Hi! Yesterday I took my Nexus 5 on a trip on top of my car and he decided to take a jump to see what will happen... Anyway, after really exciting jump and after I've found him, he was pretty much destroyed, but still working. So, I ordered new display with side bezels and repaired him today. At first everything seemed to be working, but now WiFi and Bluetooth won't turn on. I've took the back panel off to make sure everything is OK, and then I could turn Bluetooth on. After putting everything together again, it won't turn on. And I saw that for some short period of time, just after I assembled the phone, it had WiFi. :-/
So, now I'm confused.
Is it possible to have software issue, or could it still be hardware?
How can I, anyway, check if everything works with hardware?
Btw. I'm still on stock unrooted ROM. (Wanted to see how it is to have a stable ROM after couple of years )

i'm 99 percent sure it's hardware. software is flashed into chips so that cannot be the issue. it's hard to find out yourself wich part is broken. the best thing you can do is send it to your seller or a near phone shop.
Did the screen flicker what so ever? This happen to me because the screen was not original and I end up sending it back to the seller. Where did you get your screen from? You might have broke something when assemble.

wow! That's what I would call a well shattered screen.
I would suggest you to take it apart again if that's not too hard to do, blow the logic board in case some particles are rolling on it and reassemble it. It could do the trick eventually. Re-flashing stock Rom shouldn't be ignored. At least on a PC, a driver can get corrupted when a laptop falls.

Maybe some of the connections are not connected well.

I ordered my screen from vodafone repair service in Nürnberg, Germany and it came the day after. (It costs 140€, and if you want the repair too, then it's 199€. Not very happy about the price...) My replace screen is original from LG and works perfectly. I have to say- maybe even better than the old one. No flickering whatsoever. Backlight is also a bit better because it is equally divided over the screen. Plus, the bezels had new buttons on it, and now has smaller holes on the bottom and power button doesn't rattle any more. From the outside, only the back cover now has two small scratches. everything else is great.
I'm pretty much sure that something didn't connected correctly because sometimes bluetooth works. Tomorrow I'll disassemble it again and see.

Maybe its better to send it to lg for repairs? That's what I'm planning to do. I bought my replacement screen for 150 and it was just hell because so many issues. That's the same price for a repair by lg. Im going to sent it to lg soon but not yet because I been to lazy lol.

The service wanted to charge me almost 60€ more for their work, plus they said that they would most probably reflash the ROM and I would lose all my data...
And I only wanted to save my data. So, for me, this is the best solution.

Sounds like the antennas are not contacting properly. Seems it can happen to anyone upon removing the backplate.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I've just disassembled it and reassembled again. Everything looks good. All connections are good and nothing seems to be loose.
I even tried to press the back panel around the camera lens to make a better contact with the antenna, but still nothing.
Looks like this in the WiFi settings...
So, actually, I think it's a software problem and am going to root it now and flash the new ROM.
After that we'll see.
If there isn't any success after that, you all know where to find spare parts for your Nexus 5.

I just finished reflashing the stock ROM and it seems like it wasn't a software issue... after selecting the language it says "Turning Wi-Fi on..." and it doesn't do anything...
More suggestions?

Whenever I turn on my screen, I see lines or a fuzzy gray box flashing across my screen. They go away in less than a second, but I am afraid that my screen is broken. This also happened on my first charge, so I was wondering if the cause could be my battery which I bought on ebay (samsung 1500mah). Also, my new phone almost never connects to 4g even though my old one got full bars.
Please help, I googled my problem and came up with nothing. I still have my first phone, could I send back the same phone they sent me in the box?
Thank you.
What you see on your screen is apparently common for other charge owners myself included. Saw it mentioned as screen "static"in a thread on here somewhere which it can look like sometimes. I don't think it's been associated with any screen issues so I wouldn't trip on it too hard over it. I'll take that quirky behavior with the screen quality!

Hello,
my Backbutton activates itself. While I am watching Videos, or whatever I do it stops shining and I am out of every application I'm using. After about half a minute it's shining again and I can use it normally. It's like pushing the button multiple times. Does anyone has an idea how to fix it? I tried different roms but it looks like an hardware failure to me.

Sending it back for support is not an option for me. I imported my device from the US to Germany. The support at Samsung Germany told me that they are not responsible for AMOLED devices.
My second problem ist that my IMEI is crashed since I flashed a rom where the dev made a little mistake. So Samsung won't give me any support.
I thought about changing the display but the price for a new one is about 190 Euro. Way too much... I can assemble and disassemble the device but I think that cleaning the device will not solve the problem.
Any suggestions?

It has nothing to do with the display though.
That's likely the part failing:

http://stellatech.com/samsung-gt-i9020-nexus-s-ui-flex,a,en,810423.html
Verify that the one you currently have isn't simply not connected right.
Thank you. I will have a look if the part is not right connected.
Maybe I have to replace it. But in that case 25 Euro are much cheaper than 190.

