When I look at my battery stats at the end of the day, Maps is ALWAYS in 1st place for eating my battery. It shows that it consumes about 30-40% of my battery. Now for the weird part... I haven't run maps during that cycle at all. I have tried cold booting and leaving maps alone. I have tried killing the maps application. It doesn't seem to have an effect.
I am assuming this is an error and that Maps isn't eating my battery. Does anyone have any insight here?
I am rooted, lock bootloader, stock ROM.

I'm pretty sure the stock battery stats aren't very accurate. You could also bloatware freeze maps.
I've noticed lately that I've had to kill GPS a few times.
Don't know if it's Maps, something else Google or Weather Bug.
Check for the GPS icon lower right corner (1st icon) to see if it's attempting to get a fix.

I noticed the same thing and started turning wifi off while not in use. Once it was off, Maps no longer showed up as being the greatest battery hog (usually doesn't even make it onto the list now). Though this is annoying that I have to remember to turn wifi off, it seems to resolve the drain.
The only question is, is this due to Maps pinging the wifi to get the current location (I don't need my location while the device is off, they should offer a setting to turn that off)? OR, is it some issue with the battery stats and Maps is just a false positive?
EDIT: I should note that I do not have latitude turned on (so it would need to be a setting other than that to turn off whatever other wifi processing it is doing).
I see the same thing. At first, I just turned off the wifi, and it didn't show up as using the battery, now I just ignore it. It doesn't actually seem to actually be using that much of the battery.

i am also facing the same problem. am i thinking should i just freeze it and see how it behave ?
Turn off location settings
I had the same problem too, which I resolved by going into Maps->Settings->Location Settings and then un-ticking everything that was ticked. Maps then no longer needs to stay awake and log your location everywhere you go. The app now only shows up on the battery list when I've actually been using it.
Hi
I've got an issue with my stock and rooted Nexus 5 (4.4.2). Based on what Better Battery Stats shows, the device is always Awake (see attached screenshot "Nexus-5-Never-Sleeps_c.jpg"), or, put differently, never in Deep Sleep (→ "Nexus-5-Never-Sleeps_g.jpg"). Additionally, I see that there's a *backup* Partial Wakelock, which is always running (→ "Nexus-5-Never-Sleeps_d.jpg").
While the battery drain isn't that bad (-17% in 7 hours), I still find that pretty strange. The device was "idle" all that time (ie. just lying there, with constant Wi-Fi and screen basically always off, receiving SMS and vibrating at times).
I have switched from 4G to 3G data connection and have disabled Dropbox photo sync. I also turned off Google+ pictures auto backup (and also sync of Google Fotos and Google+ Fotos in the account sync settings).
Hm, ja, well, how to allow the device to go to sleep/how to find out, what's keeping it awake? What's that *backup* wake lock?
Thanks,
Alexander
That is strange. Hopefully someone can chime in on what backup might be doing but if I ever notice something running abnormally long like that a phone reboot usually fixes it right up.
17% in 7 hours is horrible. I lose maybe 3% in the same amount of time. Have you tried disabling your wifi? Or changing the sleep policy to "only when plugged in" or "never"?
Also, do you have your N5 setup to backup to google servers? I'd disable that as well.
What app did you use to edit your pictures?

Yeah, a reboot often fixes it - I think I rebooted already. Will do now and report back tomorrow night. Thx.

Disable wifi? How to get data then? That's no solution, as the N5 is then just a paper weight. Data is too expensive and slow.
I have backup enabled. And, well, for kicks and giggles, I'll disable that as well (after tomorrow, as to not mix up results with having rebooted). Where do I disable backup exactly?

I'm not 100% sure what that *backup* represents but I would guess it's the one you can find in Settings under Personal called Backup & Reset. It could also be related to Auto Sync.

I'm not saying permanently disable wifi, just when you aren't using it. You can set your wifi to sleep when the phone sleeps. When you turn your screen back on, your wifi will turn back on as well. It's in advanced settings.
For backup, there is an option in settings called "backup and reset".
Ok in wifi go into settings and disable wifi analyze, in locations select Battery saver, if you have app Ops then use it to disable location in the Google play services.

Hello, my battery was at 60 percent last night and this morning it is now at 30. I went in and looked at the battery data and Google plus was at the top of the list at 33 percent. Suggestions?
It's not normal, turn off location when you're not using it.
Uninstall it

No need to list all your apps when you know Google+ is the culprit
There is an option within settings to sync photos over Wi-Fi only and while on charge, much more efficient unless you really need to backup all the time
Additionally for general gains, you could use another app to turn off data/Wi-Fi or toggle airplane mode overnight, unless you need it syncing while you sleep

Google+ isn't syncing photos because all of my photos are synced.
It was probably syncing something overnight though right? Worth having charging setting anyway
Ironic that an official Google app will have
e such a high wakelock...
Perhaps try something like greenify?

