Signal drops after getting warranty phone. - HTC One S

Hi friends pretty much looking for advice. I dropped my HTC one s and the screen had colors leaking everywhere. I had a case on and screen protector. Anyway T-Mobile sent me a replacement in the mail. I went to the store the representative activated my new SIM card. Turned the phone on and started having signal issues. The signal randomly drops and stays off both cell signal and data. It takes a long time for it to start back up. I turn on airplane mode and when I do this temporary the signal comes back then airplane displays and cuts it off. Then I turn off airplane and the signal comes back. Have to keep doing these steps. I installed a custom ROM flashed a different radio and still the same issues. So does this maybe sound like a hardware issue ? I'm going to give T-Mobile a call tomorrow would really suck having to send this phone in and wait for another but that's looking like what I'm going to have to do.

Try removing the bottom cover, making sure the antenna contact is clean and maybe bending the prongs up a little bit. Worked for some folks.

Yup...do some searching. Might want to invest in a pry tool. There's a guy around here who just replaced his whole body due to scratches and I'm fairly sure you need to remove the bottom cover to access the screws.
EDIT: PM this guy and maybe he can point you to a guide

You know T-Mobile sevice really pisses me off sometimes... I called they told me they're going to send another phone to see which ever works better.. going to take another week and a half to come while I'm stuck with this phone. I'm pretty upset. So I'll flash back the T-Mobile ROM and send it back. Do you think I'll have issues since they're going to see the boot loader relocked

This worked for me the first time I used my new phone 3 months ago. I couldn't find any wlan signal (i was near the router) too! I carefully pushed the prongs up and it worked

So I got the bottom open. The first time I adjusted the prongs I got a much more consistant connection but really really slow speeds. I'll post a picture. Then I went in a second time I adjusted the prong more but s small gold piece from under looks like it broke off. I still get signal I'll report back on speed.

The speed has improved its a lot.though it doesn't look like I'm getting hspa+ speeds. My connection dropped once since the last time I popped it open. T-Mobile is sending another phone out for me this one def has some sort of hardware issue. Thank you guys so much for the tips at least now I have a pretty decent connection and at least consistant. I really hope though that It's okay with me sending them a relocked bootloader.

Bottom corner of screen presses down...

I was wondering if anyone of you have experienced this issue. If I press down on the screen right under the search icon in the lower right corner, the glass ever so slightly, very softly presses down. Almost as if the glue is soft or there is nothing hard there. Also I get the screen discoloration that happens when you do that to an lcd screen.
I have read online that others have this issue and even the demo units at the att stores do it as well. Keep in mind that there is no light bleeding through and the glass is not raised just presses down.
What do you all think?

I noticed this on my aria. Its how I got it upgraded to the inspire. These screens are attached with a thin layer of double sided adhesive. Think of it as ultra thin 3m tape. I think it might actually keep the screen from breaking under light stress. I would keep an eye on it and if it gets worse maybe call HTC for repair.
Never had any issue with the digitizer because of it tho.

Thanks for the reply. Not sure how it makes me feel though. I don't think I'll return it just yet.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Mine does the same in the bottom. I've also noticed not all 4 corners are equally flush with the black ring that goes around the screen. O well, small thing really. Phone is so amazing.
Yeah I love this phone. I swapped it out and now everything is good. The only thing though is that out of the 3 they pulled out, 2 had dirt under the screen. That tells me we might need to figure something to fortify the screen better.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
That bugs the hell out of me! I wish i would have saw that before my return period expired
Your phone has a 1 year warranty tho. So if it gets worse you can at least have it repaired. I would really suggest getting it fixed because that creates a paper trail.

mine does this too. I guess I'm heading to the AT&T store.
Did you have any issue swapping it out ? I'm 2 days past my 30

I tried to swap mine out within my 30 day period, and the sales guy told me he couldn't give me a new inspire (because the demo model and his personal one had the same issue) but would let me get an atrix. I still have my inspire, funky screen and all!
Mine does the same thing. I wonder if all of them do it? did the one you swapped for do it too?
Also when I went in and talked to the radio shack guy he told me that if I put something heavy on it overnight it would reattach to the double stick tape if I didnt want to return it. Also can your return a phone with this issue rooted and s-off? or do you need to go through the process of returning to stock?
I would take it back stock. It seems to be an issue that doesn't affect the phone. Only thing that sucks is returning it to find out the replacement is worst or better yet, get one with dust under the screen. Also it seems to be at the corner of the screen where you normally wouldn't press on the screen.

