Bricked Hardware issue? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Today I booted up my tf101 and the screen stayed black then flickered blue lines across the top. I tried hard reset, no dice, tried to boot into twrp (I was running katkiss 4.4 fine for weeks), and the screen flickered blurry images, nothing. Tried to push stock software with easy flasher, looks like it works, but same issue when I turn the tablet back on. Weird thing is my pc still sees my tablet and ext sd files. Anyone have any ideas? My son is not a happy camper at the moment.

Is there a chance it has been knocked or dropped ?
The display cable has a habit of coming lose pretty easily if they receive a bump but are fairly simple to fix if you don't mind opening it
Have a look at the links in this thread to check that cable

Good luck!
I think I just used a normal pozzy screwdriver with mine, get one the right size with a little extra pressure and they turn ok - its only the first 2 screws near the charging port that are Torx, the rest inside are all tiny phillips

Dropped phone in liquid

So I dropped my phone in a bowl of soup... Yes lmao! But anyways my back cover save it big time, only the top half of my phone when in, I pulled the battery off, sim card and sd card, wipe it and I checked it and both water marks are still white then I put it in a bag with rice. 24 hrs later I put the battery in, it turned on and everything works, except it was showing the headphones icon, I clean out the headphone hole again, turn it off, turn it back on and it was gone, I unroot it just incase it started to act up I could swap it out.( i have insurace) It's been a full day and no issues
OK so my question is should I root it again now or wait to see if something stops working? I think by now something should of been affected already but what do you think?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
if you have insurance and won't cost you anything to replace the phone, then use it.
Other than that, rooting or unrooting won't matter on a phone that's been dropped in water.

Sorry I guess I didn't make my question clear, what i was really asking was that my phone is working right now, but does my phone run a high risk of something going bad in the next few days or I'm just lucky and nothing broke?
Might be a dumb question but I never had any phone dropped in liquid so I'm not aware if the phone stops working right away or it takes a few days for it to go bad
Don't want to root and then something stops working and I won't be able to flash stock.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I would try to root it, after all it's dry now and everything functions.
Thanks, I wasn't sure if it takes a while for the phone to malfunction or not lol.

My experience has been if it turns on the next day its all good for many more bowls of soup lol. Or washer and dryer like my olllld bb
Making bad decision's one at a time.
Lmao, I hope it don't happen again lol, but yea everything working good, I haven't tried hdmi output, don't have a cable and I never used it lol, so I'll keep this phone. (rooted of course lol) till some thing else goes wrong, then ill swap it out, thanks for the replies

[Q] Phone Dead after Unlocking Bootloader

Using the program here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835791
I tried to unlock my bootloader. Everything seemed to go fine until the program said the phone was rebooting.
The display went dark as if rebooting but never came back on. Since that moment I can't get the phone to power up at all. I can't get into recovery or download mode. The screen doesn't seem to even try to come on. The phone acts as if it has no battery installed even though the battery is there.
Anyone have any suggestions or do I have a legit brick?

Could be a major detail that some might overlook. That'd for sure do it. I got rid of my OG few weeks ago n I'm still stock so I wouldn't know this, but doesn't the process only take like 10 seconds if that? The actual flashing that's taking place. So it'd have to be quite the odds to lose juice in the middle of flashing. But wouldn't it be charging if its plugged in usb? I hope that my man who posted this gets it powered back up. Would be a major bummer otherwise.

Yes I have tried it without the battery. Right now I'm letting it sit without any battery or power to it to allow all components to discharge. I'll try it again in a couple of minutes.
I'm beginning to think I've got a real live or rather dead brick.

Just to make sure you read and followed all steps right? This one seemed crucial
**** IF YOU HAVE ANY PROGRAMS THAT SYNC WITH YOUR PHONE THEY NEED TO BE UNINSTALLED OR NOT RUNNING BECAUSE THEY CAN CAUSE BRICKS, Pdanet, easytether, droid explorer, kies, etc., etc., on down the line. I repeat if you have a program on your computer that syncs with your phone, it is NOT COOL TO HAVE THAT RUNNING! ****
Just trying to narrow down what the hell could cause the device not to power back up, also how long did you leave the device plugged before disconnecting or pulling the battery. Did oden stop responding or say anything other then rebooting ?

Or instead of paying shipping plus not having a phone for a week or so, you could file an insurance claim... Haha. Last I checked Asurion was still giving new phones due to lack of refurbs.
I had to run out quickly earlier to get a new sim for my Thunderbolt so I can have a phone to use in the meantime. The sim I had for it didn't work.
Some good suggestions. Thanks everyone. I'll have to ponder my options few as they are.

Yeah but when Vzw gets it back do they then discover it was rooted and then charge me for breaking warranty? I've always wondered how much they could tell in a situation like this.