This happened to me once. A day later my display completely died. I could turn on my phone, answer calls, etc the touchscreen worked, but I couldnt see anything. I had to get a new one..
I had this problem too.
I flashed a different radio, and boom!! issue resolved
I occasionally get this too. It only comes up when I'm using cm/cm based kernels though, very odd. I'm on matrix right now and it seems to Beowulf, anybody have some tips or suggestions?

I tried a different kernel and it looks like the problem is solved. I know that you should not count your chickens before they are hatched. But I really think that the kernel was the problem.
Anyway, I am just happy that my phone is working properly.

I don't see how the kernel would have anything to do with the backbutton. Although if it worked out then hey that's awesome. Amazing how much I have learned by reading the forums on this site.:victory:
Just clean off the the backbutton, and maybe it will stop or you have a software bug.
Hi friends pretty much looking for advice. I dropped my HTC one s and the screen had colors leaking everywhere. I had a case on and screen protector. Anyway T-Mobile sent me a replacement in the mail. I went to the store the representative activated my new SIM card. Turned the phone on and started having signal issues. The signal randomly drops and stays off both cell signal and data. It takes a long time for it to start back up. I turn on airplane mode and when I do this temporary the signal comes back then airplane displays and cuts it off. Then I turn off airplane and the signal comes back. Have to keep doing these steps. I installed a custom ROM flashed a different radio and still the same issues. So does this maybe sound like a hardware issue ? I'm going to give T-Mobile a call tomorrow would really suck having to send this phone in and wait for another but that's looking like what I'm going to have to do.

Try removing the bottom cover, making sure the antenna contact is clean and maybe bending the prongs up a little bit. Worked for some folks.

Yup...do some searching. Might want to invest in a pry tool. There's a guy around here who just replaced his whole body due to scratches and I'm fairly sure you need to remove the bottom cover to access the screws.

You know T-Mobile sevice really pisses me off sometimes... I called they told me they're going to send another phone to see which ever works better.. going to take another week and a half to come while I'm stuck with this phone. I'm pretty upset. So I'll flash back the T-Mobile ROM and send it back. Do you think I'll have issues since they're going to see the boot loader relocked

This worked for me the first time I used my new phone 3 months ago. I couldn't find any wlan signal (i was near the router) too! I carefully pushed the prongs up and it worked
So I got the bottom open. The first time I adjusted the prongs I got a much more consistant connection but really really slow speeds. I'll post a picture. Then I went in a second time I adjusted the prong more but s small gold piece from under looks like it broke off. I still get signal I'll report back on speed.

T-Mobile is sending another phone out for me this one def has some sort of hardware issue. Thank you guys so much for the tips at least now I have a pretty decent connection and at least consistant. I really hope though that It's okay with me sending them a relocked bootloader.

I haven't seen anything else posted, but I wanted to see is anyone is having the same issue as I am.
Basically, I'm getting what I think are row's of pixels flickering in the area of the screen that are gray.
Here is a quick vid trying to capture it. I can't post videos because I have less than 10 post, you are going to have to trust me for now...
I've also used the dead pixel finder app...everything looks good until I change over to a gray screen, if I stare at it, I can see the flicker...
I first noticed it when I flash Franco r10 (which is what I was on in the video). When I flash back to stock kernel or Bricked, it's much better. But now that I know it is there, I can still see it.
Anyone else having this issue? is there a fix or should I just send it back?
If it matters... LG-D820 White, 32gb
I'm guessing I'm alone with this issue and that it is a hardware problem.

I haven't noticed anything on mine, but I haven't flashed anything yet. Did you notice the flicker before you flashed the first time?
No I didn't notice anything until I flashed r10. But now that I'm looking for it, I can see it on stock and bricked ever so slightly.
I could live with it on the stock colors, but if this is hardware, I worry that it is going to get worse and not better over time.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I have the same issue and saw it as soon as I flashed franco kernel. Noticed that if you set brightness to 100% it will slowly stabilize but will still come back when lowing brightness. I called for an RMA, but cannot reproduce it as obviously on stock, so i'm also lost as to what it could be.
What did you end up doing?
On mine, I could see it on Stock colors, just not as bad... I returned mine on rma....
I recommend getting the app called display tester.
I don't have enough post for a proper link.
https:// play.google.com /store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev. displaytester
Look for a bad pixel and go under the banding section for reason for rma.
My new phone didn't have any of the flicker /banding that my old phone did.
Good luck..

Sorry to bring back an old thread but I just noticed this not too long ago and didn't want to open a new thread. I noticed it while I was on stock first and thought flashing something might fix it. I've had mine since the beginning of November. Is the best option just to RMA it?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
can you use a SlimPort cable or chromecast to mirror the screen to a TV and see if the flicker still happens?
So you'll know if the problem is in GPU or screen?!
I have just received a refurbished nexus 5 and i noticed a rather distracting blemish on the screen under the glass (on the status bar to the left of the wifi icon), it's not a solid colour so i don't think it's dead pixels, it's more of a shadow and it's barely visible when the phone is in landscape but flip the phone portrait and there it is.
I have never seen anything like it before so it would be interesting to find out what it is and if i can fix it easily myself.
Sent it back and get another