Mine new one is better
I had no problem trading mine in at all. My new one is much better. Well, actually it has no problems at all. My screen was making an audible clicking when I pressed it down. I just don't touch that section of the screen at all cause I am afraid to hear it again.
My screen is okay. I guess this problem is there for most devices with LCD touch screens. To make it slim/light/cheap the screen rests on a really thin platform I feel.
On a off topic : -This happened with my iPod. I went to the "genius" bar and that guy brought 10 different iPods out and showed me by pressing the bottom right part of the screen that this is "common" .... I had no better argument then.

Had phone for one week, no longer recognizing fast swipes.

For the first week, I could do a fast swipe across my home screen to get it spinning. Worked 100% of the time. As of yesterday, it literally no longer recognizes these swipes. It won't move at all, or sometimes it will think I clicked on an app instead of swiping.
Same thing applies to the lock screen. I have to slowly bring up the ring to unlock. Extremely irritating.
What saddens me is this happened on my first phone as well after about a week (exchanged that phone because of dust). Looks like it wasn't just that phone.

Seems like a grounding issue, but we don't exactly know what's causing the problem. It works sometimes, doesn't work others.
This really sucks. Just the other day I could get it to spin with one swipe. It's impossible to do with any amount of swipes now.
I have to double swipe to get it to work. I have to kill all the running processes in the quick settings first.
What's the point of the carousel super spin? Mine doesn't do it unless I hit it just right, but in my eyes its a total novelty.

Agree, not just useless but a waste of time if you trigger it accidentally. Sense REALLY needs a "performance" setting that disables all the animation crap, like Windows has. That sliding home screen after unlocking is also really silly. I want snap, not spins and gradual fades. If they want to make everyone happy they need to maximize customization.

Yes we all agree that the effect itself is not important. But it shows the responsiveness of the touchscreen. If you cant get it to spin, your phone feels like ass when you swipe things.Well hell not just swiping, anything touch related. I removed my sim card, battery and SD card to take it back and exchange it and all of a sudden it started working great. Has been flawless for the past few days, real happy! until today.. I left it on the roof of my car and it hit the road at about 55 and got ran over multiple times. I couldn't find it when i went back to try and save my sim for the trusty N1 but my Bluetooth earpiece came on when in the vicinity and i actually got a phone call when i was waiting to cross the road to pick up the carcass. Had to use the BT though unlocking on the screen would slice your fingers open. So now i'm back to a non responsive touchscreen! DAMMIT! I finished it off prying it open to get the sim, battery and SD card out. Asurion replacement to be here Friday.
I had the same problem after three weeks of the touch screen working perfectly. I followed the instructions in the touch screen issues thread and it fixed it!. I didn't even wait an hour like it said. Turn off your phone, take the battery out, put the back cover back on, hold the pet button for like 15 seconds then Open it up and put the battery back in and turn it on. Worked for me!

That process didn't work at all for me. Left the battery out for just over an hour. All screen issues of being unresponsive are still there. No fast scrolling and lockscreen issue getting quite bad. Can't get carousel at all anymore. And it takes about 5 tries to unlock lockscreen.

It's because it's a case full stop - things always get loose after a while. Not a lot you can do about it tbh. Doesn't bother me

take the back cover and sqeeze it in a little on both sides top and bottom not to hard though
That's what happen when you open and close the back cover too much. The back cover is made for one purpose only. To insert your sim card, SD card and battery. Once its insert, it should stay insert and no need to access the back cover anymore, unless if really required such as your phone hang which need to take out the battery. Others than that, you should not open the back cover. If you continue too much open and close the cover, of cause eventually, wear and tear will happen!! >.<

Just call HTC and tell them the problem they will send u a replacement back cover for free but u need to return the defective one or else they will charge u for the cost of the back cover. It also happen to my phone and I did call them and they sent me a replacement back cover now I don't have that creaking noise or whatsoever. I've been using it for a month now. Try calling and take advantage of ur warranty instead of doing a quick fix that someday the problem will come back.

From what I've heard:

-Some cases can prevent this from happening.
-A Larger battery can help this from happening.

[FIX] Random reboots/shutdowns. Pictures added!