No because I flashed back to stock a couple days ago to reapply mods and haven't taken any pictures yet.. I have greenify so i'll watch my battery level and then use greenify if I need to. Still weird though. I also totally shut off location now (was on battery saving) so I'll see what happens overnight this time.
install wake lock detector thank me later

usual stuff:
hotword detectionn/off?
wifi scanning even when its offn/off?
rogue app?
higher up you can
install a wakelock detector and check which apps does the "batman"
would have been helpful if you had at least attached the screenshot of the battery stats.
Best hope: Install a wake-lock detector. Check for app.

Google+ will sometimes cause small wakelocks on my phone overnight as well. Although, it doesn't appear as bad as yours. If it doesn't "sync" overnight, I only lose 1-2% that night. If it does sync, it shows that it kept the phone awake for about 10min. But even then, I'll only lose about 5-7% that night (definitely not 33%). I, too, have it back up my pictures over WiFi. This wakelock is random. Sometimes it happens during the day, and sometimes at night. I doesn't really seem to correlate with me taking pictures that day or not.

It's only draining when you're at a home screen so while it's not consistent it will decrease SoT slightly. It only saves you from making 1 screen tap on the mic icon so the trade off is questionable.

Is it set to only sync when plugged in and on Wifi?
This time it went from 89 to 49, probably because in the morning I started getting notifications. Anyways Google plus is no longer on the battery list. Attached are screenshots of anything I think might be useful.

Hi, I'm worried about my bad battery life. Any ideas what it causes or how to improve?
I'm on latest Carbon Rom (Android 4.4.2), Now activated, Hotword detection off.
Logs and Screenshots: see attachment
I don't get it. You have 1 day 9 hour usage and 1 hour 42 screen time. Your screen time is low but your usage is quite a while, better than mine. Could be bad signal, you have 1 bar in all the screenshots posted. Try turning off sync or mobile data when not in use.
It's a combination of poor signal and gps settings.
Switch location mode to Device only and get us an overnight BBS log.
System UI is unusually high. I can only assume this is customized UI elements draining the battery. Google services are 2nd on your list so locations and auto syncs, among other things.
When you're getting normal battery life Screen should be at the top. Anything draining more than Screen you need to look into.

Actually, he charged the phone (look at the first picture above the number 26 ) and as result, it was less than 1 day, 9h.

Hi,
I see systemui is at the top of the list in all your screens. Are you using "pocket mode" or lockscreen notifications? I had the same issue on Mahdi rom and it went away when i disabled "pocket mode"
Are you running a custom kernel?
Some general battery saving tips are :
-Lower your brightness (i have mine set at 20%)
-Download "Wakelock Detector" and "Greenify" from playstore. These 2 apps will solve any wakelock problems.
-Turn Google Location Reporting and Location History off.
Sometimes a simple reboot does wonder for your phone.
Everybody has their own best combo of ROM + kernel so it will be up to you to find what works for you.
I'm currently running Mahdi's ROM + Elementalx and get 4 hours of screen time, 4 hours of music playback (from SD card) and 20+ hours of standby time

Hi, yes I'm using pocket mode. Too bad that it's drains this much battery! I love this feature
to me it looks as you having terrible wifi. and since you left the wifi on, your terrible signal drained the battery.

Try turning off the feature for a day and see if it improves your battery life any.
I'm also a big fan of the pocket mode feature and s2w/dt2w features because i hate reaching for the power button but it killed my battery.
What i can suggest to you is to try an app called Gravity Screen by one of our very own xda developer. Somehow, he managed to get the turn screen on/off via proximity sensor to barely drain any battery. I use this app combined with Dynamic Notifications and every time i take my phone out of my pocket, i get notifications like the Moto X and screen on without power button.
Best of luck!
flash back to stock & change tamper flag, and get an exchange. I found out that the earlier models have some with batt and radio problems

I'm running CM11s 33R with franco kernel r14 and Google Now Launcher. When I manually turn on my screen with the power button or double tap, to check the time for example, the screen will not go back to sleep. However if it turns on automatically because I received a text or snapchat, it will sleep if I leave it alone. Anyone else getting this issue/ have any fixes? I have screen sleep set in display settings to be after 30 seconds of inactivity so i'm wondering what the issue is. Thanks in advance.
Edit: It actually seems like my screen timeout isn't working at all, past the lock-screen, even while i'm in the actual device or an app.
Are you plugged in? In developer options, there's an option for the screen to never sleep while plugged in. If not, the answer to everything: reboot the phone!
Nope not plugged in, and i reboot multiple times on a daily basis and that hasn't fixed it.
For me, when I double tap or press the power button and leave it there, the screen will go back to sleep after 30 seconds. My old phone would turn off the screen after 5 seconds on the lockscreen. There doesn't seem to be a setting for this and it's just automatically set at 30 seconds.

I got this problem also

I am also having this problem.
In my case, the screen will stay on indefinitely. I have timeout set to 30sec.
I have "Llama" app running, and configured to disable my lockscreen based on location. This could be generating some problems... But I don't think so.
Any new thoughts or fixes?
