Why we should use custom ROM for Moto G ? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Moto G is already on latest kit kat with hardly any bloatware and you can root, install custom recovery and can also use gravity box for extra customization/modification which custom ROMs offer so my question is
Why we still need custom ROMS for moto G? Is it just habit of people to try different ROMS(flasholic) or we actually need them?

Personally, stock rom root, and Xposed framework + modules is enough for me, for now
Sent from my XT1032 using xda app-developers app

Not to mention the fact that, once you root, you can remove the bloatware. I removed Migrate and Assist with no issue at all.

Show me an xposed mod that has full multi window support and theme support as strong as CM and omnirom
Protip: there is none

Yes similar to the note. It's a feature of Omnirom, but is found on other Roms too. We don't have an omnirom port right now, but if you want to try out multiwindow this ROM also has it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2620709

interesting..no i was curious i dont think i will use multi wndow on such small screen of moto g as i already own note 2 but never used multiwindow or spen
but i see that these ROMS have plenty of other bugs so you get one thing at the cost of others. I have noticed a strange trend on xda. Those devices who dont need much development for example nexus and those who are close to AOSP get more support of developers while those devices who need development like lg g2 get hardly any attention

That's because the nexus devices are really open and easy to develop with, this attracts developers. The LG G2 is more locked down and it discourages developers from even trying.
I wouldn't worry though, the moto g is just as open as nexus devices and I predict it will get a lot of development in the near future, as well as official cyanogenmod support.

I was going to say the same thing, I think for cm 11 we need a retainer and such
sent from the kitty kat Atrix HD Maxx

I have no desire to modify my G at this time, or in the near future. It runs perfectly and does everything I want. If down the road it becomes "stale" from lack of update support, then I'll consider it.

Only xposed for me. I had always the feeling that odexed is faster than deodexed anyway.
The guys from ex-themer said this device will be supported with the next major release so then you will have your themes

Official custom roms (CM, PA, Carbon) for Moto G?

When will be the first official custom roms available for Moto G? Cyanogen Mod, Paranoid Android, Carbon Rom, Slim Kat?
Sent from my XT1032 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Its already near pure android and xposed can give you all the options and features those roms give....so demand/need for custom roms is low. (Until updates are no longer made for the g anyway)
Sent from my Moto X cellular telephone...
Then the Nexus devices should have the lowest demand of those ROMs... oh wait.

They don't get their warranties voided when you play with them. More than likely another factor with Motorola's. (aside from dev editions)
Sent from my Moto X cellular telephone...
We can forget about an official ParanoidAndroid. They only build officially for Nexus and Oppo. For CM, we would need a maintainer, and for other custom ROMs, we can only hope for their respective devs to give attention to the Moto G.

The same goes for Xposed framework. To use it, you need root, to root the phone, you need to unlock the bootloader.
Oh....we lose our Motorola features too. Many wouldn't like that.

Haven't you learned yet that asking for ETAs is verboten?
They will be available when they're ready. CM11 is in the process of getting merged in I believe, I'm working on Omni (having some issues with modem initialization currently that causes the device to continually reboot, will be looking in more detail tonight.)
Omni nightlies may never happen until the device can get a dedicated maintainer with more time than I have.

[Q] Android 4.3 JB for Nexus 5 request

Maybe the stangest request in xda´s time
As I need an app only compatible with 4.3 and nothing newer to run on my rooted Nexus 5, I desperately need JB for my Nexus. Does this exist or do I need a tech friend (or someone in here to bake a rom for me. Is this even possible?
Kind regards
Some q&a
Q) Is it technically possible?
A) Pretty much anything is technically possible
Q) On a scale of 1-100, how difficult is it?
A) 99.9999
Q) Will anyone ever release JB for N5?
A) Nope
Q) Not even if I ask nicely?
A) Nope
Q) Why not? Why is it so difficult?
A) The N5 was not released with JB. There is no JB Source code compatible with the N5. There are no devices with the same hardware as the N5 on JB. All the drivers and kernel would need to be backported. This is an extremely difficult, if not impossible task. No one will do this.

LG G2 was released with JB (4.2.2), and that basically is the N5. Not saying that makes things a lot easier.

It doesn't because it doesn't have the same hardware. A few similarities, but not really.

The apps name is CSC Scandihealth HH3 version 8.8.11.7 (works only with Jellybean at this moment)
Looks like something to do with health insurance. Can you just use the mobile site? Or does the app do something special?

Sounds like you need to get on the app developers ass to update his useless JB only drivel
Maybe a stupid question, but have you tried sideloading the app? The reason I ask is because while it may not officially support KK, you may still be able to sideload it. T-Mobile VV for example didn't officially support KK until a few weeks ago (and consequently couldn't be installed through GP), but many people, myself included were still able to sideload it and it worked just fine. If you can't sideload it you'd have better luck pressing the app creator to update his app. No developer is ever going to port an outdated version of Android.

5.0 Lollipop

Any Developers or people who's working or done with the lollipop 5.0 rom for infuse? I just want to experience the new material design.
They have said once beanstalk is ported they'd give it a go.

I'm working on it, could be interesting if we can use this kernel on our device
https://github.com/hak86/android_kernel_samsung_aries
since infuse has 2.6 kernel and required a lot of changes to make lollipop
I am unsure about specs but you might visit the Samsung Galaxy player 4.0 and 5.0 forums, they are at least same gen devices and I saw lollipop is built on it.

Any progess?
Is there any progress on Lollipop for the Infuse? Still using mine. Thanks.
Lollipop is a ram eater. I tried it on the razrm and it didn't go well. Wound up reverting to kitkat. I'm sorry but at some point even if you can, you shouldn't and I think all devs are realizing this.

I think people should just run the latest that's available, or get a new phone. A Moto E is 3 times the phone the Infuse is, and can be had for $30 if you buy it at the right time. Plus it runs Lollipop out of the box. Methinks trying to run 5.0 on a 4 yr old device is near impossible.

Hell i haven't seriously used my Infuse in over 2 years, i just like to see just how much it can handle, I was a bit surprised when it took KK. Now just waiting to see if it can handle Lollipop.

US last country to get updates

Nexus 6P stock ROM on Mate 8?

Hi I was wondering if it's possible to get a stock ROM of Nexus 6P working on the Mate 8? Or a slightly modified version of the stock 6P?
um....no
two completely different devices with completely different hardware. ull basically need to rewrite the whole rom in order to port it, not exactly an easy untertaking...

I think it dont work like that, we have to be ourself involved to cm devellopement to make it possible.
So our only chance is to get some of us(Mate8 owner) with enough skill to start to work on it.
we need roms like oppo rom
love it
That is the one down side to these phones as they aren't as popular as phones such as the LG G series, Samsung's, HTC's, Nexus series. They are great phones hopefully more developers get on board.
