Hi,
I am looking to backup my internal storage and then wipe it to start fresh. What are the things that I should not worry about backing up? There are a lot of random android folders that I am not sure if I need or not. I know which folders I need to backup for my personal use. Thanks in advance!
You only need to backup your personal stuff like photos, videos, songs etc...All the download apps can be backup using Titanium backup and make sure it use either cloud drive or sdcard.

I'm not looking at wiping my data just yet but I appreciated knowing what i had to back up in case I had to. I wish there was a way to move the stuff from the internal SD to an external one.

You can! Use a file manager: Root Explorer, ES File Explorer, Astro File are a few popular ones. Just copy/paste what you want to extsdcard (aka sdcard1) as if it were a laptop.

Thank you, I'm going to give that a try. Root Explorer should do.

What is the best way for me to do a full backup, given that there is no sd card. Does that data stay after a wipe? this is pre root. Previously I would use astro, but I'm not sure of the no sd issue. Guess I can mount and backup to pc.
Any suggestions?

There is an sd card...just that's its internal. The data stored in the sd card is safe after you flash new rom's after a wipe.

Thanks.

The best way to back up your things are to connect it to your computer and simply move whatever you have in your internal SD to your desktop or wherever you'd like to save it to. That way if anything should go wrong you have it on your computer

You can back it up to the Cloud
if you have Titanium Backup PRO
you have the option to backup to Drop Box
you get a FREE 2GB, when you sign up
which is more than enough, since our internal memory is only 1 GB to backup
He's pre-root, so Tit Pro won't work, as it requires root.
Since he's PRE-ROOT, he will lose everything on the internal sd card if he tries to do the FASTBOOT OEM UNLOCK command to root.
Best thing you can do right now is plug up to USB on the computer, copy all contents to your computer and copy back after rooting/restoring.
The internal sd card is safe from a "factory reset" kind of wipe but NOT SAFE from a bootloader unlock.

yeap, that's the only Drag in the NS rooting method
back in the SGS it was so straight forward, just unroot, and you are done, you don't even need to reboot the phone
much less Format the whole thing, just to get root
Ok, good thing I waited. It's a ***** to export app settings too. Now to pick a good rom.
Thanks for the help.

OK, copying internal SD contents is easy. But how to make a backup of things from internal storage?

You can't. There's no way.
This is why many of us rooted ASAP, to avoid accumulating data (like Angry Birds progess, LOL) that we would lose once we rooted.
There are apps to backup SMS messages, and your contacts, calendars, etc, should backup to the cloud. All you're going to lose is apps data that isn't saved by the app to the sdcard.
Has anyone been able to get Titanium backup to backup to the removable storage? It wont let me navigate to my ext sd and will only backup to the on device storage! Can copy and paste to ext whenever I want to clean install a rom but kind of a pain!

First create a new folder on your sd card then copy all the backups to your new folder on the sd card.
1. Open Tibu, tab on the 3 stacked little boxes(most top right of the screen),
2. Select "preferences" from the drop down, scroll down to "backup folder location", tab to open,
3. Then tab on "detect" button, then tab on "whole device" button and it will find your new folder location,
4. Then hit the back button to bring you back to previous screen, your new path displayed and you tab on "use the current folder". you done.
If you've never made a backup, then you need to do the following:
In TiBu, Settings --> Preferences --> Backup folder location. Use the back key to navigate to /, then go to /Removable/MicroSD and then you can create a folder in there and use it as your backup location.
Took me a bit of a while to find the location.

this solved my Tibu to ext sd card problem .. also off topic appreciate all your work for Bionic.... John Galt.. . rooted ics .232
You're welcome, and thanks in return for the props. I do what I can
Sorry to hijack this thread but I have a weird issue with Titanium Backup - have the paid version...
I want to set my preferred backup location to be on the micro SD but when I navigate to it Titanium backup says it is not writable and that the folder is empty.
I can write files toitin other apps and it is most definitely not empty, I have the install files for the ROM I'm using stored on it.
The ROM is CROMi-Xenogenesis 4.7.0- 10.16.1.14.8/WW DEODEX
Kernel is 3.1.10-hundsbuah-v3.4.5-oc-gaa752e8-dirty
Any ideas?