They don't have to get it. Say you dropped it off a boat and you couldn't save it. They don't need it for insurance.

I had this happen on an HTC phone one-time. No joke, but to fix it, I think it ended up holding down power + volume down or up and then put the battery in. I tried a bunch of combinations like that until it booted. Same thing when taking the battery out. Does the red light show when the phone is plugged in?

was going to try nvflash but my computer won't pick it up. and no, its not the computer or cable as its the same ones i've used 6 times before and they all found the phone fine!
also don't think its the charging port as it charges while off.
what are my others choices to revive it?
buuuuuuuump
This might sound stupid, but after reading your post it just came to me. It's probably completely unrelated, but have you tried a different battery?
Maybe try the freezer trick? I think nvflash is the best way to revive but if it's not talking then...well...
When you plug it in using the 3 button combo does anything show up on your device manager?

Since its used try using compressed air and a tooth brush to clean the USB port. Some people have tried that on other phones when it seems like PC and cable are ruled out due to dirt causing a bad connection.
Or try
Remove battery
USB cable removed
Hold volume +/- *No power button* keep them pressed
Plug USB cable *s/w upgrade should show up*
If you get there NV flasher should work as per instructions on it.

yeah if i can just get the computer to see it im gravy!
i'll give the compressed air a whirl later today along with a cleaning of the usb. just weird that it picks up the usb while charging on a wall outlet
the only other thing i can think of that could be wrong is that one of the power buttons doesn't work. ergo the vol up/down wouldn't work.

Mine wouldnt see it either it turn out to be alot of build up of dirt and cloth inside the charge port due to keeping it in my pocket all the time.. I cleaned it all out with a sewing needle.. the other thing that would happen was the charger would pop out easily if touched... worth a try. After cleaning it my computer picked up the phone immediately.

Repaired Nexus 5

Hi! Yesterday I took my Nexus 5 on a trip on top of my car and he decided to take a jump to see what will happen... Anyway, after really exciting jump and after I've found him, he was pretty much destroyed, but still working. So, I ordered new display with side bezels and repaired him today. At first everything seemed to be working, but now WiFi and Bluetooth won't turn on. I've took the back panel off to make sure everything is OK, and then I could turn Bluetooth on. After putting everything together again, it won't turn on. And I saw that for some short period of time, just after I assembled the phone, it had WiFi. :-/
So, now I'm confused.
Is it possible to have software issue, or could it still be hardware?
How can I, anyway, check if everything works with hardware?
Btw. I'm still on stock unrooted ROM. (Wanted to see how it is to have a stable ROM after couple of years )

i'm 99 percent sure it's hardware. software is flashed into chips so that cannot be the issue. it's hard to find out yourself wich part is broken. the best thing you can do is send it to your seller or a near phone shop.
Did the screen flicker what so ever? This happen to me because the screen was not original and I end up sending it back to the seller. Where did you get your screen from? You might have broke something when assemble.

wow! That's what I would call a well shattered screen.
I would suggest you to take it apart again if that's not too hard to do, blow the logic board in case some particles are rolling on it and reassemble it. It could do the trick eventually. Re-flashing stock Rom shouldn't be ignored. At least on a PC, a driver can get corrupted when a laptop falls.

I ordered my screen from vodafone repair service in Nürnberg, Germany and it came the day after. (It costs 140€, and if you want the repair too, then it's 199€. Not very happy about the price...) My replace screen is original from LG and works perfectly. I have to say- maybe even better than the old one. No flickering whatsoever. Backlight is also a bit better because it is equally divided over the screen. Plus, the bezels had new buttons on it, and now has smaller holes on the bottom and power button doesn't rattle any more. From the outside, only the back cover now has two small scratches. everything else is great.
I'm pretty much sure that something didn't connected correctly because sometimes bluetooth works. Tomorrow I'll disassemble it again and see.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Maybe its better to send it to lg for repairs? That's what I'm planning to do. I bought my replacement screen for 150 and it was just hell because so many issues. That's the same price for a repair by lg. Im going to sent it to lg soon but not yet because I been to lazy lol.

The service wanted to charge me almost 60€ more for their work, plus they said that they would most probably reflash the ROM and I would lose all my data...
And I only wanted to save my data. So, for me, this is the best solution.

Sounds like the antennas are not contacting properly. Seems it can happen to anyone upon removing the backplate.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I've just disassembled it and reassembled again. Everything looks good. All connections are good and nothing seems to be loose.
I even tried to press the back panel around the camera lens to make a better contact with the antenna, but still nothing.
Looks like this in the WiFi settings...
So, actually, I think it's a software problem and am going to root it now and flash the new ROM.
After that we'll see.
