what is a 1A charger?

Try to put your phone in a plastic bag, and put it in a freezer for a few minutes. Than take it out and try to recharge it.
I know, it's sound weird, but I've read on this very forum about that.
edit: 1A charger is a wall charger with charging current of 1A ot 1000mA.

how do i get a 1A charger?
is an iphone wall charger fine? because that's all i have...
and is it common that it wont charge up?
its so frusturating

I haven't said anything about charger, and I don't think there's problem with a charger. I just explained what a 1A charger means.

Actually there's a similar thread. Check it out. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554976

It'a a common thing on Motorola Moto G.
Seems the wall charger is 0.5Ampere (0.5A) but it doesnt have enough 'power' to start Moto G up after a 0% battery drop. So, what you have to do is look for a charger which has more then 0.5A, like Razr i has 0.85A or like S3 chargers. Then you can charge your phone from 0% to 10% them Switch to its original charger

I mean the wall charger. You have to read on the iPhone charger what is it's output voltage and amps. (most important, volta (v) can't be more than 5.1v)
Probably iPhone has an output of 0.85A.
AFAIK all USB 2.0 ports can only provide 0.5A at maximum, so, it's almost right you cannot charge it on your USB port if battery is 0%. If you can't get a wall charger at home, or at work, try to buy one on a retail store, they have plenty of them. BUT, always check its output voltage. :good:

Charger Output Difference?

Well my charger broke so I went and bought a travel charger. On my stock HTC charger the output was something like 5,0A = 1A and this charger I bought says something like 5,0A = 650mA
Does this just mean it will take longer for my phone to charge?

yes it just means the current running to the phone is less so it will take a lot longer to charge.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, the phone will yell at you every time you plug it and say its not an HTC certified charger you could damage your battery. As far as I know it doesn't actually hurt your battery. It happened on my Incredible; don't know for sure on the TB
What could be worse is if it decides it is USB connected instead of AC, in which case it will draw 500mA or less.
I got this
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Rocketf...rger/1114106.p?id=1218221913668&skuId=1114106
which is a full 2A, microUSB cable and second USB port, shows up as AC and battery monitor shows a net of 600-700mA.

I use a blackberry charger at work and i have not had any issues with it at all. Also at home when im doing something network intensive like uploading a video to facebook i use my samsung galaxy tab charger brick because it provides 2 amps vs 1amp and as a result it will charge and upload where as if i use the stock charger it wont charge

Can you mess up the Droid Charge by leaving it plugged in overnight?

When the droid charge is fully charged it puts an alert on the screen saying so and saying to disconnect it from the charger... obviously when you are sleeping you won't see this message... so is it okay to keep the charger plugged in for like 12 hours? can the phone OVERcharge itself and hurt the battery life?
I have killed the battery and fully charged it and over charged on purposed and haven't seen this message.

No. Samsung Androids will stop charging at 100% (that's when the message pops) and won't start again until the battery has dropped to 95%.
Getting rid of the nag will be one of the first mods to drop.
yup message definately shows... but once the message shows does it automatically STOP accepting the charge or does it OVER charge itself if left plugged in?
Please reread my post.
just saw it now.. sorry..
how are you certain of this?
also, is it okay to use a Blackberry Bold AC charger on the Samsung Droid Charge? the output voltage is the same but the output Amps are slightly different.. the Droid Charger is 1,000 millamps output.. the blackberry charger is 700 miliamps output

You might be ok using the BB charger, but I don't know. It would be safer to use one rated for 1000mA or greater. I haven't looked to see what the charging rate is yet on the Charge, but on the Fascinate it was only 600mA max.