So since this issue has been giving me quite a bit of frustration, I have devised a very simple fix that should work for at least a few other people. There was a post in the ARHD thread where it suggested cleaning the connectors and the battery. I was pulling out my battery to give this a try when I realized the battery could be pushed slightly farther down into the housing, allowing for a more solid connection.
What I did was wedge a small piece of business card between the top of the battery housing and the battery itself. This has worked very well for me so far. If anyone else would like to try this and either confirm or deny that it is working for them that would be great.
As requested, pictures have been attached. One shows the items you need, another shows where I placed it against the battery and the other shows it sitting flush in the battery housing. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I found pulling the ground pin out a bit helps, the one that makes contact with the battery cover and can cause touchscreen issues.
I thought the random reboots/shutdowns were a software problem. Because after I flashed this a fix a found the issue stopped. Kinda...

I've tried a lot of the fixed, including underclocking to 1ghz and varying ghz between 1 and 1.5. But this has worked for me, figures I would share. But a lot of phones are different...so what works for me might not work for others. Just thought I would share what worked for me! Plus I think its worth a shot, don't see how it could hurt anything. But this is xda, so at your own risk and all that other stuff.

Repaired Nexus 5

Hi! Yesterday I took my Nexus 5 on a trip on top of my car and he decided to take a jump to see what will happen... Anyway, after really exciting jump and after I've found him, he was pretty much destroyed, but still working. So, I ordered new display with side bezels and repaired him today. At first everything seemed to be working, but now WiFi and Bluetooth won't turn on. I've took the back panel off to make sure everything is OK, and then I could turn Bluetooth on. After putting everything together again, it won't turn on. And I saw that for some short period of time, just after I assembled the phone, it had WiFi. :-/
So, now I'm confused.
Is it possible to have software issue, or could it still be hardware?
How can I, anyway, check if everything works with hardware?
Btw. I'm still on stock unrooted ROM. (Wanted to see how it is to have a stable ROM after couple of years )

How can I, anyway, check if everything works with hardware?

i'm 99 percent sure it's hardware. software is flashed into chips so that cannot be the issue. it's hard to find out yourself wich part is broken. the best thing you can do is send it to your seller or a near phone shop.
Did the screen flicker what so ever? This happen to me because the screen was not original and I end up sending it back to the seller. Where did you get your screen from? You might have broke something when assemble.

wow! That's what I would call a well shattered screen.
I would suggest you to take it apart again if that's not too hard to do, blow the logic board in case some particles are rolling on it and reassemble it. It could do the trick eventually. Re-flashing stock Rom shouldn't be ignored. At least on a PC, a driver can get corrupted when a laptop falls.

I was thinking that too, but why it worked for some time then...
Maybe some of the connections are not connected well.
I'll try to see it one more time tomorrow...

I ordered my screen from vodafone repair service in Nürnberg, Germany and it came the day after. (It costs 140€, and if you want the repair too, then it's 199€. Not very happy about the price...) My replace screen is original from LG and works perfectly. I have to say- maybe even better than the old one. No flickering whatsoever. Backlight is also a bit better because it is equally divided over the screen. Plus, the bezels had new buttons on it, and now has smaller holes on the bottom and power button doesn't rattle any more. From the outside, only the back cover now has two small scratches. everything else is great.
I'm pretty much sure that something didn't connected correctly because sometimes bluetooth works. Tomorrow I'll disassemble it again and see.

Maybe its better to send it to lg for repairs? That's what I'm planning to do. I bought my replacement screen for 150 and it was just hell because so many issues. That's the same price for a repair by lg. Im going to sent it to lg soon but not yet because I been to lazy lol.

The service wanted to charge me almost 60€ more for their work, plus they said that they would most probably reflash the ROM and I would lose all my data...
And I only wanted to save my data. So, for me, this is the best solution.

Sounds like the antennas are not contacting properly. Seems it can happen to anyone upon removing the backplate.

I've just disassembled it and reassembled again. Everything looks good. All connections are good and nothing seems to be loose.
I even tried to press the back panel around the camera lens to make a better contact with the antenna, but still nothing.
Looks like this in the WiFi settings...
So, actually, I think it's a software problem and am going to root it now and flash the new ROM.
After that we'll see.
If there isn't any success after that, you all know where to find spare parts for your Nexus 5.

I just finished reflashing the stock ROM and it seems like it wasn't a software issue... after selecting the language it says "Turning Wi-Fi on..." and it doesn't do anything...
More suggestions?
