reliable service and a reliable phone I can hack.
I've been looking at the Dinc2, since my friend has one. I know that's unlocked already. I've heard a lot of fuss over its pentile screen, but that honestly doesn't bother me much. So that can be taken into consideration as well.
I appreciate any opinions you can personally offer as to an awesome, unlocked phone, decent carriers as well as new phone releases you are looking forward to. I'd love to hear what unlocked devices you guys have as well as your favorite custom ROMs for them.
Thanks!
Cyanogenmod all day
Well, if you upgrade your phone, you're more than likely going to have to re-up your contract for an additional 2 years. As of right now, for Verizon, I would probably look at the HTC Rezound, or Incredible 4G. If you go to Sprint, I would look at the Evo 4G LTE (HTC One for Sprint), or the Evo Design 4G, but by December, you'll also have the Galaxy S3 to consider. I'm biased towards HTC phones personally, but those are the options I would look at.
I forgot to mention I'm on a family plan with unlimited data...

I can't really suggest a phone but I read that you mentioned people having problems with Sprint with getting phones replaced after they get broke.
My sister is good at messing phones up and with the $8 a month insurance you basically can hardball any phone at a wall and they will replace it for $100. I think the one thing is you just never say that you did anything wrong and most sprint stores don't care. They have gotten much better. Whatever you do don't break your phone without insurance because they wont touch the phone in fear you might swear they broke it. Get the phone insured from day one if you are accident prone. That is about all the advice I can give. They have good phones and have good service (not verizon service but still good.)
Yeah, I treat these phones like royalty. Basically it's just a computer in the palm of my hand... Accidents do happen though and I always protect all devices with insurance.
I was in Sprint once with a friend of mine. Keep in mind he wasn't a smartphone owner, but this wasn't too long ago. He had a flip phone and he wanted it replaced. It was his 4th device experiencing the same hardware problems. When we got in there Sprint did pretty much everything in their power to make sure he did not leave with a brand new replacement. They went as far as to literally take the phone apart - right in front of us - and replace internal hardware. They'd put it back together and he'd show them it still wasn't working and they would try replacing something else.
Two and a half hours later of playing with the display evo and listening to "No I don't want you to fix it I want a new phone" and "Here, maybe this will fix it, let's give it a try..." we were finally out of there. They did not give a replacement that day. Just "fixed" it. Until we got back to his house. The very next day I was there when he called customer support. They gave him the business over the phone and were 0 help. We went back to the sprint store and finally got his replacement. I think the only reason they even actually helped him with a new device is because he was mad enough to break every display case and cell phone in the place - and they knew it. It wasn't like a "here let me help you get this resolved so you can enjoy your phone and service!!" Kinda deal it was more like "get him a new phone from the back so he doesn't make a scene and gets the hell out of my store" thing .... As we were leaving, the female rep not only told us we were lucky we even got a replacement in the first place- she did it in a snobby, attitude riddled tone of voice.
For reference this is when I was thinking of terminating vzw early and jumping to sprint. My friend told me sprint is full of people who either don't give two damns or are just plain stupid. He took me along to give me an idea of what I was in for. Needless to say I didn't switch.....

Hello all,
So I snagged a thunderbolt from a guy locally who only wanted 20.00 bucks for the phone cause he upgraded to a new phone. I don't think this guy know how much this phone still sells for used, thought it was to good to be true but jumped on the offer anyway and bought it for the heck of it even though I already have a droid X2 running off of page plus. The phone is almost in new condition, called Verizon to verify it was clean for activation and it is
So my question ive heard that http://www.beigephone.com/ will flash the phone to work on page plus, has anyone used this and is it a good company to go though? Also would I have to pick up another 4G LTE sim card since he left is old one in the phone?
I would do it myself, I have been rooting and flashing phones for a few years now but not sure if I wanna pony up the 100.00 bucks for CDMA Workshop since this company only charges 49.99 for flashing.
Sorry for any misspells bad day at work and was kind of drunk when I wrote this
Thanks,
Daniel San

I've known of a few people using it on Page Plus. Apparently is the best to go with if you're moving the Tbolt outside of Verizon.
Yes, you'll need to get a SIM and toss his.

I'm jumping from Verizon to T-Mobile next week after our contract expires and my wife thinks the S5 and G3 are too big so she'd like a G2. But - the local T-Mobile store says they don't have any anymore. Where's the best place to get a new G2 that will work on T-Mobile? I need WIFI calling working which I think means that buying an AT&T version is out.
Thanks for any ideas...
Ted
I don't think any physical stores carry them anymore, I had to order mine from the T-mobile website. They should still have them there. Great phone too, love mine.
Just an FYI for anyone reading this: the T-Mobile web site says the G2 is out of stock but it isn't. A friend from work called them and got a G2 for a great price (around $240) so they may still be available even if the website says otherwise.
I just bought mine a week ago. They only had black, but that was cool with me