Because every other Samsung phone works like this.
Also, they auto-limit their current intake from charging cables (there was a *lot* of experimenting with these in the Vibrant and Captivate forums last year). So it's safe -- but no faster -- to use a higher-current charger. Lower-current should be fine, too -- they'll just take longer.
The main problem with using BB chargers:
(1) the micro-USB tip might not go in all the way. Other Galaxy S models (dunno about the Charge specifically) have a particularly recessed port that's finicky with many non-Samsung cables/chargers.
(2) the phone might not detect it as a wall charger. I believe Galaxy S phones detect to see if the data lines on USB are shorted together, which some but not all non-Samsung chargers do in the same way. If it doesn't detect as a wall unit, it will charge but the current intake will be much more restricted on the phone end (so it will take longer).
It may not give you the full 1a from the wall, but this cheap charger works great on older Galaxy S models.
thanks for the info.. well I guess I will have to figure out what the Samsung Droid Charge actually PULLS for the charge...
since the BB Charger is putting out 5 volts and 700 miliamps.. if the Samsung needs more than 700 miliamps then it may detect as a USB charger and just charge slower.. which really doesn't matter to me since it will be plugged in for about 8 hours straight while I'm sleeping... I just wanted to make sure I could NOT overcharge it and hurt something inside the phone.
I just found that if you go into the phone status screen under the settings and you plug it in via either USB or AC Charger it will say 'Charging USB' or 'Charging AC' respectively.. just tested that with a Blackberry Bold ac charger it it says 'Charging AC' so I guess the Droid Charge is pulling LESS than 700 milamps because that's what the BB Bold charger is outputting..
The Charge charges at 475mA via wireless charging or USB (computer) connection, and 800mA via wall charger. See here - lines 3125 to 3150.

Most devices work this way. USB power via your computer can't safely sustain the charge rate that a wall outlet can. To avoid issues, they just set it up to charge slower over the USB connection compared to via a wall charger.
Long story short: if the phone manufacturer has any common sense they know to stop the charging at 100%, let it back off to about 90% and trickle it. That's how most new smartphones work.

Nope, the phone stops charging when the battery reaches target voltage and shuts the port off completely if the battery gets over a certain temperature.

Car charger for Samsung Galaxy S4

Has anyone managed to get a car charger for this phone?
I've just tried to charge the phone with my car charger modded to "AC" mode by shorting the middle pins... and the S4 gets nada...
Have they changed the charging mechanics?
Is that what's going on? I was wondering what the heck was wrong with my charger!
Yup, the car charger still charges my old HTC, even with the Samsung cable... so there's definitely something different inside the charger...
I have a 2A usb car charger with generic cable to charge my devices. It's nothing special, but it works with my S4. Hope that helps.

Hmmm will have to look into getting a decent 2A charger then and NOT modifying it...
So I opened up my car charger and un-modded it back to original and it works like a charm now
I've got a 1A Belkin car charger and it seems to overload after a while when charging my gs4.
The green light on it blinks and my phone makes that sound when you plug in the charger.
Takes a while for it to happen but gets more frequent the longer you have it plugged in.
The charger works fine with my gf's nexus 4.

I'm using the Motorola charger (big blue circle). Got it for my Razr Maxx a year or so ago (I've gone through like 4 phones since then) and it works wonderfully. It's the best micro-USB car charger I've ever seen. Coiled cord, huge blue light (but not too bright since it's an ambient-style light), and charges quickly.

Seriously, the best car charger I've ever owned. 950mA is also one of the highest car chargers I've used.
I used to have that same motorola charger but I just switched to this one by SPIGEN: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0069EGLFY/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Different USB cables do pass different current even if using the same charging main. From tests I've done so far, a generic 3 ft USB 2.0 cable I randomly purchased online only allowed around 400 mA. An old Blackberry Torch 9810 cable allowed around 1200 mA. Original cable that came with the S4 allows 1900 mA. These numbers are from using the original wall charger main that came with phone.

Huawei Mate 8 Quick Charge.

Hi.
I have a question about Mate quick charge:
I found that Mate 8 has quick charge future. This future is in the phone or in the charger?
How can I switch between quick charge and normal charge?(there is a label on the charger "Quick charge", So for normal charge I should buy a new charger?)
Will quick charge harm the battery(In long usage and compare to normal charge)?

you can use a certified quick charger or normal charger. Its just the normal charger will take longer..
They have made the quick charge work in a way that it charges fast until it reaches 80%, and then gradually decreases to 'normal' up to 100% full, so in the long run it should have no harm to the battery.

those warnings are for non technical minds.. because they done pay attention to technicalities.
Any charger will work, but you do need to take note of the output Voltage mainly...
Amperage will just mean how fast or slow it will charge..
- If i were to use a 9v 2A charger on a 5v 2A phone, i think it may cause harm.
- a 5v 1A charger on a phone 5V 2A, will just mean it will charge half as fast...
- just like when you plug your phone to computer USB port, it charges at 5V 500mAh (0.5A), hence why it charges slowly
Useful info for everyone.

You should give all the relevant details in your first post.....
I assume second charger is not original.... if voltage output is not stable enough the kernel lower the charging current until it finds a stable voltage......