FAT32.
It's a 64Gig SANDisk but it also happens on a 4gig and a 1 gig card, both of which are made by Kingston. Oddly enough every other app that writes data can write to these cards. It's only Titanium (paid version too) that seems to think the card is not writeable
Just upgraded to Cromi 5.4, still using Hunds F2FS kernel, but the issue still remains - cannot configure Titanium Backup to write to any Micro SD.
Anyone got any ideas?
ES File Explorer, the simple file explorer and other apps can all write to this card but not Titanium

I have exact setup as your and tibu is working fine for me.
I wanted to start this thread because I am having trouble, (and I assume other noobs are as well), understanding what's on my SD Card and how to navigate through it.
I've attached what I see when I open my device and check the internal storage.
My main reasoning for trying to understand all that's on my SD Card is because it's important! And because I'm trying to figure out where all my apps are stored. I recently installed the venom custom ROM, and since then have lost the knowledge of where my .apk files are stored. That's really what I'm after trying to find those files. I've searched every folder but still no dice. I used Titanium Pro to backup all my files but there is nothing located in the Titanium folder.
Can anybody help me identify where my .apk files are located?
I also have a few .apk files I wish to install on my phone. From what I've gathered the way to do this is to add them to where the other .apk files are located and then Fix Permissions. If I cannot locate my .apk files is there another file path I could save it to?
Lastly I have these two files I have not recognized before, BUGSENSE and .profig
What are these files?
So if you're downloading the apks off a website they'll be in the downloads folder if you downloaded then through Google play..they won't be on your sd unless you manually backed up them up through titanium

Right okay, so if I choose to back them up onto the SD card then my .apk file paths should appear? Because as you can see now I have no app folders on my phone (sd card) currently.
I've backed up my phone via titanium still nothing in there is an .apk file.
I'm also interested in keeping my phone clean of useless things (another reason for this thread).
As file explorer. Settings allow up to root allow root. Go up from sd card. System/data folder

If you go to titanium backup location on sd card and open it you will find what you looking for. Its pretty easy to restore backup in titanium app itself.....also a true backup should be done in twrp recovery as it backs up everything (file partitions, kernel, radio, apps) it will save a copy (known as a nandriod backup) on your sd card that you can recover if your rom won't boot or you just need to restore .

Make sure you enable writing to the root folder as well. System apps are in system/app.
I am going to un route my phone and then root it again. My favorite reminder app Astrid is no longer supported and is no longer in the market however I still use it all the time. I don't like the other applications.
I use titanium back up. I am assuming that I can pull the application off of my phone and put it on my desktop and then transfer it back to my phone and install it. Is that correct? What file should I look for? Do I need multiple files? I copy and pasted the Astrid folder from my phone to my desktop so I could transfer it back to my phone and still have all of my information when I restored however I don't think that folder has the actual application in it.

Its as simple as opening titanium backup, going to backup/restore, scrolling to the app you want which in this case is Astrid, tap the app and press backup! You don't need to move the file off the phone as long as you're not wiping the internal SD which 95% of the time isn't necessary. Hope I helped!

Thanks for your response, however I will be wiping the phone completely.

You can set the location of Titanium Backup to an easy to remember folder. After finishing the backup you can transfer the files to your PC, and then to your new phone.
In case you have an external SD card you can set it to backup there. Then you can just insert your SD in the new phone to recover.

Samsung galaxy nexus, so no sd card. Which file am I looking for in titanium? And do I want to restore that file necessarily? I might be putting it on an SG3 and I wouldn't want to include and system info and I'm not sure exactly what that backed up file includes.
Is there an .sdk that I should look for?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
You can use titanium backup or backup system apps using es file explorer backup
Maybe I'm not being clear. What would the filename be called and where would I find it? I installed root browser but there is no search function. I'm assuming it's Astrid.sdk

So I created a TWRP backup of my 2013 Nexus 7 which saved the file locally. The backup folder is around 3.4GB in size. I've take a copy of that folder and stored it on my cloud backup. Question is should I keep the original local copy of the backup folder on the Nexus 7 itself? I could restore it from a mounted usb if I ever needed to restore it right? Although I have around 20GB space left on the device, wondering if keeping unnecessary large files locally can potentially clog up and make the tablet a bit slower? Considering its an old tablet, I want to try and give it max possible chance of not becoming too laggy

I don't suggest storing the backup in your internal storage. Typically, it is best to store the backup externally but the Nexus 7 doesn't have a sdcard slot. This means that you can use a USB flash drive or a sdcard with a USB card reader are your best options.

Thank you. Should I delete it from TWRP or just use a file explorer and delete it from the TWRP folder?

No, you can leave it, if you ever need to use it and can access internal storage via TWRP, you can restore the backup from the device's internal storage without needing the USB. Storing it on USB is just a safeguard in case you end up in a situation where you can access TWRP but can't get TWRP to see your internal storage, in this case, you would use the USB to restore the backup. Sometimes internal storage gets corrupted, ruining any backups that were stored there, that is the purpose behind using a USB or sdcard, to ensure that you have a way to access and restore the backup.
